#Penalty for leaving during bloodwood wilderness flash event

During the third stage of the event, 60-80% of players leave immediately after hitting the personal goal. The other day I did the event with 12 people total and when 3rd stage hit, 10 of them left. Needless to say we failed and nobody got their rewards. The system is way too lax on the requirements.

  1. Either set it so hitting personal contributuion by all players = event complete
  2. Or punish players that teleport out by taking away their stage 3 reward.

this isn't an issue for every single other event, where players stay to finish it (because they're afk enough usually)

  1. Either set it so hitting personal contributuion by all players = event complete
If you just lower the req for event to complete and change nothing else, this is kind of not great because then event would end before the slower people who are currently able to complete the event finish their personal contributions.

Especially problematic at combat events where the difference between fastest and slowest people can be literally an order of magnitude.

  1. Or punish players that teleport out by taking away their stage 3 reward.

punishing people for playing optimally is nonsense

Better ideas might be redesigning rewards so that its not optimal to leave early (e.g. give more rewards for more contribution)

Or perhaps make it so that meeting the individual cap is sufficient to get rewards regardless of what other people do, but that removes a bit of the group aspect that it was designed to have, idk.

this is an issue of adverse incentives and it applies to all flash events not just tree. if you have a minimum bar that gets you the full reward, there isn't much incentive to do more

Honestly I'd just make it so you have to be in the area to gain rewards. Solves the issues naturally because if people have to stick around they may as well contribute to finish it quicker, and I already think it makes no sense that you can teleport away from it and still get the rewards in the first place.

#

If people are too keen on not waiting 30s after it finishes, just add an option to talk to the npc/add npc to talk to to events without them, that lets you claim manually earlier than the 30s wait

I would assume the reason they did such things is to avoid problems in case people crash and such. I would assume. I think even if the group completes it but you don't hit your personal goal, you don't get anything either. Tbh, imo, it might just be best for people to get rewarded individually after they meet their personal goal, like what PDJ has said.

Easy, make the tree a lootable object at end for reward bag, that will solve people leaving early.

Make it so the tree has a fill up bar instead of a timer so people who have their personal completed can speed it up by still contributing. Fill up bar can be 2-4x personal contribution X number of people at event to make sure people have enough time

Yeah honestly it's supposed to be a bit of a community get together effort and to some degree it is but would be more so if there was either incentive or requirement to stick around for rewards.

Going the way of lowering total required to compensate for people that TP away is kind of anti-MMO spirit - which, also is kind of fair enough. RuneScape is the single player MMO but still. I'd rather see attempts at reinforcing community challenges than diminish them and I can't think of anything similar in any game ever that I've played where you're legit allowed to just dip out and do whatever before whatever the event finishes..
It does also feel like a bit of a scummy move in general and shouldn't be encouraged imo, for the sake of promoting more community interactions.

as for people sticking around, there are also those that just afk, forcing the remaining players do all the legwork

#

the reason why people don't stick around is because only the 3rd stage is click intensive. 1st and 2nd stage are extremely afk and nobody has an issue doing them

Make sense to have sn i activity meter once you start if you're inactive for more than 10 seconds, you lose reward for that phase. Not perfect but makes sure they're contributing something the whole time even if just a couple

just remove the events and implement their rewards into wilderness content. the reward values are garbage anyways and getting a core is not likely because they are stupidly rare. they also create fomo which is something that runescape needs a lot less of.

Yeah tbh; 10 seconds sounds punishing, but realistically its not as bad as it sounds.

tbh Contribution % should of been the more idealistic route for this; and encouraged players to contribute consistently until complete; reward should of been split between the players based on contribution in % they contributed (and realistically should of applied at all events)

It's not a penalty to just do the event fir a few extra minutes. None of the wildy events last long i don't get why people are crying sbout not being able to stand and do nothing

system that tracks inactivity like with souls wars?

Yep

tbh I don't think this really addresses the issue and targets a specific group of players unnecessarily
