We've gotten four abilities from the codex pertaining to melee, ranged, magic and constitution.

Enter a fifth ability, this one for Necomancy:

Miasma Gate

Threshold ability (Necromancy's first)

Effects

Opens a portal that takes up a space of 5x5 tiles over the target. All enemies that find themselves on the area receive 15–30% ability damage every 1.2 seconds for 12 seconds.

(this is basically Magma Tempest for Necromancy, but as a threshold rather than a basic. adjustments can be made for this effect because I kind of don't want to overshadow Magma Tempest with this)

How to acquire

The ability cannot be read directly from the codex. Instead, the player has to first be able to identify that the codex contains a hidden passage. This would require level 80 in Necromancy.

Next, the player has to perform a Greater Ensoulment ritual, selecting the codex as its focus.

Once ensouled, the player, with 20 greater ghostly ink and 5 ectoplasm, can write in the codex,, revealing the hidden ability and allowing the player to unlock it.

The thing about the codex is each ability granted is rooted in one of the schools of ancient magic.
Smoke Tendrils
Shadow Tendrils
Blood Tendrils
Ice Asylum

Adding a fifth doesn't make sense thematically, and adding a standard threshold ability to necromancy erodes the identity of necromancy. Necromancy globals are already pretty constrained as there's a lot to spend adrenaline on already so I think this would just make the style feel less fluid and less enjoyable

Except miasma was a part of the ancient spellbook before EOC, though what needed to be used to cast any of them was Zuriel's staff.

Now miasma barrage is just relegated to a special attack on Zuriel's staff.

That, plus the fact that there's an archaeology artefact that implies miasma was grouped in with the other primordial elements, said artefact being the ||funerary urn of miasma from the Senntisten digsite||, tells me that miasma's a solid fifth for the ancients in a similar way to how ||quintessence is the fifth element for standard elements|| and therefore rooted in, albeit one that's obscure and likely difficult to control.

RuneScape Wiki

Miasmic spells were one of the types of Ancient Magicks combat spells that halved the attack speed of Melee and Ranged for a limited time. Miasmic spells required Zuriel's staff to be cast and the special effect only worked on other players, not NPCs. The miasmic spells were released years after the other Ancient Magicks combat spells, and the s...

I will agree that it probably shouldn't be made a threshold if anything. Probably just have it cost something like 40% adrenaline so it doesn't overshadow bloat?

part of why magma tempest is so good is that it does a crap ton of damage, between 200% and 240% ability damage which makes it worth using even on single target. Necro is already pretty crowded on buttons to press and things to spend adrenaline on. Your version has 2 extra hits compared to magma tempest, and the same ceiling so it would not only overshadow magma tempest but also would be worse damage per execute time than bloat (472.5%-577.5% ability damage) at a higher cost on single target, so it would only be applicable in cases of highly stacked aoe on high hitpoint targets in counts of greater than 5, which is literally only in aoe mob farming. And then you're competing with spectral scythe which will do the same amount of damage in 1/4 the time for the cost of -10% adren and +1 global. So there's not really a point to adding this functionality to the kit. It's a cool idea, but I would put it in the "absolutely unnecessary" category

I wouldn't really say it has the same ceiling as magma tempest considering it costs a few hundred mil to buy off other players and/or has to be gotten off Zuk, which isn't as friendly to beginner pvm as just doing dig site and grinding necromancy to 80. It might be better for there to be a different unlock method than exclusively from some neceo supplies and higher skill levels, but I can't really think of anything other than the usual boss drop which I think might get tiring after a while
