Alternative OS I have this old computer that my relatives bought me for studying during the pandemic. It recently started acting strange when I changed the cpu causing it to malfunction to the point it can only boot the repair screen. I heard the benefits of Linux on old computers so why not try it out! I want a way to install Ubuntu from the windows repair screen, preferably from a USB flash Drive. Any help is appreciated.

the windows repair screen isn't relevant here. all you need to do is press del, f12, depending on the mobo manufacturer to access the bios and from there you can boot from USB and install linux

when you start your computer, you should see a splash screen maybe similar to something like this, just depends on the brand of motherboard that you have. yes it is correct that you need to insert the usb and restart the computer, but your bios has a boot order. right now it is trying to boot into your windows drive, and you need to change the priority of the boot order to boot from your usb drive first in order to install whatever linux distro you choose. this is why you need to look at this screen and press whatever key it tells you, in my case for my motherboard its DEL, this image i got from google also says DEL so it seems that it may be common. basically just try restarting you computer, press DEL so you can access the bios settings, and change the boot order to boot from USB so you can install your linux distro
