#Road to Restoration – Aura Overhaul

Bone shield being nerfed is a whole other ballence change
Fair. I guess if your critique is they're designing too much around main-scape, that's fair; but I don't see Jagex really changing that any time soon. :/
The issue is; shields have to somehow be made fun to use/switch into.
I'm sure more than half the reason BS was added was to "reduce switch scape" .
Idk how many players would cheer for "Yay, I get to go -1 inv and +2/3 clicks to fire off a Res so that I can feel obligated to feel the joy of shields again."
Its a loose loose atm .. if you spent loyalty points on bonds or Auras your going to feel hard done by no mater what. To be honest, I don't care about the buffs that much and I'm sure with as much feedback as there has been you will find a solution. Redistribute the buffs in someway and compensate us for removing something from the game we paid for. I like the idea of giving us a token for the new Marketplace for each Aura or Item you remove. Works as a refund for Loyalty points, Auras, any other item. Put effort into the new Marketplace simplifying the number of contact points and outside and inside game currency's. Remove the Loyalty store, and make runecoins and reward tokens the only currency. Give reward tokens as compensation, add them to all membership packages, drop a few in-game. Continue free offerings also for all on a monthly basis. Make it a rewarding process by offering outfits in piece form "chest, legs, boots, gloves, hat, cape," so it takes a little time to collect a whole outfit. I truly believe the changes will improve the game, and I think the above approach will sooth discontent and foster community spirit.
Happy Scaping
@paper sundial @subtle pier I use shield and I refuse to play switch scape at all!
Im not switching prayers or my shield out I go into the boss room as the Conquer
i might've read over it but when was aura removal?
@trail parcel hopefully 2075
the date hasn't been announced yet. they have been taking feedback from this thread and reddit. the last update we heard was this part from the #1476581268698435765 blog
Combat auras are being disabled on either the 2nd or 9th of next month. The rest are tbd
Vamp and Penance are staying until they're migrated to something else*
so they are gonna disable soms auras without providing a replacement?gg
The replacement is combat stats going to 120.
yeah but i see inspiration for example on the list thats being cut
no amount of leveling gonna compensate that
The combat rework is making that obsolete. The combat styles that had adren issues are getting easy ways to juice adren.
"Their acquisition is time-gated, requiring lots of real-life time to obtain. You can't speed this up in any way."
- Make it faster to acquire them? And their are ways in-game to get basically the same effect.. Supreme Wisdom= Magic Incense Sticks ..etc [talk about micromanaging making sure to keep in inv and an eye on the timer so you do not loose the overload buff]
"This can leave you in a spot where you feel under-powered compared to other players until you're able to acquire them."
- I have never EVER once thought this while playing the game. And, again, their' are similar effects you can use in game if one feeles so 'under powered'.
" Their timed nature and cooldowns place time-locks and time pressures on you and your gameplay."
-They are 'buffs' to game play. It is expected that they are not going to last forever. Again, I have never felt 'pressure or time locked' when playing with Auras on. If you are playing the game based strictly around the cool down on Auroras...um.. well..their is no wrong way to play the game I suppose.
" They aren't "earned" through gameplay. They're direct buffs that don't need you to do anything in-game to earn them.
-Seemes like Wars Retreat has this covered. Is the only way to get the Auras in his shop is through gameplay.
"Most Auras are 'miscellaneous' buffs that don't actually add any real depth to your gameplay.
They add an extra system to micromanage on top of everything else you already have to."
- Again I have never felt like this is a hindering, slowing down or stalling my game play. I know they are buffs that will not last all day that were earned through being a 'loyal member' for 5 years.
Just a question. Was a survey sent out about how the community feels about Auras? If not why not send one out?
-WhangBang
@potent arch thank you very much for this input im the same feel aswell the boss fights last an hour anyway so whats the point of even messing with them
They've never felt time gated aswell
@potent arch I just tried temple of aminishi with all my best stuff and the guardian still rocked me tried twice with auras on and I simply dont see where in the flying fuck any nerfs are needed infact they need to be buffed if anything there is no possible way new players would think there op at all even mentioning this is clear stupidity
Just a question. Was a survey sent out about how the community feels about Auras? If not why not send one out?
Years of hate against the system has been all the feedback they needed to realise it needed massive changes
There were surveys with questions about auras over the last year yes
people acting like auras are getting hate out of nowhere is wild
Aura hate was a bit lessened by wars retreat. Before that auras was one of the most widely hated systems in the game.
After that it was just kinda hated, but then croesus came out and hate blossomed up again since more use for skilling auras, then fell a bit again as people moved on to other content.
Unfortunately, alot of this is subjective.
Many players, such as myself. Fully agree with all these decisions.
Years of hate for the aura system and what it was born from have tainted peoples perceptions of it. Especially those players that where around long before they where added.
I think what they're trying to do is upset the fewest number of people possible.
And that means removing auras and making them not needed via buffing skills/combat/ect so that they feel better.
Weather through leveling benefits, buffing the baseline skill, or adding functions through other means.
In the end, no matter the change. There will be people that are unhappy with it
Some people wont get what they want and thats that. They cant please everybody.
Even if changing how auras are obtained and work to make them no longer horrid would "fix" things. It wouldent take away the distain that a large portion of the player base has for them.
Letting people buy tradable versions from war’s retreat with uncapped marks of war/hour would upset far fewer people. It would take nothing away from people that they have. Deleting them with or without refund is far more abrasive than that, and it looks like it will be no refund.
At this point auras just need to go entirely.
Idk, i feel like people dont really want easyscape, as much as some would like to think. Effectively permanent easy to obtain auras is even more terrible than the current system.
Imagine some of the strongest upgrades you can get just being handed to you.
Idealy the auras would be removed and problem areas fixed so that things arent horrible feeling. But also arent op.
I don't know what the plan for the Aura spot is but it would be nice to Not have to remove urns that are stored in The BoTG to use them along with a scrimshaw in order to have it activated. I this case I have Divination Urns in the Brooch of the gods and the Superior energy-gathering scrimshaw but in order to use the urns along with the scrimshaw I have to remove the urns from the brooch so I can equip and activate the scrimshaw. If the scrimshaw could take the aura spot then they can both be used without removing the urns and putting them back again to save bank space if they are not all used up.
You can remove urns from the brooch (in the right-click options). Then you don't have to keep swapping to start a new urn. I'll remove a small stack for my hour or so to afk. If I don't use them, they go right back in the brooch for storage.
I do get what you're saying, just trying to offer a qol bit of knowledge for now.
So if core issues with auras is timer
then remove the timing portion of them and leave it as is.
let players start stop at will.
Aquiring them through similar gameplay to currently Mahjarrat, Desert Pantheon, and Dwarven Instinct, Vampyrism, Dark magic, Berserker, Reckless Manical are offered.
Icthlarin and Amascut should have their set of boon offers for combat after auras are removed. It doesn't make sense they are the the only 2 from the desert pantheon to offer nothing.
@quiet zenith I've never once heard anyone say anything negative about auras
Also if jagex is listening why not just give ports dungeoneering reaper points for loyalty points i mean that would make some sense
so simply re attributing them instead of complete removal would be worse then throwing them into content that is require bigger overhauls like summ or a pocket slot that you apparently only able to have "one" of? let alone a relic system that they dont wanna poke around in?
the aura slot itself is no issue and thats clear as day but if you wanna argue people gotta get affected by it negatively your missing the point of what i wrote.
I like why the aura slot is
Go to inventory choose one activate it do what you want with it
Play to unlock, remove the timer if its such a problem... start stop just like that! done
The skills themselves need to be fixed not bandaged
@urban tide removing the timer would fix the whole problem
@burnt minnow have you even done late game bossing?
Yea. I have. What does that have to do with fixing non combat skills?
@burnt minnow wait so you've been talking about skilling auras this hole time then
Yea. Combat auras are already slated to be removed and replaced with 120s. And penace/vamp are being discussed.
@burnt minnow see if read your comments of removal of all auras witch i couldn't see how anyone would want that
I want all auras removed, not given alternatives, while fixing the core gameplay issues that make it so players feel the need to use auras
This idealy
I do not want to see auras removed at all
The point is that we should not gain any gameplay benefits from loyalty points.
So youd rather we leave core gameplay loops unfixed and just bandaged with auras?
But it does seem like there are quite a bit of people who want to bandaid fix the bandaid fix auras give by keeping them in game, but with a changed timer, which misses the point enitrely why auras are bad
We shouldn't have reaper points product crash in value by some passive currency for existing, or bypass dungeoneering or so on.
@quiet zenith I dont see why we shouldn't its something already bought and paid for just like being a member and a non member
Because its bad for the game
@quiet zenith personally I wouldn't be taking the reaper points id be wanting pearls
So do you think, since they are removing aurs, and as of right now not looking to refund some of them, that players should be able to decide how they get refunded from in game items?
Loss of player morale for these things is also bad for the game
Not giving something for loyalty points completely fn ruins trust from the players to jagex team!! You take loyalty points away with no compensation
None of these players will ever trust them again
Morale means alot in a game in life in a workplace remember that
@fleet vapor I do think this entirely i dont think someone with 4 mil loyalty points should get 4 mil reaper points
Make it like a conversion
I dont think someone with 4 million loyalty points should get any reaper points
No conversion needed. They where given for free. They dont need to be reimbursed for something free.
@burnt minnow they were given to spend as currency nice try
Also player morale will increase overall when the game continues to get into a better healthy state, which includes removing auras
They where. For free. And they can be removed. Cause they're worth nothing now.
@burnt minnow no they were NOT for free it was pay a little extra to start earning these
They where free. You got them for free by maintaining membership. Something most people do anyway if they enjoy the game.
The point of membership is to play the game. Not get loyaltoy points.
Then adress the situation where free to play doesnt have acess to anything members
It's the same concept
Buying access to play more of the game is not the same as buying access to p2w auras
Just had an idea for equilibrium aura replacement, since 90% of eq usage is with necro, why not add a 5th conjure - undead barbarian or something, still only allow a maximum of 4 up at once so you have to choose between phantom guardian/zombie and this. give it a passive that prevents critting but empowers all dmg, basically copy paste it from equilibrium. You could even give it a command ability that further empowers damage for your next ability by like an additional 3% since necro isn’t getting any dmg boost from 120 lvl benefits like the other styles, this could be something to ease the blow.
@fleet vapor define pay to win? In runescape because of alot of content is locked behind quest
The entire point of membership. Is to play more of the game. Its purchasing a simple key to a door.
You paid money. You were given loyalty points. Loyalty points were then spent on auras that provided boosts to gameplay which you couldnt get via gameplay means
Also fire conjure idea - I dig it Zelaro
@burnt minnow maintaining membership was another key to the door aswell
Not in the slightest. Youre going in circles with your logic here.
loyalty points was not accompanied with any price change to membership when it was added. It was just added on top of the existing normal membership. Nobody paid any extra for it becoming a thing.
Sure you got loyalty points to spend as a currency, but nothing says what you could spend it on had to be anything with gameplay effects.
are we really doing another day of "hurdur I paid for LP" when that is not the reason you pay for a membership subscription
@burnt minnow your not seeing the picture here also @fleet vapor you could buy bonds on ge to get auras as well so nice try
Honestly I don't see an issue with just going invention perk for equilibrium, given it is inherently mutually exclusive with biting so if you're going hard on equilbrium you've already opened up a perk slot
No. im seeing the entire picture. your picture is just very badly drawn and missing pieces.
Biting is +crit chance. Equilbrium is +damage no crit chance. One disables the other.
Ya perk probably fine, but an interchangeable conjure is more flexible than always being eq locked or needing an equipment separator to swap it out
Yes bonds are another p2w part of the game, which has nothing to do with loyaty points. As much as you try to stretch your argument into areas that arent relevant, its not really working out for you tbh
How is quests p2w. Can you pay to finish a quest?
It's a circular argument just like the other day, the game comes with trade-offs as I said. Auras are entirely inorganic and not obtainable through simply playing the game considering as even kobra has said several times over, you can just be subscribed and never log into rs3 specifically to still accumulate LP
@burnt minnow free to play members dont have acess to anything near what members have nor bosses or quest or auras its all members content
Obviously you buy membership and get more quests - this obviously means p2w
They're being intentionally obtuse and using a circular argument just like yesterday and they are clearly not understanding what pay to win actually means
Thats unlocking the ability to do content. Not paying to skip conent and get items. Its completely diffrent.
Im just guna block em and move on.
Reminder that the game is pay to play and subscribing does not give you the ability to auto-complete a quest etc
@quiet zenith you can only acess these quest through members and gain the benefits from completing them p2w @fleet vapor your not making very good points of interest back so it would seem im correct Next
Again, that isn't what pay to win means. Get an actual argument or as we were told yesterday by saint, move on
I feel this argument is not only circular, but can't even get the agreement that there was an issue with auras or that people have historically had issues with auras (I don't believe people who played before Wars Retreat would never have heard complaints about auras, berserker auras situation was very unpopular)
Having a core, plain membership as the primary means to funding is fine. Unlike MTX, everyone shares the same tier, you can't repeat buy to get an increasing advantage and so on. It grants access to a big portion of the game but functionally its an access ticket and doesn't do anything other than let you in the gate.
This is radically distinct from being given currency that straight up progress you in the game.
I literally said I agreed with you in my last message by saying unlocking more quests are p2w via membership
@distant zodiac here Ile drop straight facts: Pay-to-win (P2W) refers to games allowing players to gain significant competitive advantages—such as powerful gear, exclusive abilities, or resource boosts—by spending real money, often making it difficult for non-paying players to compete.
Considering it's been the same circular nonsense for 3 days, if not more... it's obviously disingenuous and I'm half tempted to just ping the mods to quash this again
Mods just say stop, then we go back at it in a few hours tbf, its a cycle
Clearly still doesn't understand what pay to win means, but keep trying buddy.
He's rambling in circles. He wont stop.
@fleet vapor okay agreed
Yeah I'm dropping out. If we consider any payment at all to be p2w, then games with a pricetags are p2w.
I appreciate you agreeing with us, thank you
I knew we could get through to Drinkbeer
@distant zodiac @burnt minnow
Again heres the definition!
Do free to play members have acess to members stuff ? No they dont Pay-to-win (P2W) refers to games allowing players to gain significant competitive advantages—such as powerful gear, exclusive abilities, or resource boosts—by spending real money, often making it difficult for non-paying players to compete.
Show me where paying for a monthly subscription allows you to skip the content brother. Go on
@distant zodiac are you just ignoring the definition i put out here
Take your circular nonsense elsewhere, since nobody here is falling for it
Considering that isn't the definition, yes actually
I don’t know if this has already been seen or suggested at some point, but as an option for changing the vampirism aura, instead of putting it on a summoning familiar, why not allocate the healing effect into magic and ranged DoT abilities, similar to what we have in melee today? Necromancy already has healing through the ghost, but you could always add a smaller healing percentage to the Bloat ability in case it gets worse than the other styles.
@distant zodiac okay show me your definition because I just pulled that from Google
<@&303835261203251201>
Good idea, useless in group content - would only work well if bleeds are fixed, but I love the idea
f2p is a demo, much like if I play a free demo for resident evil that doesn't mean that buying said game is p2w
Pinging because i'm not going to risk myself getting timed out
Guys, please don't use this area to argue with each other. Step away and take a breather.
Respectfully, it doesnt help when they tag people trying to incite arguments. Its been that case for days now
I've seen discussions on dot damage being placed in a pool of damage in order to be better used in group content, probably something good comes out of it
For what it's worth, I'm not bothered. I'm just tired of seeing the same, disingenous and circular nonsense we were told to stop previously
Yeah that seems like a cool change - I'd love to see bleeds changed and some solid healing from them, would be kinda neat
It's practically impossible for anyone else to say anything because it's drowned out by the garbage
Agreed! specially since magic sustain is bad now in comparisson to melee (only via blood spells which have a % chance to heal) also ranged doesn't have any sustain at all, so good all around
well you see the problem your stating is a one fit all model we cant solve every combat instance making all auras active at the same time no? then whats the band aid?, its different forms of buffs used at varying spots for the players to figure out... even if were in a point where wiki and end-game players show us whats optimal or "recommended" usage its up to the player to figure out
People forget about this one
People had the option to buy them via bonds as well. Not lp only. As well as we have the option to buy membership.
High lvl bossing, then buy bonds, then acquire auras. Its like 1.2b for bonds for anual membership. Whatsup with all those hours i had to invest doing pvm. To purchase the bonds to then unlock the auras. Thrown away like my time its nothing? That aint good. Instead of making them more available
I acquired my auras thru hard work. Sweating for hours grinding so i could afford the bonds to acquire my auras. Thats why i feel i earned them. Some of you dont want them? Thats not my problem but many of us earned them this method. And i dont want my time and hard work be taken with the excuse “you get lp passively”
You earned membership. Not loyalty points. Loyalty points are free with membership. A bonus
150,000 lp for signing up to anual membership my guy. Right away
Still a bonus. Membership is the primary reason to get membership.
That i paid for with gp? Thru hard work?
Yeah. The membership was the reward for your hard work.
Nope. I did it for the 150,000 lps right away. For me membership was the bonus
So without it you'd not get membership? You'd play f2p (or not at all)?
Thats just backwards.
Again. I mainly did it for the lps. Which took me hours to get not to mention a lot of money
@ornate mural Im in agreeable with this sentiment I did the 150k as well for the loyalty points
But without membership. The lps are useless. you cant get them without membership. Or even use them
Sure i could wait for the lps to accumulate. But im not a lazy player, i worked hours and hours to unlock them quicker via bonds that i paid with gp
Without membership you cant do a lot of stuff my guy
Doesn't that kinda prove his point that membership is the foundational part?
Yeah. Thats the point of membership. To play more of the game.
And thats what i did?
So you would not bother using bonds for membership without loyalty points existing?
Nope, just pay for membership. Which is more pay to win than working and buying bonds with your hard earned gp
if your motivation for a product wasn't the main thing, but a tacked on advance on what should've been a cosmetic bonus.
you're buying the wrong product
For me it was an harder but quicker path
If you'd pay for membership with irl without loyalty points, I don't get why you'd not pay for membership with irl with loyalty points. Why would that affect your choice of method to get said membership?
This argument is not productive and will not change anyones' minds about their feelings towards the situation/proposed changes.
150,000 lps as signing bonus right away so i can acquire auras faster
That existed both ways. There is no distinction between method used to pay for membership on that front.
At this point its not worth trying to convince anyone.
You can purchase that with real monry or bonds. Its not a bond only thing
Drop the conversation at this point. It is going in circles and no one will change their stance.
Yes. But same for normal membership. I went the extra mile, investing my time and money to get the bonds to then get the auras quicker. I didnt get them easily nor for free. Had to play for hours and hours. I dont want to convince anyone, but this was also an option for people to get them quicker.
Bluei, did you read what Ally JUST posted?
Your argument is going in circles. Please drop it
alright - hear me out. i'm gonna use "Legendary Call of the Sea" as my example, it's basically going to be entirely fishing based.
so we've got 99/120 levels for rewards and content. Clearly, adding a 15% increase at all times is not ideal for power-creep and game balance, at least as far as the devs have been concerned so far. So we treat it like some kind of grind combined with unlock, maybe matching the xp bonus on the elite outfit.
so tier 1 is 1%, etc, to tier 5 which goes up to 6%.
mechanics - RNG while you're fishing within tiers for pieces of items to drop. when you gather all of them (let's say there's 4) you can either use some kind of crafting level, take it to an NPC, or have putting it together be attached to a specific fishing level. let's say tier 1 is for fishing anything levels 1-20. tier 2 would be 21-40. tier 3 would be 41-60. tier 4 would be 61-80. tier 5 would be 81-99/100. (you would need to create each tier in order to unlock it ofc, so tier 1 unlock is required to craft/consume tier 2)
once you create each tier item, it turns into a one-time consumable and then the passive bonus is added to the outfit. since we're using call of the sea, added to the fishing outfit (whether it be the shark outfit in the future or not) and active as long as you're wearing all 5 pieces of the outfit.
this could be used for other applicable skilling auras, it brings gameplay investment, it helps newer players gather it naturally. it could branch out beyond just skilling to apply to the legendary slayer's aura, that one could JUST be a slayer points passive you purchase to make tasks take longer on purpose.
no its 2.2b and i got it a month ago, havent regretted anything since i got it for member not loyalty points
This exactly. What a silly argument.
If fishing, for instance is bad, they should fix that. We dont need an aura to do that, it can be done baseline or with in game upgrades, like a rod.
But fishing isnt a problem. I actually see no reason for any aura, other than a nerfed vamp and maybe a buffed blood penance to really exist.
that's neat, but they said they want to move auras to other places within the game, and i was providing a suggestion for where they could move it.
Well, they werent moving chance based auras anywhere, they are getting deleted. Its mostly the combat utility that are in question
if you're referring to the slayer aura as a suggestion, i was just being hopeful. i assume you aren't referring to the fishing aura, which they already said they're planning to add to a totem. the "totem of auras" to be specific.
i'll copy/paste for you - "Call of the Sea, Flameproof, Lumberjack, Tracker - Replace Anachronia's Totem of Auras effect, and rename it to "Totem of the Skiller".
Yeah, thats fair. We all wish slayer was a little less random
Their plans can change though
I think totems might have been getting changed too, i remember that mentioned.. as another annoying daily
sure can! that's why i threw my suggestion into the ring ;D
Combat auras are being disabled early next month. Minus penance and vamp. All others are tbd
Not really going downhill tho.
There's gonna be an end-of-month summary of some sort* (suspect it will be a Monday blog post, not a scheduled over the weekend one) which should give some insight into some things. Whether it's a planned date or "we have lots of feedback give us time to parse it" I don't mind. It'd be weird if it didn't line up with the combat beta going live tho' at least for some auras.
* that's based on this comment - #social-feed message
Did i get pinged here?
he was sniped for the doomer comment
Ahh. Gotcha. Wonder what was said
Yes this is what I do also but since they are removing auras I just thought it would be nice to have a spot for scrimshaws since the BoTG also has has several effects while worn.
One piece of QoL I'd like regarding brooch is if it acted like an urn enhancer. Or an urn enhancer could be sacrificed to add the effect passively, kind of like how a spirit cape can be sacrificed to a comp cape to make that effect passive. I always forget to bring it along and from your screenshot, it looks like you might have too 🙈
Yeah, I doubt they are going to go forward with skilling and utility aura changes yet without further blogging about them
I wouldn't mind if it was a per-aura change either and not an all-at-once kind of deal - no one seemed to have problems with Five Finger Discount or Siphoning going into the hanky point store or being a passive base success rate buff in the runespan - so those 2 can go and effects be applied but the rest left for now 🤷 I personally prefer that approach too especially if there will be a gap between aura removal and havenhythe if effects are going to be new relics or soemthing.
You've copy pasted this message in this thread multiple times now. Please do not do it again, as we consider this to be spam. @formal ravine
is anything we could possibly write in this thread now likely to affect what happens tomorrow? tomorrow is a regular working day, meaning a lot of people will log in during the evening and be overwhelmed at once with tons of changes which make all their methods they still used until today suddenly not work anymore when they log in, all their actionbars half empty with the various ability removal and changes, and step by step guidance on how to adapt to each of the changes gradually missing
Im 100% sure that only the zerk and accuracy auras are going tomorrow. Stuff like penance and vamp and skilling auras are still here
Knockout
Brawler
Runic Accuracy
Sharpshooter
Ancestor Spirits
Berserker
Maniacal
Reckless
Dark Magic
Regeneration
Aegis
Mahjarrat
Inspiration
Equilibrium
Invigorate
someone in my clan said all auras are removed tomorrow even though for some of them it hasn't been decided yet what they'll be replaced with
zerk and accuracy going away together with raising mage/range/melee to 120 makes sense since they'll be actually superfluous
removing mahj, invig, inspiration, equi and dm will be a nerf to necro since necro combat mainly used those
Aren't these going to be removed as part of the aura overhaul which comes later? And for tomorrow it's just the berserker auras?
If you have an issue with moderator action, contact @violet flame.
Basically apart from mahj, invig and eq nothing relevant (as the zerk and accuracy auras are addresses with 120s). Can understand that theres some concern for necro but best to wait and see.
Dw its just those that eiki listed.
I believe only disabled and not yet removed. Not like that makes a difference, either way can't use it.
Havent really followed the discussion here so just wondering if there was any confirmation about a "fix" to necromancy to compensate for the lost of aura since necro dont get the 120 combat buff like magic/melee/ranged?
Most common thought is making equilibrium an invention perk.
equilibrium as a perk, replaces biting ig
Was that actually confirmed?
thats their current idea
If thats the case thats fine
Just hope its the same power and not a weaker version. You could already camp equilibirum aura 24/7 with wax.
They were looking at something for supreme invigorating as well because that was the other option for necro.
I believe energizing perk took this on?
Isnt energyzing something about improving accuracy now?
Uhhh, idk. I just heard it through the grape vines
No. Its in reffrence to content that has become obsolete. Like minigames and such.
The Devs did say they are willing to look into necro dmg numbers if they feel the gap gets too large between the styles - obviously not a confirmed thing but they acknowledged it. They are tweaking skull cd in ld, which is something
Don’t take out auras. Games already hard for early game Ironman with the help of auras. Skills like Hunter are terrible and max out at like 50k xp/hr bc you keep nerfing things into the ground.
average early game ironman has zero auras
Auras are literally how i have managed to level some of the skills i dislike in runescape, your talking about that 1 hour locked into a skill as a negative? not all players like all skills... auras give you manageable chunks of time to focus on skills you don't like to get them out the way, here is an idea, if you don't want to be locked in to the same skill for a hour, don't use an aura?
I think the problem there is that I want to do more than 1 hour.
I did 6 hours of pvm yesterday and would have had to rotate auras/combat styles if I didn't have resets available.
There are definitely some things/skills/activities that I'll say "I can handle 1 hour of grinding this," then move on to another thing.
but why the need to take away one in favour of the other, skilling auras should be left as is in my opinion, if you want to add a lower tier version tied permanently to an item then do that as well, just make sure they don't stack to make it too OP
What prevents you from splitting the skill into manageable chunks without auras?
psychology, once you put a timer and a boost on something you don't enjoy it becomes manageable.
Isn't it much similar with once you put a limited boost on something you'll not want to do it when said boost is unavailable
no... not if my main account is anything to go by, 20 years and i still havent got 99 agility 😉
I know I stop skilling when I run out of skilling aura, or stop bossing when I run out of combat aura, even if I'd like to continue otherwise.
on some, yea. totally with you on the combat auras, it dosnt make sense to have a power increase locked to timer. but grind mitigation, if you remove them and put them on an item it just makes the game a bit less grindy over all, its runescape... runescape is a grind, it will still be a grind with a 5% increase on an item, that you will only notice when its not there and unless they add a new item slot for it will make you choose form a full item set that already mitigates the grind in a similar way
Aura-locked ironman?
With the removal of auras the devs can work on skills and fix what makes them bad in the fist place. As it is now auras are a bandage fix for the issues.
Idk the actual numbers and how far ahead the other styles will be after the change, but this is still a big nerf to necro damage if they dont replace the aura with anything. Ill hope that they're really adding equilibrium perk like someone said earlier.
and they cant work on these skills before removing all auras?
By removing the auras players will be forced to engage with the sills without them.
Allowing them to find the issues first hand and provide feedback on what exactly needs to change.
Without that feedback it would just be a blind change esentally
The effects that replace auras are intended to go live at the same time as aura removal
skilling auras dont change how you interact with the skill, just for how long and how frequently, i know in my case im far less likely to pick up something like divination mining or fishing without an aura so how does that give them more data?
is pickpocketing mena guards still 1.3m xp/hr after the nerfs?
if so, i think its safe to say theyre going to continue to give us good xp rates with the removal of auras once more skills have their level cap raised.
so make the game easier to play? that will really help the sense of achievement when we are all 120 in every skill next year
They feel mandatory. Making people not want to do the skill unless they are using the aura.
why do they feel mandatory to you? they don't to me. i enjoy alot of the skills with an aura or without
b/c for a lot more RS players than most games, optimisation is part of the fun, meaning it's incumbent on the devs to make efficient play also fun
and the auras are the reason this game isnt fun?
theres a lot of reasons this game isnt as fun
I couldn't have said it better myself. Thank you for this! I have been a part of this game for over 20 years and over that time I have learned a way to play with combat that involves the auras. They have been a HUGE boon to me over the years and are still actively used when I go GWD or bossing. They provide an extra level of help and grace that I don't have and haven't been able to gain.
They may be time locked, but that is the benefit of playing for as long as we have. On that same token, level 99s are a time lock as well because you have to play at least a certain amount of time to reach it (without using lamps and bxp.)
The effects of the auras that we have unlocked over time gives us the extra hand on doing skills that others haven't spent the time as part of the game to get. 15% for Lumberjack, FFD, 10% for Mining, those help and to just reduce them to a blanket 5% is, in effect, reducing the time that we have put forth in our efforts to save those points for the auras directly and get them.
Another BIG issue I see coming out of this is that by removing the auras (which could ONLY be got through time and membership) you are now making items that are going to be sold on the GE. This will bring about either more RWT or people paying to win. There really isn't a way around that unless you make the items Iron-man style and non-tradeable, and that won't be happening.
I just see this as something that didn't need to be changed or addressed with all of the other stuff that is vastly more altering to the game that needs to be taken care of, but that (like so many other things here) is only my opinion.
I appreciate the time and effort Jagex has put into RS, but this IMO is a move in the wrong direction at this moment.
im surprised at how much pushback every road to restoration blog has received. jagex says this is bad we want to change it but players say no stop changing my game, it doesnt make much sense but maybe its a vocal minority.
I completely get where you are seeing this, but remember that there are A LOT of long time gamers here. Once you have gotten use to something over the course of a decade and then something goes and changes it (and it wasn't of your choice) the natural reaction is to buck. Not an easy thing to fight from a company's standpoint, but an inevitability.
no, there is a reason this game is as old and has a playerbase this size, they did things right. the reason they are getting so much pushback is they are focusing on things the majority of the player base hasn't asked for and doesn't want. it shows a lack of respect for the players that supported them this far
Runescape simply wasn't really growing so things needed to be changed. And that's why they are changing all the things a lot of people have complained about for years such as auras and a lot of the other things 🤷♂️. If they did things right we wouldn't be having this "Road to Restoration"
Yeah I have faith the Devs will cook up some stuff for the necro gamers - cant keep necro starving
Survivorship bias
what do you think the player size is?
Everything you wrote here is an inversion of my understanding of this issue
20-30k online at any one time noot the numbers it once had but show me another near 3 decade old game with close to that
technically osrs is 6x higher than that and older. wow has at least 6m active subs.
Well OSRS is a 2013 spinoff so not older, but OSRS did start 2013 and 2014 off with way smaller playerbase and unlike rs3 which have kept declining OSRS has reached back to 2006 peak player numbers.
fair point, i ported my main across when it launched so i forget its technically a different game
That's really interesting. I didn't know skilling auras were even a thing until this blog came out and am still somehow maxed. Considering they are locked behind loyalty points, are you saying people train skills less once they unlock them?
That RS3 was not growing in players is not a secret, Jagex said that back on video last year when we started the current process.
There are many things RS3 has done right, but loyalty points and auras is decisively not one of them. They've been a contentious topic for as long as they've existed (and particularly bad response before wars retreat was added and some aura obtaining changed, as meta combat auras was locked behind months of waiting and had no easy means of being reset.)
I don't think the aura pushback is a majority, but its more people than I expected as I thought it would be one of the more celebrated announcements. Might still end up being one of the more celebrated updates, given there was pushback when auras were announced moved to wars retreat too and nobody in their right mind ended up opposing it after the fact.
my impression is very much that there's a few players who have been very vocal about it rather than widespread opposition, and where people are opposed, it's overwhelmingly 'you're taking away something I've acquired' and not 'auras are a good system'
Eyup. especally at high lvls.
What makes them even worse is that unlike combat auras the max teir skilling auras cant be reset.
So you 100% have to wait those 3 hours for it to become useable again.
im so tired of reading the "loyal players are being taken advantage of" shtick
Same
To me as someone who has never used a skilling aura, this comes across as incredibly strange.
It is. As it is now they're bandages for poor xp rates and skilling systems.
They need to be ripped off so the underlying problems actually get fixed
But the xp rates aren't even bad without auras? At least not in my experience. On the contrary.
Some are some arent.
It varys from skill to skill.
Without ever touching skilling auras you have no frame of reffrence.
Most skilling auras just give a flat 15% increase to skilling rates for an hour.
Not good enough apparently, they don't make them like they used to 😉
Some skills tho like agility are just painful to train regardless of aura.
The loyal players thing annoys me because i'm pretty sure majority of people arguing on both sides of the topic is loyal players. I'd take a bet that the average player saying "good riddance" owns like 80% of the auras they can obtain at minimum.
Eyup. Im right there. Own em all but want em gone.
I don't need to have ever used an aura to know what a 15% increase means.
Say you're gathering 100 logs an hour without the aura. With it you are gathering 115 an hour. Along with the xp that goes with those 15 extra logs.
Adds up quite a bit over time
Its just nutty
then remove the 15 logs...
Thats the exact same as removing the aura so. Yes.
It doesn't add up if you're purposefully avoiding training the skill outside of the hour you use the aura
hmm... no i think 15% experiance for a hour is still somthing
And this increase can be gotten without ever playing the game. OS players that have maintained membership will have millions of points to max out auras and have them at lvl 1
so give them to everyone
No. Thats not the solution. It just makes new players suffer.
The solution is to remove them and improve the game itself.
they kinda are, theyre adding them into the skilling progression tree or as permanent unlocks from doing skilling
only thing theyre really doing is deleting the aura slot, deleting the need to activate the auras, and deleting the point system required to purchase the auras.
Another issue is they wernt earned through gameplay.
They break up progression because they come from outside the game.
as a group ironman i have all auras available, in fairness this account is only a few months old so that could be a recent change. thats how i would handle the skilling auras. i think the 15 extra logs is a feeble argument against them. the loyalty points removal, fair enough. they were pretty pointless anyway. id also change the analogy slightly, think of them as a splint rather than a bandage, some skills are broken, not slightly cut, you let the break heal before you remove the splint...
I see them as bandages. They cover up the issues that are making the skills feel like they need them.
Sure the skills "function" without them but the wounds are much more obvious.
how does removing them make it more obvious? i dont understand that?
Without the auras. gather and xp rates, fail rates, siphon success are much more obviously apparent.
The number of times i failed agility courses alone on leagues made me think "wow i wish i had surefooted" alot.
Things feel "okay" with auras and people get complacent and dont give any feedback on how they could be improved.
Given, they dont do that nearly as much as treasure hunter did but still.
They also take up reward space.
Buff item rewards and things for skiling have to take into account auras before being added.
so take away something that makes a skill ok to make it horrible again so we all start flaming at them about how rubbish agility has become before they implement a change to agility? Maybe the problem they should be looking at is Why have our players stopped giving feedback? what can we do to reopen that dialog sufficiently again
Take away a "fix" that dosent fit the game so the actual problem can be found and fixed with feedback from the players.
well, we could argue our points all day long on here and i doubt it would make a difference, lets just wait and see if the remaining playerbase survives this bumpy road to restoration ;P
Ive a feeling it will. Im definitly sticking around for it.
It's already made a difference. They already said that based on inital feedback they're backing off pocket slot/Archeology Relic solutions.
The JMods are clearly listening to feedback.
Think its this specific place that feels ignored on limited responses while ofc they pick and choose feedback its like a vaccume of does it matter
Relics are a bad idea I would say in general
The current implementation is bad. Relics themselves arent whats bad.
The main issue i have is the friction when switching relics.
Chrononote sink works when you are actively doing arch and have the note faucet on. The moment you stop is when you no longer have any income and only a sink. And all those relics are relevant in areas that don't have a note income.
Exactly.
Ive got a good stock of chrononotes but even i dont want to be spending em every time i wana switch.
Makes me feel like i have to use the relic for a long while to make sure i "get my moneys worth"
o yes relics dont fit the aura system, cramming more into pocket slot juggling will not hit home. summoning is in dire ground up change yet aura buffs would entail loss of creatures that was used for its originally turning it into a big nerf...
Yet to understand why to go the extreme mesures instead of leaving the slot and making the auras earnable in game is whats makes sense
well said
What are the consensuses for implementing replacement combat auras so far?

So why not just apply a meet- in-the-middle chargeable buff to skilling head slots?
Consume option to charge the bonus?
jagex themselves presented this as the solution, not the people in this discord.
theres quite alot of variables and a rush to meet a deadline that wasnt necessary, auras work just loyality points was major issue and some feelt like the aura time caused a "fomo" or "required" to use even if aura resets exist 🤷 and reading above you can simply tell its nothing they should shoehorn in
youre blaming an individual for supporting something jagex has said. weird argument but you clearly arent going to change your stance or listen to anyone.
Im just stating facts that myself and many many others agree with.
what do you think is being broken here?
you have the f2p tag and youre talking to someone else about their account age?
Getting angry and argumentative isnt going to help anything.
no we've been here in the chaos trying to get more ideas yet the limitations are up to Jagex and the list they last provided was not much of help, were here to simply combine noggins and figure out stuff in hope they understand the broad implications and cause/corralation that gets affected
im pretty sure my account is older than you
Same here. Mines probably older than yours.
no personal attacks please
Ty mods
theres a pattern with people who talk to other people like that. its been apparent since these threads popped off.
Sadly
suspect theres concerns/worries in the air for tomorrow
Is it true that melee/ranged/magic do like 750k damage in a 37 second ulti in the beta, while necro is 550k/damage in 60 seconds if highly skilled?
How do you test this? Recording a fight and math-ing up all of the hitsplats? Mostly curious as to where I sit on this scale which is probably like 200k a minute or something 🙈
I would prob say slightly closer to 650k for at least mage/melee in ults, but yes
I think people smacked a dummy with a challenge gem in beta
all 3 original combat styles are equal now?
Most of the powercreep seems to be in specs/passives
I would say people spec way less in beta - the base ability kits for the styles are quite juiced
I think the only spec I actively used is the elite excalibur for passive heals 🙈 Are there any good cheap ones or are they all billions of GP?
Guthix staff spec is great
Some cheap options for every style - dragon claws for melee, guthix staff/iban staff for magic, dbow/zbow for range
Most specs are pretty good before this patch
Ah yep, but just having it as a weapon to swap to for the spec since they're quite low level?
They usually go into EOFs
Did the heist dagger outcreep dclaws?
Its better yes
Oh yep, I remember looking at the EoF when it released and noping out of that entirely after realising they need hydrix's to be repaired. The onyxes for Souls is rough enough.
I think an eof has like 15-ish hours of active pvm in it - a full hydrix can give an eof 90-ish hours of charge, which is not the worst upkeep if you do reaper tasks
Also I just realized this is aura channel my bad - put eofs in auras
Okay that's not too bad since it's what, 10-15 points per task and they take 1-2 hours so kinda self-sustains. I'd probably be way more on board if it was one weapon per style or something 'cause it'll only be like half as effective for the same cost on styles where the weapons don't match unless you can use d-claw specs with a magic weapon or something but that sounds weird. 😅
Sorry for derailin' the aura chat.
More like 25 hours full charge, 1 hydrix gives therefore 125 hours. I can do a reaper task in 30 minutes for 30 points, so 5 hours to get a hydrix for me, more for lower level players doing worse tasks. The fort comps are the actual pain.
Edit: if im particularly tryharding point grinding, zammy seems to be the best with 2 solo enrage mode doable in 10 mins for 32 points, making it less than 2 hours for 300 pts
The playerbase is dwindling as we speak.....changes had to be made with auras being one of them. Why do you need auras if they are going to fix the skills?
Auras are a major obstacle for people getting into the game. They take one look at the amount of power locked behind years of membership and just decide not to play
also you can just buy the dust, 20m for 25 hours is pretty nice
Oh wow that's fast! I got 22 points in a bit over an hour @ Vindicta & Gorvek. No shiny loot but the bones / hides covers the food/potions so am happy with it. Will do another task once Vamp aura's back up.
whats your setup? vindicta shouldnt be that slow lol
Truth be told I never even realized auras were around for awhile when they first came out, and I remember when I saw them in Xuans store, my reaction wasnt dejection; it was simply that it wasnt a system meant for me to play with, so I didnt :P Later on, when I had the points, Id already spent them in cosmetics, so by time I looked at them again I realized I didnt really need them.
If its a system where youre actively discouraged from playing with a mechanic... it simply wont happen. Them going into other places where they may be picked up and used is a good thing barring other workarounds to make them more usable and accessible.
The only aura that felt "necessary" persay was the thieving auras. And it's always a kick in the nuts to need this stupid thing that you have to wait months to get just so you dont get trashed by some random pickpocketing target.
Im so glad thats no longer the case with thieving and i can just leave the aura behind for the most part. At least, not needing it to get 100% thieving chance
sorry to be that guy but it's "per se" we losing auras today? gotta juice out another round of surefooted before it gets nuked
i have no idea lmao
i think its only combat? if it is coming out today
my friend got 1-103 thieving in 2 days just afk pickpocketing
I will miss penance aura, it never hurt anyone and made staying at a boss easier. I will also miss the desert pantheon extra 1500 lp
it's a minor nerf for 120ers but holy shit it's such a huge buff for everyone else
The skilling auras do deserve to be removed lol, I avoid croesus just so I don’t have to buy the auras
I haven't done Croesus yet, have missed all the #server-events that happen here for it 😅 (heck timezones) but did do 1 kill in leagues mode with a bunch of people - no one said they knew the fight when someone asked so think we were all stumbling through blind and it was awesome
What about aegis, i feel aegis should be incorporated into 120 def, at least for the time being since def isnt getting updated
But if def isn't being updated then how would they put it into the 120 for the time being 🙂
Thats what in saying add it to the update lol
aegis is pretty uninteresting, I'd rather they tie it into a defensive ability
There not being an equilibrium replacement is so dumb
so.......where is my compensation???
We're still not getting any for anything
And what are the replacements?
is it just me or has anyone else just lost their skilling auras as well as part of this?
just went to do a farm run and realized i don't have my legendaries anymore and instead i have a bunch of random auras I never bought
Known issue, they're working on a fix ^^ the auras still exist, the list simply isn't populating correctly
I've been posting this on almost every update so far this year...
Again a lot I paid for (ingame currency or irl money) has been removed. Again no compensation...
thanks!
Jagex owns all the little pixels, and can do with them as they see fit.
Dont need compensation. The conpensation is a better game with no auras. Auras had to go
Would it make sense for jagex to add equilibrium as a game setting toggle rather than an item/perk later? The idea is to trade off rng of crits for a flat, consistent damage buff. In many respects that is similar to legacy combat, but compatible with eoc.
That was my view also.
Thats cencorship
if you are going to call it censorship, please at least spell it correctly
those were comments an opinion re the removal of auras
you can repost those without the legal aspects of it
no its an opinion i can say what i want and it was ontopic
you absolutely have the freedom to say whatever you want so long as it is within our server's rules
not when you keep removing my messages
if you have an issue, take it to modmail
but as i said, keep the legal talk out of these threads
What rules were broken?
legal threats defeat the purpose of these feedback threads. jmods engage in these threads and they will just stop if people threaten to have "class action lawsuits"
so those comments are removed
That wasnt my comment
if you want to talk legal stuff, go talk to your lawyer, but keep them out of this server
you removed MY comment
i removed 3 people's comments
at any rate, if you have an issue, take it to modmail
the conversation about this ends now
this has momentum vibes
maybe that's a bad throwback lol

I don't want to derail this thread, I have seen positive ideas so I will stop but what your doing is wrong.
equilbrium perk slot to compete with biting makes most sense tbh
i agree with that
they are mutually exclusive, wouldn't be making perk choices any more difficult
yet that would entail finding a spot for it with components of which shouldnt be insanely difficult or expensive... and also gives the issue to devalue "BITE" - araxxors only sellingpoint
straitforward, funny, probably wrong solution
They added noxious weapons to masterwork range and mage weapons because reasons
put it on Noxious Components, so you either get more crit chance, or no crits at all! maybe set it up so it's like, at 1 Invention you always get No Crits and at 120 you always get More Crits so you can control it better
not a bad idea
i would probably stick it on rumbling comps since they have no armor perk
What do you mean they added nox weapons to masterwork range and mage like.. crit?
About how much crit
It is so annoying to have to drop your invention level. I would prefer not having to ever do that lol
Does RS3 have plans to set up a pole [Pass/Fail] system like OSRS?
You gave out one to remove TH Keys ... Yet still sell the same cosmetics in the store for a mad discount compared to the TH cost in keys & klling the GE price for the token.
If you want TH in the past wouldn't it be best to leave it there instead of flashing it on the front page every month in the shop?
Have to make money, I understand completely... But if you make new glowey wings or some other recolor of the same bird that no players have ... Isn't that like a bigger market to sell to while leaving TH in the past and not killing prices at tht GE?
I made a suggestion in the survey for a chair in the POH that drops your invention level. Lol
dropping invent for certain perks that are considered BiS is so dumb. just rebalance those like.. what 2?... perk creation chances to be higher at 120
I dIdn't realise that half of the aura overhaul and the combat overhaul were coming in the same update. My feedback was that the aura changes proposed were good, but to hold off on the combat aura removal until players had a better idea of the combat updates. AFter I'd made that post I found out last week that there'd already been a general combat beta beyond the ranged beta around Christmas time with several iterations. I didn't see this in any news post headlines until last week. Most were generic like patches/updates or talking about Havenhythe. By the time I got a chance to test the combat beta the launcher prevented my game client from loading and is still broken.
Can Jagex please just slow down a bit. We don't need the game to be overhauled overnight. Small iterative changes is all I've ever asked for. Don't get me wrong, the combat updates look awesome, I'm sure everyone's been working super hard on these updates, and for those involved in the changes and the beta, they'll know what's coming, but for other players who aren't combat enthusiasts, you've sprung this on that (larger) group of players without much warning. Something that affects every single player in the game needs multiple headlines and an in-game splash page on logon saying something like "MAJOR COMBAT UPDATES ARE COMING". Sigh.
I know some of you will have followed all of the news posts and tried out the combat beta thoroughly, but as someone who effectively works 50 hours a week, let me have my rant instead of asking me something akin to "have you been hiding under a rock" because for all intents and purposes I may as well have been. I was aware of the upcoming updates and aura removal set for spring (following from the listings of updates for march), but didn't expect this to be the literal 2nd day of Spring. I'm assuming the combat updated is classed as "remastered content update 1" for spring alongside this one? Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
This combat update was always classes as combat update. Not "remastered content" it was meant to be last week but they ran an extra beta week.
Nothing came as a surprise 🙂 it was all known a month before except exact details on abilities and damage numbers
Idk about the part where the larger community doesnt do pvm, we have a ton of pvmers lol skillers wouldnt make the mejority the change like this is the perfect way to force the change rather than progressively over a span of months or even a year.
I doubt that more than 50% of players participated in the beta. As much as some players say it's well known, I know a number of players who were as blindsided as I was, and others who knew about the beta but had no interest in participating in it. I'm probably more inclined from an achievements POV but don't have the time to commit to betas on top of limited gameplay time.
If they opt out of trying and giving feedback on something that has been plastered on the main page for what, a few months now? that's their loss
If they were not actively participating in PvM, the game now auto sets up your revo bar and every style is much more cohesive and easier to play before and does more damage for the most part
50%? I'd be super surprised if it was over 5%
Have you been living under a Rock?
There have been so many posts on the beta, and combat rework.
it was even mentioned multiple times on the launcher, for over a month
Oh but you said the majority of players dont pvm which tbh is not true, and like jif said, the beta was out for a while for people to try out, i get having limited time to play but if you choosed not to participate in an event that was created with the wholepurpose for you to try out and five feedback that one is on you
I joined briefly but my thoughts were something like "yes this feels fine" and saw others posting entire pages of notes going into incredible and nuanced detail so didn't really feel like I was the target of the beta and couldn't give any valuable feedback (which is fine)
Combat auras were disabled in beta, berserker style auras in particular disable all the way back in december beta iteration. The beta has ran for now two months, so sure not everyone has tried it out, but at some point it has to release. There had been news post about combat beta update at least once a week leading up to release for several weeks now.
IMO it was clearly best to do the combat auras with the combat update, so we didn't have extra power on top that we'll have to yoink away a month later. That would lead to massive outrage as people would get used to the new status quo of big power. Better to balance the combat experience and leveling benefit for no auras straight out of the gate.
Not doing combat auras alongside this update would cause far more issues than dealing with them.
Hiya Jagex mods! The idea of removing auras prompted me to want to surface an issue that honestly I think needs to be addressed regardless, which is resource depletion when WC. Often, I only get about 1-3 logs per Yew or Magic tree before it's cut down. This includes both naturally growing trees and those planted in a farming patch. This is one reason why so many 'Scapers liked the Resourceful aura. While those who've unlocked Invention and reached level 22 can add a Refined tool gizmo to their hatchet, I think some base changes to the chance of resource depletion would be very welcome.
Agreed, its annoying how frequently trees deplete
OSRS already fixed this, we should have trees be on a fixed timer
woodcutting and fletching needs the mining and smithing treatment
Here is the problem with all of these “fixes” when it comes to the game..
you fix one aspect but leave 5 more in a broken state. I think you need to fix everything else then worry about auras. You gotta distribute the different effects and make it fair for everyone. There is a lot of work into basically refreshing the whole game to fit this new narrative of “fair and balanced” game play for all players. Amazing work so far but yall basically need to remove everything down to the studs of the game then piece in the different things to make it the balanced game yall are seeking.
You don't want to leave a gap between the fixing the other things, and then doing aura later. because then auras on top will have established a new baseline.
Auras could have just been fixed with total removal instead of replacement. People just need to accept that they will need prayer pots and soul split to sustain their afk combat grinds or whatever.
Not a single aura is a bandaid for bad game stuff. People just say it is so thing becomes faster because they don't like skilling
Some of the auras like penance preceded the bad game stuff, hard to call them bandaids when they were there first. The no refunds on auras/refreshes, later deletion of loyalty points, and possible later deletion of marks of war is very upsetting.
Surefooted kind of a bandaid for some quest stuff, like underground pass. And combat auras where legitimately bandaids for accuracy
That said, penance does making afking combat a lot easier, so I understand if it has to go, but there should always be a refund. It’s the integrity thing to do.
penance is just the bandaid till you get bonetooth necklace and its variants, and we also have penance powder now as well
I think I had penance before dung came out
im sure youre right but my stance is that we do have the response to that aura being removed already implemented into the game
Something worse, at a much higher price
penance powder, yes it is straight up not as good, bonetooth necklace? ive never needed prayer pots while using it
And deletion without refund/loyalty point deletion is terrible. If they delete that then they could delete anything arbitrarily, and I doubt new players, old players, or any nonfanatics would like that.
youre not wrong, i would like some runecoins for the... millions loyalty points ive cranked out over the years
And it’s disturbing to see players argue against having rights lol
i think rights is the wrong word here, fairness? seems more accurate
You pay for something and someone comes along and deleted it
they could honestly combine a bunch of skills together in rs3 and make them elite skills. make forestry a skill instead of wcing, fm, and fletching being separate skills.
Aside from the zerker auras and the skilling auras, I think the problems came from elsewhere but are being scapegoated onto auras. If that is true, the problems may persist after sacrificing them.
Dungeoneering came out before auras
Yeah my memory isn’t too great
i dont feel personally like trying to make old skills turn into one elite skill is a good idea, however if we could get sailing (yes i am firmly on that boat ha ha) it could easily be an elite skill
With the removal of Equilibrium necro got nerfed, the skulls buff doesn't add up to the previous dmg output
☠️
Tbf the user does prove the point that jagex didnt clearly inform of the specific auras removal.
And i do agree that the homepage is very bulky in the posts, hard to really find the critical info and more overflooding with stuff that needs a separate in-depth post
Just because people don't read posts doesn't mean they didn't say what was happening
well you see if you separate a few auras from the total aura overhaul the info is not provided clearly
imma be honest the way they dont use polls or similar system to actually get all players attention of upcoming changes feels backwards
Pretty sure we heard about it alot earlier but the first mention i see in the news posts was on the 4th beta update on feb 18th. where they gave us the whole list of what's being removed in the combat update 🤷♂️ .
And with how many people don't read updates i'm glad theres no voting. They'd just randomly click an option not knowing what they're voting on.
well theres a clarification case, i didnt notice the aura portion in the beta post either untill someone pointed it out ingame sunday just before release. it was thrown in middle of a post of slight changes to a bunch of beta abilities ? fraction of the base can notice changes by not playing it
so simply put people scroll by it naturally to click start client bootup link
Thanks for confirming it's just people not reading and not the lack of communication about it. Let's stop the arguing now 🙂
arguing?, so the issue is not hiding a core factor in middle of a post referring itself to beta 4 info presuming people its also not in their area of understanding so skips it? simply put it was poorly made and @snow hemlock does have a point
There has been some talk here about moving the lp boost over to an item or a place like the oo'log spa. Hopefully the devs notice and come up with something. I think we could just leave the aura item itself but make it not equipable.
Would be nice. I earned it doing shifting tombs. Which reminds me, I did not approve void being nerfed so hard
Idk if someone has asked this already but since it was removed the mahjarrat aura I bought mine with bonds early on since I didn’t have the reaper point. Will we get refunded or has Jagex/JMods said anything about that? 🤔
Doubtful
Nothing was said. Very unlikely to happen
just a sincere question: Isn't that stealing?
Nope
nope- you used money to buy a skip the line pass on majahrrat. no different than if you bought bonds to buy an ezk and they nerf the hell out of it the following week.
That analogy is flawed, as something being nerfed but present is not the same as being removed outright.
Sometimes I think it’s just to salt the wound
Overall, Jagex is going to likely have to reconceptualise many things throughout the game, the Mahjarrat aura is going to go, and those who paid for it will be annoyed over that too, but that does not change the fact that they were afforded a temporary benefit during the time of its existence, and if they did not use it, that does not change the fact that they paid for the opportunity to. There is no contract made other than for the purchase of that item, which did not stipulate its duration. So I don't think Jagex has a legal duty to refund players, but players will likely consider it a moral obligation to give them something, albeit I doubt Jagex would or should do so (as doing so will set a precedent that's difficult to upkeep in future interactions, if you did it for Mahjarrat why can't you do it for other auras, etc).
Still bad for business creates a distrust from consumer for future purchase
yeah it’s terrible
I have a member in my clan who doesn’t follow the game’s news, like most casual players. He bought the Mahjarrat aura last Saturday with bonds, only to have it removed on Monday. I still don’t understand why Jagex didn’t prevent the purchase if they were going to remove it permanently and without a refund. I don’t know if it’s incompetence or a real attempt to squeeze as much money as possible before the end.
It’s frustrating to see this person quit the game after feeling scammed. How many other players who don’t follow the news have experienced the same thing and might end up leaving? We’re only at the beginning of the year, and there are already so many changes affecting content that some players have spent a lot of time and money on.
Like their cosmetic store who to say they not going to go we didnt like that design so we gunna scrap it
Should they have disabled purchasing when they decided to remove it? yeah probably. Is it still that persons own fault that they have not been paying attention to any news at all?. 100%
Casual players don’t read every piece of news about the game, and they shouldn’t have to in order to avoid being punished for it. If an item is about to be permanently removed, the responsibility is on Jagex to disable the purchase or clearly warn players in-game. Expecting every player to follow external news just to avoid losing something they just bought isn’t realistic. When someone can buy an item normally and it gets removed two days later without compensation, it’s understandable why people would feel misled.
As i said. Yea they should have disabled the purchasing of an expensive aura like mahj. But at the same time if people don't read any news then it's their fault for not knowing something is about to be removed.
especially if the news is at the front page of the launcher
"thank you for supporting the game over the years now get lost while we attract new players" - Jagex
thats what this removal without any compensation reads like. will they see this very unlikely will they compensate after the fact absolutely not.
^
they didn't event address the reason they removed most of the auras some are still in the game and still time gated this whole update was a sham to pull something under the guise of restoration
They already lost my business
Your compensation is a better game. You got to benefit from the auras for years to.
I can’t imagine it looks good to new players to see stuff deleted without refund and people cheering it on. Discredits the “Integrity” marketing.
if he bought the bonds with irl money and he is state side he might be able to file a complaint with the consumer financial protection thing
what integrity this is jagex 2026
Jagex has more integrity now than in the past 10 years
There’s no integrity in any of this xD. They’re trying to please people who already quit, while replacing those who stayed, hoping that enough of them will come back.
If they really wanted to be transparent, they would have prevented the purchases or issued refunds (maybe not for everyone, but at least for those who bought the item during a certain period).
It really gives the impression that they’re just trying to squeeze as much money as possible.
Integrity is the quality of being honest, having strong moral principles, and maintaining consistency between actions and values, often defined as doing the right thing even when no one is watching.( I have not seen that with anything they have done past or present)
removing some auras while claiming they dont like the time-gated nature of them altogether while leaving others in that are time gated in the exact same way as ones they removed is 100% dishonest in every way. the no compensation is another blow
They haven't removed the rest because they don't have the replacements ready for those they plan on having a replacement for
Daily suggestion to read blog posts to get a pretty good idea the reasoning as to why they are removing stuff, when they are, what they are offering to give replacements for some stuff being removed.
the blog post that is not up yet you mean?
Don't think i've seen you say anything that hasn't been explained in atleast 1 blog already 🙂
Well you see, they posted a blog post that outlined the reasoning as to why auras are bad. That blog post also gave some info on what was going, what was staying in effects, possible replacements, etc. It seems, more times than not, people dont read these blogs or hyperfixate on a single issue rather than looking at the problems of auras as a whole
Are said replacements going strait to my bank?
When I said that casual players don’t follow the news, this is a good example of why Jagex should have disabled the purchases. 🙃
I mean I agree but thats also a player issue
But with that kind of mindset, the player who feels wronged doesn’t come back, and that’s one more player we lose for the small number of people we might have managed to bring to the game.
that one i read and the only written stuff on that about compensation is they are currently working on it in the future which means nothing im currently working on the cure for cancer as i have thought about it now and then in passing does that mean i get big funding to have that though?
Ofcourse not. You'll have to earn/make/buy them
thats not the definition of compensation lmao
Good thing i didn't say it was?
Thats why i wont be coming back they lost trust of thus consumer i cant trust my purchase to be secure
Bye
I like how its always same people who defend every action jagex makes lol
Yall. I have said it multiple times now. Keep the legal talk out of this thread
Not going to repeat myself another time
Censorship lol
I personally hope that they remove auras, give no replacements, and fix core gameplay issues instead
At least you can spell that word correctly
Genuine question, is this not a private discord server?
Yeah. No. Not having that misinformation being posted (in regards to the message that was deleted)
Removing auras = better game, very excited and happy these changes are being made
could you at least address that then? even in a diffrent chanel?
No.
i see lmao
if there is any compensation for mahjarrat it'd need to be very thought out. either as another item or rune coins.
if its bonds, they will tank even more than they already have.
same for hydrix items if they give back reaper points.
They could probably just make it a variant on the glowing eyes aura, which adds a gem pattern to the player's forehead
They're not giving anything back, even the blog thats supposed to be put out today at the latest isnt even up and its almost end of day 3pm at this time
Dosent matter consumer trust is lost from how they handled
theyve gained way more trust by removing auras and nuking premier than they could have ever lost
like 90% of the blogs have been going on like 2-3 hours from now
Agreed. I trust them more now than the past 10 years of auras and th
No but its still a loss they coulda cover it better lol
I’m leaning more toward RuneCoins. It’s what would harm the economy the least, and it would also show that they weren’t trying to squeeze money out of players right up until the very last day.
Let's get back on just leaving aura feedback here instead of just turning it into a "hate on everything jagex does" thread
Why they gone so whats there to discuss about auras
that was my thought exactly - itd basically give anyone 1 free cosmetic outfit they could bank until something they really want comes out
They're just guna ramble on about "muh compensation"
im fence sitting compensation - obviously people have already gotten huge boons from the aura in game and have earned well over the cost of getting it to begin with
Where did i say anything about compensation
Not to mention they already said we are getting stuff to replace the most used auras
- stuff will be introduced to the game with similar effect. We won't just "get them".
( just incase people will think they'll find the replacements in their bank on release).
Atleast it's the most reasonable thing to assume we'll have to obtain the replacements in some way
One of the reasons they gave for removing auras is that they dont fit into game progression at all. They're not earned. I'd say it's fair to make people earn the replacements
Dont matter what they do i cant trust making any purchases i know many others feel same
Yea, youve said this like 10 times. We get it.
We get it. You dont like it. Move on.
Na
Was just bout to ping you saint
Moving on
Just time em out at this point
Damg, deleted too fast. Sadge lol
it depends on where the replacement effects ends up, like for example if they end up on basic god books for penance, then you would likely just have it in your bank if you have done the quest (or easily reclaimable). If they make up whole new items for them to be on, then you would have to reobtain them.
but i hope they did go with summoning for a lot of the replacements, i like that idea. Also hope they drop this new blog here soon, bored out of my mind.
well, i started a new hardcore, i needed auras, i spent 40 bonds of irl money on 2 premiers. as that's the only way i know how to make them stack, i'm still yet to use an aura, but i had them from a month's time at croesus or something. but now i don't get that and i'm still down the monet
"Any players who spent bonds to acquire an aura in the last 3 months (after 1st December 2025) will have those bonds automatically returned to their accounts when the aura overhaul goes live.
Additionally, any players who purchased the Mahjarrat Aura using Reaper points in the past 90 days (since 3rd December 2025) will have those points returned to them, though the timing on this still needs to be finalized."
nice
