#Road to Restoration - What We Want To Achieve

I associate monthlies less as a chore
But for something like herby werby the fix is pretty easy
and troll invasion can be removed i suppose or just be combat xp or whatever.
Without god statues, I wouldn't have neither construction or prayer at 99. Black on white.
construction will have a rework and is much easier now with the fort
Monthlies you have a whole month to do.
prayer on a normal account is just a buyable. For an ironman it's a struggle though with vyres or picking up dragon bones being the best methods, maybe vindicta runs if good in pvm.
and seren stones if richj
That's the issue. You shouldn't need to rely on those things to get your levels in the skill.
Yes. That's why I don't like the upper implication I should feel bad about wanting to log in for monthlies
But prayer is also a hard skill to make more fun and it's one of the reasons i think the 110/120 will be one of the last ones
also because powercreep is risky with new prayers/rewards having to be added
Then the game needs to give me the way to not need to rely on those BEFORE removing stuff. But they're not doing that, they are just promising something undefined while in shutdown phase.
I don't get it? I mean i think the issue with the hourlies is that it makes you feel bad for not doing them but monthlies you can do whenever in a month of playing.
prayer has very good utility but getting there to that level where it has its good uses is an issue.
💯
But Lions argument is probably more integrity-focused
like that it isn't done via regular leveling/skilling
I'm seriously worried as for the first time in near-20 years of playing, I'm contemplating my RS future...
The more they talk about this integrity, the worse I feel
My biggest problem is point 1 (because it actively can burn me out to have to do them everytime (with fomo etc)
Lions is more talking about point 2 which i also sort of agree with
the monthlies and weeklies are less of an issue for point one, because it doesn't feel as much of a chore to do.
well the weeklies can enter that territory but it isn't as bad
I don't really play with a daily chore besides ports/checking maw.
I'm just of opinion it should be improvements first, removal second.
Because I don't trust the promsies if I get nothing for so long
i agree but it makes me feel bad for missing out on stuff and when i'm in a clan or ironman group, ppl would say: why aren't you doing the wildy events...
i don't want to be inetrrupted from a grind because every hour there is a wildy event with overpowered rewards like infernal ashes for my ironman account
Exactly. So many times it's like "Why aren't you doing that instead of grinding over here".
which menas i have to do them to play optimal - which is true. It isn't close, that 10 mins i do the wildy event gives me far more than what 1h of runescape would give me
the roadmap for february already says early game balance in february.
Then why still no word about that? Like... at all?
tomorrow
they say they will talk about it tomorrow
There are skills I literally can't train without bxp stack. Like... literally.
(mid game and late game balancing will happen later this year)
So I'm desperately waiting what they can do.
it's not even 6 days into the month lol
I remember people saying that you shouldn't train Dung normally because the daily challenges were better than doing the floor.
I always enjoyed running the floor regardless but getting huge amounts of XP is crazy to bypass things
my issue with dung is that it feels like my XP rates are item drops instead of XP
yea its kinda true, doing 1 floor where i'm now at like floor 34 (level 81), hard, even max completing it is still less xp than a daily challenge that i extended with vis wax
and you can just do easy complexity 1 floor for that daily
It just shouldn't be that way imo. And I hope they do change it over the course of the year and the years to come.
dungeoneering in general is a bit in need of a rework too
I was seriously never as worried as I am now... that's so not a good sign...
one of the things i don't like is if you do dungeoneering in group that you have all to be on the same floor for it to be optimal so you keep resetting. I just wish you could just pick the floor that is the highest of the combined three, and that you don't have to worry about resetting progress and could just do the same floor over and over again. One of the most tiresome parts of dung is that you always have to do these lower floors repeatedly on small, complexity 1. So that you get to the floors again that give good xp. Like that alone would be a big QOL fix for me if i could just pick the floor i want to do, even if that's 10 times in a row the same floor
100%
it's annoying as hell to want to do some DG and then have like 'ok we'll do these three then those seven floors, then Dave needs to do 4 floors that the rest of us have already done so he can prestige, then we should probably do some rush floors to get those out of the way'
there are rebalance updates planned throughout the year and tomorrow will have a blog with the aim and details of the early game rebalance update slated for the 16th, the blog is stated to have lots of information
yesterday's blog has this
For example, the early-game rebalance update will tackle a bunch of issues in the early game, but we know there'll be plenty more to address in the early game outside of just those. At the same time some things might feel out of place or controversial for a while between updates; The early-game rebalance will address some low level Agility, but the mid-levels of Agility will be addressed with the mid-game rebalance, and so on.
Well, I seriously hope so. Because I've been disappointed with not one, but two blogs already.
Regarding that topic
...we were told what the blogs would be about, the blogs were about the thing we were told they would be
do we know what they consider early level and mid level?
I think breezy gave a ballpark of 1-40/50 for early
assuming similar to combat, up to 60 is early, 70-80 is mid, 80-99 is late 99-120 is end
yea i mean if thats what the wiki says, agility is definitely most in need of it. If doing what settled in swampletics in osrs did is what is meta rn
early has more levels in it but you also get out of it pretty fast if you know what you're doing and because of all the unbalanced stuff right now in the game. Of course youc an always probably skip a lot of levels because of quest rewards early on.
right now I'm doing my 250 laps for advanced barb course... it's sub 1k xp per lap for a requirement of 90 lol
earlier courses are not better lol
Hefin and Anachronia are like, the only courses actually sort of worth doing xp wise
I say this a lot but if you look at the exp rate table for agility courses you can clearly see an intention
i think every course i've done so far is awful, but i've never doen anachronia as a whole (in part also because it is hard to get to that level, i'm like 1 level away from it, i can theoretically boost for it now). But the way to get to it... is rough.
that intention being that just about everything is warped around wildy course with demonic skull
silverhawk boots have been the only tolerable agility method for aaaaages
you can see that the devs have clearly tried to make many things worse than wildy course
even more recent content
i think it used to be
1-35: tree gnome village
35+ barbarian course in like 2007
and then the wildy once you can do that which i think was 52
I remember I had to stack on bxp AND pulse cores to get 99 agility and even then, it was too much of a strain
but the wildy course itself isn't great. And demonic skull is pointless for a game that has stepped away from pvp. And recently also got rid of doing demonic skull abyss rc training
most ppl simply levelled agility with silverhawks
making it a 99 without barely ever interacting with the skill
i think for how click intensive agility is it should just be a pretty fast skill, if you aren't planning on a major rework of the skill (which i don't know how you can do that).
im not arguing in favor
Well, I did use silverhawks as well but I actively leveled it up with Priffdinas course when I was well into the 90s...
im just giving information
the reason agility sucks is because they made sure nothing is better than wildy course with demonic skull
even with anachronia they made sure that the novice course didn't break the mold
and then suddenly once you can do the full anachronia course agility exp doubles
I luckily have enough bxp in stack for the remaining two levels of mining to get to 99... but after that, gathering skills will become a problem for me regarding leveling up....
the only afk agility methods are empty throne room (which is still not that afk) and the serenity posts which is another daily basically. And silverhawks but that wasn't even skilling at all and is now removed anyways
and by the time you unlock full anachronia course there is no reason to level agility anymore cause there are basically no impactful rewards post 85 other than course-specific rewards
there's a few more shortcuts
it's this reason of always dancing around the wildy course that the prif course isnt even in the guide anymore cause they added a new course that couldn't be too much faster so it just replaced prif
unlikely to be addressed this month unfortunately since that's more of a mid-game thing but who knows
prif (with voice of seren), hets oasis & wildy with demonic skull are all pretty similar rates, especially if you have surefooted aura which makes hets oasis a little better (but with auras being removed, it'll be wildy with demonic skull hands down again)
prif is only in competition with vos
without vos its worse than the other 2, i tested all 3 on my ironman
all 3 courses are "mid game" yea. wildy is the earliest unlocked at 52
Hefin would even be a late game course
It is possible they could change the level requirements a bit
because there are no good early courses really
only burthorpe, tree gnome & barbarian course come to mind, everything else is locked behind quests and never worth doing. These 3 courses also aren't worth doing, better to do sections of anachronia, but it's the three courses i could see being buffed a little in an early game balance update
I could see a hybrid agility/hunter method where you're chasing down whichever creature that keeps ducking under logs, climbing trees, etc. and you need to traverse the obstacles to catch it. Probably difficult to actually implement with 0.6s ticks though.
and also probably the most nobody ever sees
brimhaven agility arena & agility pyramid aare also "early game" so those may also see changes
its just that a lot of early game agility is just very outdated content that hasn't been touched in now almost 2 decades
Burthorpe course doesn't even give rocks for Shattered Heart...
aside of the burthorpe course but thats basically a tutorial course
Brimhaven Agility was very not fun on Leagues. A full hour of tagging pillars with very high fail rates, for worse XP rates than OSRS after its update.
Brimhaven at low levels is indeed not optimal because of the fail rates.
like a few obstacles that are a bit harder makes it hard to reach the tagging pillars in time
I had like 70 Agility when I went for the task, and I had like 30% fail or something
(because some obstacles have a level 40 requirement)
Brimhaven is v bad
even with aura some obstacles can be failed, because " it doesn't work with the saw blade obstacle and broken planks in the Brimhaven Agility Arena"
and it's still bad in osrs even after they did a bunch of work on it (I should know I did 1100 laps of it for clogs)
and its irrelevant cause its getting removed anyways
I think pyramid probably just needs tweaks (big ones) to failure rates at intended level brackets and the reward increasing from 1k to like 50k or something
some agility courses are also among the most obscure dead content imagineable like ape atoll course, penguin course, werewolf skullball & dorgeshkaan agility course
Oh dear, werewolf skullball...
oh yeah... that was theoretically a reward for one of those quests lol
skullball was one of the ones I was thinking of when I mentioned "bespoke animations"
the problem is that agility as a skill just hasn't aged well in terms of game design, like the oldest quests heavily use agility but its a very outdated gameplay mechanic/design today
I don't think they have you hanging by your bite anywhere else
make run energy relevant again
Please, please don't touch run energy... it's one of the top three reasons at least why OSRS doesn't work for me.
same for me
And it brings me so many frustrating memories from my early days of playing RS...
main reason why i can't get into osrs
I mean crossed out text generally means they aren't being serious
..."this statement is a lie" ass thing Terper
all my ideas are stupid so it's hard to tell sometimes
run energy arguably should be removed entirely but that makes energy potions in a dead spot too and some quest rewards like the spas. But it's already mostly irrelevant because the only situation where i can run out of run energy is anachronia.
eh
I kinda feel a bit like it's one of those "it's nice to have unlocks" type things
sure, I've had Endurance on since I got it
it'll never happen ofc, but it already basically acts like you always have run energy
but I have it on because otherwise annoying things happen
I think if you keep it as a mechanic there should be more places introduced which do things like cause run to drain at a faster rate
I can see all of these being boosted and then demonic skull boost being removed from wildy course
the teleports available also means you rarely have to run long distances if you know what you're doing and know the teleports available to you (which can be a bit hard though if you don't use the wiki or new/returning player)
yes thats what i also had in mind
esp barbarian outpost & gnome stronghold need a big buff
I want an afk method and/or something actually interesting to do
I think they also need to recognise that the early courses are bad atm
not just bad xp but bad
yeah but for that we will have to wait on an agility rework/110-120 update
aside of burthorpe all of these course exist for 15 years in the gaem now, most 20+
can't really be addressed in a rebalance, thats for new content or a remaster to address
The Great Gielinor Run was actually a pretty fun achievement, you might want to try it.
penguin agility course is the newest in 2007 and even burthorpe is 14 yrs old now
yeah fair although
there are two for this year and one is most certainly dungeoneering
I'd say if anything else needs a remaster asap it's agility but I don't actually hate courses all that much
I think some stuff like having animation stalls addressed so that the player is released slightly before an animation finishes rather than slightly after an animation finishes probably fits within the scope of balancing
I do!
it looks janky either way but the animations are rough
RS run energy is the reason why I can play my newbie with my self-imposed challenge of not using any lodestones
afk-agility-wise I think the immediate solution is to remove caps on the empty throne room bikes and serenity posts
yeah, with how slow the exp is those can just be uncapped
those offer reasonably fair rates for afking imo (could probably even be buffed a little)
yeh
Posts could scale to level ideally.
yeah sure
target like 120k xp/hr at 99 or something
Agility seriously needs some less-clicking method to train.
Agreed
Did I hear that loadstones might go away? Cuz like that would be horrid and I think would be severely disliked. There’s already plenty of places teleporting or load stoning to still require you to run a bit to. I feel like it would seriously increase player frustration.
no they haven't said that
No words about removing lodestones
i think the lodestones are here to stay, i wouldn't worry about that
And I think they are very much necessary at least in locations like Anachronia, Menaphos, Priffdinas and such.
I'm sure Havenhythe would have a lodestone as well
but these 3 you also unlock/earn them so these 3 are the most obvious ones to stay
I do think we could do with a little less of them... Burthorpe/Taverley could have one. Catherby/Seers as well.
i think some in the middle of nowhere feel a bit out of place like the ooglog one
They said that friction isn't inherently bad and having situations where you have to consider your loadout vs banking is good to have
And then people extrapolated that to mean anything and everything
and stuff like agoroth don't need a lodestone, idk how that island was called but it used to be a tutorial
Ashdale
yea ashdale
I do think some lodestones could probably be tossed
do we really need both taverley and burthorpe
If you ever feel useless, just remember Ashdale has a lodestone.
Also Lumbridge/Draynor could have one together
for draynor there is wicked hood and the wars retreat/necro rituals portal anyways
Yeah
But the remote locations like Priffdinas, Menaphos... I think there are very much needed. Also Fremennik area
The one in Bandit Camp is locked behind Desert Treasure as well so I think that one makes full sense too,.
So you have easier access to the (however it is called) pyramid
If they intend to add skilling content to less frequented areas like Relekka, then they’re going to need a bank. It’s been 20 years and those barbarians still won’t get one (but their islands do for some reason).
Ah okay good, it’s just something I heard and was like omg no
They should strongly consider yeeting Ashdale into the sun tbh. Completely dead space.
Oh definitely. I agree on that.
lunar isle maybe makes mroe sense given the lore that they have a bank
I think they'd risk pissing off too much fanbase.
(Knock on wood)
they likely won't touch that, they meant other stuff with friction
I do play my newbie without lodestones as a challenge and I began using them less on my main as well but I think they don't harm the game in any way
I hope they don't remove banks... it's another issue I have with OSRS. Run energy takes forever and banks are so spread apart.
I also wish Lumbridge's bank was moved to the ground. Yes, there's a bank chest now but as a starting town, I think it would be better to have proper bank on the ground and not on top of the castle.
I agree but also things are changing so who knows lol
I mean, I hope they read this thread
Considering they seem to be very "aware" of everything that people get displeased about
What I do hope is that they don't end up making OSRS with just better graphics.
(Turning RS into that I mean)
Tbh I could see them toning down some banks
Like, I think for has 5 banks or so
I could see the one with the well going since portables are going
I feel every proper town should have a bank. But they can remove those bank chests that are in close proximity of other bank.
The thing is way more people use the Reddit threads than the discord, so unless whatever we say is also being said on Reddit then we automatically get less “weight” behind our suggestions or complaints.
Well, I don't use Reddit. I find it too... burderning for most of the time. Likely, I'd get pissed off over and over again there.
ANd I hope they listen about that "grounded medieval" stuff... because I recall several comments here alongside mine that didn't agree with that.
I know if these "integrity blogs" keep stressing me out, I'll have to seriously consider taking indefinite break... for the first time in my near-20 years of playing.
Reddit never seems to have the benefit of new players in mind imo
Its mostly qol for players with 1k+ hours
fort is ridicilous honestly
like i don't like fort
you can skill half the skills there basically
it doesn't look great, i don't like the storyline, i don't like the music & vibe lol. And i just don't like how op and easyscape it screams
I haven't reached the Fort yet with quests as I'm sticking to timeline so I can't say anything about Fort yet.
But considering I love most of the quests, I doubt I'll have issues with it.
oh respect that you follow the timeline
(Necromancy quests are the only ones I don't stick to timeline)
I do them as I level up
it's more the qol that i don't like, the quests are allright, the last ones i like, the earlier ones i find more meh
I'm at Extinction regarding timeline at the moment
I do wonder where Havenhythe will fit regarding timeline.
trust me they'll not bring back run energy as a mechanic that is impactful
lots of ppl would stop playing the game lol
i like osrs grindiness and challenges and so on but run energy is a stupid uninteresting mechanic
Run energy, graphics, tedious grind... the big 3 why I'll never prioritize OSRS
I only occassionally play it on (completely separate) newbie as I want to eventually do its exclusive quests
osrs is mostly nostalgia and for ppl who like that combat system more (or the pvp)
the ones that want to relive their childhood
Yeah, but for me, it's a good reminder why I do not miss my early years of playing
Run energy especially reminded me of that
Also, I wish RS stays serious in tone regarding its quests and lore. The tone they kept from its RS3 days onwards.
Sure, there are comedic quests, I don't mind those.
what i don't like is holiday-themed quests
But the overall vibe, I like that it feels serious
quests that have little to do with lore at all
i play games and do stuff sometimes to forget that there are holidays, i don't want to be continuously reminded there is a holiday or something...
What I like is that characters really feel like characters in story. Including yours.
But especially NPCs
This may be unpopular but I like they made men and women not attackable in Lumbridge. Because I feel it adds "integrity" to our character to not just attack unarmed civilians
i mean the same can be said about gnomes, elves, goblins etc and we can fight these
Well, I also like that elves in Priffdinas do not die when you fight them. But obviously, some NPCs will always be attackable.
I don't mind fighting armed NPCs like guards and such... but being able to attack ordinary men and women in your starting town, that's what I'm not fond of and I'm glad it got changed.
Oh, and I like gnomes are no longer level 1 in Gnome Stronghold. I mean, they haven't been in a while anyways.
We're canonically H.A.M. members- so those are just savage monsters.
real
Oh huh, they changed the unarmed civilians to be unattackable? At least in Lunbridge?
Interesting.
Issues with the buff bar have been raised months (years?) ago including not being able to resize, not being able to split out by type of buff, and buffs moving around like musical chairs. I get what you mean by clutter, but it would be good if you can model the buff bars like the action bars, allowing the display of 1 or more, and configuring them to show what you need them to in a predefined order. Presumably the edit mode interface doesn't allow this kind of functionality.
Other annoyances are the 'notifications' that appear directly above a player while in combat, distracting significantly from fight mechanics. Apparently this was a mod side project months (years?) ago as well, and still nothing is done.
As for weekly updates, I wouldn't call patching a "weekly update", but that's just me.
On the plus side, I do like the plan of starting from the low levels and working up to rebalance the skilling. It will have literally zero benefit to my character at this point, but hopefully it will prove beneficial to players as a whole.
As for auras and bossing content, I feel that there needs to be a lot more transparency over how this will occur followed by frequent, detailed comms on RS and with notifications on logon of proposed changes. In addition to the unexpected interface change recently, I was also caught off guard by TH ending earlier than expected by a few days, and more recently by the disappearance of the premier vault. I'd already lost the extra daily keys I paid for (1 day after the apparent cutoff), so to lose 2 premier member benefits within a month I have to push that this was not communicated well enough (frequently and detailed) especially for players who take breaks.
I was also caught off guard by TH ending earlier than expected by a few days,
But th didn't end earlier? It ended exactly when they said it would
It ended mid-week - they announced it would be phased out by date X, but it wasn't made clear that they meant phased out as the week progressed up to that date rather than the usual Monday update.
afaik it was announced to stop on the 19th and that's when it ended
With keys being unobtainable from the 12th
Ah OK I must've just had keys left over for a few days after the 12th and then the icon didn't appear on logon when I wasn't given new daily keys. Mystery solved.
I'm feeling the same
I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've been worrying for months the game is beginning to lean too much into OSRS-ism and every single blog they release, I feel it only enforces my belief.
Now developers talking about "grounded medieval realism" and game being "too easy"... that's everything but encouraging to me. And this whole "remove first, improve second" approach while actively avoiding discussion of the latter.. this just makes me worried.
If RS is in decline and OSRS is not - then wouldn't it be good to look at what makes OSRS successful and bring some of that into RS?
I just see it that they're putting it back to what it was, "Restoration".
Exactly
But i think mtx and that kind of nonsense was already a big reason of why RS isn't as popular as OSRS
ofc hard to win from OSRS on nostalgia
The graphics bother me a little bit though i already got into rs when they did some graphical updates in lumbridge area, and i like the monster models a lot more in rs3
I wish they updated some of the earlier ones
OSRS has a identity - they do some amazing content over there and you still feel like you're playing OSRS, right?
my main problem with rs3 is mtx, dailyscape & easyscape
with osrs it's run energy and graphics and some skills that are tedious af
combat is mixed for me, i think rs3 combat is just harder, but i would just say it's different, i probably am a bitter in the osrs combat because it's more simple to understand. A lot of thinsg have changed so like people would be more drawn to osrs if they don't like the powercreep and that their precious nostalgia items are no longer good (abyssal whip, rune stuff). RS3 has more challenging boss fights and pvm though.
If I wanted OSRS-like game, I would have played OSRS. But I'm not because it's too much of a reminder why I do not miss my early RS years.
I was for removal of TH because of gambling mechanics but at same time, I'm now frustrated as I have no way to restore my bxp stacks but to spend real money. The developers keep saying they'll compensate by rebalancing skills yet they near-completely avoid discussing it now.
I think i like the f2p world a little more in osrs (although rs3 made a huge step in right direction), but i definitely prefer rs3 desert/menaphos, priffdinas & anachronia over that of osrs, i also like necromancy and archeology. And to some extent also summoning & dungeoneering. Only divination i don't really like but that can actually quite easily be fixed honestly (not as harde to fix as for skills like agility... which in osrs isn't better). I also definitely like herb & farm & hunter & thieving more in rs3 than in osrs.
& slayer is far better in rs3 too
i'll probably try out some osrs one day just to explore zeah & sailing a bit
I think a lot of hardcore OSRS players, especially those who strongly dislike EOC, would probably enjoy a lot of the newer boss PvM content if they actually tried it. It is fun and engaging.
But that argument is basically the same as telling them they’d enjoy playing Call of Duty because it’s fun and engaging too.
The problem isn’t whether the content is fun. The problem is whether it still feels like RuneScape.
It's imo a lot harder to do end-game PvM in rs3 compared to sors although i haven't tried much of the newer stuff & raids. And powercreep is less high there, but the combat system is easier to understand.
UI is a bit of an issue in rs3 but that's hard to fix without angering the existing playerbase
Unfortunately, you’re a minority within a minority in a declining game. Jagex are trying to turn things around because the worst-case scenario is that the game ends up in maintenance mode and becomes unsustainable.
I think something like thieving is a good example to how they should movbe forward, you don't need bxp to leevl that skill. It's fast, fun, lots of stuff to do: both active, afk and training the skill which all have different methods: respectively heists, afk pickpocketing and safecracking.
Just get rid of the thieves doors ridicilous xp and maybe some early game balance updates for thieving, only change they need to do.
And it's also profitable, and very important on an ironman rn.
i know that some skills will never be able to reach that level, firemaking is an example. The skill itself is just too simple for it and that's fine. It's firemaking like lol.
But it also isn't an important 99. Just having it at 80 is fine to enjoy all end game content really. Can be one of the last 99s.
FM could benefit from an end game skilling boss, but other than that it's just burning logs. Bonfires are allright. At least... we have bonfires.
Firemaking luckily has high xp rates for bonfiring. I think when I leveled it to 99 in 2014, I didn't need to rely on bxp stack. It was fast enough and enabled me that I didn't need to stare at that fire all the time on screen.
what are skills you used to use bxp for or that you feel you needed bxp for?
Any skill that has me locked in tedious monotonous grind with no dynamics.
Fishing, mining, woodcuttting...
Divination...
Agility
all gathering skills other than agility and for agility the problem is known, also agreed with divination
mining is pretty fast i'd say now and super afk
fishing and woodcutting is afk, but indeed a bit slow, especially fishing.
Archaeology, I'm fine as it's dynamic at least regarding environment and it's also assemblimg collections and all...
Mining, I luckily have enough stack left for the two remaining levels. And notepapee
*r
part of why mining isn't as problematic for me is because on my ironman i have to mine the gems and all the ores myself and you need more ores than the ores to get you to 99 for smithing, so it means mining automatically will have a high level if i level smithing and crafting. And shooting stars is actually pretty fast if you hunt for these
but woodcutting and fishing are i think two of the slowest skills rn, but ppl don't complain about them as often because they're pretty afk
Fishing and wc, I luckily have behind me
99 I mean
But of course I "worry" for my newbie in future
fishing is a little more in need of a rework, and i hope to see a fish & cook 120 update at some point maybe next year. And to see food become more important in PvM (which they plan to change given the intention to go from 10 to 3% adrenalin cost for eating food)
at least they made low level trees less tedious now with normal trees giving more than 1 log sometimes
Only when I was a few levels away from 99, I went for active grind (with bxp stack + pulse cores usually)
woodcutting was my last 75 on my ironman for Priff for a reason lol.
I still didn't like lamping. But I loved stacking bxp
But you need logs for firemaking, fletching & construction. Especially the fort grind in early game helps your woodcutting a lot on an ironman given you need to get all these logs yourself, Miscellania means though that i don't need to do as much wc though like for mining because you get a free supply of maple logs (whcih i use for fm or getting stuff for fletching).
I mean, I hope that red ivy on Havenhythe is part of WC improvement
Not that I need it on my main, but still.
That's why it's discouraging for me when developers talk about improving skills in light of TH removal but then at same time game being "too easy" and all.
the blog for that is today
I feel also that there is a less of an incentive to level your fishing compared to mining for instance because you need m&s for gear or repairing stuff. For fishing. Once you unlock travelling merchant and maybe the quest crocodile tears for some qol in the desert, there isn't really that much of a reason to keep levelling it. There are no high end quests, food isn't important in the meta (and you get lots of it anyways from fishing since the xp for catching a fish is just slow). Only thing you need to increase your fishing lvl for is bgh and morytania elite tasks 4 but other than that i've had no reason to level it.
and cooking is potentially even in a more irrelevant situation given bait and switch relic.
Both skills also suffer from a bit of bloat and poor UI in terms of unlocks. And i agree that fishing is too repetitive, at least for woodcutting you can move from log to log (idk if thats the best way to level wc, it might just be ivies). But for fishing, level 20 you level on salmon-tuna. And once you unlock menaphos you can stay there and level there all the way to 99
Arch is like super slow but as you say actually bearable because there is so much chnage in scenery of location, unlocks that are all relevant, different types of content like mysteries making it less repetitive
and once it may be in danger of becoming repetitive, it starts to dramatically speed up.
I don't think they were talking about the gathering skills when they say that, we have 20+ skills in game
fishing and woodcutting are known to be in top 5 slowest, and probably top 3 alongside arch.
they're clearly talking about some other skills.
and arch would be a faster 120 than fish & wc would be
also giant crayfish at lvl 82 for fishing.
For the textbox popups on top of your character: you can move where they show up in advanced layout mode. So much better than default.
That's why I hope we finally get some info! If this ends up being the third blog I'll end up feeling frustrated and deflated after reading it, I don't know what to think anymore.
I really don't like this mentality "OSRS is more popular so RS should be closer to OSRS". Like, why need two games then? Majority of OSRS players despise EOC, does this means RS needs OSRS combat?
The reason I sticked with and supported RS for near-20 continuous years is exactly because I watched the game grow and expand. From that old graphics and small playscreen to what it is now. From utterly dreading to die in the game back then as it could stall my progress for months, to be able to relaxingly play now with no fear of that anymore. It was like growing up for me... getting to better place.
To be fair “they despise EoC” but haven’t given it a fair chance in 14 years, or players who joined later and got scared off by all the veteran complainers.
That's why I seriously question if OSRS-ism is the right way for RS.
rs3 isn't turning into osrs 🤷♂️
I think instead of blaming player base. The fair blame should be placed into Jx's hands. Mtx became untolerably toxic and combined with poor, if any, communication were the killing blows *for many players.
Hopefully Jx has learned. I'm not holding my breath tho as this road to "integrity" has already had a rough start.
osrs is really turning into a big boogeyman nowadays
please acknowledge that many of your fellow rs3 players want a lot of these changes and have been clamoring for them for years
To me it feels like half the people sayign rs3 is turning into osrs don't even know half the differences between the games. And that it's very unlikely the xp grinds will turn into anything close to what osrs is
and i don't think woodcutting & fishing in rs3 is actually faster than in osrs, other than maybe some stuff like crystallize and expensive upkeep methods that might make it faster
honestly it's more like osrs became rs3 lol
RS3 has several extra skills, a bunch of different skilling content, entirely different combat system, 100 extra quests and so on
I do think it strange saying that we're turning it into OSRS because the UI is brown instead of blue
The exp rates between games don't even compare
I've done pretty much everything on osrs, save for a few things lol
they're hoping for some returning players from osrs, there's overlap in playerbase
and yes stuff like cosmetics did botherme, i'm really glad we have the option to hide that now
yah but they're not turning it into osrs
^
if they wanted it to become osrs, they would just shut down the servers, they already have osrs
real lol
when they talk about more friction and "easyscape", one it's because also because a part of the playerbase agree and 2. they talk more about stuff like doing minibosses for dg tokens, daily challenges, bxp from th keys, wildy flash events, jack of trades aura, doing arch glacor 0 mechanics runs for infinite blue charms, ed3 trash runs (i know some of these are nerfed, but i'm just giving a couple of examples). That's more what they talk about, especially methods that are unbalanced compared to other skilling methods.
they aren't talking about nerfing wc and fishing xp rates
or making those skills harder again
they want it to be more balanced and to be a more genuine experience: therefore road to restoration.
and focus on integrity
wc and fishing are arguably the slowest 120s, if anything they may get slightly buffed which is more likely i think
(idk the eternal magic wood xp rate tho), but the 99 is also one of the slowest
ok, but people ED for DG because Daemonheim is baaaaad
like, even if you are trying to do Daemonheim for DG because you like Daemonheim
it's not great
there's weird stuff where your XP rates are often heavily RNG dependent
(because even if I can do a floor in 2 minutes, that depends on the critical path being reasonably straightforward and not doubling back on itself seven times)
and that's solo
and trying to get groups together is like
"ok so everyone has the same floors unlocked right, and everyone's maxed so no one's gonna hit a door they can't open right?"
(or at least everyone's in the same level brackets so we don't need people routing around to open doors)
"and also everyone's on the same floor so we aren't giving up giant chucnks of xp to get so and so up to speed right?"
if they wanna nerf ED for DG... make Daemonheim not a hellhole first pls
Several things with DG need to be improved; but reworking or tossing the floor/prestige system is #1 IMO. It disincentivizes groups.
basically all of these problems have existed since the skill launched
dg really isn't that bad. Sure theres some things that could use improvement but alot of it comes down to people just not knowing how to dg
bro
literally none of what I just said is improved by "oh I know how to DG"
floor layout is entirely rng and the grouping problems are not solved by "I know what I need to do"
Idk if the randomness of floors is really the problem- but several highly frustrating/slow rooms do need to be cut or reworked.
the randomness of floors is kinda a problem
specifically the amount of "ok the critical path needs me to cross the entire dungeon five times because of where the keys are"
it makes xp feel less like xp and more like item drops
but when I want to grind for xp I don't want to feel like I'm farming items lol
you don't need to make to floors deterministic
but it could def use a pass on exactly how the crit path generates to make fewer "this floor took an extra 4 minutes for no reason"
the feel difference when I bang out five small floors in ten minutes vs when I hit a snag floor and get three in the same amount of time
is painful
I mean- there are what, like 3 or 4 different gatestone teleport options?
Idk. I hear your point of frustration, but my concern is anything close to standardizing floors will just result in an un-dynamic "solvable" skill.
I feel like an in-game version of Al-1's "DGKey" tool might help solve this issue.
there are two teleports until 95 dung when you can get Daemonheim 4
yeah making some DGkey functionality native is absolutely fundamental to DG improvement imo
remembering what the requirements for various doors was is not fun gameplay, all doors should just be added to the map as soon as a player unlocks the room
you get one more with Daemonheim 4
I'd say because it's isolated within its own instance, it'd also be cool to have DG-exclusive buffs like accel pots
eh I've phrased that poorly
basically I want to be able to roll on powerup tables during dungeoneering to make my character feel v strong in the context of DG. One powerup could be permanent accel pot effect during dungeons while the powerup was enabled
agreed and a very easy way that is a step in the right direction is just allow us to choose the floor we want to be on, every floor is virtually the same anyways. Will also stimulate more co-op in dg as you don't have to worry about not being on the same floor as long as the floor you play on has been unlocked (level) by the other player
everything else must be part of a larger rework but that is an easy change that can easily be implemented that already would make dg so much more tolerable in its current state.
💯
...also they'd probably need to look at token gain/prices
when "Infinite Gold Accumulator" was the only thing for more than 100k tokens a pop the Daemonheim rates weren't unreasonable
...every ED upgrade is a million+ lol
With current token rates it's not that unreasonable though. a few hours of work for one
yeh, but current token rates are based on... well, doing ED's
so if they want to nerf ED for DG... they'd need to do something about that since I'm pretty sure ED token gain still operates on "1 token per 10 xp" rule
yeah DH token rates need a buff
probably start with doubling them
think even the top end with 120 dg is getting less than 200k tokens/hr which is less than you can get just by token farming with a bit of effort
I mean
I don't think it'd neccesarily be wrong to make a change that leaves DH token gain where it is, and ED token gain where it is, while buffing DH xp and nerfing ED xp and making you pick between high xp rates and high token rates
the issue I think I have with that is that a method, especially one as massive and complex as DH, existing essentially only for xp doesn't feel great. If anything, I'd give it a much bigger buff and remove tokens from EDs (but I also want to see more sweeping changes for DG that are probably beyond the scope of this)
I'd remove tokens outright and redistribute the dg loot to be actual loot gained from finishing dungeon from one of the themes
So the motivation to do frozen floors isn't "I need to check this off" but instead become "I want the loot from frozen floors"
even better
Speaking of Daemonheim, curious: did they ever reveal what Floor 51 was going to be? I assume the plans for Bilrach have changed a LOT since then.
Floor 61 with the rift isn't something we've gotten much details on beyond the initial loredrops
that said I wouldn't count it out as a future thing
Moia has headquarters in that floor after all
Rework blast furnace or i cry
y is this half range half melee lol
So Silverhawk boots will be removed from the game
will I get a keepsake key in return, cuz I keepsaked mine
So pvm heists style?
its so strange to me making the grind for new players harder while keeping existing highscore rankings & not releasing something like a legacy highscores/removing 200m xp cap
here u go guys gl competing w the existing playerbase
xd?
The number of players who care about HS is astronomically low.
Runescape is not configured to be a truely competitive game.
problem with HS is that there is a cap with 200 mil xp and too many players are close or near that gap. HS rankings also are arranged in such way that a lot of players are already top end so you'd be top 300k if lvl 75 or so. And then not even top 100k if you have a level 99 unless its a newer skill
there just isn't really much of an incentive to care about HS
and if there somehow was ppl would start at unequal footing ground
you would need a hard reset, then you care more about HS.
like in modes like leagues you'd care more about HS
in normal RS you don't, you care more about solo achievements (comp, maxxing, etc)
you'd need a new mode to draw new players like some kind of 2026 new start mode highscore table for players that create an account past this date or something, smething like that.
plugins are coming late this year
if people wanna spend their own money on database space for it they can make a plugin for new leaderboards
this is never a good reason to not update something, it's literally a reason TO update it.
imo u could just remove the xp cap & eventually it would even out because some people would just focus one select skill.
makes 0 sense for a new player who wants to focus say fishing to hit 200m and then see 0 gains
& be rank #6k+ for the rest of their gameplay experience
Recent (within the past year or two) Player experience and feedback polling has shown that unhappiness xp/implementing a prestige system is deeply unpopular.
how are u polling players who dont play the game
also removing xp cap isnt a prestige system
It's not as simple as "just uncap xp"
given how many ppl are at 200 mil xp cap could be a good idea, but i don't want these to be part of a comp/maxing requirement, just for ppl who want to go beyond 200 mil (but it shouldn't be like expected that you level beyond it)
i think ppl are worried about losing their prorgess or that it becomes part of comp to prestige multiple times something like that
agreed
also think legacy highscores to retain world first 200m's is good
Curious, where & when was this polling?
Would love to see the stat's re poll
As a 200m all, would love xp count towards something past 200m
nah I don't think so. RS3 is not particularly interesting as a hiscore game right now - and I say this as someone who recently held a rank 1
I think there's some room in temporary stuff for it to be exciting
bring back seasonal hiscores etc
and the new skill race will always be somewhat fun
tbh ever since clan cups got removed highscores been lackin
Failed a poll after a dev blog in 2013:
https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/content-poll---prestige
A prestige system was included in the 2024 player survey; results were never made public, but we summarized in the 2025 Player survey launch post- which did not mention them- likely indicating a poor response. (Also Reddit and Discord showed significant backlash against the inclusion of this in the 2024 player survey at the time)
ppl will be defensive to keep their maxed/completionist stats, it's just how it works
but eitherway prestige should not be a part of comp/max requirements
should be completely optional
a bigger problem may be bank & items
i get that it's such a long grind to max an account and that you don't want to do it over again, but it seems hard to really enjoy the game if you accomplish or completed everything that there is to be completed
i think a challenge mode could perhaps be fun?
something like what settled did for osrs but a bit easier than what he did, but more like a restriction-type of thing or rs with a twist. But that could also be an idea for leagues.
even if rs has created some issues for ever implementing such a system in the future and the removal of dailyscape/wfes probably makes it even harder now. For area locked challenges, a lot of the new skils aren't well suited for it
but i suppose it can be unrelated to area perhaps
maybe an official style locked challenge or an official skilling locked challenge/pure. Idk but there are probably ideas for "challenges with a twist"
temp game modes i think are probably the only way that will be receptive to any part of the rs playerbase
Depends, I got bugged down on things like comp cape and trim till I got them, after that I could log in and go bossing/ whatever else I wanted to do without the pressure of thinking I should be killing chompies. Much more enjoyable tbh.
Major new content launches help- but also just being a good game with consistent updates that help build hype.
Their honestly just arent that many MMOs to compete with.
People forget that OSRS nearly died it's first year or two; then the quality updates started.
prestige and leagues r literally same thing so this seems kinda irrel
atp
I posted something like this comment of yours on reddit and got no votes. I asked something about new hiscores for new players who make their account after th removal
but still you can buy bxp so..
its reddit lol
& prestige is not the same as an increased xp cap
starting over every 200m vs getting 10b xp just not the same at all
could make a new highscores but ur going to run into the same issue every time
if theres an xp cap
isn't leagues just much faster?
i didn't participate last year with leagues because i needed a twist and there was no twist. I like it if there's a twist. For me leagues felt too much like fresh start worlds and i think i've had that experience too many times recently
even if osrs-style leagues where you unlock area after area are harder to do, you would have to make every area i guess at some point or most of it, really because of the way a lot of rs3 skills are designed, and that you would have to be okay to miss out on some content or skills at first, especially if making weird choices for some reason.
tbh leagues to me feels like diablo 4 seasonals, endless dopamine loop w no real end goal.
I second this! Archaeology is both slow and very easily AFK'able with Grace of the Elves. Giving active Archaeology excavation rates a buff would be nice.
making the size of your backpack inventory and the distance to a bank something to consider again.
Toolbelt removal 😏

you stop that right now
deletion of divination as a skill
(or restoration of its use)
making portents matter more
*Overly fast and easy area access, outfits that are overloaded with functionality and other similar mechanics have had outsized impacts on banking loops, social play and AFK-led gameplay. *
Lol. Why would anyone in their right mind want nerfed skilling outfits? Why would anyone in their right mind want to spend more time banking?
We want to reintroduce a little bit more friction that is frustration free yet satisfying to overcome while also making the size of your backpack inventory and the distance to a bank something to consider again.
Completely braindead idea. You will never be able to make a change like this "frustration free" and inventory management is not "satisfying" in any way. No functioning adult wants to waste time on something like this. Even unemployed NEETS that spend 20 hrs a day on RS probably wouldn't like this. This needs to be scrapped completely. Whoever came up with it should be demoted tbh.
Honestly, they need to remove lodestones. They're an eyesore. We have teleport tabs, spirit trees, fairy rings, along with tons of teleport jewelry. Just get rid of lodestones.
Nah.
I think the real issue is that the meta of many skills entirely revolves around some of the outfits (Fishing, WC, Mining are the biggest offenders). That kind of sucks, especially when the outfits aren't accessible until pretty late in the game/skill, especially considering most of the highly beneficial perks are set effects that require completion of the outfits.
The curve should be flattened so that rewards that help advance the pace of the skill should happen at a more iterative pace hat makes advancement of the skills feel more statisfying.
If they start removing teleports I'm done tbh. They are a very minor cause for why the game feels dead, zones that have good xp/hr are usually not dead (see eternal magic trees, try to find an abyssal beasts world, good thieving spots...). The problem with the game feeling dead is that too much of the good xp/hr has been allocated to instances, portables, or banks.
People pretending seeing me walking from traverley to burthrope is gonna make the game feel alive, like bro who's gonna see me, there is no1 there.
You still wouldn't have to walk everywhere. And I think part of the point of the changes is to get people from just standing in one spot and gaining all their levels. Make it where players have to actually move/explore content to level up. Even without lodestones, as stated above there are still plenty of ways to teleport. Yes, some require things to be done to unlock them which again requires people to do content to unlock.
Thank you for that
Nooooooo, one of the reason's I didn't migrate to OSRS was the lack of lodestone.
When I think of a prestige system I see it as something for the player only.
Maybe a statue that gets built as you reach points or a certificate wall in POH.
I 100% do not want to feel pressured to train skills all over again but I would like the xp gained post 200m go towards something.
It should not be a pressure point to obtain. A bit like Prestige boss kills maybe?
Not linked to comp or trim 100%, insane to link it.
Anyway, it's not on the agenda anytime soon. A random wish list item.
too many servers as well
nah, good luck finding a world where vyres or abyss isn't busy
i enjoy that tho
i would rather the loot go to highest dps & the xp be equally split
& all spots be insanely packed
That sounds extremely bad
i like what i like
i dont play this game to afk so nothing about that effects me
the only impact that would have on my gameplay is the price change on my loot
when it goes up because its not being afk farmed across 200 servers
If I wanted to play OSRS I would. I don't.
Sadly there's better teleports in osrs so it's actually faster to get around there lol
Lodestones are just weird
Old school isn't the boogey man you think it is
feels weird to be saying that since it's typically the inverse
But anyways, yes, osrs does actually have quite a lot of very good and relevant teleports across the game that get used regularly
We over here also have surge and dive on top of our teleports even IF there's a minor bit of running around so uhhh
Take that however you would like
also powerbursts
acceleration
yes
The run energy is what I have the problem with in OSRS, combined with lack of banks if I forget something.
stamina pots are tradeable over there, unlike on rs3
I'm weird in that I like OSRS run energy, especially post-changes, but it wouldn't fit in rs3
And if anything, staminas on there are much more powerful
whereas I think increased relevance for teleport progression via changes to lodestones fits fine
OSRS run energy is horrible to me. Painful reminder of why I don't miss my early RS days.
For what it's worth, even when I was below 90 and even 80 agility, graceful mitigates the awful run energy drain even after it got reworked
It's nice because graceful is useful no matter what agility level you're at
Incoming feedback/thoughts/complaints I hope can get taken into account on the upcoming updates pt1:
-
taking away auras = TERRIBLE. took months and months if not years to accumulate the loyalty points to get top tier auras for gathering skills/etc. These auras make slow gathering skills marginally more efficient. They don’t offer an unfair advantage but they help speed up the process of a pretty uneventful task. They add efficiency to skilling bosses like Croesus which is already an absolutely daunting grind. Some ppl are complaining bc the hourly timer makes it a chore?? The aura resets every 3 hours for free. If you want to switch to a dif activity… you literally lose nothing. You can use a dif aura for a dif skill if you want to switch skills. Plethora of options to do. Why kill it bc some ppl complain ab some dumb things.
-
Traveling merchant removal = TERRIBLE. This doesn’t offer some kind of insane game skipping content. The menu rotates so you can’t just sit and spam any one benefit endlessly. It can take YEARS to accumulate enough to skip entire content.
-
Wildy event removal = TERRIBLE. you guys can’t be serious with this!! In terms of “community involvement” this literally encourages it. It’s super social especially in bigger worlds.
-
Portables removal = WTF. At least make it something we can make at invention machines. It offers one of the greatest “community involvement” aspects in the entire game. The benefits help wildly unprofitable skilling at least break even. I’m primarily a skiller bc I never really learned all the manual abilities for pvm so that’s my main source of gp.
Pt2:
A significant portion of the player population has aged with the game… a lot of us have full time careers, families, etc. ie i am about to be having 80+ hour work weeks with my new upcoming job. This means my amount of free time for life in general as well as gaming is severely reduced. AFK skilling is critical for me to be able to make some degree of progress in my account so when I do finally have a precious handful of hours to dedicate to enjoying my RuneScape grind, I can focus thoroughly on active gameplay (pvm/mqc tasks/non afk skilling etc). These changes are going to force me and many others in similar positions to spend those small handful of precious gameplay time on something dumb and boring AF like gathering harmonic dust at harps. Check the wiki calculators… even with bis gear for woodcutting, auras shave maybe 10-20 hours of grind off of the total time required to grind 120. It’s not an unfair advantage and doesn’t compromise the “integrity” of the game.
Frankly I feel like Jagex is being wildly inconsiderate of a significant portion of the rs population who do are NOT able to grind the game for 20-40+ hours a week under any capacity. If you guys continue moving in this direction I am honestly probably going to cancel my membership and find something else to play.
Thx for coming to my ted talk.
Do not multi-post please
Sorry wasn’t sure which thread to post it all on
"a significant portion of the player population has aged with the game... a lot of us have full tilme careers, families, etc..."
-> Didn't you go to school, were you allowed by your parents to always be on the computer when you were at home? Didn't you have friends as a kid?
At least for me, as a kid I was allowed to play on the computer all the time when I was at home, and my friends would all play Runescape together so....
And if your time is limited, how do you want to spend that time
Playing the game: do some bossing, doing a heist or two
Or spend that time doing the chorelist of dailies you have to do to then log out?
-
Auras are definitely disbalancing, you can see that in the first parts of your post. If it took months and months, if not years to accumulate loyalty points to get top tier auras, only people who has spent that kind of money get them. What I want to see are those auras earnable in game, and your loyalty points to be refunded. To be clear, we don't know what's happening with auras yet, they said they want to integrate them into casual play, but I personally don't think that buying a full year of membership to unlock auras on day 1 should give me an advantage over a player who's paying month to month
-
The Traveling Merchant is too easy to accumulate the rewards, but we definitely should have ways to get those bypasses without having to spend hours trying to hunt down a world the merchant is on
-
Wildy Events I agree (to a lesser strength), I like their existance! They are really cool social things that should be in the game.
-
Portables, I do agree portables are a reasonable thing to have made with invention- I think the issue is that if one person makes them, suddenly EVERYONE has access to them, and now the game has to balance around all players always having access to portables. I personally would remove the ability for other players to use your portables, and make them something you have to make yourself.
The reason wildy events are social and that everyone was there is because you had to be there. If you weren't there you weren't playing the game correctly.
It's for the same reason, you could say vyres and the abyss are social.
-
I agree about AFK skilling being critical, I love it, but I also agree it's too strong if AFK skilling outpaces regular skilling. I want to see both paths being available for many skills.
-
Jagex isn't being inconsiderate, at worst, they're picking their userbase. When it comes to any artform, I would rather it be tailored to a specific group of people, to make the best product possible for those people, rather than being the walmart of video games, trying to accomplish everything. That being said, I think Jagex has been tailoring to the people who play casually with quite a few updates recently- Look at the woodcutting update, the mining/smithing update, and more! This is a step back in some spots, but they even acknowledged that they want to keep AFK skilling in the game
Reminder that there are no other drop sources for the dark onyx core in the game at this time aside from the 4 special flash events
Auras
took months and months if not years to accumulate the loyalty points to get top tier auras for gathering skills/etc
Yep, it did take a long time and that's not a good thing. That's a needless barrier that I feel new players shouldn't have to experience. "I suffered so they should too" is not a great mindset to have.
Merchant
It can take YEARS to accumulate enough to skip entire content
Also true, but Jagex have the data and that's exactly what people are doing
Wildy Flash Events
It’s super social especially in bigger worlds
Also true but it also adds pressure. I've teleported away from a quest to attend an event and altho' I know they're optional, it's still not a nice feeling either way (getting forced away, or feeling like you're missing out) - many players feel that way too and there has been huge amounts of feedback from players that don't enjoy this loop.
Portables
I don't mind them as an item but their acquisition was sketchy (being almost exclusively MTX). Would not be against them being added back in some fashion, that can come later
Re. players have less time
That is true. I think reduction in chores is GOOD in this case. Imagine you have 1 hour a day. You spend 10 minutes doing the dailies. You spend 5 minutes doing your vis wax, travelling around to get your tokkul and pineapples and whatever else. You spend 5 minutes doing a flash event. 5 minutes crafting your daily runes with wicked hood, and suddenly half your play time is gone. That feels bad. Wouldn't you rather use ALL of that time doing what you want rather than feeling the need to do other stuff?
a significant portion of the rs population who do are NOT able to grind the game for 20-40+ hours a week under any capacity.
Dailies ARE a grind too that many people don't enjoy. Feedback from surveys and such support that.
Jagex wanting to get rid of AFK skilling is fake news promoted by some on reddit or youtubers, they nerf one method -> people respond: jagex wants to get rid of afk'ing.
^
^^
I mean- Wildy Events are cooperative with dozens to hundreds of people... Vyres and Abyss are competetive and you want to avoid other players. That's pretty much the opposite of social.
i know of that distinction but people will be at activities that are good to progress their account and in the current version of rs3 that was wildy flash events.
make something else good to do and that's where the people will go towards.
I think something very important to remember is: removal of dailies = less exp for now but we've only seen the early game rebalance. A LOT of the top-tier exp rates and such that will compete with dailies are late-game thing which will be addressed in the mid- and late-game rebalances later in the year. There's a lot of opportunity before then to provide feedback on the daily-less pain points so they can be addressed. ^^
Good point ttaM, that pressure isn't something I considered- I wonder if there's a way to keep the popularity of events like this without keeping that feeling of it being mandatory to go when it happens... I can't think of any way to bridge those two, which is a massive shame.
exactly
I want things like that to exist, where people are encouraged to work together to do an event
i wish Croessus was a bit more popular?
Croessus' issue is it's difficult x3
skilling bosses could be the way to go
I love Croessus but man, I've tried teaching that one and people get upset fast
I did 1 Croesus kill in a leagues mass and I didn't understand anything that was going on but it was fun weird chaos XD
I want to learn it
but not this week, next week
I mean- I'm on a CGIM kick now, that's my only members account
ah fair, no problem
Duh. But college dif story lol. All I’m sayin is the depth of responsibilities in most ppls lives is substantially greater now
4? Thought it was just tree, kbd, and the mining star
big wyrmie boi too
Croe is super doable once you get the mechs down. Not nearly as complex as other pvm.
Oh yeah lol fair
Ehhh. I never went excessive on dailies or wildy events. If I wasn’t busy w something else and had the time id do it. Or if the daily was a skill i wanted id do it. Never viewed it as a mandatory part of my gameplay time
OK to be fair yeah I’ll say like the afk thieving thing was def a bit much. AFK skilling should absolutely not be faster than active skilling I completely agree there and am very ok with that. I afked 120 fletch from 100 via mk5 bows and it took me almost 4months of daily afking lol
Whirlpooldnd fc… I find m in like minutes not hours lol
Ahhh I remember spending a good 2 hours one time 'cause no one was online
a lot of people feel that way.
and it isn't a fun interaction with the game (if yhou feel that way), it is definitely meta to do them. Some people may not care about meta but the meta definitely involved dailyscape (the daily challenges) and doing the wildies (every hour, or at very least the dark onyx core ones)
yea that fc definitely helps. At less active times, i remember having done it once, didn't take 2 hours but def took me 10-20 mins i suppose.
I disagree though that it doesn't offer ingame skipping content. If that wasn't the case we wouldn't end up buying the stuff. The fact that it can take years is problematic because it means you cannot afford to forget about it or not buy from merchant. It becomes a mandatory part of dailyscape
(most stuff ig doesn't need years though i think but i may be forgetting some stuff)
$The problem and the blog post of today mentioned is that some of the stuff we skip just isn't fun to do and they plan on addressing that.
Yeesh, finally read this update news and they seem to want to destroy any reason for people to consistently log in and play. Screwing with challenges, outfit headwear, flash events, divine skilling. Just grind away for terrible xp and like it. It's exactly what I feared when they first started sounding off about "integrity".
👋
at least use a less cliche bait
I have more of a vested interest in the game than all the people who benefitted from these allegedly unfair mechanics and lamps/stars pulling up the ladder behind them
Nah I just quit for years until they started fixing things
likewise i came back after they began removing TH and started the road to restoration. Even with most of my stats 99+, i still have more than enough to do even beyond dailies.
Its more like all the players without any free time wanting to ruin the game by making everything way to easy to obtain
likewise for me
yea that isn't a problem either
honestly that's the last problem with runescape, like you're never done with this game, basically every other game you can finish before this one (it's that probably that some people have a problem with), but i think people also need to change their mentality if they have little time, and don't have goals like 200m if they don't have time to do it.
I plan on coming back later in the year (probs once mid-game balance has been done). I tried returning during xmas of 2024 and quit before the new year. Just glad to see them finally getting rid of all the cancerous systems. I am still surprised they are actually going ahead with it 😄
Nobody wants to ruin the reason to log in.
The game is why you're supposed to want to log in. Trying to incentivise people to make it a habit to log in every day because otherwise they miss out on OP rewards is a bad design ethos that should stay out of games
doing it makes games feel like chores for me
if I need a routine, I've got farms, I've got herb patches, I've got ports, I'm getting birdhouses
If the only reason people have to log in are OP dailies, then they've warped how you play and interact with the game so much that clearly they need to go
I've got various other stuff I can engage with
I used to do an hour or two of Runespan every day
back when I was getting the pouch/outfit
if I didn't have pouch protector I'd probably still be regularly doing an hour or two of runespan
but runespan isn't dailyscape
I don't HAVE to do it that way
I did it that way because runespan is kinda boring
so it's fine for a bit of afkish time but eventually I wanna do something else
I'm also one of the people who doesn't have a lot of free time. That's why there was an incentive to log in versus times when I can spend a day playing. They're not even revamping incentives, but getting rid of them altogether. Idk if this is the only game people play, but for me, I will spend time on something else if there's no reason for me to devote it to this.
Theres plenty of reasons to devote time to the game. Levelling skills / doing quests / making money and you name it. You're just no longer getting insane amounts of free xp for doing nearly nothing
if I do five minutes a day of something in RS
I've still done five minutes of progress
if I've done those five minutes as daily challenges, I have made more than five minutes of progress yes
I'm sure there are metas that were unfair, but they're nerfing the whole xp system to xp rates that are the F2P equivalent of P2W games. Convenient now that the easiest way to get bonus xp is real world money 👀
Source?
Sometimes balancing stuff requires nerfing things. Sometimes it requires buffs
Considering jagex has said THREE times now that that is not the case
Sometimes bad thigns needed to be ripped out and you jsut have to wait a bit longer untill jagex has abetter idea on how to "fix" the things they previously hid beneath a bandaid
yeah it's specific/targeted nerfs with buffs to target specific pain points left by the nerfs
Well if a company says something...
but yeah, RS has long been a notoriously long-form/grindy game; tough to sign up to play a grindy game then complain about it being grindy to my mind
Agility early game got XP rates adjusted
so it's not JUST talk
Undoubtedly there are skills that need to be rebalanced; I'm not against that at all. Thought I did find it funny they single out silverhawks because I find that xp a pittance, so maybe people play differently than I do
When the Gower brothers first created RS, they never actually thought people would reach 99 in the skills. The game was born to be an grindy, glorified chatroom.
I mean they're
- buffing agility
- buffing several hunter methods
- buffing divination xp
- buffing pyramid plunder and old thieving chests
- reducing catch rate across the board on pickpocketing targets + reducing stun timer
Are you saying it's not grindy now?
There are some nerfs but those target very strong outliers
I spent many of my childhood hours sat on a PC playing RS on a web browser instead of being outdoors haha
The past "we didn't know people would go for 99" is kinda the same as "we didn't know people would go for 200M (or beyond)" nowadays.
they are INCREASING base catch rates on every pickpocket target
actually
they are reducing afkability at specifically 100% catch rate
Both are true
but for everyone else pickpocketing is just getting buffed
there is a mechanic that will slowly decline
but they're reducing catch rate across the board
HAM members for example will have the catch rate you only obtain at mid 50s at level 16 for example
(and you still gain reduced catch rate from levelling)
every single thieving target will by default have a lower chance of being caught
sorry for the misunderstanding
Not only has rs been historically known to be a grind-centric game, other peoples' lack of time management isn't our problem. Reminder that the people who claim to have all these irl responsibilities and no time to play falls flat since osrs players also have the same irl duties and they still squeeze in plenty of time to play
I play both, so I speak from experience
OSRS and old rs were even grindier and the solution was just "play what you can and feel like and have progression reflect that"
We don't need to rush people to the endgame
There's a reason I don't play OSRS, so stop making this into that
we just need to make it feel worthwhile to stay at every point in the journey
Nobody is except you
We're not trying to make it into OSRS at all, its just a point fo comparison
Can clearly tell you never have played osrs since you parrot that comment too
We don't need catch-up mechanics. We just need a worthwhile game to play
^
Parrot being the only one saying it
If people were really concerned, why don't they just do a wipe? That way all the people who view their achievements as tainted can start fresh and with a clean slate?
speed of xp isn't a super-important diff between RS3 and OSRS imo
based
THE GREAT RESET
since its just you lol
because I have nearly 15 years of progression much of which was not done with micro transactions
My point of reference isn't even about the speed of the game
and I'm kinda on the low end
I've got 18 years of progression that wasn't done with microtransactions, so
We don't need daily systems that undermine the normal progression systems and gameplay loop
The point is that they still squeeze in plenty of time despite having the same irl duties
everyone who cared that much about integrity and that little about the time they've spent already moved to OSRS when it launched
What? The people who are complaining about not having time are the ones who want these things removed
I was responding to the other guy
I thought the people who have no time liked it because it helps fit in their lives?
“oh no a mmorpg is grindy”
No one's complaining about that. It's still a slog even with the perks, and I did a lot of my levelling before some of the redesigns made them easier
Like what the person above said, I'd like it to feel like you get your efforts-worth
I feel like we all would
but the disparity here is whether logging in and doing some dailies for 10 minutes' amount of effort is more than playing for 10 minutes after having been logged in for an hour
Yeah. And that's why dailies and that kind of stuff need to be yeeted out the window
And if theres no window to throw them out of we create a hole in the wall to do so
and personally I think ten minutes should be ten minutes - even among people who have less time to play, some might have 10 minutes a day and others might have an hour on Sundays only and there's no reason why the former should be in a stronger person than the latter
Then we disagree and that's where I landed above, because I think that creates a disincentive for people to regularly play
if dailys are the only reason you play, you prolly shouldnt play lol
I'm not inherently opposed to a weekly structure, because at times my work has been not conducive to it, but there should be something.
We should replace dailies and move them to Pest Control
The challenges were nice, too, because they incentivize you to do a task. I'm sure it helped me train up skills I was otherwise not keen to spend time on. But you log in and it's like oh, I guess I'll RuneSpan for a bit
it's okay if people take a break sometimes, many players do, what you want to avoid doing is letting them make a permanent break
some players switch between osrs and rs3 too
i imagine thats likely a huge overlap of playerbases even, and it makes strategically sense why they want to make the game a bit more appealing to an osrs player or someone who grew up with the game before which is many of us... Obviously, it doesn't mean they want to make this osrs 2.0 because thats just giving up the reason for its existence, but at its core it should still be runescape and i honestly think the game itself did move away too much from that before, that's why there's a road to restoration & integrity and why it is needed.
(obv there are many osrs players that no matter what will never touch this game), but it's where a portion of potential returning players is located.
i usually only play rs3 while i wait for other mmo's to release then i return during the first seasonal of other mmo.
seasonals r ass imo
yea i mean sometimes you have to switch and have some variation, there's nothing wrong about that.
I think rs3 may in future also have more seasonals like leagues
or do you mean "season passes"/"seasons" in other games?
tbh i kinda dislike seasons in most games yeah. I actually think leagues is way betetr than most how games design "seasons". But a lot of games just have doubled down on p2w/mtx. In my experience the more succesful a game is, the more likely it is they switch to a season model and if very succesful they switch to f2p but cosmetics and in game cash you can buy (so p2w) or a gacha model. Or a model with endless amount of dlcs like the sims or paradox interactive games for the history buffs.
But for such a model you need to have a playerbase that thrives on that and that'll swallow that as well. Because OSRS is big enough but given the origin if OSRS switched to such a model, they would scare away their playerbase most likely.
And the "daily model" i've seen in a lot of games also, sometimes just loggin in and doing something for 30 secs, other games also a chorelist. I never like it.
they tend to meld together aftr a while
it always starts with seasonals similar to leagues that turn into battle pass
the worst thing is that they think or pretend it is exciting content often
diablo 4 does it
its literally the same game on a loop but they just slightly increase boss hp / dps output each time
like the enrage mechanic?
xdxd
tbf i don't really play many other mmorpgs. I think runescape is the only one i play so i'm less familiar with those.
I have only played elder scrolls skyrim a bit which i really liked (but thats sp)
i am like 5-20k hour deep in pretty much every mmo except gw2/final fantasy
and bloodborne but it was too hard for me, i would have to try it again (some soulsborne games, but rn the whole market is flooded with soulsborne games). And it's pretty hard, need to invest time in it to get better in it and i don't have the attention span for that.
it is interesting watching them all try to market the game the same way while pretending to be different from others
I tend to play different genres usually, rs3 is just really kind of an exception.
Agreed. I enjoy my time here far more than OSRS
I play more strategy games usually (history or space) or simulation games, or something like gta or rdr (although not gta online...)
the space ones r fun
sad the space engineers ai mod broke
yh i just never found ignoring PvP to release high hp boss followed by higher dps drops to be good for long term health
always felt like PvP forced some kind of balance
i kinda wanna try out osrs a bit more, but probably only for zeah and sailing (and whatever i want to do, but i don't want to sweat in that game), just at my own pace doing some content that isn't in rs3
for most fantasy rpgs i just don't know what they are really
i personally would rather have current PvM with t80 as bis but i could see why many people would dislike that
elder scrolls i kinda like
a soulsborne game i should try again (although an OG and not a clone)
bg3, diablo, divinity original sin, i just don't know what all of these are and if they're for me, idk
all i know is that there's like no game like this (rs3)
eso was fun until they changed the gear
i tried black desert for like an hour and it just sucked, i didn't know what to do, i didn't like it, i think black desert was often named as kinda similar to this?
new eso is like what the new cb update will be like for current pvp
eso felt so weird and not for me, idk what went wrong there
i tried it like 5 yrs ago
it felt not challenging at all and the graphics not great.
I also didn't like that you basically if you don't buy a new dlc or expansion pack that your whole game is outdated
just a mess
xd
very bad UI imo
i wasnt big on eso
think i only have 600 hr on that 1
it was one of my least liked
best experience so far was Archeage when the BIS gear was hasla/gha which is basically barrows gear equivalent
the problem i have with many fantasy games is that it feels their world is limited and runescapes advantage is the game has had 25 years of updates, we have all kinds of monsters you can imagine this game
& tera
and when i play a different fantasy game, 90% of these mobs would be absent
hogwarts legacy for instance maybe has like 3-4 types of enemies
its like you would play runescape, and there would only be demons & ghost and you remove everyone else
and i really like the undead aspects of rs3, i really like undead fantasy (ghost, vampyres, stuff like that). So Morytania is a heaven for me. And havenhythe & especially vampyrium to be really cool updates for me
i liked rs3 when all the mobs aggro'd me
like they recently made it so more things aggro
so many different npcs but so many just stare at u and walk in circles
rs3 has all those factions and areas with their mobs
only disadvantage of rs3 is that the world can kinda feel small because most of the world was designed in early 2000s, and like today (esp with draw distance being so different) you can kinda notice that the world isn't that big.
and i like world with vast maps, even if those can feel a bit empty though depending on what game it is, bigger isn't always "bigger".
it's about finding the right balance.
like the starter areas are too cluttered, but i mean thats just an artefact of these areas being designed in the early 2000s with mroe limited technology, like today the dig sites & anachronia, menaphos, most new areas are actually well designed
what bothers me most though is the squareness of some landmasses and artificial shapes of some island esp. fremennik isles & some minigame islands. And that karamja & crandor are that close too asgarnia & kandarin. I wish they increased the ocean distance a little more. It's not a big issue, but it'll be if they ever decided to introduce sailing as a skill, although i suppose it won't happen and that it'll be an osrs-exclusive thing.
rs3 has some goofiness (and osrs) that makes it fun like stuff like being able to safespot/finding safespots
no other game has that
rs3 really rewards also understanding boss mechanics and being able to predict their movement, attack behaviour, memorizing that, patterns etc.
i think a lot of mmo's r like this as well but they start to pick up the hack n slash dps
and i feel like that steers away from that whole concept
esp when u can just 1tic a boss, tp out & come back in w something like the hub
I don't know why we don't have Sailing. The beta was amazingly well received (Gower Quest spoiler)
I honestly think sailing would probably be something players appreciate because it is the closest one would get to something like archaeology being in the game with all the exploration.
The problem is that ports and arc probably killed sailing in rs3
mayube integrate ports with sailing and make it an elite skill 💀
requiring lvl 90 in: agility, construction, cooking, divination, dungeoneering, fishing, herblore, hunter, prayer, prayer, runecrafting, slayer or thieving. Then make ports be like what arch research is to archaeology but for sailing.
sailing w pirating 🥴
pirates could indeed be a big part of a sailing skill
I think we may one day get it, but probably 2030s, i don't think they'll try copy OSRS too soon on that and rs3 is working on vampyrium and next skill is likely more related to that.
we will probably know more if we know if they want to rework ports or phase it out or if it's going to be ignored for the time being.
with the latter 2 options making a future sailing skill more likely
a rework would indicate sailing is unlikely
Most people are saying the next skill is guna be related to stars and space
why?
Both the star sprite quest and various other things point to it being astromancy.
It would fit very well within the lore of the game and could bring some intresting mechanics
Just fits the vibe of recent updates we've had, I get it too
Necromancy was kinda out of nowhere as well though
would astromancy be a combat skill?
ngl sounds like it would be a skill that supports combat in a very mtx way
Not combat. Since we got necro recently.
Its mostly spectulation since allwe know is a new skill is in the works.
you summons planets to fight for you
you gather stardust to empower constellations for passive effects to make it easier to fight aeris, glacia, terr- wait wrong game.
more like u align with a star giving u some form of rune enchantment buff that costs gold/some form of enchantment gambling
we seem to like mtx here
Im thinking its going to be some sort of exploration based support skill.
I haven't really given any thoughts to what a new skill could be but space stuff sounds cool. I kinda like the more grounded, low stakes vibe that most of RS has though and idk if space exploration super fits that.
Enchantment gambling? I think you've just explained invention which I personally don't like the idea of especially when a roll can cost millions 😅 I know some people like that excitement (just look at how popular Duel Arena was) but I didn't really vibe with it.
funny to me they somehow convinced an entire community that perk gacha was good for the economy
World gate revisit when D:
We’re not even using it for Vampyrium, it’s going to be a portal in eastern Havenhythe
That was my confusion that people called TH gambling for some reason but enjoy the other probability based aspects integral to the game. 🤷
it's like how when I go and drop £20k on red and spend the winnings on hookers and blow, that's gambling, but when I play cluedo with my grandma and the winner is determined in part by dice rolls, that's not
(though I don't think there's much use in arguing semantics about what is and isn't gambling; but there's plainly a difference in type between situations where you're spending money to obtain an rng-dependent outcome and where you're not)
Is your argument there about being able to buy keys? Because I saw that a lot and was confused since I never spent a cent on it (since it seemed not a good value for money but to each his own)
I've always been stunned by the amount people will spend on MMOs
I've never spent money on a gacha game, that doesn't mean the gacha games aren't gambling
So if, say, the TH "prize" was a small xp lamp or something fixed like that, it would still have annoyed the people against those but it wouldn't have incurred the "gambling" criticism, correct?
That's an interesting thought experiment because I'm not sure where I would delineate the two.
if TH was solely a free system without any system of paying for keys I don't think people would've called it gambling, no
teleports = good. lodestones = bad
you dont spend real money on perks tho
and perks arent too bad rng wise unless you are going for bis
sailing is a good one for that, osrs has proven that
its just i don't think rs3 will do that just after osrs has done it, and ports/arc make sailing a bit more complicated
let me sail from the player owned port lol
I don't understand jagex sometimes, they keep trying to affirm that what players want is important but keep doing things like this
like how many years has it been since an actual player suggestion has made it into the game bar bug-report-eque or small ninja qol
literally nobody asked for these weird graphic changes, the only people aggrieved seem like the type to say everything should fit in the square hole
People have absolutely been asking for elite skilling outfits graphics changes
"its distracting, its non-human, it isn't fitting well into the stylistic ruleset" literally inconsequential compared to engine updates and widespread compatability fixes for glaring memory issues
Its been consistent and pretty loud
I've no idea why anyone would be surprised, it was the easiest guess for what would be in todays blog
point to the thread where this army of people asking is
The art team are different to the engine team...
Shark outfit was specifically in the video in november
Sure, which platform? Can I go grab one of the many reddit threads? We had a cosmetic thread on here, and its been a common topic in many channels in this discord too.
We had several surveys last year on this topic
Jagex made it clear that elite skilling outfit had been taken note of back during last years experiments
its a problem if they are seriously reading reddit
And here
and every platform really
and the surveys that were linked ingame
I mean the blogpost has a decent like to dislike ratio up in the feed
people will upvote new things even if they aren't what they wanted
its like getting a half empty wrapper of saltines for christmas or nothing...?
Here is screenshot from thread we had on this discord about feedback
they were "on the radar" because of it being a loud complaint
loudest around cosmetic free worlds times when people tried playing without any cosmetics
one of the things I tend to use cosmetics for most often
is NOT having to look at Elite Div/RC/Fish outfits
sometimes the fish outfit doesn't feel that bad...
...then my character kneels down to stick their head in the water and ugggggggg
Golem is just boring
Nature's Sentinel I don't care about one way or the other
I relatively recently put together Master Camo and... it's deeply whatever?
I think golem and sentinel are passable but I would rather keep them than get shitty recolors
It's not a super high priority change so wait until you're ready or have a community redesign
there's a difference?
better tell my grandma
the shitty recolours r so bad
dollar store blood dyes
Yeah, they're worse than just keeping what we have
I think every single gif I want to post in response to that would get me immediately banned
I’d tend to disagree, but only because being intentional about theming is something I think will benefit the game. How they go about it is another question, and rushing content when it isn’t super urgent is a valid criticism, if waiting longer could result in more creative or new outfits
lmao
master camo is neat, however, it doesnt fit with any of the skillcapes.
you have this near invisible thieving outfit, and then boom here is a solid 99/120/ardy cape 4
