Suggestion: Optional Account Split for OSRS and RS3 Progress

I’d like to suggest an optional feature that I believe would be very meaningful for many long-time RuneScape players.

For players who have both OSRS and RS3 progress on the same account, it would be great to have the option to split that account into two separate ones:

One account retaining all OSRS progress

One account retaining all RS3 progress

Both resulting accounts would require their own memberships, which I imagine many veteran players would be very willing to pay for.

When OSRS originally launched around 13 years ago, many players naturally continued using their existing accounts. At the time, it was hard to predict just how much both games would evolve. Since then, OSRS and RS3 have changed dramatically and grown into very different experiences.

Today, sharing a single account means you can’t enjoy both games at the same time without sacrificing progress — and not everyone has the time or availability to start over from scratch just to experience both versions of the game.

This would be a purely optional feature, aimed at veteran players who want to fully engage with both OSRS and RS3. It wouldn’t disrupt the current experience for anyone else, but it could add significant value and flexibility for those who’ve invested heavily in both games over the years

this is just a silly way to fix not being able to login on both games

My understanding is that the technical reason for not being able to log into both games simultaneously, is that it is a single profile file that can only be accessed by a single game/server at a time, to prevent data confusion/corruption and all that fun stuff. I think that the idea of 'cloning' an account, then disabling half of each (so each one has one game profile) would work - although the second account would then need its own unique character name.

My only question is...what would happen to the disabled game's profile on the file that belongs to the other game? Would this profile be banned from the second game? Or would they be able to restart the game (generate a fresh character) on the same profile, and potentially have the option to split again in the future? From a technical point of view, it might be simpler to just wipe the data to save space, then it's just a question of whether or not to set a flag saying "this account can no longer play this game" or...not... and allow players to get what I understand is a long-requested account reset feature. (Not saying it was a popular request, but I know there have been players wanting the reset for a long time).

As far as "losing" (track of by the player) an account - given that we now have the Jagex accounts, which associates multiple characters under a single login, I don't think that would be an issue - players would simply see an extra character to log into.
