Not sure what you mean

sly onyx

If you use a Supreme Growth Potion (Leafy) on a herb patch and harvest that patch, you get significantly less harvest attempts before the patch clears than if you harvest it without the potion.

fiery badge
#

oh, support then, seeds and potions cost enough, basically is only good for farming favor as is.

#

I think you are unlucky on this one, i do not have the same experience on this

Without super growths i get 25-30 herbs per patch.

With super growths its more like 30-35

10 seeds both supercomposted.
I do not use the aura or the juju pot

sly onyx
#

I've tested it many times over the years, there's a noticeable disparity.

#

So much so that I have over 10k supreme growth potions in my bank waiting until it's fixed so I can finally use them

#

I'm forced to buy them because you can only have a maximum of 1,000,000 farming beans

sly onyx
#

So here's a little test I've been doing over the last day or so

#

On the left is the harvest attempts with the growth potion in use

#

On the right is the harvest attempts without the growth potion

#

The averages are shown at the bottom

#

All attempts were made using Erzille seeds and all possible farming boosts activate, greenfingers, ultracompost, juju farming potion, master farming outfit etc etc

#

I've not yet finished the 10 harvest without the potion (takes longer, obv) but the average number of gathering attempts at the bottom is showing a significant difference.

sly onyx
#

So conclusive proof it's crippling the patches, an average of 6.8 for treated patches and 11.1 for untreated, the potion is bugged.

zenith ginkgo
#

Something’s probably wrong on your end. When I grinded out Crux reputation I didn’t notice a deficit in output. But I’ll test it again tonight and post results.

celest thistle
#

Guessing he purely plant without compost

sly onyx
celest thistle
#

i didnt even use single ultracompost but judging your chart you simply plant then pot and repeat

sly onyx
#

So I lied when I said several days ago "All attempts were made using Erzille seeds and all possible farming boosts activate, greenfingers, ultracompost, juju farming potion, master farming outfit etc etc"?

sly onyx
#

No answer came the stern reply.

celest thistle
#

even you use all buff numbers doesnt match

sly onyx
#

Ofc it doesn't match, that's the issue

celest thistle
#

moment ago did 2 erzille patches with 4seed with potion and none of your numbers with potion doesnt match

sly onyx
#

with four seeds?

celest thistle
#

yes

sly onyx
#

well you've messed up, my tests use one seed per patch

#

so go figure you're getting more harvest attempts

celest thistle
#

so you just now mention you plant 1 seed of minimum of 3 herbs

sly onyx
#

The number of seeds planted per patch is irrelevant

#

the issue is that the potion is reducing the number of harvest attempts

#

if your response is "well just plant more seeds", no

#

that's not a fix

celest thistle
#

you plant seed and its show amount of seeds you plant and minimum of herbs

sly onyx
#

dude, forget how many seeds are planted in the patch

#

it has nothing to do with the issue I'm raising, you keep bringing it up and I don't know why

#

According to the test I did, the number of gathering attempts is significantly lower (almost 40% lower) when a herb patch is treated with a supreme growth potion

#

nothing to do with the number of seeds used

zenith ginkgo
#

Alright gonna squash this post's conspiracy theory.

Felstalk seeds x2 - No compost - NO potion - No other buffs/set bonuses:
Attempt 1: 12 Herbs
Attempt 2: 6 Herbs
Attempt 3: 8 Herbs
Attempt 4: 9 Herbs
Average: 8.75 Herbs/Patch

Fellstalk seeds x2 - No compost - YES Potion - No other buffs/set bonuses:
Attempt 1: 10 Herbs
Attempt 2: 9 Herbs
Attempt 3: 9 Herbs
Attempt 4: 7 Herbs
Average: 8.75 Herbs/Patch

#

There is no anomaly. There is no reduced gather rate with using a potion.

sly onyx
#

So what am I experiencing with the data I've provided?

#

Do I have to make a video showing the short lived patches compared to untreated patches in real time?

#

I'm seeing it with my own eyes, I've posted the data, I don't know what else to say other than there is a problem with the potion.

#

I'm not stacking these potions in my bank waiting for a fix for fun

#

Also you've posted the number of herbs you've gathered per patch

#

I'm talking about the number of harvest attempts

zenith ginkgo
#

Homie idc what you do. Your entire premise of there being a nerf of herb yield because of the supreme growth potion is ludicrous. Your data is invalid as two other people have not been able to reproduce it.

sly onyx
#

Because you haven't copied my methodology exactly

zenith ginkgo
#

It’s no more than anecdotal

sly onyx
#

you've went and did the test your own way

zenith ginkgo
#

I planted seeds and harvested the herb

#

There’s nothing more to do

sly onyx
#

using you own prefered seeds, own prefered boosts etc

zenith ginkgo
#

I used the bare minimum

#

Less variables

sly onyx
#

so you admit you didn't do exactly the same way I did?

zenith ginkgo
#

Exactly the same way of what? Using buffs?

#

The fact that I had less variables than whatever you did is more reliable data than your data

#

It was controlled

sly onyx
#

Did you ever think that a variable may be clashing with the potion causing the bug?

zenith ginkgo
#

There isn’t a bug

sly onyx
#

No, you didn't

#

1 x Erzille seed, ultracompost, juju herblore patch, master farming outfit, magic secateurs on toolbelt, juju farming potion, legendary greenfingers aura, dwarven harvester (double resource mode), 120 farming cape, scroll of life, pharmacology relic power, speedy growth.

zenith ginkgo
#

You’re basing your numbers on a multitude of buffs that can impact yield. It’s unreliable.

#

You’re creating too many areas that inconsistencies can occur

sly onyx
#

Except they're not inconsistent

#

I'm getting lower harvest attempts CONSISTENTLY with the use of the potion

zenith ginkgo
#

Sounds like an rng problem

sly onyx
#

I'll even tell you why it does it...

#

The potion used to be a different item, magic bean (leafy)

#

you'd buy it, plant it in a patch and it would grow into a random herb that could grow in said patch

#

you would only get a limited number of harvest attempts, much like the potion that replaced it

#

I know because I noticed when I bought about 500 and went on a planting spree

#

they were much shorter lived than using regular seeds

#

but then it got replaced by the potion, supposedly so people could use their own seeds instead of gambling

#

but the issue of the limitation on harvest attempts never went away

#

so now we have a potion that makes you used your own seeds and take the hit of a reduced number of gathering attempts

#

So there's some insight for you

#

I grew all of my own herbs for 200m herblore, I know my way around the herb patches like a rabbit going through it's den

#

so when someone says I'm doing something wrong or there isn't an issue, that gets a little annoying

finite blaze
# sly onyx So conclusive proof it's crippling the patches, an average of 6.8 for treated pa...

Whether you're right or wrong about this entire thing, a sample size of 10 each is nowhere near enough for "conclusive proof".

I just did a test of only using a single Erzille seed + ultracompost + potion and got 8, higher than your average with every boost.

I did 5 more with farmer outfit + legendary greenfingers + juju farming added.
I got 5,5,5,6,7 in inventory and +19 in the bank, so 47 total and average of 9.4.

So if you wanna do hundreds of tests and then claim proof do that, otherwise you low rolled w/ potions and high rolled w/out.

sly onyx
#

Ok, let's do another 10 and bring the total to 20

#

see if we can give the potion patch a chance to catch up with non potion

sly onyx
#

As expected, zero change with a doubling of the sample size, obviously there's no immediate data with the untreated patches as they take an hour to grow

#

It would be better if people would actually watch me do it, you can count the number of harvest attempts my character makes yourselves, watch me pour the compost, plant the seed, apply the potion and start over again

sly onyx
#

So more data, also some extra statistical information at the bottom

#

The treated patch average remains solid and the untreated average has decrease only very slightly with a doubling of the data set size

#

mode and median numbers also follow similar trends, this isn't RNG, there is a consistent underperforming of treated patches and a regular overperforming of untreated patches

#

I think it's interesting that the treated patch only reaches double digits (by the skin of it's teeth I might add) once

#

whilst the untreated patch does it THIRTEEN times and by some margin

zenith ginkgo
#

again this is very likely something youre doing to trigger this disparity. already three other people including me have tested this and have not experienced any deficits in herb yields with and without potions

sly onyx
zenith ginkgo
#

your methodology is redundant

sly onyx
#

Like I said, you're free to come and count yourself

#

stop criticising from afar

zenith ginkgo
#

pfft I did it with the bare essentials. You keep adding buffs, auras, potions, and item sets that is skewing your data

#

you also are keeping track of "gathering attempts" and not herbs yielded

#

so no one comprehends wtf youre even doing

sly onyx
#

Ok well then leave

#

if you don't understand, leave

#

I can't help you

zenith ginkgo
#

you can help by not being ridiculous in whatever this entire post is trying to achieve

sly onyx
#

You don't understand the issue I'm raising

zenith ginkgo
#

youre making up an issue that doesnt exist

sly onyx
#

yet you're criticising, and not copying the methodology exactly

#

and they claiming it's not happening for you

#

Leave.

zenith ginkgo
#

nah

sly onyx
#

So you're just going to sit there, typing away for the sake of pestering?

steep salmon
#

Are you testing for herb yield or number of gathering attempts?

sly onyx
#

Gathering attempts

#

I'm tempted to make a video demonstrating the issue, but I know some will stoop as low as saying "you've faked it"

#

The data is there in black and white

#

took several days to plot yet people who are calling bs aren't putting in even a fraction of the time and effort or getting enough equivalent data to prove me wrong

#

but then also say 10 tests isn't enough

#

but somehow less than 10 is ok when they need to contradict me

#

ridiculous

steep salmon
#

Well, a possible issue here is that from your post someone could infer that your core complaint is one of lower herb yields as a result of the potion and they tested for herb yield

sly onyx
#

I get that, but not once did I mention herb yields

#

I always said harvest attempts/gathering attempts, I said it in the first message of all places

#

I can't be responsible for people's inability to comprehend what has clearly been stated.

#

And if they can't comprehend that, then what chance do they have comprehending the data?

zenith ginkgo
#

who cares about gathering attempts? you are getting the same amount of herbs. no one is getting more xp from gathering attempts

#

this isnt a bug. nor something that requires a fix

sly onyx
zenith ginkgo
#

literally 3 people here have done so

#

youre being obtuse for no reason

sly onyx
#

the exact same way as me?

zenith ginkgo
#

dude your way doesnt make a difference when my way was the bare essentials. Seeds, a plain patch, and a potion

#

you get the same amount of herbs on average

#

youre making up some nonsensical variable of "gathering attempts" when youre ignoring herbs yield

#

which is literally what farming is about

#

not "how many times did my character make an animation to pick an herb"

sly onyx
#

That would mean that the number of herbs you earn is predetermined

zenith ginkgo
#

there is a range. and the minimum is predetermined by the number of seeds you use

#

also if you include buffs that give you the chance to auto loot all herbs at once, you have reduced "gathering attempts"

sly onyx
#

which would require some needlessly complex code to workout how many herbs you're given on each attempt to ensure that the number of herbs you get comes out the same regardless of a potion or no potion

#

but then all that claim from earlier about RNG

#

so is it predetermined, or is it RNG?

zenith ginkgo
#

dude none of what youre trying to get at has no bearings on the actual thing your gathering. You still on average get the same amount of herbs from the patch

#

you plant 1 seed you get a minimum of X amount of herbs

sly onyx
#

Looks like more testing is in order then

RuneScape Wiki

Herbs are items used to make potions with the Herblore skill. There are many herbs, each of which have a "clean" and "grimy" form. Herbs must be clean to be used in potions. Players can clean grimy herbs, provided that they have the minimum required Herblore level. The required Herblore level to clean herbs varies from one type of herb to another.

zenith ginkgo
#

a study was conducted showing that herb patches yield an average of 6.8 leaves (8.2 leaves, ignoring dead patches) per plot with optimum tools

#

The minimum and maximum yield of patches that grew to harvest was 5 leaves and 23 leaves, respectively. Theoretically infinite herbs can be harvested from a single patch since the total amount is luck based

sly onyx
#

Preliminary results, none treated patch numbers will take a day or two to obtain

sly onyx
#

Data so far for the untreated patches, as expected the treated patches are getting hammered by the untreated ones in both gathering attempts AND herb yield. An average of 9.1 herbs per patch when it's treated with the potion, and 14.8 for the the patch when it isn't treated with the potion. Still 7 tests to do, but this result is looking as solid as rock, I'd say the odds of RNG pulling a draw out of the hat by handing me 7 herb patches with 1 herb yield in a row is pretty much non-existent.

Feeling pretty vindicated right about now, though I'm not happy I had to use almost 40 potions just to prove the point. The claim that the gathering attempts don't matter and that the herb yields are always the same regardless of whether potion is used or not was straight up bs.

#

A little bit of maths projects the total number of herbs from the untreated patch to be ~250

#

A hefty percentage more than the 155 total from the treated patches

sly onyx
#

Final result, Supreme growth potion (leafy) is crippling the herb patch (juju with Erzille in this case) by reducing the gathering attempts and by extension the yields by 40%

I wouldn't bother with more data, the problem isn't the raw data its the trolls here that go around and play devils advocate/antagonist to any ideas

they don't have an opinion, only the opposite of your opinion
