#Minimizing input lag

Hi! I've been setting up a system for the purposes of getting it as perfect as possible for older fighting games. The hardware is about as good as I can get it, so my only concern now is software. Currently the desktop is using windows 11, but I'm interested in dual booting it with a linux operating system if that means input lag and response times can go as low as possible. Is that something that linux can do better than Windows 10 or 11? And if it can, how might I do that?

Thank you so much!

Dualbooting into linux is actually a lot easier to manage than you think. But it also depends on the Linux kernel you want to use:

  • Ubuntu and Debian are simplest to install as it has an installer close to Windows-style "click yes until it installs"
  • Arch is kinda harder since it requires a little bit of practice with the terminal (and not the cmd.exe)

Also, a quick notice:

If you install Linux, alongside Windows, your boot manager will be replaced with GRUB.

This is mandatory since getting Linux to be visible in Windows Boot Manager is nearly impossible. Hence the grub installation.

Alright! I'll get that installing then 🫡

I don't mind GRUB personally

speaking of optimizing latency you can look into if any of the zen kernel / liquorix would be beneficial to install

Something you dont absolutely need by any means but i would see if it helps any.

#

it has QOL patches and supposedly less latency. but those same patches could also hurt your performance. so check out all ur options

#

realistically if you are playing fighting games online your response time between all your hardware and the kernel will be bottlenecked by network any your brainlag between then too so i think you may be overthinking it in that regard

I'll have to give these a try though! Thanks!
