I am feeling things I have never felt before… https://x.com/dcu_updates/status/1935376699103003089?s=46
David is actually such peak casting, he is LITERALLY what Superman would look like if you took him from the comics into the real world
Will Clara be able to get The Doctor back in time to stop The Boneless?

falling for the mindhunter news yet again 😔
To be free you must cast off the last vestiges of hope
just learned this dude isn't british
Better yet, he’s from Philadelphia
Grew up on 22nd and Pine right in Center City
And went to Shipley School in Bryn Mawr
rewatched the first three jurassic parks
while all of them are obviouslyyyyy superior to the jurassic world movies, god, 2 and 3 don't even touch the first one
lmao
my strongest impressions of jurassic park 3 are ||the moment you hear the phone ring and the dawning horror just before the moment of turning to see the big old spiny dinosaur. the second is seeing the 2 minute trailer for The Others right before this played and having that terrify me more than any dinosaur bit||
I only really remember in 2 when ||the little dinosaurs rip the dude apart. Metal ||
I watched sinners last night
Good film although the ending fight was a bit lacklustre
||the “pick poor Robin clean” song and “we’re gonna start a new Klan. Based on love!” were possibly the funniest scenes ever put to screen||
Sinners ||also “hey baby I got the car warmed up”||
||Oh him? He's just a little hungry is all.||
my maternal grandparents ran a grocery store in the south so I had feelings during Sinners (and also, another very excellent Ludwig Goransson soundtrack)
It is such a good soundtrack.
The documentary maker for this series on Chinese diaspora who did this segment on the MIssissippi Delta Chinese actually got hired by Coogler as a consultant for the film! so the snippets of Chinese heard are Toisanese a similar-but-not dialect of Cantonese that earlier immigrant waves (like my ancestors) spoke. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NMrqGHr5zE
Like, they're side characters in the film overall but such care and attention to detail to what could be background parts in another movie was
There's a rather unknown community of Chinese-Americans who've lived in the Mississippi Delta for more than a hundred years. They played an important role in the segregated South in the middle of the 20th century. Join us as we get a taste of Southern Chinese food and learn about the unique history of the Delta Chinese.
Watch Part 1: How Chop ...
Food channel when
Jetlag this season really making me wanna go back to South Korea
Trains that can get you anywhere in the country and also you can get really good coffee right there in the station? Please take me back
Sinners ||I love how socially awkward all the vampires were lmao||
||mary was literally gonna invite them in and they weirded her out so much 😭||
||sinners is also kinda making me eat my words about hating hiveminds because the use of the hivemind there is so effective||
||remmick is an almost anti Christ figure who offers an utopian escape from the struggles of the real world but while the culture in “i lied to you” is able to grow and progress and evolve, and integrate new influences, all remmick can offer is a replica of a stagnant past||
||I didn't fully understand what sinners was trying to say until the post credit scene where Stack meets back up with Sammie after a few decades.||
||Going into that scene I really thought it was gonna be the standard, "we let you go before, but now we're here to finish the job!" kinda deal you get with a lot of vampire media.||
||But no, we get a beautiful moment of Stack and Mary just listening to Sammie play, enjoying living in a world where someone can make something so beautiful.||
||And that's when it all clicked for me. Remmick may have claimed to be offering a better life, but it was never the case. He saw what Sammie could do and wanted to take it for himself.||
Legit, I felt like that Danny Devito meme
Sinners ||I feel like it showed (albeit in a bittersweet way) Stack and Mary starting to fall into the same trap Remmick did||
||Sammie has clearly lived out a full life and become wiser, but Stack and Mary are dressed and acting in a very juvenile way, while still clearly hung up on the time at which they were alive||
||in a hundred or so years, they’ll probably go down the same road remmick did, always trying to recreate a “community” without any care for the real world||
Sinners discourse, I love to see it
Sinners ||im also trying to figure out the films message on religion which I feel is pretty muddled||
||my only take is that remmick makes more sense as a victim of the cromwellian genocide than as an Irish pagan||
||That's exactly it. Remmick was a victim of colonialism and was continuing a cycle of violence dispite the harm it caused him.||
||yeah, I think in a way he was genuine about wanting “love and fellowship” but it was also clearly a crackbrained idea completely detached from the struggle of people in the real world (ie “we’re gonna make a new Klan with loooove”)||
Just finished season one of Your Friends & Neighbors
|| Omggggg this man! So unhinged. Such bad decisions ||
Gahh I need to watch Sinners again. Saw it opening day so it has been a minute
Sinners || I feel like I definitely remember my girlfriend and I talking about how the vampires in the film paralleled cultural appropriation as well, particularly that moment towards the end where Remmick was like “I want your songs” and all that. Don’t remember the full quote ||
||I think the full quote is “I want your stories and you can have mine”||
sinners ||there is a strong undertone of the hivemind as a criticism of the progressive american melting pot idea||
I didn't even think of that... 🫢
ok so NOW i understand why you like it
tbc i generally like the progressive american melting pot idea
however i think sinners is a very effective criticism of it
sinners ||remmick's ideal of an equal and inclusive community where everyone shares their stories and music is still dominated by white culture even if other cultures and peoples are accepted and welcomed; it is alienating for everyone involved because in seeking to build a new community they are cut off from their old ones; and it is simply implausible because of the inherent resistance from the racist white folks (ie remmick has to literally lobotomize the klan members to get them to join)||
||i think it's framed as an attractive but ultimately shallow utopia||
Every trailer I see for the new Jurassic world makes me want to watch it less
and yet it'll probably push a billion in the box office
people like dinosaurs I guess
I like dinosaurs!
I don’t remember which Jurassic world it was but there was a point where they played the main theme in the movie and it pissed me off so much because it was over like this crappy looking theme park. Anyways they don’t know what made the first movie good
The original is one of the best movies ever made so yes I think you’d like it
I was about to be like wow how did it not get nominated for best picture and then I saw what won and it’s like oh how did Spielberg put out schindlers list and Jurassic park in the same year
hey man, if this movie doesn't do well then it's pretty unlikely that Scarlett Johansson will be able to play Jasnah
put dinosuars on screen for at least 10% of the run and i will go.
At least Mahershala Ali will get to cash that check
Wait they had Omar Sy in the other Jurassic worlds?
I am a believer of the "everyone grew up with a dinosaur movie" theory and mine was The Land. Before Time 🥰
the first jurassic park is good
there's actually interesting things to talk about
vis a vis... capitalism.... character.... themes.....
actually SHOOT sorry i've undersold in my eagerness to talk about it, the first jurassic park is AMAZING
And also it’s just shot and edited so well || you have the scene where they first see the dinosaurs and you get the wonder! You have the sequence with the T. rex and the jeep and the water. You have the velociraptors in the kitchen||
Mine was a hodgepodge of LBT sequels. I remember several, but could not draw any lines between any of them except that in one they helped raise a baby t rex, in one they met another flyer who didn't know he could fly, and in another met like some kind of dolphin or something and did a callback to an earlier movie where they were trying find big water (for some reason I wanna say the first Big Water movie was also the baby t rex one)
I also watched We're Back a lot
I remember We're Back but I only saw it once
I had it on vhs
the first jurassic park was SO committed to the puppets instead of cg... even in JP2 and 3 it was too cgi
jurassic park og general thoughts ||and like, the way i needed to be an adult to really understand how wrong hammond actually was. as a kid, his grandfatherliness felt like correctness, niceness, but then as an adult with new eyes, i remember from the HOP going "hold up, he's... rich, and he's opening the broke-ass scientists' trailer champagne????" and then it just kept going from there||
character writing, man
i was GONNA SAY - the big water one was the one we watched most often. our family watched the first land before time well AFTER the sillier sequels
|| this is why then playing the theme music of the shot of the theme park in world annoyed me. Like that music expresses the wonder of seeing the dinosaurs roam the earth again. And then that wonder was destroyed by the greed of the humans. And in Jurassic world we’re supposed to feel wonder at dinosaur seaworld????|| original and world
||literally no other movie managed to make that track hit ever again||
it's very big, big, big, big waterrrrrr
it's scary and it's strangerous... and things could rerrange-er ussssss... in that big waterrrrrr
I remember watching Jenny Nicholson's LBT ranking video and for like fully half of them, I was like "There's no way I watched this one", then she'd start describing it, and showing clips, and I'd be like "Damn, I guess I was even more obsessed with these movies than i thought"
Because none of them ever understood why it hit and how that scene was built up. It wasn’t just oh wow this is cool! It was what ||they were experiencing at that moment!!||
right like you can't just go ||oh look a wide shot of some dinosaurs, alright, let's go||
it's not GOOD
jurassic park ||and like, alan's thing with kids developing over the course of the movie.... the final shot of the condor (or albatross or other seabird, not sure) as the final shot, the callback to the rightness of modern nature where the dinosaurs HAVE survived, like secret knowledge that was alan's little heart center the whole time, a beautiful little callback||
untouchable
Also the world series seems really keen on making ||dinosaurs the monsters and like… ||
I got my friend to read the book before watching the movies for jurassic park there's so few people who i know whos experienced it that way.
When I read this I went "oh, mine was that animated migration movie! I wonder what it's called in english?"
lo and behold, it's The Land Before Time
WE MIGHT BE BACK https://x.com/cosmic_marvel/status/1935720796061626606?s=46
Jake Schreier will officially direct the ‘X-MEN’ reboot film.
He previously directed ‘Thunderbolts*’
(via https://t.co/Qb5sJOQKpZ)
Time for my mans
That name just throws me off because I think of another series.
My favorite part of the Jurassic Park books is that in the first one ||Ian dies, on screen, in no uncertain terms. Heart stops and all.||
And then in the second one ||he's the main character and someone goes, "wait didn't you die?" and he just scoffs and goes, "obviously not"||
And that's how it's addressed
lmao
Wait is that a thing
no, it's a riff on how she was in the ghost in the shell live action remake
Why does he look like he’s on a zoom call https://x.com/jamesgunn/status/1935359028856549524?s=46
"Ope, how'd I end up in the ocean? Can someone help me turn this off please? It's distracting."
Reminds me of the time when a lawyer used a cat filter on Zoom https://youtu.be/lGOofzZOyl8?si=4WUESrjTpExeBeEz
A lawyer showed up to virtual court in the 394th district of Texas with a kitten filter turned on, the cat moving its lips and eyes, as Rod Ponton said he and his assistant were attempting to remove the filter during the court case.
The judge later posted the snipped and wrote: 'If a child used your computer before you join a virtual hearing, c...
Someone should put a Superman filter on lex's device
If they don’t cast someone hot…
Best I can do is Timothee Chalamet
I will do, quite literally, anything to keep that from being reality
in the forward the author is like yeah i know he died but hes so popular bringing him back is the right call.
Twas the phenomena I was referencing yes
I’ve been seeing Patrick Schwarzenegger being thrown around
I wouldn’t mind that
Tom Holland
I can’t wait for Brand New Day
Hopefully Tom gets to really shine in that movie
Didn't stop RDJ
Don’t remind me
Still one of the worst decisions I’ve seen
And that’s saying something
Honestly, and this is not a meme, the only thing preventing Tom Holland from landing a secondary MCU role is probably his inability to shut the hell up
“MCU box office numbers are at an all time low you say?? Should we just start making good movies again that people will show up for??? NO, let’s just bring RDJ back as Dr. Doom”
And one of my favorite things about him is his inability to shut the hell up
It will probably work
They got him till hes 90 😔
Honestly I’ll go see Doomsday
Getting that contract must have been insanely expensive
But I really hope this is leading towards a soft reboot for the MCU
I wouldn't call Dr Doom a secondary MCU role
I think F4 will be good and I hope Doomsday works but I don’t think RDJ as Doom was the right call
Plus, he shouldn't really take the mask off hardly at all
MCU ||and I think the common speculation is that Doom being played by the same guy as Tony Stark is going to be relevant to the plot (i.e. he's a Stark variant or something equally disappointing)||
Doom just doesn't do that
I mean that's relative here. Everything is secondary to his role as Iron Man in this particular continuity
I want Doomsday (and Doom) to be good and not just “Stark variant”
This is how I feel…if it’s just ignored that he’s RDJ, I’ll be happy
Yeah but because its RDJ and they probably paid a small countrys GDP to get him on they're definitely going to use his face
😔
No
Why not
Maybe we can hold off on multiverse stuff for a while
Because they're terrible at writing multiverse stuff
Idk i enjoy all the multiverse stuff
Nope. Because it’s Doom.
I can count the ones that did it well on one hand
Doom should not be Stark
And regardless doom is an entirely different person
Doom should be the Doom people know and love
Main reason why I’m excited for James Gunn’s DCU is that he’s actually giving each project time to cook in the oven, and a project doesn’t even get greenlit if it doesn’t have a finished script
It’s a really good system
It’s like Chris Evans showing up as Norman Osborne and not focusing on Green Goblin but on the angst of him being a Steve variant
It does seem like Gunn is being careful with managing it
Like ⁉️
Which I approve of
Which is nice
Im sick of being in the trenches with stupid bad DC movies
Ww84 made me give up
On what? You decide 🥰
Honestly they need their animated stuff writers on their LA stuff
The disparity in quality is kind of staggering
DC fans have been in the trenches for years when it comes to live action movies
That's why I ignored them and rewatchef Flashpoint Paradox over and over 🥰
IT WAS ME BARRY
Oh my god I want to send that video so bad but it’s NSFW
the disparity within the animated stuff is also very large
I'm a die hard flash fan
Your time will come 😔✨️
Today I was giggling like an idiot when an infinite mass punch was referenced
Don’t forget Under the Red Hood
@tribal saddle can confirm I was a staunch Flash show defender for a long time
But eventually it got so bad I couldn't defend it anymore
My breaking point was the ||discount lightsaber fight in season 7 I think||
Oh I fell off season 5 or 6
The only Arrowverse show I watched was Arrow
I watched all of them to some degree or another
It felt like they wanted to make a Batman show but didn’t have the rights to Batman
But the flash was my baby
XMen 97 lost it’s head writer lolol
I wanted to give Black Lightning a try (because young justice + I'm black of course I did) but then its cwness was trending and I just couldn't do it man 😭
I thought the first season slapped
But I still think it’ll be good because writing is collaborative for these things
Black lightning was a lot of fun
I'll never quite forgive legends of tomorrow though
There was uhhh drama
Yeah probably
I think S1 was great
I was like 15 I didn't care
LoT s1 ||I'll never forgive them for killing Captain Cold, I LOVED him||
Riverdale would be a fun show if it wasn’t so CW
I actually really liked Legends of Tomorrow
What are you talking about Riverdale is an absolute blast
My favorite CW show was Beauty and The Beast soooooo
(note I have never watched the show, just watched very long videos about the sheer insanity of it)
God that reminds me that we desperately need a Sabrina the Teenage Witch reboot
And make it a sitcom like the first one
So many fond memories of watching that show with my sister
There was this concept trailer for a live action gritty Scooby Doo that seems like it would be a fun show
Salem the talking cat was the best character

Will NEVER forgive Chilling Adventures of Sabrina for not having Salem in it
That diva was the entire reason I watched the original show
Y’all The Bear is back in less than a week!
YAY
This season is gonna be great
Was a bit disappointed with last season tbh, but this one is gonna be better
This is absolutely true
And I still hate that stupid trial storyline. None of it made any sense
I just finished rewatching that
We get a Salem cameo in the last season, at least!
I’m watching Jurassic park now and wow it’s been a while since I watched anything shot on film
I forgot about the opening || where a worker dies because the safety protocols are dumb and then when an inspector comes the site manager is like oh Hammond hates inspectors || jurrasic park
There are so many things in the movie that don't make any sense heh
I could plan a better park in my sleep
The book is better, but also has glaring flaws
The science is very bad too but omg dinosaurs
I feel like there are so many shots in this movie that just don’t exist anymore || like the extended wide helicopter that’s a real helicopter. Then basically the entire jeep sequence at the start. Like that convo Hammond has with the lawyer||
Doctor Who Gatwa 2x02 Lux ||It just occured to me how to describe how the Pantheon episodes feel to me. They're difficult to take seriously, the logic is often questionable and the sequence of events a touch random, and the ending can be a little dubious if you think about it much, but there is a good deal of creative, silly, fun ideas throughout. Basically, it feels like the Doctor is guest starring in Legends of Tomorrow.
That's not 100% what I most want from Doctor Who (despite really liking Legends of Tomorrow), but I am having fun watching it.||
Calling out of work rn
I just watched two movies within the past two days that I really liked
Sister Act
and Mission Impossible; The Final Reckoning
I started it and it’s so stupid (endearingly)
Sister Act was fun. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It was on my Disney+ watchlist for a long time before I finally got around to it.
And that new Mission Impossible movie was AAAAAGH SO EPIC
Sister Act is fun
Now its sequel has taken its place on my watchlist 😉
Since I first saw this was happening I've been curious if they originally pitched this to riot
Because of KDA
I can see the resemblance 😂
I just watched a movie breaking down the new Lilo and Stitch
...Yikes. Way to miss the entire point of the original.
Speaking of yikes, someone i know saw 28 Years Later and had their review effectively summarized as: 28 Years Later Too Facist for Hitler
huh, I've been hearing good things about it
It's definitely been weird seeing some of the other impressions, but i trust this one person's Fascism Radar pretty well
Isn’t it a zombie movie?
yeah
It not being a zombie movie is probably the most frequent criticism ive seen
What's fascist about the movie? In their opinion
I couldnt do their whole detailed breakdown justice, but it some of it is ||how the infected are now treated like just a foreign barbaric society, the mcs steal a baby from one after killing the mother, and there aint a single PoC in sight in the film.
There's also weird, like, the very bad kind of nihilism stuff||
talking to my mum about how she would want a stormlight adaptation done if she could choose. she is insistent on it being dogme 95 lol
||is the treatment of the infected and the baby thing treated as good though? ||
||From what I understand yes. It's a positive thing that they took the baby and the mom mc is happy to take care of it||
Alright guys I want to test something:
If you grew up with Power Rangers which one is your favorite 👀👀👀 i am VERY tempted to sit down and watch every season tbh
And by every season i mean from mighty morphin to samurai (id rather eat a rock than rewatch megaforce)
I was too young to know which power rangers i was watching
I never watched any
Phineas and Ferb s2e37 (some kind of special thing) ||oh my gossssssssssssh they went to Tokyo and it's Carmeldansen (though that's actually Swedish)||
Blue obvi. Do I remember anything about it no. Could I tell you anything about it other than it existing also no
Pretty sure I watched the original and it was the green ranger
Green was pretty awesome back then tbh
Uhhhhhh
Honestly hard to pick. Maybe SPD or Time Force. Lightspeed Rescue, Dino Thunder, and in Space+Lost Galaxy are all really good also
Mighty Morphin of course gets a shout out
What if you grew up just before the Power Ranger craze, started watching it and couldn't get over the extremely goofy plotlines and costumes?
Jeez asking me to dredge up knowledge from 15-20+ years ago? Probably going with Jungle Fury, but I know I watched Ninja Force, Dino Thunder, SPD, the one in the dome city, the one with the treasure hunting theme, and Mystic Force
Gods above and below that makes me feel old, 15-20 years???
I never really watched Power Rangers or ever got into it, but this one clip has already decided the blue one as my favorite:
Go go Scottish Ranger bagpipes intensifies

New teaser for James Gunn’s ‘SUPERMAN’
︀︀
︀︀“They’ve always been wrong about me. I love, I get scared, but that is being human. And that’s my greatest strength”
James Gunn understands Superman
Me thinks that we’re in for a generational movie
Too much colour. Looks like a comic book
He’s not aura farming while a whole room of people burns to death in front of him #notmySuperman
It genuinely just FEELS and looks like it’s a comic book, vibes that we really haven’t gotten since Raimi’s Spider-Man
I was watching a bit of the old Fleicher cartoons and man am I sucker for 40’s style narration.
||found it interesting that it says that Superman was raised in an orphanage. I thought that the story was always that the Kent’s found him and raised him.||
I feel like you must have posted the whole movie in clips by now Ryan
40’s Superman ||Newspaper boss: You and Clark go investigate this supervillain who threatening to destroy the city tonight. Louis: Nah I am just going to fly my plane over and investigate it myself. Newspaper Boss: Ok that’s fine with me.||
Don’t blame me, they keep posting clips
||His golden age origin was that he was raised in an orphanage but they changed it to being raised by the Kents in Silver Age I think||
I would also note that the Fleicher shorts are based on the radio show, not the comics
Although apparently ||In the radio show he comes to Earth as an adult, so I think in this case they did get the origin story from the comics||
Ah like Batman’s no guns rule or Cap getting frozen in ice.
the corollary is that you don't need to pay to see the movie anymore
Honestly they’ve revealed very little about the plot
Murderbot S1E8 + books ||I forget, did the books ever establish the backstory of Gurathin being a corporate spy? Or is that new?||
new
does anyone know a fun, knowledgeable and non-right wing history podcast?
Mike Duncan
well okay to be fair "knowledgeable" and "non-right wing" are kinda synonymous so
I got this one recced to me
He hates Trotsky but he’s pretty left wing overall
but some people are good at faking being knowledgeable so 😅
which one is that one?
Revolutions by Mike Duncan
also I'd prefer like, a multiple people podcast and something more focused on entertainment (though I'm fine with history lessons podcasts too!) but also not in the style of uh the UFC stand up comedian guy
the format that is the most common now unfortunately
joe rogan that's his name
o I really should listen to that one eventually
o this looks pretty pog 👀
Tbh Trotsky has thicker skin than me because if I unilaterally declared peace and disbanded the army, and then my country got invaded I’d ice-pick myself
ooo DSH has an episode on blavatsky 👀
Dan Carlin, Hardcore History. He doesn’t really talk about politics, and I never listened to Common Sense, which was the politics show from long before it got so polarized.
One person, but great storytelling. Also British, but The Rest is History
I've started listening to Supernova in the East
need to continue
Supernova is my favorite series of HH
oh he's the history of rome podcast guy no?
I also listened to a bunch of the history of rome, it's also pretty good
but the 'problem' with Supernova in the East and History of Rome is that they are very dense podcasts, which for background audio that I'm half paying attention to is not great
if I'm playing something like battlefield where I don't really need to think about what's going on in the game and can just autopilot I can still listen to it though I still go back on episodes a lot to catch something I missed or forgot the context for because I was distracted
but for something like PoE or pokerogue I'd prefer something lighter because I still gotta think a bit about decisions and moves in these games
Yeah you can’t do that. But The Rest is History would be a better fit for that.
I listen to and enjoy this podcast occasionally but if you want to avoid right wing people, I definitely do not like what bits of their politics I've seen outside of the podcast
Or Dominics anyway
oh wait Jonathan Bailey is in this new Jurassic world.... ughhhh I might have to watch it
There’s history teatime with Lindsay holiday
It’s on YouTube but I think it also works as a podcast
She mostly talks about the British monarchy though so there is a vaguely royalist bent to her
Although I haven’t really listened to enough to say for sure
Sinners is coming to HBO Max on July 4th!!!
There's a reddit post that will come up that goes into more detail about his politics, obviously can't go into more detail here myself but yeah, one to avoid if you really want to totally avoid that kind of person
No excuse for me not to watch it then
Behold Chat!
The real Krypto we should have gotten!
Why didn’t we get this Krypto smh
Behold!
Dog
TMA all: ||Relistening to the series because why not and I'm on Boatswain's Call (s1e33). It just hit me that Peter Lucas is the captain of The Tundra, a very lonely place. This is why you revisit media, to catch all the foreshadowing||
TMA all ||s1 has a lot of future stuff dropped throughout||
||I was relistening to episode 4 yesterday abd they mention gertrude having bought a lietner, but obviously a first time listener doesn't know it was gertrude, for example||
TMA all: ||And some stuff that got dropped. The Hive becoming The Corruption, whatever the thing was in the priest, curses like Angela's thing...||
I miss Christopher Reeve
TMA all: ||Don't forget the weirdness with Hilltop Road. That was less of foreshadowing though and more retcon||
He was an amazing human being
TMA all ||Jane/The Hive just was of the Corruption, not a separate entity, and I think Angela was just able to do that as part of being an avatar, that doesn't feel too different from what we see some other avatars do to me, it's all nightmare logic. for sure there were some weirdnesses before they settled what all the entities were though, like with the priest, and the early garbage collector episode||
HTTYD Live action was excellent
One of the best animation to live action adaptations I’ve seen tbh
its the same movie
Yeah its good cause its the same
Tell that to Disney, the people who keep making crappy live action adaptations
Also helps that they have the same people making it too ig
If it’s the same, why make it?
This just helps push the idea that live action is better than animation 😤
Live action just tends to get more box office numbers then animation
It’s just the sad reality
Which is why live action remakes are trash
Because it reinforces that trend
Cinderella is like the one case I except because that movie is unique and fresh in a good way
Because they dont make it the same movie
Murderbot e7 ||please no more of the polycule 💀||
||i physically cannot handle it anymore. It’s killing me||
TMA all: ||I more meant that the original idea was to go with Hive and later got changed to Corruption with Hive either a) being another name for Corruption or b) a part of Corruption. Another example is Burned getting changed to Desolation||
||I always thought Angela was some early weirdness rather than an avatar because the curse seemed to jump to the statement giver after he interrupted the curse's work||
TMA ||Angela was the lady that did the jigsaw flesh curse right?||
||Yeah i'm unsure if she was an avatar or if the curse itself was an entity she could direct||
TMA all: ||What entity do you think was responsible for s2e15 Binary? My vote is a very early version of the Extinction due to the central nature of technology||
||My impression was Spiral, cause of the mind being trapped and maze imagery.
Which a quick search has show me was the intention.||
TMA all: ||I was never super satisfied with the Spiral, but I'll update once I get back to the episode||
Taskmaster: WAIT YALL CALL BOWLING PINS SKITTLES
TMA all ||my guess would be a combo of spiral, extinction, end, and maybe flesh||
Apparently 28 Years Later has been a very divisive movie
Zack Snyder Fans Worried New Superman Movie Will Show Him Rescuing Someone https://t.co/2PIC7vOp0o
Zack Snyder fans when they see the littlest amount of bright colors
It’s just… so strange to me that he’s garnered a cultish fanbase
But the internet is strange in general
Snyder himself is actually a great guy, I just don’t really like his movies that much
He’s the opposite of “separate the art from the artist”
Snyder I think suffers from "just not getting it"
Which is much better than the typical "doesn't care about it"
Yeah, at least he puts effort and he obviously cares about filmmaking
Which is… more than I can say for a lot of modern comic book films
Snyder I think exemplifies the issue Brandon has talked about a lot with prior adaptations of his works.
He has a vision for something he wants to tell and molds the vehicle he is given to tell that story. Sometimes this works but other times it's jarring to the broader audience. He also is(or was) at the blank check stage of his career so there wasn't much pushback to him doing that. He was a safe bet so they let him do his thing. When studios started stepping in folks came out do the woodwork to cry foul but I don't think getting a clearer picture of his original vision for things actually improved them.
ah, gotcha, I'd forgotten them mentioning that
Yeah, I think Snyder’s style just really works with only a niche group of people but not with general audiences, and before he even did the DCEU stuff he was never really THAT huge with general audiences
I think it's also something that worked for a while when it was new/different but it becomes less interesting when applied to every project.
And then they REALLY over corrected and gave us the Joss Whedon Justice League, which was… awful
he makes blockbusters though...
inception was not a cult movie lmao
hell neither was 300
Snyder is kinda like Michael Bay but people kept telling him he was a cult director and he started believing it
Inception was Christopher Nolan
HTTYD- on one hand, I'm glad they didn't butcher the story in LA
On the other hand, it's the same movie, so what's the point
All it does is make me want to rewatch the trilogy
I feel like this is a big inherent problem of LA remakes - if they're accurate, they're pointless, and if they're different, they're likely worse
Eh. It's just a way to get people who think they are too "good" for animation to enjoy a good story that we have already consumed from the animation
I feel like, as an EPIC: The musical fan, I've been slowly watching a fandom decay over a year or so into something so frustrating
Welcome to fandoms full of over eager teenagers
Still on my soapbox saying the httyd la should've done a closer adaptation of the books (with some necessary changes ofc)
I've been becoming less engaged with the fandom recently but whenever I've dipped back into it it seems so... frustrating
They all turn out like this
Character discourse is all "x is the worst person ever and has no good traits" or "x is perfect how could you hate them", people just share the wildest misinformation about the myths/EPIC, apparently some fans were attacking animatic artists online
Not to play the stereotypical grumpy old person but I swear the fandom wasn't like this back when I first got into the musical
Also I've seen a lot of really weird parasocial stuff
It's also just really strange that EPIC ||telemachus/antinous|| is such a hated ship by a lot of the fandom because that seems like it'd be more popular
Httyd first book specifics, series general ||I think the biggest change that you'd need to do is fix the gender imbalance in the first book lol. Probably by making the Hairy Hooligan "boys" a coed group, and bringing in the Bog Burglers as the other tribe at Thor's Day Thursday so we get Camikaze early? Though I haven't thought through all the implications for later books||
It just adds to the fandom feeling really unwelcoming to more varied/different opinions and takes
How different are the books to the movies?
I remember reading the first one ages ago and feeling like it was quite different
Some names are the same
A dragon is trained
Well that's... a start?
Yeah they are WILDLY different stories
If I remember right the books are set at an established Viking dragon training school
Books ||Not really? I don't remember an established school until the swordfighting one later. Iirc dragon training was passed down in the village like any other skill? But it's been a while so I may be wrong||
Been too long since I last read it tbf
I'm just like... why do we hate nuance here?
Ugh rant over ig
But yes, dragon training is an established viking system in the books. Where the civilised people ride horses and hunk with hawks, vikings ride and hunt with dragons
genuinely, because internet
the mass broadcast of opinions to huge numbers leads to polarization, as the other person you're talking to stops being a person and becomes a representation
Don’t forget the hell hole that is children’s cartoons that got popular with adults
I only had two heads to attach text to
Fair enough
Discussions of adaptations are also a toxicity magnet. 😔
though TBF, I couldn't think of any 100% example except Homestuck
so that would have been a good one
Idk if it's the kinda people who latch on to fandom style engagement or just human beings in general (I lean towards the latter) but yeah my interactions in those kinda spaces have lead me to a) not want to be a part of them and b) conclude that a lot more people need therapy than are getting it
probably a bit of both
The 2016 Voltron cartoon had a fan base so toxic, “antis” (as a fandom purity concept) originated there
no way is antis that recent
In the modern sense it is, see “parafandom use since 2016”
Hmm looks like they didn’t originate in Voltron, it merely got big/escaped containment there
Some day we will get a book adaptation, I believe 🥲
ig I'm in a mood for potentially hot takes right now
TMA all ||started thinking about the potential of oliver banks/jon sims ship and I kinda think I prefer it to jon/martin||
I don’t think that’s strange whatsoever. I’m not one to really think about ships at all granted, but that sounds to me like something that wouldn’t be popular whatsoever. But I also immediately hate the concept myself
Not part of the fandom myself though. I think that all sounds awful and people need to chill out and let people have their own opinions
It feels like something that would be popular in fandom, to me at least
It feels like it hits a lot of the beats people like to take for enemies-to-lovers sorts of fanfic ships
I would think given how recent Epic is, the fandom surrounding it may lean younger and thus there may be a generational thing there with a ship like that? Possibly?
Just spitballing there
Though its definitely not my main issue with the fandom, just felt like it could be related to how it feels like the fandom really doesnt like complicated takes
Fair I suppose. Perhaps it’s just how incredibly toxic || Antinuous || seems to be to me. He feels pretty irredeemable. Not to mention the || open desire to rape Penelope ||
||he's defnitely toxic, and i assume most of the shippers somehow remove the penelope aspect||
||it just feels like the sort of dynamic fandom shippers would love, to me||
I’ll have to take your word for it. You likely know far more about all that than me
This one is very much me guessing based on vibes tbf
I could be totally off
Just was something where I saw the discussion around it online and went "huh, not the way i expected that to go"
Especially given [epic] ||ive seen a lot of ody/poseidon and ody/zeus stuff||
Just off vibes I think I’d say those feel different in my head upon hearing them? Can’t explain it but there’s a particularly strong “do not like” reaction to the || Telemachus/Antinuous || idea for me at least that isn’t there with the others. Couldn’t say why, it just feels different?
I think ||tele/anti feels a lot more personally toxic||
||which, i thought would be the sort of thing people would enjoy. But maybe I have a skewed view of fandom||
Yeah. || Was starting to say it felt more personal. Like the gods feel like it’s just the gods doing what they do. It’s not as personal really with Ody it seems. Whereas Antinuous actively wants to murder Telemachus and rape his mother. Antinuous also to me feels like he’s Ody’s age, so shipping him with Telemachus just feels pedophilic to me too. That’s probably the biggest thing, now that I’m actively thinking about why my brain just actively strongly rejected the concept. Yeah Telemachus may technically be an adult, but also he’s kind of still a kid. He doesn’t feel like an adult ||
||epic definitely makes anti/tele feel much further apart in age than the odyssey, imo||
|| Fair, I haven’t read it admittedly. Or if I ever did it has been such a long time ago I don’t really recall it at all ||
||I read it a year or so ago, don't remember it perfectly but they definitely felt more equal than in EPIC||
||EPIC feels like it does a lot to make tele feel young/inexperienced, with things like "that's so sick!" and "l-l-l-egendary"||
||while anti is out here calling him "boy"||
|| Yeah, Antinuous feels like a grown man and Telemachus feels like a sheltered bright eyed kid who just hit young adulthood but still mentally is like a kid. So that ship just seems super predatory to me. Just in the same way I think a sheltered woman who just hit 18 being with a man twice her age feels super predatory(though I’ll admit any case of a big age gap like that feels predatory to me, sheltered or not). Same vibe.
But even if that all wasn’t the case, I personally have really strong opinions about rapists, so Antinuous really couldn’t ever be redeemed in any way as my brain could never separate that from him ||
||As someone who has not seen any actual antinous/telemachus fics/art/etc., i assume they probably just remove the rapist thing?||
||if not, definitely agree. Even if they do, its still tough||
|| For me, mentally, that can’t be done. I can’t separate the two.
Besides, if you’re changing parts of a character, what’s the point? That’s a different character then, no? Or am I way off base? ||
|| I also have strong opinions about age gaps generally though. Sure, consenting adults and all. But as a 29 year old man, I cannot fathom why any other 29 year old man would want to date a 21 year old for example. I think even 25 feels like it’s starting to push it a bit.
For me that is. Not going to judge anyone. My parents have a 9 year age gap. Just couldn’t ever be me. ||
||I think to some extent you can change parts without changing the character, but given antinous's like... 1 character trait is aggressively wanting the throne/penelope, I think its tough here||
This is the best way to put it, yeah
||like i can imagine an AU where... idk, maybe Odysseus starts ruthless, but you maintain the rest of his character because he's pretty fleshed out. But with anti you're kinda just making him into a deep-voice intimdating oc/archetype if you remove his actions/intentions. So it'd be a tough line, imo||
Yeah, not my wheelhouse haha
I am very much one who takes media at face value myself
Like I think the only ship I’ve ever heard people discuss where I’m like “yeah I can get that” is ATLA || Katara/Zuko ||
It’s just something I’ve never actively thought about myself
When codenames first suggested children's cartoons up here, my first instinct was to pretend to be a ||Zutara|| shipper
Jonas: if we make the Stargate public knowledge on Kelowan, everyone might work together towards peace
Kelownan PM: If that were true, then the Stargate would be public knowledge on Earth too. Right, Colonel O’Neill?
Jack:…………. yeah
I'm sooooooo glad I never saw any of that when I watched that show
Teal'c believe that the Canucks of Vancouver is a good team of hockey !
Apparently the team played this clip pretty often during that years playoffs. They also filmed in Vancouver
It’s because (ATLA) ||Kataang|| is lame
Atla || I never really understood Zutara shippers, seeing as Zuko is very clearly extremely tied up in a very deep relationship ||
Atla ||I never understood zutara shippers because they weren't endgame 💀||
||also, and ive said this before, I probably would have been if zuko didnt... go on a redemption arc 😭 lil cosmic liked em toxic and terrible 😌||
Azula was a formative crush for me that exact reason
AtLA ||how dare||
Would any of you ATLA nerds be interested in the magic the gathering avatar set that comes out this year. Like would it be something that drives you to play
Probably but I dont play MtG
Also I'm watching that Kpop demon hunter movie and this is hilarious
I'm sad nobody took my bait 🥹
Nah man I agree with you
You agree Atla || Zuko is tied up in a very deep, unbreakable relationship already? ||
||not quite unbreakable but already in a relationship yeah||
-# I feel like I'm trying too hard now t_t
There are things I can rage about but this isn't one of them
Atla || the punchline was going to be if someone contested his relationship with Mai was not that deep I was gonna reply "not Mai, his Honor" T_T ||
I'm hilarious, I know
Okay that's good
pitch it to me? I'll ship a lot 👀
children's cartoons that got popular with adults were a mistake
we tried it, saw what horrors it unleashed, we do not need to return
animation should exclusively be for children, actually
spongebob is the upper limit
But but but what if I never grew up and expanded my tastes and interests from childhood
voltron and steven universe fandoms were terribleeeee
Yes yes they were
I'm really glad that I barely used the internet when Voltron Legendary Defender aired because dang have I heard stories
what happens when a certain volume of young people don't want to grow their tastes is that they are bringing their current level of depth and understanding and new developing value systems to whatever media they're watching, and the children's media just wasn't made to bear the weight of that kind of analysis
so you got some teenagers talking themselves into the position that Steven Universe is pro-fascist
woa
i would never have thought that someone could talk themselves into SU is pro-facist
wtf
and it's just... I'd actually make the point that young people don't actually "watch children's media like adults", because the adult position is recognizing what the limits of the children's programs are, and recognizing what the story is for. they aren't actually ready to accept it on the show's own terms. so they watch it like immature teenagers
rigid over-application of a black and white moral system of the type that teenagers pass through as a typically normal and healthy part of their journey to being a self-actualized adult - but then getting stuck there because now on the Internet they get caught up with a bunch of other young people also rigidly applying said moral black-and-white to them too
sigh. Internet.
i feel like there was an evolution from "kid's shows can be just as serious as adult shows" to "kid's shows should be held to the same narrative standards as adult shows"
felt like I saw that happen in real time
i think it happened exactly when the diamonds were introduced in SU
for SU in specific, yuuup
it is also part of the adolescent crunch happening across mainstream media: children's programming getting pulled up and adult programming getting dragged down
it used to be there was a clear progression in media taste: you went from looney tunes, to teen dramas, to crime shows. now everything is muddled up. some of my favorite things come from that muddling, but i do think atla should remain the exception, not the rule
I do think it's very rough that there isn't really good stuff aimed at teens
Young adult fiction is now read by mostly people in their 20s and 30s who are upset if things aren't max spicy
the concept of spice really broke containment
Remember when people thought Hunger Games was popular because romance and made a whole subgenre derivative of it
Watching Cartoon Network step away from this in real time will be the reason for my villian arc 🥰
Media literacy being low is crazy
shudders in Divergent
idk if its media literacy being low, or self awareness being low
i agree with everything you're saying but i also feel like so many people say "X fandom was terrible" and really mean "X was popular among teenagers who acted like teenagers"
like the way people talk about "bad fandoms" comes off almost like shaming a lot of the time, and it's like, who cares, teenagers will be teenagers
"X thing is great, but the fandom ruined it" "X thing is great, but don't interact with the fandom" i already don't interact with 15 year olds online anymore
if part of your motivation for getting into something was that you need to talk to 15 year olds about it and for them to be chill, that's a you problem
i think with SU in particular it gets weird bc it feels like the fandom was part of the experience
same with Homestuck
and then there's MLP:FIM where the fandom is definitively the problem
MLP is its own thing
Idk I think it's natural for someone to enjoy something and then think "ah I'd like to talk with other people who also enjoyed this thing and have interesting discussions about it" and you can't just assume that toxic elements of a fandom are just "teenagers being teenagers" (paraphrase)
I think the difference here is that it is (to my understanding) specifically teen-oriented media
The issue is that talking about things you like with people is cool but the internet has mashed all age groups together
also just mashing disparate groups together
if you are 25 and rage posting about a CN show that is on you
I think I'm leaning into the whole tribal theory, "we're only meant to know ~50 people" thing (or w/e that number was)
(and I'm not sure how valid that theory actually is?)
but yeah, teens being teens in the local village/neighbourhood is fine and good
teens being teens across an entire country/the world is maybe a problem
I'm happy to communicate one aspect of what I think the problems were without needing to communicate ALL of what I think
Also sadly there are many people who, to go back to what Grey wrote earlier, never get out of that "teen" black and white thinking so I don't think it's exclusively about teens ruining things for adults
More immature people ruining discussions for people who want a little more nuance than a playground shouting match
I think the environment stokes and keeps people in this longer than they normally would have
I was a teen who went through my own rigid over-application of moral standards, but the social environment of the Internet fandoms I was on back then, that existed back then, allowed it to truly be just the usual temporary step along the way
I cannot imagine being a teenager in fandom these days
I wasn't terribly active on the internet as a teenager and I can only imagine what its like
seems like a pressure cooker of the new moral purity.... very scary to think about how this is going to develop
stares at the gaping maw of Youtube
okay but what's worse rage posting about CN show or rage posting about someone rage posting about CN show
It's all rage posting, all the way down
People still being mad about TTG existing is just so funny to me honeslty
Most of my anger at TTG is contextual to when it came out
The show itself I have no concern or care about. It's CN's whole business strategy that was the issue, and at the time TTG was a bold symptom
agreed!! DX
yes
I mean I just think it’s 🫏
I have never watched more than 5 second clips but I think its funny that people beef with it
why is there salt around TTG
like ive never really engaged with it or heard about salt around that show
I think because it replaced the old teen titans show?
Which I also have no seen but I do beef with that show because it meant the show I did watch (The Batman) didnt have Robin for the first several seasons because there was (and I think still is?) a rule in DC shows that you couldn't have the same character appear in multiple shows at once
The exception being in the Justice Leage animated shows which had Batman and very occasionally someone like the joker while he had his own animated series
Many feel it’s irreverent towards the property, low brow humor, offensively low attention span, its bright colors loud noises for babies and it became like 80% of their programming.
It is impossible to be irreverent towards superhero comics as a property
There were some early comments that did feel a bit mean spirited they got better as they went on though by the time they hit the movie the jokes actually landed but some of the early jokes were more “wow you guys actually like the original” than anything else
Like don’t get me wrong you can’t be irreverent towards any comic book character but if your targeting a specific run you kinda can
It definitely didn't replace the OG TT show (assuming I'm remembering the timelines correctly, it ended at least like half a decade before TTG). However, as long as it exists (and is popular), there's no real chance of an OG TT reboot or restart, they're too fundamentally different as shows.
OG TT was over for a while before TTG came to the scene i believe
But yeah, I agree that it became way funnier when it moved away from the mean spiritedness toward the original fans
At the minimum it’s a focal point towards an imagined superior past. Remember when shows had good stories verses brainrot. Which ignores a bunch of other old brain rot. But it’s an easy and obvious comparison when they take a show and turn it into the other
It doesn't help OG TT ended on a cliffhanger for another season we never got
At least we got the TTG movie which featured the TT cast turning up and finding out wtf has happened to their show
I actually saw that movie in the cinema and very much enjoyed it
BTW this isn't just a one off joke in the movie, it's the premise of the whole movie
Huh turns out there 2 teen titans go movies and I've mixed the two plots up into one movie
Oooooo
There’s a whole generation that never grew past last airbender
I am really hoping that this means that we are getting a street-level Spidey story
The recentish video games are simply better at doing that than Marvel has ever been or apparently really wants to be
Basically:
TMA all ||I think Oliver would be able to support Jon in a way Martin kind of struggled with in s5, and that no one else was really able to. Because Oliver is an Avatar, and he seems fairly relaxed about that, and also still fairly normal? Just looking at his statement episode. He's not crazy and sadistic like some, but he also seems to have accepted his Avatarhood. And hes the one to push Jon to wake up from the coma. I feel like he'd probably be able to... sort of reassure Jon and support him in doing what he has to to survive, while also not pushing him to go overboard. And I feel like Oliver seems to understand Jon's situation pretty well, at least based on 121.||
||I'm maybe failing to explain this properly but I really like rhe possible dynamic of jon, who's struggling with being "the antichrist"/an Avatar, and his partner being Oliver, someone who made his choice and seems to have accepted it, and can lay out the options for jon and help him make a choice||
||yeah no I think you explained it fine, makes sense||
||I've seen one or two fics shipping them but not anything super serious and it is a good concept||
||idk it just ended up on my mind and I quite like it||
aughts and 10s internet would've been all over it
nowadays it's too problematic 😔
I think crossovers are classified differently
that's kind of the point lmao people ain't shipping with Epic all ||Antinous|| because he's redeemable
My girlfriend is an enormous Star Trek fan so today she showed me Star Trek The Motion Picture for the first time
It honestly wasn't that bad
Unfortunately, it wasn't that good either
The special effects were actually pretty good for the 70s, which is good since there are lots of scenes of panning around the fancy environments while no one says anything. That's clearly where all the budget went because the costumes look like this
Everything looks so washed out. The original series had better costumes than this
gonna have to wait for the gritty live action remakes sorry 😔
Also instead of his normal hamminess, William Shatner sounds really stilted and now I understand this Animaniacs skit
The Willie Slackmer skit from Animaniacs. (Please note: this was taken with subtitles on, I am sorry.)
someone needs to give another super hero to CW for them to make a show about 😌
whenever I think about media literacy being low I think about the ogre baalbuddy comic lmao
Baalbuddy has hit the sweet spot of fantasy gooner humor where it’s unabashedly gooner but also still funny
this is part of why I like staying with my old games
you ain't gonna find many teenagers talking about Koudelka that's for sure 🙏
They manage to satirize the stereotypes by cracking it all up to 11 and treating it 100% seriously
that's an orc though
baal usually draws orcs with darker skin
Jagged teeth are not tusks

The what now?
magic the gatering avatar the last air bender set which comes out this year
after the spider man set
these are the sets that come out this year
Of all properties that could get me to play a little magic again, that one may do it. Maybe just some pre-releases and drafts. Idk. Maybe not
I already have Flesh and Blood
But I do love me some ATLA
But also probably a discussion for the tabletop channel
The one preview card is really interesting but also doesn't answer the giant question of the set design
Clearly there's a bending mechanic for the 4 elements
And that raises the giant question of what black is doing in the set lmao
Jurassic park || lol the shot where the kid goes flying off the electric fence|| makes me crack up every time
|| bad raptor stop trying to kill Laura Dern||
i like mike duncan but IMO at times hes too left leaning
but hes one of the best hsitory bpdocasters
but the rset of history is a really really bad podcast
It varies series to series tbh
I haven’t finished his Russian Revolution podcast but the parts I’ve listened to so far hit a good balance
For Haiti he was obviously very pro revolution
Also for the Mexican Revolution he was pretty obviously stanning Zapata
His French Revolution one was very moderate/ a bit right leaning
Also off topic but I watched ballerina
Knew it wasn’t gonna be a character heavy film but I did think there would be more character than it had lol
REAL, unfortunately
I take it purely as entertainment, theres no real analysis or much historical work going on by two guys who appear to me to have the majority of their worldview informed by great man theory
Jack: This changes things.
Jack: …..
Jack: Carter, how does this change things?
Sam: I don’t know, sir.
None

The Fox and the Hound book was better imo
The Fox and the Hound book ||The hound, Copper, chases the fox, Tod, to exhaustion, and Tod ultimately dies. The master, facing eviction from his land due to factory development, takes Copper and a shotgun, implying he intends to euthanize the dog at a nursing home where dogs are not allowed. ||
I do too! It just sounds... oof because Tod and Copper are my babies
jurassic world is on tv ||and the scene where it just LINGERS on this woman's life makes me so furious, the misogyny of the director. i want him dead.||
||The pterodactyl one? || Jurassic world
yeah
||I’m not sure it’s sexist but probably unnecessary. I just think they wanted to have an excuse to have the mosasaur eat someone || jurrasic world
||nah it's overtly misogynist. that crem was typical punishment. ||
I’m still thinking about Ballerina
Seeing it right after Sinners was insane
It had actually less character and plot than a marvel movie
I didn’t expect it to have much but it had so little it distracted me from the action lmao
TMA all: ||Relistening to Grifter's Bone made me realize Tchaikovsky was somewhat aligned with the Slaughter. Or at the very least, The 1812 Overture had a connection with the Slaughter ||
Yah I remember the director I think talking about how ||she was the first named female character killed and how he wanted to make it “memorable”.|| Which is weird to say the least.

I bet that twice song is so freaking good
Anything with my queen Jihyo in it is peak though so I expect nothing less 😌
I do think the animators commitment to doing really big, exaggerated facial expressions even in 3D animation is such a credit to the style
It's something they did really well in Spiderverse and I feel like they had some fun opportunities to push it further in this one too
3D animation incorporating techniques from 2D animation is so
I have no idea
You got the spelling right the first time
This is the kind of news that is best not to share, as now my only hope for the future of cinema has been extinguished. Would that I could live in a world of blissful ignorance, forever hoping that one day I could get to see Transformers One II; that hope would keep my light going indefinitely. For now, I live in darkness
They do that a lot
I know, I was really hopeful for a Transformers Two. 😭 Like, we finally got a genuinely good Transformers movie, and that's it? No more? It's not like there's no demand for it.
I know it's due to a bunch of studio stuff and Hasbro stuff, but it's too bad anyway.
yesssssss it's so good
really loved how, like spiderverse, they incorporated stylistic exaggeration from the 2D counterpart mediums
the facial expressions! the really great soundtrack!
these derps
There's something so great about how you can tell the story is written by fans of kpop, but is also poking fun at kpop fandoms and idol culture too

Well I downloaded an episode to watch today during lunch today
So... Yeh
This tiger was so cute
KDH || “I made the hat for the tiger but the bird keeps stealing it”||
KDH ||I think that implies he made all the hats for the final Saja Boys performance hahaha||
||we see them at the beginning too ||
||when he says he has the idea to form the boy band ||
My takeaway from KDH was I need more 😭
I need to know what happens next
It also implies (KDH) ||he made a hat for the tiger but not the bird. Like the bird specifically is his least favorite pet.
||
Coming to the conclusion I may need to watch The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, considering I have an actuual (if vague) interest in it, unlike Cats, which was the big thing that connected to the second season (I am only now realizing how little sense this makes when you don't know its about Bigtop Burger, or if you don't know what happens in Bigtop Burger)
You want a warning about the biggest cliffhanger of the season?
Probably not?
I can watch all three the whole way through so if there's a horrible cliffhanger I can just watch the next one
Ok valid.
But you'll understand why I say it was torture to wait for the next seasons.
(and no, the one I'm referring to is not the last episode)
It bothered me so much I just watched in Swedish with subtitles
Young Royals 1.2 ||OH THEY ARE SO DOWN BAD FOR EACH OTHER
I mean they kissed so that seems somewhat obvious but STILLLLLLL
Wilhem is so utterly unsure of himself and it's amazing||
Yepp
THE BEAR COMES BACK THIS WEEK CHEFS
THIS WEEK ???
WEDNESDAY
WEDNESDAY IS A GOOD DAY FOR ME SINCE I WILL BE "WORKING" from home
which streaming service is it released on again
i forget
Hulu
Yeah, it should be on Disney+ too
sweet
Disney has all the Hulu shows I think
In the US this is true
and i am currently inside the usa
fun fact disney+ only has the most recent 2 seasons of doctor who
Given it's known as "Disney Who" yeah I'm not surprised
Started rewatch of Arcane s2 (finished S1 rewatch a while ago)
Arcane s2e1 ||man I don't think I paid enough attention when this funeral scene played. This is so good||
okay so i just started rewatching Kpop DH, shut up, and also ||i just realized the Saja Boy named "Abby" is... the one who's all about his abs
||
Arcane S2 ALL ||ah frick you Maddie||
Inject this into my veins please, spoiler marking it since it’s kinda spoilers for Superman but not really??? Very minor
my brother wanted to watch murderbot so i ended up rewatching the first four episodes with him
honestly, i liked it even better on a rewatch
the group dynamics just hit so well in a way they don't in the books
murderbot and gurathin are both really interesting characters who are good foils for each other and this comes off really well in the show
I’ve been meaning to watch Murderbot
It’s been a while since I read the books
I think it'll be even better watching back-to-back when it's all out, b/c the episodes are soooo short watching week to week
okay this is the funniest post so far in the kpop demon hunters tag:
lmaooo
~~it was better the second time 😭 ~~
so watch it again
It would be funny if you saw it like 5 times before I saw it once 😂
its one of those things that like. the music is so plot important that there's all this extra stuff when you know the songs really well while you're watching
(feather you watched it for the first time last night, how can you know the songs "really well")
well you see, i listened to the soundtrack at work all day 😅
My sister in the Almighty it is a 37 minute soundtrack
and its full of bangers
i do think it's best listening to them in the movie first, b/c you get them in situ
but then you listen to them a bunch and you watch them again and then you hear all the little motifs they wove in there
What’s your fav song Feather
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm genuinely so hard to pick
Mine was ||Your Idol because
||
Valid
I get goosebumps from a lot of them tho, which is like, ok that's how i know a song is good
the vocal performances are really excellent
Yeah
You fr need to watch it. You’ll be obsessed.
It's hard to beat this moment tho, ngl ||https://64.media.tumblr.com/a5f7a6fff798f7c3a39a84e9fe74c873/64ac5b923affc642-4b/s540x810/0f5178c24e6d064aaafe9853a394ea9f97241c46.gif ||
KDH gang look at this fanart: https://www.ddinstagram.com/p/DLPo5mnT_m1/
Can't decide if i think Tech weapons are worth dealing with the charge up
Oh lmao
they tend to have less attachment slots which is sad to me
Oh heck yeah
(it's the highest combined critic and audience score out of all the Netflix films)
Soooooonnnn
Wow, Huntr/x's new member looks great in the lineup, but I don't know how I feel about the full face mask...
making Miles shorter than Rumi and Mira was such a choice tho
short king energy
Tickets secured for avatar the last airbender in concert for this year! So excited to see it again!
The Mahershela Ali Blade project appears to be fully dead in the water
Ali saying "someone please tell Marvel I want to make a Blade movie" levels of dead
He apparently has no idea what's going on with the project anymore
GUYS
KPOP DEMON HUNTERS?? PEAK.
Give it the Oscar now
KDH ||That last Saja Boys song was absolutely incredible my goodness, im surprised an actual kpop group hasn't done a demon theme, they absolutely need to||
||also jinu's voice???? PLEASE im in the wedding dress already||
the juxtaposition is very funny to me
@full wolf shes watched it
I DID AND IT CHANGED MY LIFE
KDH ||a friend told me my favorite group had a song in it and I didnt believe him so when it showed up I had a physical reaction||
||also I have 2 hands, one is for Abby and the other is for jinu 🥰 also his name being Abby is so funny||
A geeft for u ||https://www.tumblr.com/moonlessoul/787178788555538432/ill-be-your-sanctuaryyyyyu?source=share ||
Im gonna be giggling like an idiot all day huh 😭
Yeah someone pointed out that (KDH) ||they probably would have just won if they'd debuted as a demon kpop boy band trying to devour their fans' souls, because that would have been way more effective
||
THATS WHAT IM SAYING 😭🤣
||see they would have taken my soul so fast 😔||
also KDH ||The girls' fits were absolutely STUNNING like red velvet and twice need to take notes because omg....||
Also also KDH ||Rumi and Jinu's duet was so cool, why did they kill my mans off??? 😭 surely there will be a sequel so they can surely fall in love... THEY DUDNT EVEN KISS DX||
KDH
Mr fr honestly 😌✨️
This movie healed me
Also (KDH) ||After the credits, seeing twice recording Takedown?? Ohhh my sweet girls 🥺🥺💕💖💕💕||
Also also ||Jinu. Hehehehehehehhehehehehe||
||it was so hard to focus on him talking because I was just sitting there like "good lord your voice is transcendent"||
KDH ||Like first they made him that hot on his own, but then they turned up even further by making his chemistry with Rumi just insane. The fakeout asshole meetcute?? The blade to the throat introduction, immediately into the armband tie in the middle of the fight??? Like they started at a thousand miles an hour and then just kept speeding up 😭 ||
||RIGHT!! I was 🫣💕💕💕🫢 the entire time those two were on screen!! Anytime he got those freaky yellow eyes i was tempted to climb through the screen and take him myself 🥰||
||especially toward the climax and he yelled about how bad of a person he was... I would have fixed him just saying 😔||
Honeslty this made me realize that kpop is fun again!! Like yeah, of course I love it but since my favorite group has been in the military trenches since... 2019?? Ive been so mmm about it but this and Turning Red did wonders to my soul
Tldr I miss EXO
Anyway this movie is peak and deserves 50 trillion Oscar's and everyone should watch it right now
Yep, just one movie!!
Not even a super long movie. 88 minutes of beautiful brilliance
Yeah honeslty it was nicely paced!!
I will say, for people looking up the trailer, I do think the trailer picks the goofiest clips to try to sell it. The movie is more serious than the trailer would imply, even though it does have some goofy moments in it.
Hmmm yeah 🤔 I didnt expect it to go the way it did honeslty
KDH ||Literally everything about Jinu was a surprise, which i think was a excellent choice||
i remember the trailer from ages ago, i thought it was cute
-# also I changed my tag, felt the kpop one was fitting hehe
i'll probably watch tonight after raid
do you want company for that
Yeah, based on trailer vibes alone, I thought it was going to be wacky goofy the whole time, but its got quite a bit of emotional depth that's really well done
I got tears a couple times for sure
Yeahh 🥺 I didnt tear up but I did gasp
Both from the emotional bits and from Jinu... breathing 😅
But @full wolf and @molten jetty what were your favorite songs 👀👀 mine is probably gonna change but ||Your Idol has me in a god damn vice grip rn 🫣💕💖💕||
That’s my favorite too LMAO
🤣
KDH ||they did not have to make him so hot because????||
GIRL I understand it now 😭
I feel like that song being someone’s favorite says a lot about what they enjoyed in the movie hahahaha
🫣💖
FRFR
Like not a single song misses either it is insane
I told MG different songs yesterday but I think as of today it's ||This is What It Sounds Like||
literally tho it does change by the day/hour which one's my fave
It is solidly a no-skips kind of album for me, except it's a musical soundtrack 😅
Exactly!! And that one's such a good one too 😭
ok i just got out of therapy and my therapist said i should watch kpop demon hunters more
now i have no choice
actually i have things to do and i gotta raid in two hours so. lame.

okay maybe it was something more about not being embarrassed or downplaying the importance of having a fun, good experience that brought joy in a really difficult week and that if i want to do the thing, i should just do the thing and enjoy it
yess!! Do what makes you happy XD especially when it involves hot kpop boys 🥰
That sounds mostly like therapy speak for watch kpop demon hunters again tho
Yes, im- oh HI POOKIE 🤭💖💕💖😔
Is this a movie someone who knows barely anything about kpop can enjoy?
Yes, definitely! I've been really enjoying reviews from people with no exposure to kpop before this realizing how fun kpop fandoms can be
It's very approachable to outsiders
Yeah like kpop isnt all terribly Fandoms and saesangs, its about enjoying incredible performances and the people behind them (it helps that they are always gorgeous) 🥰
There's definitely some deeper touch points for people who do know a lot about kpop/kdrama culture, but that knowledge is not required to enjoy it
There's a lot of the deep kpop fandom references that are there to lovingly poke fun at the whole subculture
But the broader story is just a fun musical about pop groups fighting demons and singing catchy songs
(also the critic and audience reviews are all consistently extremely high, and you know all those critics aren't kpop stans)
As a non-K-pop stan who dabbles in other pieces of Korean culture, I found it very good
I do have some passing knowledge of that culture, but very extremely shallow
I know it exists, at least. Same can't be said for many people xd
The only piece of Korean culture I dabble in is StarCraft xd
Yeah it's not a "you need to know the lore of these 42763 groups' concepts to get it" kinda movie
-# yes each one has their own lore 😂
I will look into watching it. Which of the 100 streaming services is this on?
Netflix!!
Yes
OH WAIT that means my pookie Hector will be in it 🤩
Poggers
He’s been seeming hyped for it
The question is: will Jorge still voice Odysseus?
guys help me im watching the minecraft movie agian
The Minecraft Movie, or A Minecraft Movie?
A Minecraft Movie (Block Party Edition)
yhey look its dantdm
hey look its mumbo jumbo
I'd assume so; I'm also assuming most of the gods will stay the same too
This whole movie lives rent free in my head
Guys idk if I'm gonna regret asking. What is Epic The Musical
I understand it is not a musical in the traditional sense, but like how does one consume it
It's either the Iliad or the Odyssey I believe?
Musical adaptation/retelling (more the latter) of the Odyssey inspired by anime/video games
Wikipedia says it's a series of albums, so do I just listen to it on Spotify?
Released in "saga" albums over the last few years
Yup, there's an official playlist compiling them iirc
Places them in order
Danke
There’s also the creator’s livestream from when the last saga was released that might make it easier to understand exactly what’s going on thanks to the animatics/on-screen text https://youtu.be/hjotpDjR5YM

Final Fantastic Four trailer!!
Sonic 1 movie ||damn peach you live like this?||
Same tags ||my girl is in the trenches 😔||
this slaps
Same ||I think we only got one use of Mr Fantastic's powers in this trailer? Damn they must be worried about the CGI coming across wonky||
or probably finally learning that Trailer shoudln't show too much
Like thank god || we didn't see galactus here || f4 new
||and only his shadow ||
|| or legs ||
28 Years Later seems to be VERY divisive
I’m seeing some reviews saying this is the worst movie ever and some saying that it’s a masterpiece
Alright, my kpop demon hunters thought of the day, from watching it again last night ||I know "Your Idol" is great for those sinister steal your soul vibes, but honestly I do have a lot of fondness for the "saccharine sinister" vibes of "Soda Pop." Like the lyrics are so clever because it just sounds cutesy and flirty, but it's also all about wanting to devour the fans souls, too.||
