#No Treasure Hunter Character Creation

Treasure Hunter has been a big argument between different people since its inception as Squeal of Fortune. Many have enjoyed it, others have hated it and those that are in between.

For those that didn't enjoy it, there have been only two options to no longer participate: Ironman or OSRS. Not everyone wants to create an Ironman Account just to disable Treasure Hunter. Same can be said about switching to OSRS.

So, I suggest a new option. The ability to disable Treasure Hunter through Character Creation. This would be the same principle as creating an Ironman but without all the locks an Ironman Account has.

Once the account is created, there will be no Treasure Hunter Promotions or Keys available to the player. There will be an option to reactivate Treasure Hunter but with a couple conditions.

First is that once Treasure Hunter is enabled on the character, there is no turning it off again. This would prevent continuous turning off and on of Treasure Hunter.

Second is that any Guaranteed Treasure Hunter Keys (i.e. Completing Quests and Daily Challenges) would not be obtained on enabling. This would be same as when it first started, no Retroactive Keys.

With this character type, it would allow for players to get a new look at RuneScape 3 without changing it completely.

"For those that didn't enjoy it, there have been only two options to no longer participate: Ironman or OSRS. Not everyone wants to create an Ironman Account just to disable Treasure Hunter. Same can be said about switching to OSRS."

What do you mean two options? Not everyone who makes an iron is doing it to evade TH? People just push the X once on the TH icon and it vanishes for like a week or until they do their dailies for keys.

Giving players the ability disable it you would just end up with people who decide wow wish I could use my daily keys or quest keys and then beg Jagex to release a way to revert the change.

Once again having an option like this will only be used as a way to hurt the game more than it would benefit it. Jagex will end up releasing something that a handful of players dislike and will spam make disabled TH accounts posting on Reddit with "I made the change you should too!"

It will just be used as a way to bash the game and things added to it that don't cater to and handhold the top 1% of players in-game which is why we only ever get end game content / comp reqs / new quests etc....

#

"With this character type, it would allow for players to get a new look at RuneScape 3 without changing it completely."

How does disabling TH give players a new look as you put it?

#

You lot make one button a simple left click to hide something sound like it's a game breaking feature that interrupts everything people do in the game.

This is the kind of predatory nonsense that kills games, people wonder why player count is dropping well it's not Jagex's fault it is the players fault for wanting to bash the game 24/7 asking for ways to be made that will be used to bash the game and give players a bad view of the game before they themselves tried it. RS3 has the least predatory and "In your face" kind of MTX out there

#

Rs3 is not the predatory ones they could never create any MTX more predatory than it's players trying to be convincing like this

#

=======================================================================
One button a simple left click is all it takes to hide TH people that is it, it's not a big deal this is a point and click based MMO?? You click hundreds even thousands of times every play session and people struggle with one click to hide a tiny icon that takes up 1/100th of a monitor?

#

========================================================================
I don't enjoy PvM due to EOC do you suggest I should hop into suggestions and suggest that a character creation option needs to exist that will prevent me from ever being able to attack anything in-game?

People don't like skilling or quests or achievement grinds, should we create ways for them to disable / skip those on account creation also?

#

To me it's common sense I don't like PvM so I don't do it, I don't care if PvM updates are made and not skilling ones I am not the only player in the game. I don't like PvM so I just don't do it.

People don't like skilling so they just don't do it

People hate questing so they just don't do it

People hate grinding for lengthy achievements so they just don't do it and focus on doing other things instead.

#

=======================
For whatever reason our players act like the TH icon is popping up on the screen every 10 seconds or you are getting bashed 24/7 with key deal popups but the reality is this is not the case and people just make it a bigger deal than it really is.

#

If pushing a red X once is an issue I beg of you don't give other MMO's a try

#

They will fold you like origami

lime junco
#

There's also a third option for people that don't like treasure hunter... simply not use it when it pops up.

azure leaf
#

People using "addiction" as a way to remove MTX / censor it is silly. People are addicted to video games should we add an account creation setting that ip bans you after 30 minutes of play time

#

People are addicted to Coffee should coffee makers have a way to detect someone drinking to much coffee and just implode on itself

haughty pecan
#

Wow, that is a lot of negativity for a suggestion. First, the Treasure Hunter Interface doesn't go away for a week. Whenever you login, it appears if you have ANY Keys available to use. The only time it doesn't is if you timeout.

I wasn't suggesting that the only reason people create Ironman and OSRS Accounts is just to get rid of Treasure Hunter. Just these two don't have it.

Then the 'new look' thing is for the fact that are quite a bit of new players that never played the game before Treasure Hunter was a thing. So it would in fact create a new way to play the game for them.

azure leaf
#

First part is false

haughty pecan
azure leaf
#

I have 87 keys just logged in and the TH icon did not popup

#

Closed client / reopened it and still did not popup

#

usually pops up when you get keys not just by logging in

azure leaf
#

Just like me not liking PvM is a personal issue they game should not have to cater to me

haughty pecan
#

Yet you add it in when that was never part of the discussion at all.

azure leaf
#

right?

#

In a way it is you suggest adding roundabout ways to avoid it realistically who does this help?

#

Lets take bonds for example remember when you could redeem them for a 14 day passcode aswell as direct membership and players were not reading before clicking and would choose the passcode and then had to do roundabout ways to get their membership started

#

realistically adding the ability to disable TH would hurt people who may want to use TH keys they earned from quests etc

#

And end up telling Jagex "Hey we need a way to re-enable it" for our mistake of reading

haughty pecan
#

Why does it have to be about helping anyone? It is another way to play the game without the extra jazz that Treasure Hunter brings.

azure leaf
#

I'm not a mean person or a bad person but conversations like this you deserve me to be fully up front with you

#

Do you have self control issues?

#

Serious question not trying to be mean when asking it it's a genuine question

haughty pecan
azure leaf
haughty pecan
# azure leaf Do you have self control issues?

Really? Why is this even a question to ask. The post was never made about self control issues. The only keys I have ever used were earned from with-in the game or through their Earn Keys System.

azure leaf
#

So in theory how would this help you if you can just close it any time

#

and know you can

#

I am trying to find where having a system actually does anything

#

If a person knows they can and has the ability to just close it

#

Just trying to figure out if you have the ability to not play then you are not making this suggestion entirely for yourself but for another group of players

#

trying to find out what group of people this is suppose to help

haughty pecan
# azure leaf I have 87 keys just logged in and the TH icon did not popup

I can say that this isn't completely false. I had earned keys from Quests in the interface. I would use the Daily and close it to save those keys. It wouldn't come back up for a bit but it sure isn't gone for a week. As it came back up the next day I started the game.

So either there is an option to make it last a week or something funky is going on with my take.

azure leaf
#

to close it in an area that hurts the least when it takes up 1/100th of the screen

#

and close it with a single click

#

Who does having an account creation "disable TH" option help

haughty pecan
#

What I don't understand is why you are so insistent on the fact this suggestion was solely made for the fact it is too hard to close the pop-up. It isn't about that at all and that was never in the original post.

I feel that more players would like the ability to play RS3 before Treasure Hunter was added. One of your posts made a comment about how someone doesn't enjoy PvM due to EOC. We already have a way to do that for RS3 and it is Legacy Combat.

A lot of your comments do in fact have ways to avoid them. There are players out there are have Skilling Only Accounts and thus actively avoid doing Combat. There are those that are Combat Only and thus do no skill training.

Heck, it was possible to do Ironman before where players would just not trade with anyone. Yet that type of account was added to the game.

There were enough players that wanted a dedicated Ironman Account that it was created. Why so against a account that doesn't have Treasure Hunter in it?

azure leaf
#

I'm not against having the ability to disable TH I just can't for the life of me think of anyone who will use it

#

for any legitimate reason other than a way to bash the game

haughty pecan
#

Again, why does that have to be the ONLY option?

iron parrot
#

The option to not use Treasure hunter already exists [x]

azure leaf
#

^

haughty pecan
#

Yeah, I admit there would be those that create it just for the sole reason to be arses. Just not everyone would use it that way.

azure leaf
#

can you elaborate on what kind of player?

#

Starting to see what I am getting at?

This is why I brought 'self control' into the topic a person with self control is willing and able to hit an X once and be done with it

#

a person who may lack self control to a certain extent would not willingly choose the option to disable TH even if they did they would remove that restrction using what you suggested

#

also why I brought the other point up because Jagex would look at that and say if they want to disable it then it's for a good reason and should not have the ability to undo it

#

resulting in people now begging Jagex to allow it to be undone because ones using it will only use it to bash the game

#

Nobody lacking in self control will on their own will choose the option to not interact with TH and those with self control have the ability and mindset to just hit the X

#

We get more popups on the screen about new updates / events than we do key deals / a tiny TH icon

#

but nobody says anything about those

#

This is just why I can't picture having the ability to disable it be used for any good reason

#

People will use it for like 20 minutes to make themselves feel like they are making a stand against MTX and realise wow I can't use my free daily keys Jagex kindly allows us to have and just enable it again

haughty pecan
#

You keep on brining up Self Control on this issue. You do realize those could be the same arguments used against having an Ironman Account? People with enough Self Control would just not trade with other players. Those lacking Self Control would just not create the account.

azure leaf
#

Giving the option to disable TH temporarilly VS a game mode is completely different

haughty pecan
#

I understand it existed as its own thing without that account style. Heck, I think it existed more on OSRS before it became more popular on RS3.

azure leaf
#

But help me understand what kind of player the ability to disable Th for a little bit would help

haughty pecan
#

I didn't suggest this on the basis of a particular type of player. So I wouldn't even be able to even think of what kind of player this would benefit.

azure leaf
#

So why have it then

#

If the game is already very much playable despite a tiny box icon appearing that can be closed with one click

#

and moved to anywhere on the screen

#

and always reappear in that exact spot every time

iron parrot
#

Ironman accounts (in my opinion) are a terrible addition to RuneScape

haughty pecan
#

It can? for me it always appears in the same dang spot right in the top left corner of the screen. No matter how many times I move it, it just keeps on appearing right there in that corner.

azure leaf
#

How is that an issue then if it's far out of the way

iron parrot
#

Does it pop back up after you close it when you log in? Or does it remained closed for your session?

azure leaf
#

Mine stays closed for the session

#

I never close my client until an update / maintence happens never have to close it again

#

even if I did not too big of a deal considering it only takes 1/100th of the screen

#

microscopic you could call it

iron parrot
#

Every time you hit [x] you are basically choosing [No Treasure Hunter]

If they made you use the keys before closing it then maybe the argument would be there

haughty pecan
#

Which is why mine comes back daily. I don't keep it open. Heck, I shut my computer down when I got to sleep at night.

cold igloo
#

Is ignoring treasure hunter not an option for you?

haughty pecan
#

Okay, my entire argument of having a different type of play for RS3 just fell apart. RS3 has had an iteration of Treasure Hunter since its release. Could have sworn that was released first then Squeal of Fortune.

Although being able to play RS3 without Treasure Hunter would still be a different experience.

iron parrot
#

[x] = disable treasure hunter/daily so the ability to play RS3 without participating already exists (wish granted.)

What if a promo comes out that makes you actually want to use MTX and then you are locked out of it? That would suck too wouldnt it?

Why is treasure hunter a bad thing in your opinion anyways?

north chasm
#

I'm surprised to see so much opposition to this suggestion

#

this seems like a no-brainer good thing to me

haughty pecan
#

Why is everyone twisting it in a way that either says I have a problem with it or I don't have the will power to ignore it.

It is like almost everyone that has responded just hates the idea of Treasure Hunter not existing. They got so used to it being in game that they forgot there was a time without it.

north chasm
#

whether it is actually practically possible is not a question I think we'll be able to answer - it'll depend on whether this would result in opt-outs from people who would otherwise have enjoyed the free keys they got and spent money on them

#

but yeah, excellent suggestion IMO - as someone who's keen on ironman being more restrictive than it currently is, I'd certainly like this to stop the trend of people who just want mainscape without TH creating irons then being upset about the restrictions they accept

haughty pecan
#

Right there is my point. Not everyone is creating an Ironman or going to OSRS to get away from Treasure Hunter. Yet there are people who do switch for that exact reason.

To even suggest this never happens is just being naive.

cold igloo
#

I could see adding an option in the settings to opt-out of receiving the random key token drops, since they could get annoying to constantly destroy if you aren't partaking in it. Though I don't think we need another account type designed just to ignore treasure hunter.

haughty pecan
#

There was another thread for this that had an option of opting out of Treasure Hunter. Yet Sam also said no in that one as well. As if having an option to not have it is just a crime against nature.

azure leaf
# haughty pecan There was another thread for this that had an option of opting out of Treasure H...

It's not a crime to have opt outs of anything I am simply saying it is not a plausible idea. It would only be used by:

A. People who intend to use it as a bashing point for when they don't get their way on the game (Make fresh alt and spam post on Reddit "This my my new account I refuse to play an account with TH access until you change this grrrrrr.")
B. People who don't read and figure out "Crap I did not want this" like they did with membership passcodes from bonds.
C. People who blindly follow those from (A.) and figure out "Crap I wanted to use my daily keys etc" then they opt back into TH.

haughty pecan
#

And I never once said that wouldn't happen. However to say those are the only types of people who do it is just wrong.

I know for a fact the first one would happen. I have seen gatcha games where the whales go and boycott the next pull. Then as soon as it is launched, they are the first ones to post their items they got.

#

I myself have no idea what the second option was about really. I myself was probably on one of my many breaks where I didn't have membership.

#

I myself just feel that you are ignoring the D type of people who would actually want a way to hide the interface or have a fresh account that doesn't have Treasure Hunter on it.

Yeah, one can just click the x and close it. Yet it does come back up on next launch, for those that completely close the game. While it doesn't take long to hit it, if it wasn't there that is one less window to close.

timid scaffold
#

If it popups on on start, why can't there just be a "don't show on startup" option in the settings

azure leaf
#

I strongly suggest you visit any other MMO with MTX in it and you will thank Jagex every single day

#

As I have said before having an option like this would cause many other things to happen example being: People forget they turned it off and people usually forget to use their daily keys people forget to do their 3 daily tasks for 3 free keys and one of the ways they are reminded to do so is that tiny box popup that is so tiny it literally does nothing to anybody.

#

You are trying to claim it will be beneficial to have something like this when it's just not the case

#

You literally click hundreds - thousands of times per session one click to remove something for the entirety of that session is not a big deal

#

The claim of "Having the ability to hide it on account creation would give people the feel of the game before SOF / TH existed" Is simply false having the ability to hide it until you choose not to hide it does not impact the game period

#

I don't know about you but I can't possibly imagine seeing such a change bring minigames back to life or fix PvP or reverse EOC to a point where it never existed and current content was developed around Legacy combat

#

I fail to see the direction you wanted this to go in

pulsar zealot
#

Smh It’s like you actively try to not have improvements for player strife

azure leaf
#

Just can't see it benefiting anyone ever for any reason

haughty pecan
#

I guess my main problem with you and this topic is the only thing you have done is talk about how people would abuse you. Not once have you said an alternate option other than what is already in the game.

Your most sticking point is the fact we click so many other things, what is click one more thing going to do? Many updates have actually happened that reduced how many things we click.

The one I can think off the top of my head is mining. We used to have to click every rock once it gets depleted. Now we just have to click every so often to replenish stamina.

The other suggestion with this was to make it where we have one less thing to click. Yet that was met with the exact same criticism here.

haughty pecan
#

Granted, I may have been too ambitious in my suggestion for a "No Treasure Hunter Character".

low osprey
#

Having more than one option isn't a bad idea. It isn't bad to not have.

Simply clicking an X doesn't make the notification goes away.

Nether does creating a whole new player creation.

To help players not wanting the TH notification without having to click daily is to have a setting option to disable it. It's called, QOL for those who do want it.

If it doesn't bother you, then don't select the option to disable it. (Works both ways from the horrendous discussion above).

There is already a tab called, "Upgrades & Extras" which allows players to play TH regardless of the TH mini-window being displayed. I don't go into that tab, so many players can too.

The option to turn it off from there would be a nice fit. Players can turn back on the notification as well.

The keys that you earn can be stored/saved in that tab. No physical keys (idk about it now been ironman for quite some time).

haughty pecan
#

We no longer get physical keys. I did get one doing an activity and I couldn't redeem it until I use some keys.
