#Cosmetic toggle is too heavy-handed

I hope a personal blacklist of items can be accomodated via savable local text file.

As a player, I should reserve the right to present myself properly to others (which includes the comp cape and some cool keepsakes, which I dont believe is offensive and annoying). I know nobody likes the annoying obvious shit so the toggle is there, but I would like a compromise in terms of a player customisable black list.

It would be more offensive and lame to present myself as a rasial clone then some fine clothes, you get my drift?

I think one player overriding another player's off-toggle kind of defeats the purpose of an off toggle

Outside of the fact that the mods put a lot of thought into the default looks, players aren't, realistically, entitled to flaunt their wealth and achievements to others. Do you attire your character for your own satisfaction or to effectively rub it into other players' faces that you have something they don't?

this is the same kinda reasoning that people use that play loud music in a library

Honestly the toggle should be able to add Ignore specific Cosmetic list.
this all or nothing is really terrible.
I'd personally only like to remove specific cosmetics (example: All wings slot) from my personal view.

I love cosmetics and I use a very obnoxious particle flavored neon costume, but if someone doesn't want to see your junk then you shouldn't force them to. Personally, I'm really not looking at others anyways.

I've hated obnoxious cosmetics and I'd disable it over getting my optic nerves violated.

Here's a thing though that you may consider to add to your proposition: show cosmetics only on friends.

I wish the animation toggle was split up a bit more. I don’t mind most animations but do want to walk animations and (some) rest animations.

And like i ask every one that's against the toggle. How would you ever know that i can't see your cosmetics?

A few items such as comp/max capes should definitly be excluded from the list.
But for the most part you should be able to hide whatever cosmetics on other players you want.

This is just the start so im okay with this baseline
More toggle settings will be coming in the future so hopefully they will let us be a bit more detailed with whats blocked and not.
Like spesific slots or only hiding non keepsaked items.

I am aware of the suggestion; I am not in support of the suggestion; but simply added my two sense of how the current system is handled.

you cant know if someone sees you as you intend or if cosmetics are off...

#

thats what hes asking

neon gulch
# sharp zinc But what about my rights as a player to not have to see peoples cosmetics if i ...

I would suggest to you that other players have a visual identity that they would like to present to you, for example, I would prefer you to see me wearing a partyhat instead of a rasial crown. I would think the game is better off when players are freer to present themselves a little better than the default rasial clothes they are forced to wear. And you have the right to not ever see 'jas hands' by adding it to your personal no-list.

neon gulch
# crystal pasture you cant know if someone sees you as you intend or if cosmetics are off...

My idea is, the baseline expectation is that most players would be able to see most of my stuff as-is, unless they deliberately decided never to see certain items. I do not find the current situation satisfactory as some people who toggle off do not get to appreciate what others may have decided to wear. I would not toggle off right now because I enjoy the game better when I can see what visually aesthetic items other players may have elected to wear over their skilling outfit. But I understand the original reasoning for the toggle, because some items are just bad. In fact, this exclusion list would block some items, even if they were worn as actual equipment, something the toggle cannot work on at the moment.

a LOT of people want it fully off. Jagex already made a compromise by not letting it impact summons currently.
asking for more for the sake of personal vanity is not it imo

#

you can choose to turn it off or on, thats all there is to it. if you like cosmetics, youll have it on. if you dont, you wont

#

fyi, im someone who is against the toggle.

#

I just hate forcing people to see or do things because of personal opinions about my own character

#

so I have to pick the inbetween because im not going to be selfish enough to demand people look at me (general statement not an accusation)

#

I think what bothers me the most about this post is the statement "reserve the right to present my self properly to others" not necessarily the idea that you want the ability to have some cosmetics shown if someone has a toggle to allow that

neon gulch
#

Based on the discussion so far, believe a partial exclusion list in addition to the toggle makes the game better off. Essentially those who toggle it are literally adding all items to the block list.

crystal pasture
#

to ask it, even with you listing stuff you want as an exclusioned item, if I toggle "turn off cosmetics" should I see your item, yes or no?

neon gulch
crystal pasture
#

this implies I would have to blacklist items to not see it

#

not you adding stuff you want seen

#

yes?

neon gulch
#

The black list is your personal list of items you never want to see. I'm not suggesting a list where I write down what must be shown to all players. I reread my original post it does come off that way despite me using the word black list, because I was explaining how to reach a situation where you can expect most people would see your character as presented.

crystal pasture
#

so, to expand upon why thats an issue

#

the thousands of items would have to be blacklisted

#

dev time alone makes that a nightmare, it only negatively impacts the person who hates cosmetics and it only serves to irritate people

#

so ig my question is this, why should jagex consider something so excessively one sided when theres something that already serves a full block process?

neon gulch
#

Then if you're gonna add so many items, as mentioned I'm willing to keep the original toggle. Also, a player local list of exclusion seems like a worthwhile engine work thing to explore

crystal pasture
#

a local list would probably work better in reference to your wants/needs

#

but for me, its gotta have a toggle to allow it on either end

I think the default for customizations ought to be "off" - currently I'm even disabling the majority of the armor and just having set the default outfit (the real default outfit, the one that comes with character creation) because every time I change armor or weapons that changes how my character looks, which is not something I necessarily want

to point at an example, I really like the off-duty attire outfits, because for me it's a character-first design, not a combat-first design, like a lot of outfits are (or seasonal ones)

#

if someone wants to see customizations, then that ought to be opt-in, not opt-out

spare garnet
#

Actually, because Jagex is a business, this all-off customization harms their keepsake key model. Keepsaked items should not be filtered. Now if someone wants an ALL out filter including keepsakes keys, they can pay for the unlock.

Or the way it is fine. Some people do not care your about grandmaster auras or phats. You wouldn't know and they wouldn't tell you. Everyone's happy.

Personally, though, I enjoy looking at wacky zombie and witch characters rather than comp capes everywhere.

Personally I'm glad of the option to just toggle it all off. Cosmetic overrides are bad per se. However, I don't object to more individual customisation

shy burrow
merry bramble

it's reflective of shared experience; a common grind

I value that

shy burrow

I think things that don't break the immersion of the game is fine from my perspective; but the everyone in the same thing i don't know that is a bit much for me.

merry bramble
#

I don't give a damn about expressing individuality or w/e, I skip over character customisation in every game I play

shy burrow
#

lets be realistic character customization is pretty terrible; its overriden anyhow
