#How to Enable Wake on WLAN?

I recently updated my PC with a WiFi card since that works better for my setup. However I have not been able to make Wake on Wireless LAN work. I had it working through Ethernet using my Poweline adapter. Can you guys please help me with what I am missing, if it's even possible. I'd like to be able to power on my PC through my WiFi card.

I have set the following through nmcli

802-11-wireless.wake-on-wlan: 0x8 (magic)```

Arch (Linux Zen 6.6.7 kernel)
MSI B550-A Pro
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
TP Link Archer TXE72E

Netgear Nighthawk X6 R8000

Aló. I think that has to be done on EFI. If you can't find an option on your EFI menu, I doubt you will be able to do so.

#

As the WNIC is an non-integrated card, I don't think it will work. AFAIK, EFI usually (and even hopefully!) provides support for the integrated components, only.

#

Maybe modern motherboards developed a more integrated support for peripherals?

I have the settings enabled in UEFI/BIOS, but it doesn't seem to be working. It's receiving the magic packet when powered on, but I'm not sure if there's some kind of setting to keep it on my WiFi when the computer is "Off" (S5)

So, in your EFI menu you can turn on WOL for the WiFi card, specifically?

Limitations

  • Integrated Adapters Required - The wireless adapter is required to be integrated onto the motherboard in order to control the power state of the workstation (this category also includes mini-PCI and mini-PCIe adapters). Newer motherboards and plug-in wireless adapters do not have the required power connector and cable as some older systems provided. Therefore, external adapters that are not integrated into the motherboard will not be able to control the power circuity and thus cannot support WoWLAN.

I think that about closes this up. Thank you for this info.

In fact, I don't think it actually closes your question, for that post it's about 10 years old

I don't think we should be surprised though

Will this work, then?

#

sudo iw phy0 wowlan enable magic-packet

#

And re-check with sudo iw phy0 wowlan show

I think I did have that enabled on my Arch.

#

I will try it again when I am home

Still no Wake on LAN

It says it's enabled, so are you able to wake it up at all or is it just the wake on lan that's not working.

I doubt it, but do you have, by any chance, an EFI option to keep the power on the PCI WiFi card when the computer is powered off?
