No.

hallow pilot
# hallow pilot No.

Would you like to elaborate other than a "No"? Would be more productive to add your take, and provide a valid argument as to why you think this isn't a good approach moving forward.

torpid wraith
#

there's a fair few suggestions like this already

hallow pilot
#

I'll let the votes speak to you

torpid wraith
#

i'l give ya a rundown on why it's not a smart plan

#
  • splitting the community is a bad
  • the new servers would effectively only give a false sense of 'fair competition' since new players would still not even get rates close to veterans on new alts
  • it'd require changes to a bunch of systems, not least of which the grand exchange
  • it basically affects nothing, other than multiplayer content having an even smaller pool, every other aspect it's a temporary solution at best
hallow pilot
#

You misunderstood then. I am not suggesting splitting the servers.

torpid wraith
#

it's basically what it comes down to

#

because wiping existing player progess, would functionally kill the game for around 80% of players

#

probably more

#

and a cosmetic, ain't gonna cut it for compensation

hallow pilot
#

I am suggesting wiping every acc, then those who have had previous achievements such as a 99 or have maxed, get certain momentums added to there fresh wiped acc to show off that they previously achieved these achievements. Why would a new player be motivated to get a 99, lets say wcing, when it could have took a previous person 30 minutes to get it with Treasure Hunter? The game would lack any new players from being truely motivated to achieve these things.

torpid wraith
#

if a new player's motivation to play comes from competing with exisiting players having done so legitimately, they're playing for the wrong reasons and won't last long either way

green wolf
#

Lol no, what is this suggestion.

hallow pilot
#

Competing with other players is a huge part of an MMORPG, that is why high scores even exist in the first place.

torpid wraith
#

and they can, if and when new stuff comes out with one

#

the existing ones basically died the day they added mtx

#

a wipe will harm the playerbase beyond repair

#

because if you can't expect your progress to be permanent

#

most people won't bother

hallow pilot
#

So if you are admitting it died the day it had MTX added, why are you so opposed to wiping it, giving fresh life into a once dead game? A phoenix is raised from its ashes, Runescape can do the same.

torpid wraith
#

there are plenty of highscoring systems in the game that mtx had little to no impact on, such as boss kills

#

if people want to compete, those are valid and available

hallow pilot
#

Boss kills earned with gear and levels from MTX? I still don't see how that is fair.

torpid wraith
#

not sure if you're doing a bad faith argument here, but even the highest tier of gear that offered, was lvl 80

#

beyond buying gold for whatever is best in slot

#

all of which, one could actually earn through play

#

yes the path to it can be skipped

#

but the end stop for power is the same

#

and i'm saying that as perhaps one of the most vocal mtx haters on this server

#

now, what they could do, is another fresh start world but without all the boosts.
and track those highscores on their own

#

and after 6 - 12 months merge that into the main game

#

while keeping those highscores from that period as a permanent record
but that's basically vanilla leagues

hallow pilot
#

The issue is that MTX already destroyed the idea of permanent, comparable progression. A 99 gained in 30 minutes via TH and one earned traditionally aren’t the same achievement, yet they sit side by side forever.

Saying a wipe would kill trust ignores the fact that trust was broken the moment progression stopped being equal. What we have now is permanent imbalance, not permanence with integrity.

Boss highscores aren’t immune either—MTX accelerated access to levels, gold, and attempts. Time is the real competitive resource, and MTX absolutely skewed that.

Highscores exist because competition matters. Telling new players they shouldn’t care about that is basically admitting the system no longer serves them.

torpid wraith
#

i've been saying that they haven't served a purpose anymore for nearly 14 years now

#

so yes

#

they're basically a glorified stat tracker for minigames / boss kills

ruby jewel
#

....high scores were filled in like... 2 years before squel was a thing

#

if you want to play RS3 because High Scores... there's Ironman modes?

#

otherwise you've been out of luck for more than a decade

green wolf
#

So screw all irons? We dont get mtx. You want them to get screwed cuz you cant catch up to the mainscape leaderboard

hallow pilot
# ruby jewel otherwise you've been out of luck for more than a decade

Ironman isn’t immune here either. The roadmap is actively nerfing or removing methods that existing Ironmen already benefited from, which means new Ironmen are now climbing a steeper hill than the ones ahead of them. That recreates the exact same fairness problem people are dismissing in the main game.

green wolf
#

This would kill thr game from all the people who would quit after all their hard work gets pooped on

hallow pilot
#

Ironman was supposed to be the “integrity mode,” but if older Ironmen progressed under systems that no longer exist, then even Ironman highscores stop being meaningfully comparable over time.

green wolf
#

The amount of downvotes this post gunna get gunna be great. No need even discussing this

hallow pilot
#

Player retention is what Jagex needs to survive.
Letting the player base know you will wipe their progress, no matter how it was obtained, will make new players LESS likely to keep playing.

hallow pollen
#

the embargo has existed since... div? theres little to no reason why people currently cannot compete. even without dxp

#

to tie in, creating a discriminatory restarting of the accs would only impact the entire game and squash content for upwards of a year minimum before people can start doing current day content. and I mean the average higher lvl skiller. not even the efficient players.

what this does for everyone else is put everyone back on a max in 5 years time period.

#

instead of culling the playerbase. its better to just let be imo.

hallow pilot
#

I could equate this entire suggestion to burning libraries and making everyone poor, because some people didn't get to live through the golden age.

#

Player retention depends on new players believing their effort will matter long-term. Right now, they’re told the most meaningful ladders were decided years ago under systems that no longer exist, and that they should just ignore them. That’s not retention—that’s resignation.

Competing only when new skills drop or during embargo windows is temporary relevance, not a healthy competitive ecosystem. Once that window closes, the same permanent gap returns.

And this isn’t “burning libraries.” Burning libraries destroys knowledge; this is rebuilding a ladder whose rungs were warped by MTX and removed methods. Preserving distorted progress forever doesn’t protect the game—it locks in a problem and asks new players to accept it.

ruby jewel
#

...high scores are not "the most meaningful ladders" and they were decided years before the systems that no longer exist

hallow pilot
#

Whether highscores are “the most meaningful” is subjective, but they are the only persistent, public measure of progression the game exposes. If they weren’t meaningful, they wouldn’t be tracked, archived, or referenced at all.

#

I'll put it in my CV:
Achieved top 1k position in slayer in Runescape.

ruby jewel
#

high scores are tracked because they are cool

#

but like... if you want high scores

hallow pilot
#

I care as much about the high scores as I care about world speedruns. Don't care.

ruby jewel
#

leagues 2 is happening later this year

#

so there's that

#

but main game high scores only matter when new skills are released

hallow pollen
#

yeah tbh leaderboards mean nothing unless you are triple digits in some of the skills

ruby jewel
#

and there isn't a new skill happening before the roadmap is done

#

so, if high scores are what you care about

#

you've got leagues 2, cgim, and whenever the next skill happens

#

Runescape is never going to reset itself

#

for a lot of reasons

hallow pilot
#

I currently play on CGIM, and a main goal for me in RS3 is to max my CGIM account. That’s exactly why this matters to me. CGIM, leagues, or waiting years for a new skill aren’t substitutes for a healthy core progression system—they’re temporary or isolated experiences.

If the answer to broken or invalid ladders is “go play a limited mode” or “wait for the next skill,” that’s admitting the main game can’t sustain long-term motivation on its own. New players don’t stick around because they’re told to wait for the next reset opportunity—they stay when their day-to-day progress feels meaningful and comparable.

#

Meaningful and comparable... rather than fun and enjoyable

#

Games can be fun and meaningful—pretending it’s a tradeoff is just dodging the issue.

ruby jewel
#

so what, do another reset?/

hallow pilot
#

I'm completely against this communist socialism mindset you're proposing to put everyone back at square one.

ruby jewel
#

and then Runescape loses the thing where I've been playing the same account for nearly fifteen years

#

and because I don't play maximally efficiently, I'm not maxed yet lol

hallow pilot
#

You're not touching the entire existing playerbase because YOU feel some high horse injustice to new players to be

hallow pilot
ruby jewel
#

but that's fine, because every bit of progress I make matters

ruby jewel
#

it's an MMO

hallow pilot
#

The biggest issue is many of these high scores were obtained with MTX and broken systems.

ruby jewel
#

do we need to reset the game every time anything gets nerfed now?

hallow pilot
#

Minor nerfs don’t break the ladder. Removing systems that defined it for years does. That’s why this isn’t just “another nerf.”

ruby jewel
#

ah yes... AG drops getting slashed to a fifth was a "minor nerf"

hallow pollen
#

your answer is to do a full sweep of legit and what you find illegitimate

#

even current day systems allows for legit placement. the embargo on new skills

#

you cannot mtx that away

hallow pilot
#

You killed 4k chompy birds without enhancers to get your trim cape? Cool, we're resetting your progress because whales bought our lamps and someone found that unfair so fuck you.

#

Hope you're prepared to do that all over again, good luck

ruby jewel
#

as I mentioned earlier, yeah, the high scores had been filled before any MTX happened to begin with

#

sooooo

#

like, the whole premise of the OP is just, actively incorrect?

hallow pilot
#

I completely understand and respect the achievements people earned under the systems that existed at the time. Those trims, capes, and highscores represent a huge amount of dedication, and no one is suggesting taking that away without acknowledgment.

My suggestion isn’t set in stone—it’s just one idea for how to make progression more meaningful for new players while still honoring the efforts of veterans. There are plenty of ways it could be tweaked.

hallow pollen
#

for me, making the games content dead for upwards of a year to implement something like this would be a disservice to rs and its players.

the best thing you can do in this manner is a prestige system at most. where its fully voluntary and not a wipe that stops most of the game from functioning.

hallow pilot
#

I also think a prestige system is a great idea and would love to see it explored further. This forum was created to get the conversation started, spark ideas, and highlight that while gutting MTX and cleaning up the game are fantastic steps, they aren’t the complete solution. More needs to be done after this cleanup to ensure the game feels fair and rewarding for both new and existing players.

torpid wraith
#

yea so, there's about 12 suggestions for prestige

ruby jewel
#

...a reset is deeply not the starting point lol

torpid wraith
#

and a few years of back and forth with jmods and survey results

#

they announced having plans to do em, and it wasn't received well at all

#

in part, for the reasons mentioned earlier

#

another, being the fact that they fundamentally had no place, while xp / bxp was purchaseable

astral carbon
#

Game wipe = permanent quit for me. I don't care about prestige off a video game unless it boosts my irl income.

And if I decided I want to keep gaming? There's something new to try on STEAM.

hallow pilot
#

Updated my post to clarify that the proposal now includes two options—either a full reset with legacy recognition or a prestige system—so both new player fairness and veteran achievements can be honored.

#

I enjoy everyone’s take thus far, and I want to clarify something. My posting of this was not to create discourse, but rather bring us together to find a solution together, as many of the player base have noticed the 2026 Roadmap is great, but it doesn’t fully address the long-term fairness and motivation for new players, while still honoring the veteran players.

shrewd pasture
#

Just want to let you know that any kind of reset / prestige would do nothing for new players to compete

sinful walrus
#

absolutely not. a game wipe would kill the game permanently for me. not only due to the fact that i have had my main in excess of 15 years so far, but also due to the fact that during those 15 years the majority has been spent as a member. it would amount to a pointless expenditure in just membership fees and time. i'm somewhat of a casual player and while i haven't always been around during i don't want to give up on account that has this history for me

fathom drum
#

Leagues already provides the fresh start experience and competitive element

shrewd pasture
#

Theres no way a new player will have any change of competing ever against vets

fathom drum
#

there is no need to wipe main server progress or even encourage prestiging

astral carbon
#

Why would a new player care about fairness? They would be occupied by all the quests. Why is this even a competition?

oak storm
#

Iv'e played RuneScape for over 20 years put a lot of work into my account. And to see it reset or even prestige my stats where i would still need to start from lvl 3 would just be the end of the road for me. There is many other ways you can fix this with out reset. it would just take a while to see any change. removal of MTX is still very raw in the future there could be a possibility of new skills. Max xp cap extended etc..

fathom drum
#

As for the early/midgame economy, those things will course correct if new players come in naturally

#

Complete slap in the face to everyone who has stuck it out with this game all these years through thick and thin

hallow pilot
#

The goal isn’t to punish veterans or erase history—it’s to give new players a chance to engage with meaningful competition. Leagues and fresh-start modes are temporary and optional, but the main game’s ladders are permanently skewed by past advantages. A reset, prestige, or recognition system wouldn’t let new players outrank veterans instantly—it would just make future progress feel fair and motivating.

fathom drum
#

The game intrinsically rewards you for progressing through it

#

Why do new players need to "compete" with vets?

ruby jewel
hallow pilot
ruby jewel
#

the ladders were finished before any of the systems that have been removed

astral carbon
#

I wasn't around for Amascut release. I won't compete with someone who has 10,000 kills. But that doesn't bother me. I'll get my 100 minimum and the log and that's all I'd care for should I have time. There's nothing unfair about it. We all choose where we want to use our time in. I had lots of overtime work that helped people in real life so that took more priority than progression on a video game.

fathom drum
#

As above, a big chunk of the playerbase was already maxed before SoF/EoC came out

#

and before OSRS came out

#

The legacy for this game goes extremely far back

hallow pollen
#

but your point stands. a good chunk still pulled it off

sinful walrus
#

a reset would absolutely kill the game for many casual long term players

fathom drum
#

Yeah, I don't know what the exact number was but RS2 was already moving in an endgame-heavy direction

ruby jewel
fathom drum
#

It is fundamentally different from OSRS where grandmaster quest requirements stop at 70 even today

hallow pollen
#

well yes. not quite arguing against that

hallow pilot
fathom drum
#

Long before EoC, 94 herb/95 pray/99 summ were basically requirements along with the effigyscape era that got people maxing like crazy

hallow pollen
fathom drum
#

The game has not been in a state where people fought for highscores meaningfully for a long time

shrewd pasture
#

Because they don't know shit about the game

fathom drum
#

It is not a good thing to bring that back just for the sake of it

hallow pollen
shrewd pasture
#

Vets will destroy their dreams faster then they can blink

hallow pollen
#

wiki doesnt actually give a number either

#

aprox 2021 it was still roughly 10k players

#

per jmods

#

is it easy to say that there are prob 30k + since? yes. but we have nothing to support that guestimation

hallow pilot
#

If you go to PlayerBase.com, according to some 3rd‑party tracking sources, as of January 2024, RS3 had around 115,238 maxed players. It is an estimate.

hallow pollen
#

fyi the active playerbase was higher than 190k

#

thats a 3rd party with innacurate sources

#

I can pull a literal highscores that says we were 200k + all year

hallow pilot
#

Well you stating 75% of player being maxed is okay, but me utilizing the closest stat we have based on 3rd party trackers because Jagex doesn't actually track this information is wrong? That makes no sense.

hallow pollen
#

no

#

I said 75% or more has been post sof

#

as in the numbers of players who have obtained maxed has been after the release of sof eoc etc

hallow pilot
#

That is just horribly wrong. You genuinly believe 75% or more of the player base was maxed post sof?

hallow pollen
#

why would it be wrong?

#

are you saying only 1250 players are 200m all only after sof release?

#

are you saying that 115k players are pre sof?

ruby jewel
#

ok, pretty sure you two have been talking past each other for a bit

#

Barcode is thinking you are saying 75% of the playerbase as a whole is maxed

hallow pollen
#

💀

#

surely not

ruby jewel
#

and Hawk Anomaly is saying 75% of the maxed players maxed after SoF

#

which frankly

#

doesn't matter

#

because the high scores were filled by that first 25%

#

because I remember the release of SoF

#

and some people complaining about the high scores

#

and so I looked at the high scores

hallow pollen
#

what do you define as filled? like in your perspective?

#

I dont find it filled personally. just curious what your take is on that

ruby jewel
#

and you needed 99 to get to the five digits

#

the high scores were filled

#

if you care about the high scores in a game that's been out for a decade and has a defined "this is the most you can get"... I'm sorry, you're late

#

and Runescape has been out for 25 years now

#

You Are Late

#

end of

#

if Leagues and Cgim and the occasional new skill doesn't feed your hunger for the high scores

#

and the high scores is the only reason you have to play

#

this game is too old for you

astral carbon
#

I've always like highscores that can be broken in a session. Like a track time or enemies killed in a playthrough. Skill based highscores.

But Xp based highscores, there's no way you can ever catch up. They are time based and just a test of losing your sleep over a video game.

random estuary
#

highscores should have a legacy highscores & have the xp cap removed for normal highscores

shrewd pasture
#

No

random estuary
#

makes no sense that the highscores is a race to 200m rather than grind the skill u enjoy

shrewd pasture
#

We're a 25year old game. Theres no reason a new player should be able to become rank 1

random estuary
#

thats toxic.

shrewd pasture
#

It's life

random estuary
#

nah its just toxic

#

that mindset is why this game has been slow bleeding into ~15k players

ruby jewel
#

flatly, the rank 1 was decided like, 15+ years ago

random estuary
#

and will continue to do so

ruby jewel
#

and if you want to delete 25 years of peopel doing things, that will actually kill the game

random estuary
#

rank #1 is literally just wait for a new skill, rush to 200m, retake rank 1. it has 0 challenge aspect to it

shrewd pasture
#

If i'm wrong i'll accept my defeat. But have they ever reset the highscores?

ruby jewel
#

nope

#

anyway

shrewd pasture
#

Sure they aren't as old as rs3 but highscores are far from the reaosn rs3 is having playerbase issues

ruby jewel
#

if you really desperately NEEEEEEEED highscores

#

Plugin support is happening

random estuary
ruby jewel
#

use your own database to make yearly high scores and have fun with that

shrewd pasture
#

While you're trying to make it sound like the highscores not resetting is killing rs3

random estuary
#

so no relevance between that question and what i originally said, gotcha

#

no point in asking it then

#

L?

#

sitting here yapping straw mans all day is the least fruitful thing u could do

random estuary
#

consistently making updates that only cater to existing players will never bring in fresh long term players

#

never has never will

#

declining ~15k playerbase speaks for itself

shrewd pasture
#

If you truly believe that highscores are the reason for the lower playerbase then i don't have anything else to say i guess

random estuary
#

...?

#

ive yet to see anyone in this discord not type in false equivalence or straw mans ngl

ruby jewel
#

if you think high scores are A reason you're trolling

#

frankly

random estuary
#

not sure why ur clinging to something ur rank #334932525 in

ruby jewel
#

they could delete the high scores and no one would actually care

ruby jewel
random estuary
#

literally nobody said that

green wolf
#

And ive yet to see this discord care to have a prestige system but yall kerp posting it as a suggestion to get downvoted to the max

cinder swan
#

Every new player since the beginning of the game starts behind every player that started before them so you are doing nothing for new players and there are still many players who got their 99's the hardest way before mxt. I say no to dividing the community more by singling out ppl for how or when they got their 99's or 120's

random estuary
ruby jewel
random estuary
#

its called feedback

#

u should try it sometime

ruby jewel
#

and you know what

#

bye

random estuary
#

so then propose feedback that has mutual benefit to the post & ur individual needs?

#

rather than just screeching no

#

wild

#

having a legacy highscores & removing xp cap to allow progress to current highscores is literally a mutual ground

cinder swan
#

I never look at HS anymore people quit the leaders change. I myself have 200m mining and never mine anymore but yet somehow I've risen in the HS the last time I checked many years ago. My guess is bot bans. the HS mean very little.

random estuary
cinder swan
#

but you can still move up or down

random estuary
#

so obv a reset or a removal of the cap would be beneficial

#

thats like

#

the whole concept

#

'its irrelevant so fix it so its not'

#

obv its irrelevant thats y bro made the post

#

like ??

cinder swan
#

I just disagree with the main perpose of this suggestion of having some way to show when you got your 99's after mxt or before and all that. I just cought the part about the HS and added my thought about it

fathom drum
#

I mean I maxed before SoF but it's w/e

#

the game hasn't been about maxing for a long time

hallow pollen
random estuary
#

thats a slow bleeding game if ive ever seen 1

shrewd pasture
#

We're all aware rs3 doesn't have the biggest playerbase. Which is why Jagex is takign drastic measures like removal of TH and everything planned for 2026 to attempt to fix it

random estuary
#

im js saying '27k players peak hourly' during the few months with a bunch of nostalgic updates are happening is kind of redunant

shrewd pasture
#

It's a start

random estuary
#

dopamine loops arent going to revive a game

hallow pollen
shrewd pasture
#

Dopamine loops is 99% of gaming

hallow pollen
#

dying game is like 3k players fyi

#

or dead w.e

random estuary
#

declining*

#

was the word i used

hallow pollen
#

its been in this ballpark for over a year and its been on a rise in players as of late

random estuary
#

but go off

hallow pollen
#

theres so little sources saying its dying its not funny

random estuary
#

u cant exactly use a playerbase count to measure the game declining in players when a majority of the playerbase has 2-3+ alts

hallow pollen
#

yes... yes you can

random estuary
#

no?

hallow pollen
#

in fact you cant argue that the majority are 2-3 alts are on at all times

#

you cannot quantify that

#

its a guess

random estuary
#

then its irrelevant

#

25k players is a guess

#

lul

shrewd pasture
hallow pollen
#

ok so if its irrelevant, stop using bad arguments to say the games dying

random estuary
#

i wish i could see replies that werent off topic straw men or false equivalence but its non existent in this discord

hallow pollen
#

its not declining definitionally

random estuary
#

i didnt say dying its not the same thing

hallow pollen
#

we are up 40k players monthly since halloween

shrewd pasture
#

Theres little difference in in saying a game is dying / bleeding / declining. In the end it all means the same thing

random estuary
#

xd? even more players with leagues release

hallow pollen
#

as in higher playerbase in jan than then

random estuary
#

u cant measure the playerbase on a game with alts

hallow pollen
#

osrs

#

done

hallow pollen
#

you right, 50% bots and 2-30 alts cant look at a playerbase at all

#

therefore osrs is dying too

#

thats essentially how you are taking this

shrewd pasture
random estuary
#

^

hallow pollen
#

oh you right declining

#

anyways, creating a reset for a game that declines content use for about a year is horrible for the games health

random estuary
#

claiming a game is showing growth because it spikes during content that consists of alts or nostalgic dopamine loops is silly

hallow pollen
#

it specifically spiked upon th death

#

so yes I can say it

#

its literally higher than the game modes playercount

random estuary
#

thats literally a nostalgic dopamine loop

#

so no

#

u can say that in 4 months tho

hallow pollen
#

idk if you know the words you are using here tbh

random estuary
#

tbh

hallow pollen
#

removing TH isnt a "nostalgic dopamine loop"

random estuary
#

how so

hallow pollen
#

how is it?

shrewd pasture
#

It's nostalgic because it brings us back to 20 years ago when we didn't have it

#

Obviously

hallow pollen
#

its never been removed before so it cannot be nostalgic

#

rs3 is so extremely different to sof / th introduction so it cannot be that

random estuary
hallow pollen
#

in your opinion you mean?

random estuary
#

replying to a "how so" with "how is it" isnt fruitful

#

if thats going to be all ur replies for the next 2 hours dont bother replying lol

hallow pollen
#

neither is saying the game is dying or declining without anything to back it

random estuary
#

ive never said the word dying

hallow pollen
#

dude

#

OR DECLINING

#

why are you here?

random estuary
#

no need to include this

hallow pollen
random estuary
#

nobody claimed that

hallow pollen
#

I can include it as is. its a common argument

random estuary
#

ur refering to declining in the same context as dying

#

they are not the same

hallow pollen
#

they are essentially the same for people who use the rhetoric

shrewd pasture
#

Can you explain what you consider the difference?

random estuary
hallow pollen
#

hes here to troll fr

random estuary
#

that would be the 8th thing ive 'explained'

#

only for u to keep spamming the same reply each time

#

lol

#

im not interested in ragebait

#

same 30 ppl do the same thing on every post in this discord

#

reply in false equivalence & straw men and expect others to give detailed replies

hallow pollen
#

"I make a ragebait post and everyone here is just trolling"

random estuary
#

yet never have any actual input or relevant statistics

shrewd pasture
random estuary
#

"let me look at this completely irrelevant number based off a playerbase i cant actually count and use it as the backbone to an off topic debate"

#

xd?

random estuary
#

thats what u did

#

& continue to do

hallow pollen
random estuary
hallow pollen
#

I actually gave direct numbers

#

yeah thats not the whole list of players

random estuary
#

thats the players online

#

~15k

hallow pollen
#

you aremissing like 100 worlds

#

or more

random estuary
#

u mean the ones with ~80 players?

Why is there no voting system for all these new changes? Is it so hard for RS3 to use a poll system like OSRS?These changes overall have been good but some are forced and remove some great content

hallow pollen
#

would it likely help things? yes!

shrewd pasture
hallow pollen
#

this is true, we did do surveys for a lot of current things

crimson kettle
#

A lot of MMORPGs have "brand new servers" for the sake of having a brand-new-game experience without removing previous servers. Two immediate benefits to this would be to purge the insane inflation (ie. excess of coins in game -- remember when raw chicken used to cost at most 9 gold?), and to lower supply/raise demand in Grand Exchange. It would also be insightful to see how economic trends on the new worlds compare to the original worlds; this could help with rebalancing efforts. Some of these MMORPGs time-lock these servers (wiped after a while), while others keep them around. Either or both would prob be nice alongside the existing servers

vagrant robin
#

Yeah I’m fine with the changes but realistically feedback that’s been ongoing for years doesn’t represent the current player base and won’t necessarily bring back those of which who complained in the past, so why not add a poll system and let the players decide

hallow pollen
#

well adding a poll for accepted stuff people want feels silly imo

#

but for future stuff? yeah it wouldnt hurt. I think jagex is more keen on surveys imo

#

what lego said

fathom drum
#

I do think this is a feasible approach

crimson kettle
# fathom drum People have proposed fresh start servers that reintegrate with the main server a...

Not sure how feasible this is, unless relative wealth distribution (coins and items) were roughly the same for there to be a multiplier on merge. Bonds would prob be the best reference point for such a thing. For example, if New World Bonds are 10m and Old World Bonds are 100m, then New World members would have their coins 10x upon merge (and GE items de-listed). However, ultimately this merge defeats the purpose of the New World being separate from the Old World. Some players want that separation, isolation, and non-entanglement with an overstocked and overinflated vs fresh economy

hallow pollen
#

for most, splitting the playerbase into rsnew and rs is not healthy for the game

#

fresh start worlds was also an aggressive exp boosted gamemode

#

so its like easy rs as a suggestion

limber silo
#

“Not to punish anyone who earned milestones under previous systems” except that we’re wiping 25 years of your progress so that new players don’t feel excluded.
How did you ever think this was a productive suggestion?!

fathom drum
#

the whole point of FSW is to give everyone the experience of beginning on a level playing field

#

after a period of time it will inherently fail to draw new players

#

because you are going to be behind even on a fresh start server

#

that is why you reintegrate it into the main game after a period of time because there functionally won't be any difference other than inflation rates

#

but leagues basically is a more fun version of this so idk what the point is

crimson kettle
#

Personally I think fresh start worlds detract from solving problems by avoiding them (only to re-encounter them later).

I know one thing that peeves me is the insane inflation in the game. I would love for RS to have a great "Divide By 10" patch where all coin pouches and Grand Exchange offerings are divided by 10. I would also love to see the tax at the GE raised.

hallow pollen
fathom drum
#

cuz leagues will actually pull OSRS players

#

FSW probably won't to any meaningful degree

hallow pollen
#

temp and fun game modes would be welcome imo

#

even if I dont partake

fathom drum
#

at the end of the day I think Jagex is really happy if they can get players bouncing back and forth between the two games if there is a content drought in one version of the game

#

reducing the friction for OSRS players to get into RS3 is huge

#

it also just benefits both games because you're less likely to burn out with either

wheat tartan
#

if players want to do this they can do leagues.

limber silo
#

Leagues 2: But Actually Overpowered This Time Boogaloo is already scheduled, so it’s a safe bet there’s not going to be another Fresh Start Worlds in the next two years at least (probably not ever). As for a full game reset, this thread isn’t worth engaging with.

crimson kettle
#

I'll tell you one thing that might work, which I've seen other MMORPGs do: "Max Skill" worlds. Per name, all player skills are maxed. Progression is in the form of equipment, all of which is recalibrated to be relevant (ie. bronze is significantly better than unarmed, and bronze vs iron would have a meaningful distriction for All-120 players). Likewise, monsters and bosses are recalibrated to remain relevant in all zones; a fresh character would still feel Lumbridge Goblins/Chickens/Cows and Bronze Armor relevant before they advance to other areas with tougher enemies requiring higher gear.

Not only does the switch from XP/Level-based progression to Equipment-based progression provide a new gameplay experience, but the non-existent gap between players level-wise means that fresh players can meaningfully play with and against veteran players with better gear (in groups if not solo). This also means that the game becomes more group-oriented vs solo-oriented, and makes PVP more readily accessible.

Player power is split between 100 different grinds in RS3. Arch relics, arch mysteries, untradeable potions, smoke bombs, reputation grinds, livid farm, set bonuses, invention perks, etc etc

#

In OS you just buy your BiS gear and you're good as anyone else

#

As much as I support the general thrust behind most of the changes I do hope Jagex remembers that RS3 is not like OS: the game truly begins after maxing

Idk but in my experience maybe three or four out of a hundred new players care about the high scores in my opinion

Most of them are thinking of either short term goals like ok I'll go do this quest after work or my clan is doing some event I'll go check it out or Iearned about this watching youtube in the morning I can't wait to see for myself, working towards a bond, or skilling to chat and pass time, or long term stuff like quest cape or working towards being able to pvm or obtain some endgame cosmetic item or cool looking gear upgrade

Most of my friends from irl, other games, other MMOs who tried and jumped off rs3 cited many reasons, like treasure hunter (especially TH), lack of interest/time, early game progression feeling bad, combat feeling janky, etc and not one of them complained that they can't compete on the high scores or catch up to an equal competitive footing and earn their place on some leaderboard that most people on both games don't really care or think about.

Resetting everything only gonna lead to more than half the veterans quitting over bitterness and lost time and the rest rushing and scampering to get back to where they were and splitting up a slowly re/growing playerbase especially in a multilayered game like rs would kill the game more than the lack of high score competition

In the other MMOs I've played or checked out, like Guild Wars 2, FFXIV, even WoW, all of the high score boards are seasonal and they do not hard reset your progression. You aren't required to re-do the quests or main story, you keep your mounts, transmogs and other rewards, all earned rewards are kept. You don't have to re-level new classes or characters. Even if the raid gear progression is reset every raid tier or expansion, all the rewards and achievement points you obtained are kept. Old raid gear is new glam gear.

Leagues does a perfect job of evening the playing field without y'know deleting all the shit and all my memories and emotions over the past decade

I think an interesting avenue to consider is to bring back seasonal highscores or explore prestiging exp, not wiping the slate

I remember when my endgame clannie took my slayer camping ass to vindicta, taught me the fight and some bare-bones basics of rs3 combat and us splitting a zaros crest
I remember when I was healing for the first time in ffxiv and a tank player with some legend title and a really cool greatsword taught me how to deal with wall to wall gigapulls and effectively using whatever I have to heal through the damage and take some potshots of my own
I remember when in guild wars 2 I was struggling to fight a boss in some noob world map zone, I shouted for help in chat and I saw like 8 people in shiny endgame legendary gear and sparkly dragons and shit rushing to save me and help me with completing the map

I feel like these are the kinds of experiences new players are looking for, not a hiscores rank that you have to dig through the website for

For people who care about highscores, I agree, they should do a seasonal reset version where it just tracks exp gained for that season but the accounts are not actually reset. You will still be 200m on the overall but you can try for 200m "virtual exp" in record time each season.

That would also be great for Jagex since it retains those players who are 200m maxed but still want to skill.
