#Make Every Melee 2H have 2 Range

In Combat beta, see how it goes. in game plz.

The simple niche of the extra range provided by not even just halberds but by the small number of melee weapons has got to go by becoming the standard for all melee 2hs. Melee no longer has any benefit to being close and exposed to extra damage as it did years ago. All combat styles now have the capability of doing high damage as much or even more than melee, the only problem is that melee is largely limited to doing so at the expense of taking more damage due to the proximity it is limited too. The only exception being when using a melee weapon that has this 2 tile range like the noxious scythe.

The jagex team is now planning to release a new tier 95 2 tile 2h melee weapon when melee already has more high lvl weapons than any other combat style. A new high tier melee weapon is unnecessary when melee already has so many, notably when they are looking to give effects and special attacks to the ezk and masterwork sword.

Range is crucial for gameplay and without this extra range melee is severely limited to the aoe damage it can do, notably when compared to the other combat styles, ranged, magic, and necromancy all have great aoe damage, but melee doesn't unless it has this extra tile range. Limiting melee to this only serves to weaken it and places it at the bottom when compared to all other combat styles, notably when it has little to nothing to gain from it.

Range 2h weapons give greater range than dw range weapons, and as long as melee dw offers greater 1v1 dmg, I don't see a major problem. Notably if it stays +2 range, it's still a risky distance in many situations.

there is a danger of homogenizing weapons with a change like this, i'm not saying the old weapon diversity update was stellar but it did attempt to do a valuable thing, give every weapon a place in the game's sandbox

it seems to me if this change went through, barring explicit weaknesses that create weapon niches onto themselves such as edimmu's slash weakness, there would be no reason to use scythe over spear of annihilation just as an example

more high level mobs with wild defensive affinities like armored phantoms and edimmu is a good way to preserve weapon diversity but its a fact that every melee weapon having the same range removes a layer of diversity that was there before, though whether a necessary layer is up for discussion

Melee needs a tradeoff for being up close and personal, though I wouldn't object to having a weapon class with significantly extended range in return for losing those tradeoffs. Maybe it can be a niche for whips? 4 spaces is plenty though.

#

Halberds and similarly humongous weapons (hint, zuk sword, hint) can maintain their niche as being 1 step larger range but being nigh-universally 2h only.

Maybe whip having a drag attack for lesser mobs on slayer mobs and such but you wouldn't use it as scythe is better sadly

I feel maybe high tier 95s having halberd is on but all 2h seem alittle progression streamline

Any such adjustments would obviously come after they figure out how to make a t95 weapon more appealing than a t92 weapon. Honestly, wouldn't mind them having an abyssal boss with a drop that upgrades the scourge to t95 so that direct comparisons can be made more easily, but meh.

I am surprised it doesn't already considering the longer the weapon, the longer reach it should have.

2H needs 2 range and halberds to 3.

All halberds are still probably going to be used because +3 is better than +2 and all the high level halberds I'm thinking of are dissed for their components.

1H needs to stay melee distance 1 range.

Extra range would help melee a lot

zuk sword is huge, definitely should have 2 attack tile range. same for zaros godsword tbh

modern slate

Yesssss all of them. Make melee great again!

Absolutely.

#

Or just make 1x range weapons only do a portion of the damage to 2x targets or make them have a capability to upgrade to 2 range if this is preferred by Jagex.

Massive bump.

I use Lana Spear as my melee weapon, the extra +1 range is the main reason while the cinderbane synergy is a nice bonus. Giving every melee 2H +1 Range, even if expanding current halberd-type weapons to 3 range, devalues current halberds since the main reason to use a halberd is safespotting or AoE Slayer. Safespotting only needs 2 range of course, while 3 tiles of AoE isn't much of an improvement over 2 tiles since monsters don't stack that deep very often.

# chilly copper I use Lana Spear as my melee weapon, the extra +1 range is the main reason while...

That is very true. However, imo they're only being devaluated since every other 2h would share the same range like you said. To be frank, from its onset the game always had too many melee weapons, and it makes sense since in reality there's a plethora. I suppose other effects could be added, but I don't believe this is very beneficial since the problem with meleee imo is that it has too many weapons in the first place. I would think it would be better for melee to have every 2h have this increase of range, notably at the higher levels, than to keep it restricted to just halberds just keep their niche, but perhaps there are better solutions.

There is potential to make all those different weapons work, but it has to actually make the differences matter in an interesting and useful way.

I mean, I get that people want halberds to remain special, but why isn't this the case for war hammers, battles axes, daggers, spears, etc.?

I don't believe it's necessary for every weapon type of a combat style to have some sort of niche and even if they do, by no means should it be anything major.

I mean if halberds have some effect, shouldn't also every other melee weapon type? Why should halberds have this sole special thing?

I'd say it's just best to make every 2h have 2 range and leave it at that. If anything extra is added to halberds then it should also be added to other melee weapon types too, or to none at all.

Agreed on not caring on halberds. The older system of making every type have a use was scrapped when they took out the weapon weaknesses.

Scythe can still be dissed for nox components.

The devalue wouldn't even be that much. A few hundred million? They aren't lengs.

All Melee2h should have 2 Range.

yeah i can agree with that tbh. i think id still like to see a revival of damage types mattering

I suppose their elimination was due to them being necessary to hit monsters, otherwise you'd miss due to having low accuracy. As we know that's a thing of the past now since you can never miss now.

I guess they could give different weapon types passive effects? I'm not sure I'd go with this route, but I suppose there could also be a eof sort of ring that could store different weapon passive effects.

This way players have more flexibility and aren't limited to specific weapons for these effects, yet each weapon retains some sort of uniqueness.

So new melee 2 range weapon is coming out. Idk, be best for all melee 2hs to just have 2 range imo

modern slate
#

y'know what, enough is enough. Not in Combat beta, just in game. All melee 2hs should have 2 tile range. Enough of this nonesense.

I agree.
