I don't have an issue with an area buff

#

but it should be tied to skilling guilds

#

Cooking Guild, Crafting Guild etc

#

Not something you can slap down wherever

worldly spindle
#

I disagree, cuz those have skill limits. They're low, but they'd still gate a lot of the social aspect for new players.

rich sleet
#

Like the conversations i've had doing starbloom crafting in the crafting guild were infinetly better then whatever w84 does

#

Because there absolutely is somethign as to many players in the same place

ionic prism
#

32 cooking and 40 crafting are incredibly minor thresholds

#

and if they're truly that limiting, we could just remove the level req

#

far preferable to keeping portables as is

worldly spindle
#

My point is that if someone is new to the game, those can seem like daunting numbers. Especially since it effectively gatekeeps socialization.

rich sleet
#

Best way to retain new players is to block them out of w84 anyways. The things that happen there are traumatising

ionic prism
#

I think if you're a new player, you'd not really learn that portables exist prior to getitng 32 cooking anyways

worldly spindle
#

Yeah, w84 is a cesspit, but it can be fun to drop the occasional "this comment is slightly politically charged" type of thing, and watch chat explode.

thin magnet
#

I kinda think a +production bonus was never properly balanced. Like, they didn't realize that a portable well could be used in multiple steps in the potion production process

ionic prism
#

them both having +xp AND +material saving

#

probably is a bit much

rich sleet
#

w84 also has the problem of only being able to see half the chat from people on exactly your own tile

ionic prism
#

in particular when both figures are pretty significant

rich sleet
#

Anyone on the tile next to you jsut gets blocked out and you can't see it anyways

One of the most profitable herblore money making methods on the wiki is aggression potions. (I have not checked the real prices on the ge, so I'll use the nominal prices)
It's +21.3m per hour with all boosts, but goes to 8.6m per hour without wells and brooch, and 1.8m without wells, brooch and modified botanist mask
https://runescape.wiki/w/Money_making_guide/Making_aggression_potions

twilit pendant
#

the economy will adjust if some of that stuff gets removed

ionic prism
#

How will supplies in the community change?

#

Will aggro pots go up or down in demand without combat dummies?

#

and so on

granite adder
#

I know its not in the normal style but why not give passive agility XP with every step we take in-game .. take the grind out of it and reward in-game time instead.

#

You make a valid point .. and I agree to some extent.

thin magnet
granite adder
#

I guess if I summarize what I've been trying to say. I support the removal of MTX! It was never good for the long term health of the game. HOWEVER you have to understand that as the customer and in my case I've been a customer for over 20 years it is blatantly unfair to simply take from me what I legitimately obtained via gameplay that you made and I paid for. Yes fix the main issue remove MTX and remove from sale the items that came with it BUT you need to be careful how you deal with the product of that mistake. Portables, Proteins and all and any form of direct XP should GO and I'd be happy with a 60 day window to use up any we have. Any Items that are available in-game should be just that only available via gameplay and if they don't fit into your long term integrity blueprint then consider a graphical rework first before possible removal. I mean who really wants to look like a burnt shark while fishing? If items have a tradable MTX obtained version and an in-game version just remove the tradable MTX version via conversion to the non-tradable then we at least get to use them. If you don't you open up the argument that you are not penalizing those that used lamps and stars and isn't that the main focus here. In regards to Lucky items, again you shouldn't penalize me for playing your game the way you gave it to me.

#

Lucky items should never have had stats! The only fair way to sort this is make them all cosmetic and while your at it clean up the Diango Storage as there are loads of items that should be cosmetic. Then give us a toggle to turn off cosmetics problem solved! If you remove items without a fair offset, you are penalizing those that played the game and rewarding those that chose the fast path with MTX XP via Lamps and Stars. You cant do anything about the later, but you can make the removal process of items as fair as possible. Bottom line, I trust the process and know you will do what's right nad best for the game!

#

Just remember, this is just my opinion. Its a little like cosmetics, you may not like the outfit I chose but at least support my right to be me! In doing so you get to be you and I support your right to be you in any form you wish. Agree, Disagree both are right!

ionic prism
#

you're getting a 400 day window to use up all you have

#

date for removal is 1st of january 2027 for mtx items

#

(th itself will be removed before this. within a couple of months from now)

granite adder
#

Sure .. and how long do you think it takes to re-code almost every part of the existing game. Its going to take that long so thanks for the window that isint a window its a open door.

#

Its a HUGE undertaking, and there are soo many permeations. I don't envy the task at hand.

#

I have quite a lot of portables .. I don't use them so I would be happy to donate them to a well of integrity with compensation being a small donation to a good charity?

#

I've Just noticed something .. Magic Notepaper is on the Remove from sale list but not on the Remove from game list! If giving us a year to use what we hold is your suggested fix then you might want to consider the effect on the G E price of that item as your going to effect the economy of that item in doing so. Hey someone's going to make bank though 😛

#

Actually .. maybe you have already considered this and you are going to convert them to the non-tradable version. Thats why thier not on the remove list!

rich sleet
#

Or they'll just do nothing from it

#

If they were going to convert them they would have been on the "deleted from the game" list

granite adder
#

You don't need to remove what's not there .. Remove from sale and convert and there are none left.

hollow vault
#

Almost every item on the "remove list" is significantly down in price anyway

granite adder
#

lol .. yer for now

rich sleet
#

idk what the prices of springs / notepapers were but they are above the ge price atlleast

granite adder
#

We have DXP to come and a year to use em

rich sleet
#

So doesn't feel like they are significantly down

hollow vault
#

3 DXP's left I guess, assuming they can be used in the next 2

hollow vault
#

Yes, they cut down on the DXP's a year from 4 to 2.

#

And will be replaced by other events

rich sleet
#

Nothign confirmed about that though right. Just something they are considering

granite adder
#

Whatever content we get ..I will still be here to enjoy it!

rich sleet
#

I know atleast the winter dxp isn't happening

#

But haven't seen an official "form now on theres only 2 dxps" post or reddit reply anywhere

hollow vault
#

We already know, the next DXP after nov will be May. Anything beyond that they prob don't even know themselves yet. As it's experimentation what those events will be replaced with

granite adder
#

Leagues has been fun in terms of getting large amounts of players interacting. DXP for all its flaws at least had the same effect.

hollow vault
#

They have stated, they were looking into things to replace it like THokk's. You can find J mod replies on reddit about it

granite adder
#

Be fun to see Spisific Skilling weekends .. with DXP and extra rare drops in one skill over a short period

#

Or a Slayer weekend

hollow vault
#

Imo 2 dxp events a year is plenty anyway, espec with all the holiday events in its current state.

rich sleet
granite adder
#

Be fun if you somehow had to interact with other players to get the DXP

#

Like a group activity

hollow vault
#

That's not the nature of dxp though. The other events that are aimed to replace the 2 "in-between" events could accomplish this though.

#

Most people want to maximize their experience during these events.

granite adder
#

Honestly .. I'm a little odd when it comes to XP. My view is why race to 200m, whats there to do after that?? I just enjoy the ride, I,m in no hurry to get to the end!

hollow vault
#

In my opinion we have to many XP related events. Cuz right now we have 4 DXPs a year and 3 "skilling hub" events per year.

rich sleet
hollow vault
#

oh right easter too.

#

Yeah, even more.

finite elk
#

yeah the events if anything have been even more egregious

#

they work really well with players playing extreme hours doing skilling methods which involve little to no attention by providing flat rewards per period of time

rich sleet
#

a perfect example of catering way to hard to afkscape

surreal goblet
#

With 4 Event Hubs, they can delete a DXP or two and replace those with a skilling/combat/D&D week event or a Thok's buffs combat event

worldly spindle
rich sleet
#

🤷‍♂️ Maybe they'll just give you the lucky cosmetics and no shafting happened

worldly spindle
rich sleet
#

Yet all of them are given more then enough time to use. And all the bandaid items are very likely to see proper fixes for the reasons why you'd use them so you won't need them anymore

worldly spindle
#

Again, that's relative. "More than enough time" has a very different definition depending on how much you actually play.

rich sleet
#

If you don't have the time to play to use them will you really miss them when they're gone

#

It's not like you were using them anyways

worldly spindle
#

Yes?

rich sleet
#

And they also said they are still looking into how to solve exactly that problem

#

Where people have more then they can use

worldly spindle
#

Like what part of "I'd like to use them throughout the next 10 years, not be forced to spend all of my free time grinding them out in the next year" is hard to understand?

rich sleet
#

If it was up to me unhealthy stuff would be removed januari 2026. Jagex is already nice with the 2027 deadline.

#

While also considering ways where you will be able to use it even if you only play 30 minutes a month

#

I just really hope they don't just yeet a million processors at everyone to use for their proteans and dummies

worldly spindle
worldly spindle
# rich sleet I just really hope they don't just yeet a million processors at everyone to use ...

As funny as that would be, I feel like you're taking the wrong message from what I'm trying to say. I want the ability to afk dummies whenever the hell I want to do so. Not just in the next year. Whenever. I. Want. If that's in 15 years because I was okay with them hogging a bank slot, then I should be able to do so. Stop adding more to the game, sure. The current ones will get used/destroyed eventually anyways.

#

Like let the removal happen naturally, instead of artifically forcing it.

#

Everything they listed that people stockpiled is consumable... So why not just let them be consumed?

rich sleet
#

Because theres plenty of under the hood reasons why just fully yeeting them out of the game is better then having them rot in the gamecode

worldly spindle
#

If that were true, half jugs of wine would have been removed

thin magnet
#

As long as they're in the game, new uses will come up. Like logs at Croesus, or planks at the fort

rich sleet
#

Stays in existence for the same reason as party hats and stuff

#

And theres a massive difference between items that are deemed unhealthy for the game and items that aren't

#

One of the most important and probably understandable reasons is. Noone is going to trust jagex and their integrity promises if those items stay around

#

Because then it feels like they'll always have the plans to bring them back as reward for stuff

worldly spindle
# rich sleet Because then it feels like they'll always have the plans to bring them back as r...

My point is that removing them from sale is the important part. If you're going to talk about integrity, let's at least identify why players thought the items were unfair. It was because you could buy them. It allowed whales to spend their way into the max guild. Many of the items aren't inherently unhealthy, except for the fact that they were MTX only. Proteans easily could have been a D&D reward, for instance.

#

But they weren't a reward. They were just a purchase. Which allowed them to flood the game.

rich sleet
#

It's definetly not just because you can buy them

worldly spindle
#

If they were a reward, Jag could adjust their impact on the game by adjusting their drop/purchase rates. But with purchases, they can't do that, because whales can always just spend more.

rich sleet
#

proteans / dummies were also just considered to good for how afk they are

worldly spindle
#

Like if a D&D gives you 1 currency per second, you know how long it will take a player to earn a stack of proteans, because you know how much the proteans cost.

rich sleet
#

Being taken out of the normal gameplay loop and not contributing to the economy in whatever way is why proteans and dummies are bad

worldly spindle
#

And you can adjust the proteans' impact on the game by adjusting their shop price/stack count/currency drop rate.

finite elk
#

yeah it's 100% not about them being buyable, free keys were always worse than paid keys

worldly spindle
#

But all of that goes out the window when they're purchasable via MTX

#

Same with having them as a boss drop. If a future skilling boss has proteans as a drop, they can adjust their impact by adjusting the drop rates.

#

But that relies on them not being accessible via other means like MTX

rich sleet
#

Lucky for us jagex disagrees and is goign to just remove them from existence

worldly spindle
#

And proteans are just one example though. Portables could easily be an invention thing.

finite elk
#

they could, but there's also just like

#

no particularly good reason for them to exist at all

#

their net impact is clearly bad imo

eternal iron
worldly spindle
#

Eh, I think the resource saving boost is too powerful, but the idea behind them isn't awful.

rich sleet
#

portables are bad. But their effect or some of them could live on in other ways

surreal goblet
#

The two big issues with many mtx items is that

  1. They're buyable
  2. They reduce demand for normal skilling items and core skilling methods
worldly spindle
#

Make artisan skills social, so people don't spend all their time muling between banks and crafting stations. The smithing workshop helped breathe new life into smithing because it made it a social activity.

rich sleet
#

Fort forinthry bank chest should not be the one stop shop for all your skilling needs

worldly spindle
#

And portables did the same for other artisan skills

eternal iron
#

The biggest issue is that they mask the broken bits of the game. As soon as you run a version of the game without these items it's a mess.

rich sleet
#

Make guilds great again. Move some or all portable effects to their related guilds like they did with the luminite injector

finite elk
#

the problem with portables in that regard is that they're trying to substitute for coherent world and gameplay building

worldly spindle
finite elk
#

I think the idea that taking items from a bank to a skilling station is in someway bad is bordering on absurd

#

it's a buff, it matters not one iota whether the buff itself exists or not

worldly spindle
eternal iron
#

Instead of portables you could create hubs with varying features that somewhat resemble what portables used to provide. Now you've got players in one location rather than wherever they wish to deploy their portable meeting other players doing the same skill but potentially at a lower level.

rich sleet
finite elk
#

in fact I'd fairly strongly contend that the ability to do every skill directly next to a bank isn't great in itself because it contributes to the significant extent to which RS3 skills feel essentially identical to one another

worldly spindle
#

Like I said last time, it's about making the skills available to new players. When you're brand new, even level 60 could feel daunting.

rich sleet
#

But also not everything needs to immediatly available to new players

worldly spindle
#

Which is why I said to make a back room available to the more advanced players.

ionic prism
rich sleet
#

Having the low level reqs like 40 crafting or 32 cooking is perfectly fine 🙂

ionic prism
#

than if everyone stands the same square

finite elk
#

we need to assume that new players are adopting simpler gameplay loops

#

fishing then cooking an inventory at a time, for instance

thin magnet
#

Portables require a Brooch to get the most of them. Level 40 seems more accessible than a 100m+ item

worldly spindle
#

And again, that's why I say to have the core crafting area available. Get the new players used to the skill by introducing them to it there, then when they're advanced enough to need the more complicated stuff, make it accessible in the back room of the guild. But starting the skill out front would help familiarize them with it. Imagine if the smithing workshop was entirely gated until level 40. New players would be left confused (at best) because it's obviously the primary place for players to do the skill.

finite elk
#

I think thematically that's ok for some skills but not others

#

b/c it begs the question why do I need to be in this specific location to do this

#

I think the current design of smithing is fine

ionic prism
#

players dont start smithing in artisans workshop though

finite elk
#

but if you started designing some kind of cooking guild in which everyone cooked from day dot of their account

ionic prism
#

they discover it but are not sent there to learn the skill

ionic prism
#

as in, they discover it probably by doing Whats Mine is Yours, or wandering around

#

they're not directed there by the game starting out

finite elk
#

I think I'd prefer it if the current smithing tutorial in burthorpe was replaced with a prompt to journey to falador to learn more about smithing

ionic prism
#

To my understanding Lumbridge is returning as starting stone

#

According to Mod Stu

rich sleet
#

The only reqs from guilds i'd like to see removed is having to wear X item

finite elk
#

good

ionic prism
#

I think burthorpe as tutorial might have an expiration date

finite elk
#

remove the anvil

#

there is no good reason to have an anvil in Lumbridge imo

worldly spindle
ionic prism
rich sleet
#

LIke don't tell me my 200m cooking xp doesn't make me a master chef

#

But wearing a chefs hat does

worldly spindle
ionic prism
#

Craft guild already lost apron req years ago

finite elk
ionic prism
#

Cooking guild has alternatives to chefs hat

finite elk
#

the player should not have access to every game system in the starting town

#

they need to be pushed to explore and go out in the world

worldly spindle
ionic prism
#

you can do:

  • chefs hat
  • sous chef hat
  • cooking cape
  • hard varrock tasks
#

You can also buy chefs hat in varrock

sudden briar
#

Should 200m xp give a passive buff "counts as wearing skillcape at all times"? 🤔

finite elk
#

no

worldly spindle
ionic prism
#

tbh just do varrock task set

worldly spindle
#

And that means making all of the starting skills available in the starting town.

ionic prism
#

we've had things be item locked and quest locked forever

worldly spindle
#

Like someone shouldn't be forced to travel across the map just to start a skill they want to do.

ionic prism
#

uh, what counts as starting skills?

finite elk
#

they can do whatever they want if they can get to a location where they can do it

ionic prism
#

we have several skills you have to travel across the map for

worldly spindle
ionic prism
#

necro, arch, dungeoneering

finite elk
#

RS needs to move far away from making things available to players at all times

worldly spindle
#

Like the non member skills need to be available to the non members

#

And those are primarily what the new players will first use to interact with the game

#

Thus, they're the starting skills

ionic prism
#

thats a distinction between "available to non members" and "available in first town"

#

player should be encouraged to set out and engage with the world at large

#

instead of staying in starting town forever

finite elk
worldly spindle
#

By removing those skills from the starting area (wherever that is) it is forcing new players into certain gameplay styles they may not want.

ionic prism
#

runescape has historically not had the classic mmo zones

finite elk
#

the big reason why burthorpe is terrible as a starting location is that it feels unnatural because it has everything

ionic prism
#

and trying to fit everything in creates very artificial zones

#

There is a reason burthorpe has been decluttered like, twice now

finite elk
ionic prism
#

and probably will be decluttered again

#

crossing fingers the gnomes get tossed next

worldly spindle
surreal goblet
#

If RS was the sort of MMO to hard require a quest/quest-tutorial to unlock a skill, you'd have a bunch of skills start all over the place but have skilling locations everywhere

ionic prism
#

But lumbridge historically pushed you out to explore the world

finite elk
#

lumbridge is a little better yes, though I'd probably remove the bank chest in the market which feels pretty out of place

ionic prism
#

no coincidence that restless ghost sent you to corner of the swamp

#

or rune mysteries (started at the duke) sent you both to varrock and wizards tower

worldly spindle
rich sleet
#

Not obviously enough available atleast

finite elk
#

quite - and while I think the banker on the castle roof is probably moderately sensible

worldly spindle
#

So new players were forced to travel to other towns for a bank

rich sleet
#

There was always a bank it's just to hidden on top of the castle

#

Atleast there has been for a long ass time

finite elk
worldly spindle
rich sleet
#

18years is long enough 🤷‍♂️

worldly spindle
#

Like there was literally no bank in lumb

finite elk
#

yeah I think it's probably fine that that one is there

#

largely because it's not particularly convenient for anything

worldly spindle
#

Yeah it's only really convenient for portables

rich sleet
#

Bankchests themselves though

#

Feel weird af

worldly spindle
#

And even that has been killed due to fort

rich sleet
#

Like why am i just leaving all my stuff in a random chest in the world

#

That's always open

worldly spindle
#

Yeah, the concept of bank chests just feels very immersion-breaking.

finite elk
#

I think some of them are fine in principle esp if given a bit more narrative exposition

#

let's say with RFD you're treated as a trusted member of the lumbridge castle and the squires will take items to and from your bank for you when placed in the chest, and the shop there works on a trust system

#

obv that's not in the game rn

#

and as such the chest feels off

rich sleet
#

Then i'd want a squire there as bank option

#

Like those random wildy people

worldly spindle
#

Yeah, the random wildy people always make me laugh when they wander past.

finite elk
worldly spindle
#

Like those are immersion-breaking in other ways. Random dude with a giant pack just casually strolls past an army of ghosts or demons.

finite elk
#

we know there are people narratively in gielinor who don't physically appear in the game world

#

hell there's whole towns

#

which is why I'm sort of fine with narrative-only exposition rather than visual clarity in that regard

worldly spindle
#

Yeah, Varrock is supposed to be a sprawling kingdom, but you can walk across the entire thing in like 2 minutes. Imagine if a king demanded respect for being in charge of a plot of land the size of a football field.

finite elk
#

if it makes sense for a location to be staffed and its services available to the player, or for there to be some kind of 'magic tho' handwave, I'm fine with bank chests I think

#

i.e. RFD chest/barb assault = go ahead, bank chest; combat academy/castle wars = nty

rich sleet
#

Nah the random basement chest feels even worse then the combat academy to me

#

But that's all just personal stuff

worldly spindle
#

Yeah, the basement chest feels like "if I leave my stuff here, it'll get stolen by whatever lives on the other side of that wall"

worldly spindle
#

Talking more about the giant wall-dwelling hands that scare new players lol

finite elk
#

lol

#

fair

thin magnet
#

The banking system looks like it's low fantasy, but seems to run on high fantasy elements as you go through the story. I'm fine with it being as magical as Player owned Houses, which are in space folded on itself

worldly spindle
#

On that same topic, can we get a rework to player housing? Fort was great for Construction, but housing has been dead for ages.

#

Like the only reason I've used housing in the past 5 years was for prayer altars. And it wasn't even my house.

#

Like if they're dropping protean planks, at least make housing worth it. It doesn't make sense for players to dump thousands of random pieces of furniture into their bank.

rich sleet
#

Anyone still making flatpacks is memeing anyways

#

fort is an infinitely better way to spend your stuff

worldly spindle
#

Well yeah, since fort blew it out of the water

#

And that's my point. Housing is dead.

finite elk
#

the hard thing from a game design perspective about POH I think is that you need to find something that makes players want to visit the house without making them want to spend lots of time there (b/c players being in instances = bad in general)

worldly spindle
#

Better resources from better rooms

#

At least it would make the investment worth something in the long term

finite elk
#

I think my personal ideal would be to limit its functionality but have it be a super-customisable way of displaying the player's achievements (b/c the trophy halls and skill rooms are still 2006-locked)

worldly spindle
#

Cuz POH is not currently worth investing in.

#

Like at best, you currently get a cape rack?

#

And that's not even something you need to visit often.

surreal goblet
#

Storage for various items like those from clue scrolls with the costume room, you got the aquarium, and then other stuff that haven't aged as well like the altar or the study where you make teleport tablets

finite elk
#

there's some stuff. aquarium for elite clue once a week, making teletabs etc

worldly spindle
#

I know people make teletabs, but I've literally never seen the need. They're so cheap I just buy em lol

#

Aquarium is a great example of what I'm talking about though. You invest into the room, and get regular returns.

surreal goblet
#

PoH workshop has the armor stand, which is kinda useful but also kinda superseded by augmentation and the invention whetstone

thin magnet
#

It's easier to make teletabs than buy them if you run out while doing clues. Like, no one is selling a watch tower teletab most days

worldly spindle
#

Fair. I've never been huge on clues, so I haven't had the need.

shy salmon
#

I see in the FAQ there was mention of a possible well of integrity. Is there some consideration on getting rid of some restrictions on d&d reset useage as well? If I need to I'll dump them but I have more than a years worth of month and I think weekly resets as well.

worldly spindle
#

Hell, I only recently got around to building the elite hidey-holes

#

Yeah same. I have like 3 years worth of monthly resets, just cuz I tend to forget about Oyster and sit on them.

finite elk
worldly spindle
#

Yeah, it's money making for someone else. But my point is that for the majority of players, they aren't really using the POH. It's only a select few who choose to use it for money.

#

And as mentioned above, that's not even a "good" way to encourage POH usage, because it requires players to grind out teletabs in an instanced location.

finite elk
#

yeah fair

sudden briar
#

It's very easy for "games as a service" updates to introduce power creep that can make old content obsolete if not curated very carefully.

worldly spindle
#

A good example is lots of the rewards from old D&Ds. There is a lot that you need to grind for (even on modern builds), but you're often doing it alone because it's basically dead content.

surreal goblet
#

Usually Live Service games especially MMORPGs like Runescape in general work by releasing new tiers of new content that are better than the previous tiers. Eventually this can end up in a content treadmill where you will always have new content be released that would technically invalidate the previous tier.

Depending on your personal view of how games should be, it can be bad or good for a content treadmill exist, but imo if one does indeed exist, what will matter is how hard it is to bring yourself up to speed if you drop the game at any point.

sudden briar
#

I'm never finishing my void armour collection.

worldly spindle
#

And unless I manage to convince my clan to help out one day, I'm convinced I'll never actually unlock them lol

sudden briar
#

I remember looking at some easy achievements to do that were added during my 8 year break from the game and thought "Hey the fishing trawler has a couple I could knock out in an hour or two" lol nope deader than the Naragi plane on even the dedicated world

worldly spindle
#

Even worse, lots of those skills are vital for end-game viability lmao

crisp hazel
#

Personally the only gripe I have about portables being removed is that creating urns will have more (literal) steps, but that’s an easily fixed issue.

Portables will be the one item that I will truely miss. Was hoping they might stay in one form or another.

I think the portables might be a good idea during seasonal events only (which is the times they get saved for mostly). A portable set up that lasts the entire event or randomly swapped each hour, something simular to the beach event's happy hours. This would become a more seasonal extra to draw more people into staying at the events for longer and not just to get the current rewards and then dissappearing back to doing their own grind. The portables could be nerfed so smaller numbers or items are crafted between the need to click onto them.

Portables really don't get saved for anything

As is seen with them existing 24/7 all day everyday in w84

I'd also like to not see more fomo stuff in events. Theres already to much that kinda needs you to be there to get the most out of events

Why will lucky items not be converted into purely cosmetic or without any stats?? I've been collecting them even though they are useless, and picked them over rewards such as 200m and what else there's been..
I would even prefer it more if everyone just got the full lucky sets, then having wasted so many keys trying to get lucky items.. I've even bought keys when they were new just to get lucky items..

I have 39 lucky items, including all the spirit shields, godswords and chaotic items.

And what about my 18 golden items? I don't see those mentioned, will they be removed too????

Also portables, I would love if we could get a portable workstation (without the boosts they have now), sometimes it's just more convenient to click on those instead of doing it by hotkeys or right-clicking "use" on an item for then clicking on the next.

Should be ornament kit-styled unlocks from related content.
RotS for the Barrows lucky ornament kit.

Causes a nice 'chase item' for players to go for. The prefix of 'Lucky' should also be scrubbed due to the TH association.

yes, it's a bit confusing, but the original golden equipment still exists; the golden overrides from this year are a graphically identical but technically unrelated successor

you cannot convert the physical golden equipment into the golden goods cosmetics (or vice-versa); confusion may stem from the fact that many people keepsaked their physical golden equipment and use it as an override that way

It provides unnecessary bypasses for players to obtain logs, drops that potentially might not of been capable otherwise.

storm cloud
#

its just one of those unusual niche things that adds to the color of the game

#

its not like you can't get a log by paying for leeches anyway

#

so the idea that removing dtds prevents people from getting loot from a boss they didnt kill is wrong

#

also, would like to point out that dtds have almost never been mathematically worth using in terms of expected drop value vs. 5m cost of the dart

#

and even if they were, that's a lever that can be adjusted, i.e., restricting them from more bosses or increasing their price or removing them from weekly challenge loot

#

so i don't really see how they are a meaningful threat to the integrity of the game

#

there simply is not and will never be a hugely significant number of nex drops or whatever flooding the market because of DTDs

#

and that's in spite of the fact that nex is actually still quite profitable for a t80 boss from RS2 14 years old

full field
#

DTDs discourage people from wanting to learn combat. Necromancy's release amplified this due to so many people seeking boss carries to upgrade their gear, with plenty of DTDs having been thrown for it.

#

If DTDs were to stay in the game for some reason, the list of restricted encounters should also significantly increase.

I want to reinforce the bogus nature of the "VOTE". a VOTE implies a CHOICE of at least two options. When asked to vote in an affirmative manner or simply abstain from voting, what is learned? NOTHING! A true VOTE probably would have shut down all the predetermined future plans. Instead, the entire MTX experiment is designed to appear friendly to player feedback while marching steady forward to an unpopular decision. All the "we got approved" backslapping is a farsical judgement that Jagex is looking to improve the player experience. I predict a massive exodus of the player base. Good luck in your false assumptions. Shame on you.

The surveys are all well and good. But this non vote is a big issue. You want to confirm the surveys then say here's the results. Don't say vote in this poll where you can't give your opinion and after a random number of those out of millions of accounts we'll get rid of it. That is a bunch of malarkey. I don't want to lose the skilling outfits. I don't care if they make them cosmetic but I like some of those outfits to Fashionscape in. 100% agree! Clearly Jagex is already planning to do this and the "vote" is a perception of player input. What is 100k votes in actual player base numbers? 20% 30%? and allowing OSRS to vote who currently do not have MTX and have always been salty about RS3 is not really a clear picture of the RS3 community.

twilit pendant
#

It has been stated in the FAQ why there's isn't a no option, let's stop going back to an argument that's been answered a hundred times already

As for why the vote doesn't have any restrictions, allowing players who are currently on hiatus as well as relapsing players, both groups of which could have people currently spending time on osrs, to take part in the vote, is a key aspect of the vote

ionic prism
#

The dozens of surveys and the experiments we had

#

all of which had "yes" to removal be the significantly bigger group

#

have already given a clear picture

#

It hit 120k votes in 7 days. 100k mark was already reached in like 27 hours.

#

154k accounts got 1k xp on rs3 in same time period

#

Jagex was absolutely planning to do this before the vote had gone out, because they had so much data all saying majority of players wanted to see TH gone from a year long process. There was incredibly good reason to assume the threshold would be hit.

#

Its not like this started with this vote and its vote threshold

#

Even if they did a no vote, said no vote would have no path to outcompeting the yes vote, not based on statistics jagex has published

rich sleet
#

Can't wait for the 12th to come so people find something new to complain about in the roadmap

twilit pendant
#

the biggest valid thing right now seems to be there not being a concrete plan on how to handle lucky items

#

and like we all know the thing that should happen is them converting to overrides like some golden items were

#

jagex just needs to come out and say that

#

sooner the better

#

and while they're at it, do the same to the golden items that weren't converted in the first wave

twilit pendant

#

Or corp shields

#

Maybe we shouldn't add a few years of supply of an item into the game at once

#

Either converted to cosmetic or completely gone are the only reasonable alternatives

wouldnt it just be like a cosmetic override though for the lucky items to replace what you had already?

ionic prism

I did daily challenges (time skilling) and travelling merchant(in game gold) for my death touched darts. A few from in game raffles we did not pay cash for. The FAQ suggests that Jagex has them on list to be considered for removal from the game altogether. Despite them helping compensate players who chose RuneScape because of not requiring physical and mental abilities Jagex later decided to require. Many players are locked out of quests by bosses (not me, I am able to get there eventually) What we need is for these darts not go away.. but to work on lord of vamp and pirate and char quest bosses- make players 80 hours work to get the quest boss skip for lord of vamp or char etc if you want. additional stuff: I feel the value of this item was recognised by Jagex recently when they expanded the items scope. https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/initial-faq-treasure-hunter-mtx-reductions--integrity-roadmap (ADDITIONAL ITEMS THAT MAY BE FULLY REMOVED FROM THE GAME

Cosmetics would be worthless

If they're worthless now, and only has value for cosmetics, then compensation of them being cosmetics is more fair

#

These items cannot be traded, why would you need something tradeable in compensation?

sonic perch

Cosmetics are only valuable to some

ionic prism

The point I'm making is that converting them to tradeable version would not only completely crash every single one of those items

Hey Carol, i appreciate the well written message

some of the encounters you described have become easier to those who struggle with combat thanks to the addition of necromancy, but everybody's different and that's not the same catch-all to beat these bosses as darts are

i am of the opinion that there needs to be some minimum threshold of effort that has to go in to beating quest bosses, and i think something that could be employed here to lower the bar for those who need it further than it has already been lowered by necromancy is something called dynamic difficulty, where after a few failures the game will ask you if you want to make the fight slightly easier.

there's a few places in the game where dynamic difficulty is already being used also, to me this is a far healthier alternative than removing that threshold of effort entirely in the way that death touched darts do

sonic perch
#

And people who don’t can get compensated

ionic prism

We can do that without introducing tradeable tokens and make this a rare

for chaotics, they could add them as cosmetics to the DG shop for a high amount of tokens

This is a game, and when slayer came out it wanted me to lose all my gear in the wilderness fighting something i felt was too hard for me. Even the same person can vary game styles. I will sometimes like to do the same thing over and over, sometimes not. . Its hard to explain it, but not having slayer points to spend on upgrading my slayer stuff was dreary. One person drudgery is another's thrill. ( I kept getting ice strykeworms tasks when I didn't have a fire cape which could not be one and cost slayer points to end and I wanted to do those so I used death touched dart to get a firecape after more than decade. • Slayer VIP coupons - Are we able to address the problem at the core of slayer, instead of it being an extra that's tacked on?
    • Bonus note: This item is actually a good example of where the game has quite a few complexities that have built up over the years and might seem normal to current players, but are alien to newer/returners. Currently you can mess with the assigned task via coupons, slayer cape, Archaeology relic, slayer points, etc. Streamlining this would be preferred

A male armour everywhere beige and brown history look isn't necessarily accurate. Even if this was not game with summoning, rune crafting, magic, divination, necromancy, prayer and other somewhat mystic skills. IDK how far along you are with your account but for the vast majority of players who have maxed or put a significant amount of time into the game, we dont hurry it up. We will use DXPs if we fancy it BUT the reality has it that most of us play it at our own pace and treat it as a "I will get there when I get there"

It sucks when you want to play the big stuff. The key thing happening for RS right now is that Jagex is directly acknowledging that the early, mid to mid-late (up to 99 still) has rough game loops.

the implication with the acknowledgement is that they may update or fix problems that are getting bandaided with silverme feathers etc. (To say it, I did a vast majority of my leveling during a period when I worked 40-60 hour weeks. it is possible. You do have to sacrifice things to make time tho. )

gentle island
#

i guess to put into context i've been playing for a little over 2 decades and it was maybe a couple years ago i maxed on my skills (not 200m max). the issue i see is that content gets released and people play it but then the content dies a while later for one reason or another and when someone eventually can do the content, it ends up essentially dead content.

i know its not supposed to be a race and those that do think that really should go elsewhere. but for those that can't put the time in to eventually do said content it becomes a turn off for them. like i said earlier too if people skip stuff because they cba, then they deserve no sympathy.

taking time to play doesn't mean doing what people did in the past- If it takes many years knowhow for an average person to get to the fun stuff and most people have already spent the ten years that does rather rule out new players. On th other side many players have spent significant years on rs and have the levels but still cannot easily boss. . vague swallow
#

The real problem with this vote is not whether or not the majority of players wanted TH removed(and its previous iterations) for ~15 years.

The problem stems from Jagex's laziness(as a company, not the developers) in actually allowing players to move forward with a plan with compromises through voting/experimentation, and instead have shoehorned THEIR OWN CORPORATE SOLUTION that may be more economical from a company standpoint initially, but causes extreme inconvenience/disengagement to/with the addicted and/or nostalgic player-base.

Just because items were gained through RNG, does not mean that players did not "buy" the items. Even if players exchanged their time for daily keys that was still a cost incurred to the player.

Giving players' items equivalent to items that they may potentially lose will be a serious endeavor and one that - without substantial player input will fail miserably.

I really would like to see a unique, THOUGHTFUL, and fair method of collecting data of this sort, because currently the implementation seems as though as it sacrifices Jagex's integrity, players prior engagement with Jagex's in-game systems, and player emotional well-being(via feelings of loss, and devalued in-game assets).

If there can not be a simple exchange "x" for "y", then don't make the change.

There will be solutions if the company actually puts in time to think of some. Outright removal of items without equivalent compensation is ludicrous.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

#

With the current proposal they'd be just as ingenuous as to reset everyone's stats to level 99(leaving those below level 99 as is), and reboot all high score races back to 120/200m.
And wipe every item that can grant exp to a player via any method from their banks giving a fresh start without MTX.
But even then, you'd still have FOMO items to consider.

It would best to just halt MTX and leave items as is until proper "x" for "y" solutions can be presented in my opinion.

surreal goblet
#

Pretty much all front page high score races for recent skills have been more or less untouched by MTX thanks to the 6 month MTX embargo

ionic prism
#

Giving players' items equivalent to items that they may potentially lose will be a serious endeavor and one that - without substantial player input will fail miserably.

The only thing that have been talked about having an exchange is lucky items

#

Proteans and the like is "use by 1st of january 2027"

#

They've worked on this for over a year, having a lot of data before they even did the first experiment

vague swallow
#

There shouldn't be an expiration date on proteans. Just let them be used as they're used currently, or exchange them somehow -- even dxp trader.

ionic prism
#

They've done a fair and thoughtful gahtering of data

#

Go look at the answers they've given in the wake of the FAQ, there has been a lot of thought put into it

gentle island
#

um..... what proposal? all i saw (unless i missed something) was a list of items that should (i say should because that list could change) be removed and a list that could be removed

ionic prism
#

If we don't have an expiration on them, then we'd have the potential of them really messing up on balancing in the future limiting things they can do

#

Lets say they increase xp cap from 200m for instance.

It would be really bad if people who hoarded proteans got a leg up on others in any competition

gentle island
#

well nothing has been set in stone yet other than items will be removed

ionic prism
#

14 months are more than adequate time to use up any supplies you have use for

vague swallow
#

That's not true. They can keep their current implementation exactly lol.
They already have been changed to be used to convert directly to experience gains* over X period of time(the skilling action). It's not like protean planks previous iteration.

ionic prism
#

Its pretty simple why there is an expiration date for them.

They don't want to have any trace of them ingame, or let it impact any gameplay or balance, past a certain point

That's not really the point. It's more that they could literally do a direct exchange, x for y, and not cause any issues to players.

It would be no different than players being able to participate in an event that got removed from the game. It was there, but now it isn't.

Getting 14 months to use these up is incredibly fair AND generous

they could easily have done 6 months or the like

vague swallow

I think the majority of players do, including myself lol. Nothing says they can't provide equivalent value for what they'd purchased or earned however.

They could even provide value by returning days of membership equivalent to the amount of $ paid to attain proteans at their given rates.

Your first post here was calling Jagex lazy (they've been working on this and gathering data for over a year), saying they shoehorned in a corporate solution (even though it was formed through so many moments of feedback it felt like they did a survey every other update).

Suggesting that if they can't implement an exchange, then changes shouldn't go through, and thats how this proces can be thoughtful and fair. That current implementation would sacrifice integrity.

You make suggestion that there would be class action lawsuits and that they'd be justified if Jagex don't change their tune.

ionic prism
#

It is easily the fairest thing they can do

stable raven

Honestly, years of being given freebies in the form of non-purchased mtx more than makes up for any "compromise" people could agree on. Better to take the year+ to use up what you have then to say it's not enough.

Why would it need any button?

#

Just say "login to the game"

ionic prism
vague swallow
#

That's what I was saying.

ionic prism
vague swallow

When I was saying login to the game.

ionic prism

which will be fewer but I bet like, 2

I think I see what you're saying, Kobra. Similar to other emails they have sent regarding updates and promotions, just about TH removal

#

If people ignore their registered email, fault isn't on Jagex (not that it is to beginwith).

vague swallow
ionic prism
#

If you got a registered email, you know how to log in to the game

stable raven
#

Registered emails became required in 2011. If people don't have one by now, very little excuse 😛

ionic prism
#

If they've not played since 2011 they've got no need for a warning anyways

#

Given squeal was added in 2012

stable raven
#

Lol fair point too

vague swallow
#

Have they said anything about what future MTX looks like? Are they keeping it exclusive to cosmetics and keepsakes?
I'm unsure if they said they'll be sticking with the experience boost-like packages they sold during the experiements previously.

stable raven
#

We'll know more on the 12th

ionic prism

But bombs did not survive the experiment. They're on the deletion list.

Windowed?

#

Oh yeah the actual Limit I recall that. I was thinking time window.

DXP is too good for quarterly player counts though, honestly.

ionic prism

Happy they didn't survive the experiments, even though doomers said there was no point in arguing against them

surreal goblet
#

Well, there's still the Fort rested bonus exp system

ionic prism
#

sometimes even dropping

#

concurrent player numbers go up... from people playing longer

#

But not much for getting players back or into the game

vague swallow
#

Yeah only things that really boost returning player counts are new quests or bosses. New players, I don't even have a thought when it comes to RS3. Probably Word of mouth.

ionic prism
#

Like, take the DXP in may on the seasonal weekly hiscores

#

2 weeks before: 164k players
1 week before: 153k players
DXP: 159k players

#

This is just... normal player fluctuation

gentle island
#

quick question, is dxp this friday?

ionic prism
#

And before you think "maybe there was a big update 2 weeks before"

patent umbra
vague swallow
#

yes, Nov 14th

ionic prism
#

nope. It was a no-update week because of gamejam

#

DXP did worse than a no update week just two weeks prior

vague swallow
#

Factor in new game releases as well, and it's rough.

stable raven
#

I think there are too many individual varying factors to look at one individual DXP and say it represents all DXP as a whole

#

That said, I am of the opinion that scarcity (reducing DXP's per year) will increase demand and turnout. If anyone has relevant data, I'd love to see it

ionic prism
#

At least the times I've checked

finite elk
#

before the grace period was announced btw I was in theory in favour of an indefinite period to use up MTX stuff and I probably still am

#

but tbh someone having so many that their playtime for over one year is not enough to use them up is very much a 'world's smallest violin' moment

#

on the class action suggestion, the UK doesn't have 'opt-out' class actions outside of the competition appeals tribunal (and I don't see how you'd bring this under that's jurisdiction), so either way your class action relies on getting a list of affected players and getting them to sign up for a group litigation order (and also finding the couple million in legal fees that GLO litigation tends to go at minimum), or you're looking at finding some idiot very friendly person who's willing to sue in their own name as a CPR r.19.8 same interest representative and bear the entire risk on their own shoulders for a small portion of the reward, or you're looking to sue outside England and Wales and either only have one country's citizens as claimants or otherwise somehow defeat what seems a fairly compelling argument that England and Wales is a more convenient forum for the litigation

tl;dr class action means find a few hundred people and probably a few million quid at least before you're getting anywhere

(obviously this is not legal advice etc etc)

jagex has leeway and although you are right that they cant just TOS vanish stuff tomorrow they have other things also protecting jagex where what they are doing falls within the legal boundaries

#

runecoins and keys existing for 12 months being one of those things they can vanish rn if they chose

#

but purchased yesterday, not so much

I am upset about the lucky items too. i used my Birthday money and money i saved ( we had 6 kids it was hard to save money for keys) and i bought many keys to get lucky items.. now they will be gone? how is that fair? I dont see how it is honestly.

#

no one uses the lucky items really except cosmetically. i mean t75 and t80... come on most people use higher level stuff than that.

full field
#

The issue is the physical item existing.
If it is migrated to the Wardrobe system, that would be much better.

reef coral

yea if it turns into a cosmetic already unlocked cause i alreay obtained it.. im ok with that. ty for showing me the ideas that are posted on reddit.. i do not go there often.
