Bone shield being nerfed is a whole other ballence change

dusk lake
#

Fair. I guess if your critique is they're designing too much around main-scape, that's fair; but I don't see Jagex really changing that any time soon. :/

dusk lake
# burnt minnow Bone shield being nerfed is a whole other ballence change

The issue is; shields have to somehow be made fun to use/switch into.

I'm sure more than half the reason BS was added was to "reduce switch scape" .

Idk how many players would cheer for "Yay, I get to go -1 inv and +2/3 clicks to fire off a Res so that I can feel obligated to feel the joy of shields again."

Its a loose loose atm .. if you spent loyalty points on bonds or Auras your going to feel hard done by no mater what. To be honest, I don't care about the buffs that much and I'm sure with as much feedback as there has been you will find a solution. Redistribute the buffs in someway and compensate us for removing something from the game we paid for. I like the idea of giving us a token for the new Marketplace for each Aura or Item you remove. Works as a refund for Loyalty points, Auras, any other item. Put effort into the new Marketplace simplifying the number of contact points and outside and inside game currency's. Remove the Loyalty store, and make runecoins and reward tokens the only currency. Give reward tokens as compensation, add them to all membership packages, drop a few in-game. Continue free offerings also for all on a monthly basis. Make it a rewarding process by offering outfits in piece form "chest, legs, boots, gloves, hat, cape," so it takes a little time to collect a whole outfit. I truly believe the changes will improve the game, and I think the above approach will sooth discontent and foster community spirit.
Happy Scaping

"Their acquisition is time-gated, requiring lots of real-life time to obtain. You can't speed this up in any way."

  • Make it faster to acquire them? And their are ways in-game to get basically the same effect.. Supreme Wisdom= Magic Incense Sticks ..etc [talk about micromanaging making sure to keep in inv and an eye on the timer so you do not loose the overload buff]

"This can leave you in a spot where you feel under-powered compared to other players until you're able to acquire them."

  • I have never EVER once thought this while playing the game. And, again, their' are similar effects you can use in game if one feeles so 'under powered'.

" Their timed nature and cooldowns place time-locks and time pressures on you and your gameplay."

-They are 'buffs' to game play. It is expected that they are not going to last forever. Again, I have never felt 'pressure or time locked' when playing with Auras on. If you are playing the game based strictly around the cool down on Auroras...um.. well..their is no wrong way to play the game I suppose.

" They aren't "earned" through gameplay. They're direct buffs that don't need you to do anything in-game to earn them.

-Seemes like Wars Retreat has this covered. Is the only way to get the Auras in his shop is through gameplay.

"Most Auras are 'miscellaneous' buffs that don't actually add any real depth to your gameplay.
They add an extra system to micromanage on top of everything else you already have to."

  • Again I have never felt like this is a hindering, slowing down or stalling my game play. I know they are buffs that will not last all day that were earned through being a 'loyal member' for 5 years.

Just a question. Was a survey sent out about how the community feels about Auras? If not why not send one out?

-WhangBang

true jasper
#

@potent arch thank you very much for this input im the same feel aswell the boss fights last an hour anyway so whats the point of even messing with them
They've never felt time gated aswell

#

@potent arch I just tried temple of aminishi with all my best stuff and the guardian still rocked me tried twice with auras on and I simply dont see where in the flying fuck any nerfs are needed infact they need to be buffed if anything there is no possible way new players would think there op at all even mentioning this is clear stupidity

hard pasture
quiet zenith
#

There were surveys with questions about auras over the last year yes

leaden socket
#

people acting like auras are getting hate out of nowhere is wild

quiet zenith
#

Aura hate was a bit lessened by wars retreat. Before that auras was one of the most widely hated systems in the game.

After that it was just kinda hated, but then croesus came out and hate blossomed up again since more use for skilling auras, then fell a bit again as people moved on to other content.

burnt minnow
# potent arch "Their acquisition is time-gated, requiring lots of real-life time to obtain. Yo...

Unfortunately, alot of this is subjective.
Many players, such as myself. Fully agree with all these decisions.
Years of hate for the aura system and what it was born from have tainted peoples perceptions of it. Especially those players that where around long before they where added.

I think what they're trying to do is upset the fewest number of people possible.
And that means removing auras and making them not needed via buffing skills/combat/ect so that they feel better.
Weather through leveling benefits, buffing the baseline skill, or adding functions through other means.

In the end, no matter the change. There will be people that are unhappy with it
Some people wont get what they want and thats that. They cant please everybody.

#

Even if changing how auras are obtained and work to make them no longer horrid would "fix" things. It wouldent take away the distain that a large portion of the player base has for them.

lime axle
#

Letting people buy tradable versions from war’s retreat with uncapped marks of war/hour would upset far fewer people. It would take nothing away from people that they have. Deleting them with or without refund is far more abrasive than that, and it looks like it will be no refund.

burnt minnow
#

At this point auras just need to go entirely.

exotic pond
#

Idk, i feel like people dont really want easyscape, as much as some would like to think. Effectively permanent easy to obtain auras is even more terrible than the current system.

#

Imagine some of the strongest upgrades you can get just being handed to you.

burnt minnow
#

Idealy the auras would be removed and problem areas fixed so that things arent horrible feeling. But also arent op.

fast elbow
#

I don't know what the plan for the Aura spot is but it would be nice to Not have to remove urns that are stored in The BoTG to use them along with a scrimshaw in order to have it activated. I this case I have Divination Urns in the Brooch of the gods and the Superior energy-gathering scrimshaw but in order to use the urns along with the scrimshaw I have to remove the urns from the brooch so I can equip and activate the scrimshaw. If the scrimshaw could take the aura spot then they can both be used without removing the urns and putting them back again to save bank space if they are not all used up.

flint olive
urban tide
#

So if core issues with auras is timer
then remove the timing portion of them and leave it as is.
let players start stop at will.

Aquiring them through similar gameplay to currently Mahjarrat, Desert Pantheon, and Dwarven Instinct, Vampyrism, Dark magic, Berserker, Reckless Manical are offered.

knotty nest
#

Icthlarin and Amascut should have their set of boon offers for combat after auras are removed. It doesn't make sense they are the the only 2 from the desert pantheon to offer nothing.

true jasper
#

@quiet zenith I've never once heard anyone say anything negative about auras

#

Also if jagex is listening why not just give ports dungeoneering reaper points for loyalty points i mean that would make some sense

urban tide
# burnt minnow Unfortunately, alot of this is subjective. Many players, such as myself. Fully ...

so simply re attributing them instead of complete removal would be worse then throwing them into content that is require bigger overhauls like summ or a pocket slot that you apparently only able to have "one" of? let alone a relic system that they dont wanna poke around in?

the aura slot itself is no issue and thats clear as day but if you wanna argue people gotta get affected by it negatively your missing the point of what i wrote.

true jasper
#

I like why the aura slot is
Go to inventory choose one activate it do what you want with it

urban tide
burnt minnow
true jasper
#

@urban tide removing the timer would fix the whole problem

#

@burnt minnow have you even done late game bossing?

burnt minnow
#

Yea. I have. What does that have to do with fixing non combat skills?

true jasper
#

@burnt minnow wait so you've been talking about skilling auras this hole time then

burnt minnow
#

Yea. Combat auras are already slated to be removed and replaced with 120s. And penace/vamp are being discussed.

true jasper
#

@burnt minnow see if read your comments of removal of all auras witch i couldn't see how anyone would want that

fleet vapor
#

I want all auras removed, not given alternatives, while fixing the core gameplay issues that make it so players feel the need to use auras

true jasper
#

I do not want to see auras removed at all

quiet zenith
burnt minnow
#

So youd rather we leave core gameplay loops unfixed and just bandaged with auras?

fleet vapor
#

But it does seem like there are quite a bit of people who want to bandaid fix the bandaid fix auras give by keeping them in game, but with a changed timer, which misses the point enitrely why auras are bad

quiet zenith
#

We shouldn't have reaper points product crash in value by some passive currency for existing, or bypass dungeoneering or so on.

true jasper
#

@quiet zenith I dont see why we shouldn't its something already bought and paid for just like being a member and a non member

true jasper
#

@quiet zenith personally I wouldn't be taking the reaper points id be wanting pearls

fleet vapor
#

So do you think, since they are removing aurs, and as of right now not looking to refund some of them, that players should be able to decide how they get refunded from in game items?

true jasper
#

Loss of player morale for these things is also bad for the game
Not giving something for loyalty points completely fn ruins trust from the players to jagex team!! You take loyalty points away with no compensation
None of these players will ever trust them again
Morale means alot in a game in life in a workplace remember that

#

@fleet vapor I do think this entirely i dont think someone with 4 mil loyalty points should get 4 mil reaper points
Make it like a conversion

fleet vapor
#

I dont think someone with 4 million loyalty points should get any reaper points

burnt minnow
#

No conversion needed. They where given for free. They dont need to be reimbursed for something free.

true jasper
#

@burnt minnow they were given to spend as currency nice try

fleet vapor
#

Also player morale will increase overall when the game continues to get into a better healthy state, which includes removing auras

burnt minnow
true jasper
#

@burnt minnow no they were NOT for free it was pay a little extra to start earning these

burnt minnow
#

The point of membership is to play the game. Not get loyaltoy points.

true jasper
#

Then adress the situation where free to play doesnt have acess to anything members

#

It's the same concept

fleet vapor
#

Buying access to play more of the game is not the same as buying access to p2w auras

jovial shale
#

Just had an idea for equilibrium aura replacement, since 90% of eq usage is with necro, why not add a 5th conjure - undead barbarian or something, still only allow a maximum of 4 up at once so you have to choose between phantom guardian/zombie and this. give it a passive that prevents critting but empowers all dmg, basically copy paste it from equilibrium. You could even give it a command ability that further empowers damage for your next ability by like an additional 3% since necro isn’t getting any dmg boost from 120 lvl benefits like the other styles, this could be something to ease the blow.

true jasper
#

@fleet vapor define pay to win? In runescape because of alot of content is locked behind quest

burnt minnow
fleet vapor
#

Also fire conjure idea - I dig it Zelaro

true jasper
#

@burnt minnow maintaining membership was another key to the door aswell

burnt minnow
quiet zenith
#

loyalty points was not accompanied with any price change to membership when it was added. It was just added on top of the existing normal membership. Nobody paid any extra for it becoming a thing.

Sure you got loyalty points to spend as a currency, but nothing says what you could spend it on had to be anything with gameplay effects.

distant zodiac
#

are we really doing another day of "hurdur I paid for LP" when that is not the reason you pay for a membership subscription

true jasper
#

@burnt minnow your not seeing the picture here also @fleet vapor you could buy bonds on ge to get auras as well so nice try

quiet zenith
burnt minnow
quiet zenith

Biting is +crit chance. Equilbrium is +damage no crit chance. One disables the other.

jovial shale

fleet vapor
quiet zenith
distant zodiac
#

It's a circular argument just like the other day, the game comes with trade-offs as I said. Auras are entirely inorganic and not obtainable through simply playing the game considering as even kobra has said several times over, you can just be subscribed and never log into rs3 specifically to still accumulate LP

true jasper
#

@burnt minnow free to play members dont have acess to anything near what members have nor bosses or quest or auras its all members content

fleet vapor
#

Obviously you buy membership and get more quests - this obviously means p2w

distant zodiac
#

They're being intentionally obtuse and using a circular argument just like yesterday and they are clearly not understanding what pay to win actually means

burnt minnow
#

Im just guna block em and move on.

distant zodiac
#

Reminder that the game is pay to play and subscribing does not give you the ability to auto-complete a quest etc

true jasper
#

@quiet zenith you can only acess these quest through members and gain the benefits from completing them p2w @fleet vapor your not making very good points of interest back so it would seem im correct Next

distant zodiac
#

Again, that isn't what pay to win means. Get an actual argument or as we were told yesterday by saint, move on

quiet zenith
#

I feel this argument is not only circular, but can't even get the agreement that there was an issue with auras or that people have historically had issues with auras (I don't believe people who played before Wars Retreat would never have heard complaints about auras, berserker auras situation was very unpopular)

Having a core, plain membership as the primary means to funding is fine. Unlike MTX, everyone shares the same tier, you can't repeat buy to get an increasing advantage and so on. It grants access to a big portion of the game but functionally its an access ticket and doesn't do anything other than let you in the gate.

This is radically distinct from being given currency that straight up progress you in the game.

fleet vapor
true jasper
#

@distant zodiac here Ile drop straight facts: Pay-to-win (P2W) refers to games allowing players to gain significant competitive advantages—such as powerful gear, exclusive abilities, or resource boosts—by spending real money, often making it difficult for non-paying players to compete.

distant zodiac
#

Considering it's been the same circular nonsense for 3 days, if not more... it's obviously disingenuous and I'm half tempted to just ping the mods to quash this again

fleet vapor
#

Mods just say stop, then we go back at it in a few hours tbf, its a cycle

distant zodiac

Clearly still doesn't understand what pay to win means, but keep trying buddy.

burnt minnow

true jasper

@fleet vapor okay agreed

quiet zenith
#

Yeah I'm dropping out. If we consider any payment at all to be p2w, then games with a pricetags are p2w.

fleet vapor
#

I knew we could get through to Drinkbeer

true jasper
#

@distant zodiac @burnt minnow
Again heres the definition!
Do free to play members have acess to members stuff ? No they dont Pay-to-win (P2W) refers to games allowing players to gain significant competitive advantages—such as powerful gear, exclusive abilities, or resource boosts—by spending real money, often making it difficult for non-paying players to compete.

distant zodiac

#

Considering that isn't the definition, yes actually

scarlet ferry
#

I don’t know if this has already been seen or suggested at some point, but as an option for changing the vampirism aura, instead of putting it on a summoning familiar, why not allocate the healing effect into magic and ranged DoT abilities, similar to what we have in melee today? Necromancy already has healing through the ghost, but you could always add a smaller healing percentage to the Bloat ability in case it gets worse than the other styles.

# burnt minnow *The skills themselves need to be fixed not bandaged*

well you see the problem your stating is a one fit all model we cant solve every combat instance making all auras active at the same time no? then whats the band aid?, its different forms of buffs used at varying spots for the players to figure out... even if were in a point where wiki and end-game players show us whats optimal or "recommended" usage its up to the player to figure out

ornate mural
#

People had the option to buy them via bonds as well. Not lp only. As well as we have the option to buy membership.

#

High lvl bossing, then buy bonds, then acquire auras. Its like 1.2b for bonds for anual membership. Whatsup with all those hours i had to invest doing pvm. To purchase the bonds to then unlock the auras. Thrown away like my time its nothing? That aint good. Instead of making them more available

#

I acquired my auras thru hard work. Sweating for hours grinding so i could afford the bonds to acquire my auras. Thats why i feel i earned them. Some of you dont want them? Thats not my problem but many of us earned them this method. And i dont want my time and hard work be taken with the excuse “you get lp passively”

burnt minnow

ornate mural

burnt minnow

But without membership. The lps are useless. you cant get them without membership. Or even use them

ornate mural

Sure i could wait for the lps to accumulate. But im not a lazy player, i worked hours and hours to unlock them quicker via bonds that i paid with gp

ornate mural
quiet zenith
#

Doesn't that kinda prove his point that membership is the foundational part?

burnt minnow
#

Yeah. Thats the point of membership. To play more of the game.

ornate mural
#

And thats what i did?

quiet zenith
#

So you would not bother using bonds for membership without loyalty points existing?

ornate mural

Nope, just pay for membership. Which is more pay to win than working and buying bonds with your hard earned gp

alright - hear me out. i'm gonna use "Legendary Call of the Sea" as my example, it's basically going to be entirely fishing based.

so we've got 99/120 levels for rewards and content. Clearly, adding a 15% increase at all times is not ideal for power-creep and game balance, at least as far as the devs have been concerned so far. So we treat it like some kind of grind combined with unlock, maybe matching the xp bonus on the elite outfit.

so tier 1 is 1%, etc, to tier 5 which goes up to 6%.

mechanics - RNG while you're fishing within tiers for pieces of items to drop. when you gather all of them (let's say there's 4) you can either use some kind of crafting level, take it to an NPC, or have putting it together be attached to a specific fishing level. let's say tier 1 is for fishing anything levels 1-20. tier 2 would be 21-40. tier 3 would be 41-60. tier 4 would be 61-80. tier 5 would be 81-99/100. (you would need to create each tier in order to unlock it ofc, so tier 1 unlock is required to craft/consume tier 2)

once you create each tier item, it turns into a one-time consumable and then the passive bonus is added to the outfit. since we're using call of the sea, added to the fishing outfit (whether it be the shark outfit in the future or not) and active as long as you're wearing all 5 pieces of the outfit.

this could be used for other applicable skilling auras, it brings gameplay investment, it helps newer players gather it naturally. it could branch out beyond just skilling to apply to the legendary slayer's aura, that one could JUST be a slayer points passive you purchase to make tasks take longer on purpose.

I wouldn't mind if it was a per-aura change either and not an all-at-once kind of deal - no one seemed to have problems with Five Finger Discount or Siphoning going into the hanky point store or being a passive base success rate buff in the runespan - so those 2 can go and effects be applied but the rest left for now 🤷 I personally prefer that approach too especially if there will be a gap between aura removal and havenhythe if effects are going to be new relics or soemthing.

quiet zenith

average early game ironman has zero auras

mystic gate
#

Auras are literally how i have managed to level some of the skills i dislike in runescape, your talking about that 1 hour locked into a skill as a negative? not all players like all skills... auras give you manageable chunks of time to focus on skills you don't like to get them out the way, here is an idea, if you don't want to be locked in to the same skill for a hour, don't use an aura?

flint olive
#

I think the problem there is that I want to do more than 1 hour.
I did 6 hours of pvm yesterday and would have had to rotate auras/combat styles if I didn't have resets available.

There are definitely some things/skills/activities that I'll say "I can handle 1 hour of grinding this," then move on to another thing.

mystic gate
#

but why the need to take away one in favour of the other, skilling auras should be left as is in my opinion, if you want to add a lower tier version tied permanently to an item then do that as well, just make sure they don't stack to make it too OP

quiet zenith
#

What prevents you from splitting the skill into manageable chunks without auras?

mystic gate

psychology, once you put a timer and a boost on something you don't enjoy it becomes manageable.

no... not if my main account is anything to go by, 20 years and i still havent got 99 agility 😉

quiet zenith

mystic gate
#

on some, yea. totally with you on the combat auras, it dosnt make sense to have a power increase locked to timer. but grind mitigation, if you remove them and put them on an item it just makes the game a bit less grindy over all, its runescape... runescape is a grind, it will still be a grind with a 5% increase on an item, that you will only notice when its not there and unless they add a new item slot for it will make you choose form a full item set that already mitigates the grind in a similar way

skilling auras dont change how you interact with the skill, just for how long and how frequently, i know in my case im far less likely to pick up something like divination mining or fishing without an aura so how does that give them more data?

mystic gate

and the auras are the reason this game isnt fun?

leaden socket
#

theres a lot of reasons this game isnt as fun

subtle ledge
#

I couldn't have said it better myself. Thank you for this! I have been a part of this game for over 20 years and over that time I have learned a way to play with combat that involves the auras. They have been a HUGE boon to me over the years and are still actively used when I go GWD or bossing. They provide an extra level of help and grace that I don't have and haven't been able to gain.

They may be time locked, but that is the benefit of playing for as long as we have. On that same token, level 99s are a time lock as well because you have to play at least a certain amount of time to reach it (without using lamps and bxp.)

The effects of the auras that we have unlocked over time gives us the extra hand on doing skills that others haven't spent the time as part of the game to get. 15% for Lumberjack, FFD, 10% for Mining, those help and to just reduce them to a blanket 5% is, in effect, reducing the time that we have put forth in our efforts to save those points for the auras directly and get them.

Another BIG issue I see coming out of this is that by removing the auras (which could ONLY be got through time and membership) you are now making items that are going to be sold on the GE. This will bring about either more RWT or people paying to win. There really isn't a way around that unless you make the items Iron-man style and non-tradeable, and that won't be happening.

I just see this as something that didn't need to be changed or addressed with all of the other stuff that is vastly more altering to the game that needs to be taken care of, but that (like so many other things here) is only my opinion.

I appreciate the time and effort Jagex has put into RS, but this IMO is a move in the wrong direction at this moment.

That RS3 was not growing in players is not a secret, Jagex said that back on video last year when we started the current process.

There are many things RS3 has done right, but loyalty points and auras is decisively not one of them. They've been a contentious topic for as long as they've existed (and particularly bad response before wars retreat was added and some aura obtaining changed, as meta combat auras was locked behind months of waiting and had no easy means of being reset.)

I don't think the aura pushback is a majority, but its more people than I expected as I thought it would be one of the more celebrated announcements. Might still end up being one of the more celebrated updates, given there was pushback when auras were announced moved to wars retreat too and nobody in their right mind ended up opposing it after the fact.

wanton wyvern

my impression is very much that there's a few players who have been very vocal about it rather than widespread opposition, and where people are opposed, it's overwhelmingly 'you're taking away something I've acquired' and not 'auras are a good system'

And this increase can be gotten without ever playing the game. OS players that have maintained membership will have millions of points to max out auras and have them at lvl 1

mystic gate
#

so give them to everyone

burnt minnow
#

No. Thats not the solution. It just makes new players suffer.
The solution is to remove them and improve the game itself.

leaden socket
#

only thing theyre really doing is deleting the aura slot, deleting the need to activate the auras, and deleting the point system required to purchase the auras.

burnt minnow
#

Another issue is they wernt earned through gameplay.
They break up progression because they come from outside the game.

mystic gate
#

as a group ironman i have all auras available, in fairness this account is only a few months old so that could be a recent change. thats how i would handle the skilling auras. i think the 15 extra logs is a feeble argument against them. the loyalty points removal, fair enough. they were pretty pointless anyway. id also change the analogy slightly, think of them as a splint rather than a bandage, some skills are broken, not slightly cut, you let the break heal before you remove the splint...

burnt minnow
#

I see them as bandages. They cover up the issues that are making the skills feel like they need them.
Sure the skills "function" without them but the wounds are much more obvious.

mystic gate
#

how does removing them make it more obvious? i dont understand that?

burnt minnow
#

Without the auras. gather and xp rates, fail rates, siphon success are much more obviously apparent.
The number of times i failed agility courses alone on leagues made me think "wow i wish i had surefooted" alot.

Things feel "okay" with auras and people get complacent and dont give any feedback on how they could be improved.

#

Given, they dont do that nearly as much as treasure hunter did but still.

#

They also take up reward space.
Buff item rewards and things for skiling have to take into account auras before being added.

mystic gate
#

so take away something that makes a skill ok to make it horrible again so we all start flaming at them about how rubbish agility has become before they implement a change to agility? Maybe the problem they should be looking at is Why have our players stopped giving feedback? what can we do to reopen that dialog sufficiently again

burnt minnow
#

Take away a "fix" that dosent fit the game so the actual problem can be found and fixed with feedback from the players.

mystic gate

tribal lynx
#

Okay that's not too bad since it's what, 10-15 points per task and they take 1-2 hours so kinda self-sustains. I'd probably be way more on board if it was one weapon per style or something 'cause it'll only be like half as effective for the same cost on styles where the weapons don't match unless you can use d-claw specs with a magic weapon or something but that sounds weird. 😅
Sorry for derailin' the aura chat.

knotty gust

More like 25 hours full charge, 1 hydrix gives therefore 125 hours. I can do a reaper task in 30 minutes for 30 points, so 5 hours to get a hydrix for me, more for lower level players doing worse tasks. The fort comps are the actual pain.

Edit: if im particularly tryharding point grinding, zammy seems to be the best with 2 solo enrage mode doable in 10 mins for 32 points, making it less than 2 hours for 300 pts

I dIdn't realise that half of the aura overhaul and the combat overhaul were coming in the same update. My feedback was that the aura changes proposed were good, but to hold off on the combat aura removal until players had a better idea of the combat updates. AFter I'd made that post I found out last week that there'd already been a general combat beta beyond the ranged beta around Christmas time with several iterations. I didn't see this in any news post headlines until last week. Most were generic like patches/updates or talking about Havenhythe. By the time I got a chance to test the combat beta the launcher prevented my game client from loading and is still broken.

Can Jagex please just slow down a bit. We don't need the game to be overhauled overnight. Small iterative changes is all I've ever asked for. Don't get me wrong, the combat updates look awesome, I'm sure everyone's been working super hard on these updates, and for those involved in the changes and the beta, they'll know what's coming, but for other players who aren't combat enthusiasts, you've sprung this on that (larger) group of players without much warning. Something that affects every single player in the game needs multiple headlines and an in-game splash page on logon saying something like "MAJOR COMBAT UPDATES ARE COMING". Sigh.

I know some of you will have followed all of the news posts and tried out the combat beta thoroughly, but as someone who effectively works 50 hours a week, let me have my rant instead of asking me something akin to "have you been hiding under a rock" because for all intents and purposes I may as well have been. I was aware of the upcoming updates and aura removal set for spring (following from the listings of updates for march), but didn't expect this to be the literal 2nd day of Spring. I'm assuming the combat updated is classed as "remastered content update 1" for spring alongside this one? Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Combat auras were disabled in beta, berserker style auras in particular disable all the way back in december beta iteration. The beta has ran for now two months, so sure not everyone has tried it out, but at some point it has to release. There had been news post about combat beta update at least once a week leading up to release for several weeks now.

IMO it was clearly best to do the combat auras with the combat update, so we didn't have extra power on top that we'll have to yoink away a month later. That would lead to massive outrage as people would get used to the new status quo of big power. Better to balance the combat experience and leveling benefit for no auras straight out of the gate.

Not doing combat auras alongside this update would cause far more issues than dealing with them.

Hiya Jagex mods! The idea of removing auras prompted me to want to surface an issue that honestly I think needs to be addressed regardless, which is resource depletion when WC. Often, I only get about 1-3 logs per Yew or Magic tree before it's cut down. This includes both naturally growing trees and those planted in a farming patch. This is one reason why so many 'Scapers liked the Resourceful aura. While those who've unlocked Invention and reached level 22 can add a Refined tool gizmo to their hatchet, I think some base changes to the chance of resource depletion would be very welcome.

you fix one aspect but leave 5 more in a broken state. I think you need to fix everything else then worry about auras. You gotta distribute the different effects and make it fair for everyone. There is a lot of work into basically refreshing the whole game to fit this new narrative of “fair and balanced” game play for all players. Overall, Jagex is going to likely have to reconceptualise many things throughout the game, the Mahjarrat aura is going to go, and those who paid for it will be annoyed over that too, but that does not change the fact that they were afforded a temporary benefit during the time of its existence, and if they did not use it, that does not change the fact that they paid for the opportunity to. There is no contract made other than for the purchase of that item, which did not stipulate its duration. So I don't think Jagex has a legal duty to refund players, but players will likely consider it a moral obligation to give them something, albeit I doubt Jagex would or should do so (as doing so will set a precedent that's difficult to upkeep in future interactions, if you did it for Mahjarrat why can't you do it for other auras, etc).

It’s frustrating to see this person quit the game after feeling scammed. How many other players who don’t follow the news have experienced the same thing and might end up leaving? Casual players don’t read every piece of news about the game, and they shouldn’t have to in order to avoid being punished for it. If an item is about to be permanently removed, the responsibility is on Jagex to disable the purchase or clearly warn players in-game. Expecting every player to follow external news just to avoid losing something they just bought isn’t realistic. When someone can buy an item normally and it gets removed two days later without compensation, it’s understandable why people would feel misled.

If they really wanted to be transparent, they would have prevented the purchases or issued refunds (maybe not for everyone, but at least for those who bought the item during a certain period).

It really gives the impression that they’re just trying to squeeze as much money as possible.

Integrity is the quality of being honest, having strong moral principles, and maintaining consistency between actions and values, often defined as doing the right thing even when no one is watching.( I have not seen that with anything they have done past or present)

removing some auras while claiming they dont like the time-gated nature of them altogether while leaving others in that are time gated in the exact same way as ones they removed is 100% dishonest in every way. the no compensation is another blow

Daily suggestion to read blog posts to get a pretty good idea the reasoning as to why they are removing stuff, when they are, what they are offering to give replacements for some stuff being removed.

# barren gull the blog post that is not up yet you mean?

Well you see, they posted a blog post that outlined the reasoning as to why auras are bad. That blog post also gave some info on what was going, what was staying in effects, possible replacements, etc. It seems, more times than not, people dont read these blogs or hyperfixate on a single issue rather than looking at the problems of auras as a whole

Are said replacements going strait to my bank?

When I said that casual players don’t follow the news, this is a good example of why Jagex should have disabled the purchases. 🙃

I mean I agree but thats also a player issue

Censorship lol

I personally hope that they remove auras, give no replacements, and fix core gameplay issues instead

At least you can spell that word correctly

Genuine question, is this not a private discord server?

Yeah. No. Not having that misinformation being posted (in regards to the message that was deleted)

if there is any compensation for mahjarrat it'd need to be very thought out. either as another item or rune coins.

if its bonds, they will tank even more than they already have.

same for hydrix items if they give back reaper points.

They could probably just make it a variant on the glowing eyes aura, which adds a gem pattern to the player's forehead

barren gull

They're not giving anything back, even the blog thats supposed to be put out today at the latest isnt even up and its almost end of day 3pm at this time

Let's get back on just leaving aura feedback here instead of just turning it into a "hate on everything jagex does" thread

paper sundial

Why they gone so whats there to discuss about auras

languid lion
burnt minnow
#

They're just guna ramble on about "muh compensation"

languid lion
#

im fence sitting compensation - obviously people have already gotten huge boons from the aura in game and have earned well over the cost of getting it to begin with

paper sundial
#

Where did i say anything about compensation

burnt minnow
#

Not to mention they already said we are getting stuff to replace the most used auras

hard pasture
#
  • stuff will be introduced to the game with similar effect. We won't just "get them".
( just incase people will think they'll find the replacements in their bank on release).
Atleast it's the most reasonable thing to assume we'll have to obtain the replacements in some way
burnt minnow
#

One of the reasons they gave for removing auras is that they dont fit into game progression at all. They're not earned. I'd say it's fair to make people earn the replacements

Dont matter what they do i cant trust making any purchases i know many others feel same

"Any players who spent bonds to acquire an aura in the last 3 months (after 1st December 2025) will have those bonds automatically returned to their accounts when the aura overhaul goes live.
Additionally, any players who purchased the Mahjarrat Aura using Reaper points in the past 90 days (since 3rd December 2025) will have those points returned to them, though the timing on this still needs to be finalized."
