To get the best prices on the market, there should be price transparency on GE. This helps prevent price manipulation. EVE Online has a very good example of a market system where all available offers are shown. To prevent persistent undercutting, setting up a new offer charges a fee that is a percentage of the total price
This would create a more honest system where players are better informed about prices and get better prices as well whether they are buying or selling

like this idea because I'm always trying to figure out how much items are generally going for. So at least being able to see what things are being actively sold and bought for would give me a better idea instead of constantly having to go to some other platform to look at recent price trends which may not even be accurate with how much the market changes.

yes exactly
the people who don't like this idea are primarily those who make money from flipping or merching items
they are a small minority and tend to be rich already, but less rich average players stand to gain the most from this suggestion

not sure about creating an honest system, but definitely agree that prices should be shown, and setup fee included to deter false pricing setup
