#Sign of the Porter I: Replace Sapphire Necklace with Lapis Lazuli Ring as Input

Right now, Porters I and II both require a Sapphire Necklace as input; this makes Porter I not worth using because the input cost is so high relative to the low XP cost to get to Porter II and its double charges.

In order to both make Porter I more worth crafting as well as giving low-level/FTP players a sense of value (ie. appreciate divination as one of many reasons to upgrade), I propose replacing Sapphire Necklace with Lapis Lazuli Ring. Why that specific item? Because it is the only low-level silver jewelry available to FTP players (Opal and Jade jewelry cannot be crafted by them.)

Reminder: Lapis Lazuli is mined in vast quantities from common gem nodes (eg in the Burnthorpe mining cave). In one minute's worth of mining, your backpack will have generous amounts of Lapis Lazuili after one minute of mining. This makes it readily accessible to low-level and FTP players before they reach gem-dropping mobs for higher-level Porters.

maybe add an alternative recipe but lapis lazuli are a massive pita to obtain relative to sapphires

teal halo

They are prob the most common gem next to opals. If you try to mine the common gem rock in Burnthrope, your backpack will be at least 25% lapis lazuli

Opals are literally the easiest gem to harvest. Both Lapis and Opals are found in common gem rocks in Burhtrope requing L1 mining

subtle bluff
#

how easy they are to intentionally obtain is neither here nor there - gems generally are passively acquired doing other content with limited exceptions

#

lapis lazuli is one of those, which, because it requires specific actions to obtain, is a PITA to get

teal halo
#

When you say exceptions, do you mean like... getting input materials for divination? Because that's no different than mining to smith. It's also no different than getting sapphires, except that they're quicker/easier to get in bulk and they're accessible to low level/FTP players. IIRC smithing gold jewelry is like L40, whereas it is considerably lower for silver

subtle bluff
#

I mean that playing the game as a whole you will get thousands of sapphires and precisely zero lapis lazuli without either mining common gem rocks or using a dwarven army axe

#

btw I am absolutely not saying that a use should not be given to lapis lazuli, either as a new porter or a second recipe for the existing porter

#

I am just saying that it should augment, rather than replace, current sapphire porters

teal halo
#

You don't need a dwarven army axe to make a ring of luck

#

You're probably thinking of the brooch; you can chisel a lapis lazuli directly and incorporate it into a ring at L1 crafting

#

no army axe required

subtle bluff
#

sure but the DAA is an alternative source of lapis lazuli

#

as I say - this isn't really about lapis lazuli - why does your suggestion necessitate removing that functionality from sapphire necklaces?

teal halo
#

TheDAA requires an entire quest line to get, it is useless after introduction of the toolbelt. by contrast, you can have a backpack full of gems and seveal lapis lazuli within 5 mins of logging into the game

#

I didn't say anything about removing functionality

subtle bluff
#

"I propose replacing Sapphire Necklace with Lapis Lazuli Ring"

#

this is all I object to

teal halo
#

I was strictly speaking in context of making Porter Is

subtle bluff
#

keep the sapphire necklace recipe

#

also add a lapis lazuli ring recipe

teal halo
#

That already exists, it's called Ring of Luck

#

Porter IIs take sapphire necklaces as inputs, and it should stay that way. I was suggesting that Porter Is take in a lower level input to match the lower level divination + make it accessible to FTP (which already have capped divination level anway)

subtle bluff
#

so what I am proposing

#

I have looked up the recipe

#

RN porter 1 is made with 30 pale energy + sapphire necklace. I am proposing that porter 1 is 30 pale energy + sapphire necklace OR lapis lazuli ring

teal halo
#

I mean, you could do that. There is literally a ~40 skill level difference between the two, but sure

subtle bluff
#

aye

teal halo
#

Personally I'd rather make the Lapis Lazuli Ring (pre-enchanted Ring of Luck) within 5 mins of rolling a new account

subtle bluff
#

sure - and I think it's a good option to have

#

I just think most accounts will obtain <1 inventory of lapis lazuli ever just because mining common gem rocks is typically a total waste of time

#

(idk if that's the case in f2p)

teal halo
#

Those gems are valuable for L1/L2 enchanted jewelry and making enchanted crossbow bolts

subtle bluff
#

and I'd rather have a situation where weird niche accounts can use pale energy on porters in addition to other weird niche accounts making porters with lapis lazuli 😄 😄 😄

teal halo
#

They are absolutely worth harvesting

Porter I is unlocked at 6 div. Porter II is unlocked at 28.
Lapis ring is unlocked at 11 crafting. Sapphire necklace at 22.
Silver mining is unlocked at 20 mining. Gold is unlocked at 40.

I have to agree with OP, the recipe requirements do not make sense. I think more is gained by making the switch than is lost. Unless you're making gathering alts to farm resources and want to dump in materials to make porters from your main, which is not gameplay that should be designed around (imo), this would be an entirely positive change.

I literally could not tell you the last time I went and mined a gem rock

OSRS gem rocks give the semi-precious stones

From Opal up to Diamond

i would like to see uses for lapis expanded personally but in its current state it would be a pain to obtain
