Its been 7 years since it was last released. Please re-release the Shadow knight outfit!

The entire selling point of shadow cosmetic sets was not being available later down the line.
Needless to say this fomo marketing strategy worked at the time and most of them have returned on one of more occasions, literally undermining the identity of the sold product.

Jagex should be making every non tradeable cosmetic available for purchase. It would more than likely bring in more MTX money in as opposed to the junk that is TH

Do note i didn't downvote, the cosmetic was just sold under false pretense

#

Limiting such things in any capacity is silly "quick gains" marketing strategies

May have misread your original message. But my point still stands

And we all know fomo is bad

Definitely bad

My initial post was a bit unclear on my stance

The MTX and cosmetic teams need to just consolidate all the shops and just put out all cosmetics: old, discontinued, and current

Just re-release everything and anything untradeable

simple and it creates an inclusive environment for all players

They should re-release all party hats. They shouldn’t have been tradeable in the beginning

rich crest
# worthy nacelle They should re-release all party hats. They shouldn’t have been tradeable in the...

I have no issue with my hat being re-released it does not hurt me since I don't flip / merch but Jagex must take into consideration the pros and cons of re-releasing something tradeable.
-How many own them
-How many are invested in them
-What is the ratio for those who want them to return vs don't want them to return
-How many would quit because they get slapped for wealth due to a re-release
The list just goes on and on and these are all factors they must take into consideration when re-releasing something tradeable

Untradeables however can't be obtained through normal means so nobody is losing time / money investments with any kind of re-release unless you buy / sell accounts for discontinued untradeables specifically which happens far more than you could humanly imagine. Bringing untradeables back of all kinds is always easier and should remain the main focus for that reason.

The only way I could ever see Jagex re-releasing what people call 'rares' in todays time is if someone managed to dupe hundreds of thousands of them crashing their values to under 100m each and Jagex not being able to revert it which is a 0% chance so the only hope to see any tradeables return should never be considered for at least another Era or two.

At the end of the day you need to understand that OSRS holds the JMods who were working on the game during Pre-Eoc and long before that we here on RS3 have a whole new team and sometimes OSRS staff help out on RS3 but it's not their main focus RS3 is completely different and OSRS being rebuilt from the ground up they were able to go back and do all the things they once "Intended on doing" and do it in real time by bringing back rares / discontinued untradeables like they were originally meant to be. Also why you see so many inconsistencies on RS3 with re-releases since they just are not the same team.

Honestly rereleasing party hats and tradeable rares is a terrible idea. One, the original tradeable rares are only made rare by diminishing inventory and lack of rerelease. Releasing them again interrupts the game not only economically but culturally. These items being so limited and not being rereleased is what makes the longevity of the game attractive and nostalgic. It’s one of the reasons why I chose rs3 over osrs - because of my ownership of a red Santa hat and my return on investment.

Now newer rares are a special thing since they are actually associated with an artificially high rare drop rate (i.e. black Santa and phat). These have opportunities to be rereleased as Jagex already made them dumb rare and newer introductions to the game will very likely come in super small increments.

regarding non-tradeables, all of them should be reintroduced either through holiday events or the cosmetic shop (theres a lot that can be done for the shops but thats another topic). theres only a few that shouldnt be reintroduced and those are the merit based rares, like the fsw capes/pets/halo and DarksCape.

"Releasing them again interrupts the game not only economically but culturally."
-> Economically yes, culturally? No as far as that goes they were originally intended to return just never did so the only factor for jagex to consider is demand vs loss on the players end when re-releasing a tradeable of that value and any other side effects both good and bad that come with it.

"These items being so limited and not being rereleased is what makes the longevity of the game attractive and nostalgic."
-> Completely wrong in every way possible. Longevity is typically created by the player themselves example being un-official game modes forced onto an account by the account owner OSRS players do this all the time due to having creativity allowing them to remain enjoying the game in different ways for decades.

The game is attractive because it is nostalgic rares have nothing to do with that. This game was something we would all play in grade school / highschool and into adulthood it was one of the very few MMOs that was unique and easy to understand / play even with the most terrible internet and computers that is what everyone had back then and the game functioned perfectly for everyone worldwide no matter what you had or did not have. This game will always bring back memories not relating to the game just by playing it, visiting it or even thinking about it. It helps people remind themselves of things they did, things they have seen and so on.

"It’s one of the reasons why I chose rs3 over osrs - because of my ownership of a red Santa hat and my return on investment."

-> You chose RS3 because you only care about wealth and what you can get back from the things you have and represent like 300 people tops out of the 100k+ who play RS3. I know of hundreds of OSRS players who own partyhats, santas, h'weens, pumpkins, easter eggs, half wines, disk of returning

#

on RS3 and yet still use them on OSRS despite them not being discontinued there

#

Which brings us back to the mentality of the majority who sees and uses these types of things because they love and enjoy them and have a personal attachment to them

gloomy eagle
#

wrong. i chose rs3 for nostalgia. the rsh in my account made it more attractive to grind with my ROI.

#

and re-releases of any kind don't hurt these people

#

only ones who try appealing to others instead of themselves

#

Players on the same standard as you however would not qualify as the majority sadly which brings me back to my previous statement of Jagex needing to look at demand vs damages

#

if demand is high enough then they would do it. That simple

#

The sheer amount of people who own what people call 'rares' now a days on RS3 and still enjoy using the ones on OSRS despite them getting re-released every single year non-stop on OSRS shows what kind of demand actually exists

gloomy eagle
#

you have zero basis to say my position is or isnt the majority

rich crest
#

not a single person who genuinely cares or has any meaningful attachment to their hats / other discontinueds would care about a re-release

#

Your sole gripping point is "My return investment" which statistically is roughly .5% of the players

gloomy eagle
#

honey that was never my "sole gripping point"

#

and your estimations are just figures youre making up from thin air

#

theres actual impacts to the game by re-releasing tradeable rares. and there is without a doubt a level of achievement and nostalgia associated with ownership of these rares.

#

ask anyone who owns one and they can tell you where they were when they purchased their tradeable rare. these things are what makes RS unique. simply re-releasing them is troublesome. this couldnt be said for meritless non-tradeables

worthy nacelle
#

I think a yoyo flex is a bigger flex than a party hat and would be disappointed if they re-released that. Same with the easter ring. Re-releasing old holiday items that players hold in the same respect as party hats is still going to be “culturally impacting” players the same way re-releasing party hats would.

#

Im pretty sure when the Gold Phat promo was dropped a lot of players signed up or reactivated their accounts expecting it to become like the original Phats.

🤷🏻‍♂️ we even have a black one from last year. Why not just drop all of the Phats as the FIRST rereleased holiday item to make a come back

vestal quest
#

Pretty sure that would kill just about every single long time players investment in the game (mostly those with one)

#

That's like saying ur bank just declared your savings defunct

#

And considering that covers a non-insignificant portion of the active playerbase, i doubt jagex would pull something of that scale

#

Adding the new variants is already threading thin ice

Shoot i was a big loud mouth when it came to the prospect of returning to the basics of holiday events (i.e. you do the event you get all the cosmetics, no other gimmicks). We kinda are heading in that direction. Still not a fan of the bsh style rarity.

Why? It did nothing but create more clutter in diango’s and serve older players ego. Again these nontradeables don’t do anything and had zero merit to earn. Doing a goofy quest isn’t merit unlike say doing 10+ hours during darkscape to get the DarksCape or completing FSW to get the halo/pet/inverted capes. Giving access at limited times only benefits players, doesn’t hinder anyone.

#

Look at WoW. They are releasing cosmetics, mounts, and even TCG items for practically free at random intervals. It stimulates players to play and affects nothing in game. In fact the TCG content burns the people who upsell codes for ridiculous prices, which is a good thing since that whole culture is toxic af
