#Change the Key Token Limit

Currently in the game as you perform certain activities, quests, dailies, etc... you are awarded keys. At rare occurrences you can also receive key tokens while actively playing through skills or PVM drops. At a certain point though, there exists a limit on how many of these key tokens you can receive until you have to use currently acquired keys to "make space". Additionally, if you have reached the limit for key tokens your drop rate for key tokens appears to be increased (based off my observations), further exacerbating this annoyance. I understand that this is a way to incentivize players to use keys, but the cap on this should either be removed or increased.

I don't speak for all players, but I try to save my keys for certain Treasure Hunter events. And I don't think my ability to stack keys should be hindered by this mechanic nor should I feel like I have to choose between using up multiple keys to consume this token or just destroy the token in its entirety.

If this original option doesn’t suffice then an alternative ought to be that key tokens are removed from the drop table if and only if you are at the key token limit.

ideally they'd just remove all free keys, whether daily or earned through gameplay

#

as an MTX dangle I don't think it really matters while they exist

Jagex has 200m thiefing on all employees accounts. U used to b able to save up over 100 daily’s long long ago many many years ago. My friend did 1 dg daily a day till 120 from 99 dg. Not sure why it was changed

jaunty flare
#

you still can

#

you can save up to 100 skip tokens 😎

#

takes forever to use because you keep earning more daily challenge skip tokens

I think its bad people are able to save keys at all, I don't like the idea that one should hold out for the juicer treasure hunter events, namely because I never liked non cosmetic MTX to begin with but also because it is a textbook example of utilizing fomo as a marketing tool.

Your reading into my argument backwards, I'm suggesting if the keys were not stockpilable it would make the player base ask for or agree to less 'preferable events' since they would have less vested interest in them, let the whales have the interest in buying keys and arguing for crazy events but don't try and give the player base some false sense of agency with some extra keys

serene thistle
#

Your argument is: make treasure Hunter less appealing so keys don’t matter anymore. This is something that wouldn’t even be considered by jagex or RS3. And even if they did your resolution does nothing to solve the MTX issue at all. Keys earned in game will still have their limitations and still incentivizes people to buy keys for non tradeable cosmetics, xp multipliers, etc...

Let the player base get their free keys and use them however they want. Your “preferable event” and respective fomo concerns are a separate issue

@serene thistle Totally agree with everything you’ve said

narrow briar
#

yes of course. my argument is deemed "something that wouldn't even be considered by jagex or RS3" by the person arguing against the system as implemented by Jagex very cool.

Keys should disappear on reset, use them or lose them

that plaster just needs ripping off, players need weaning off being given free stuff all the time

Agree. Remove spoon feeding and free taste tests for good

Jagex doesn't want you getting the rewards from TH promos for free, they want you to pay for them. To that goal, they also don't want you stacking keys. Even if the devs agreed with this suggestion, it would never, ever actually be implemented. I would actually rather all free keys be removed so I never have to interact with this gambling simulator ever again.

we are all deviating from the point. The suggestion is removing the limitation on the rare ingame earned keys. This has nothing to do with "removing MTX or TH/keys" in its entirety. This has nothing to do with HeroPass.

There shouldn’t be a meta behind holding keys for optimal events, they should be something you get, use and be happy you got rewarded for

#

If any changes were to be made i think just adding a toggle for whether or not you get key tokens is the better route over just letting people infinitely stack keys

serene thistle
#

Who cares if it creates a meta

#

People shouldn’t be forced to juggle inventory for something they got as a loot drop

#

Let them do as they please

#

It all ends up in the same trash lotto rates anyway

If that would appease the masses then sure. Remove the drop if you’re already at a key token limit

I never did get why earned keys have a cap, or why earned keys and bought keys are seperate categories (especially since you can 'earn' bought keys by buying bonds or doing their survey stuff)

The biggest real difference I can see is bought keys require someone, somewhere, to make a payment. You get them through actual purchase, bonds, or promotions which are ostensibly paid for by the promoter. Earned keys are "no purchase necessary"

serene thistle
#

To create an incentive to use keys and subsequently buy keys for when fomo kicks in

serene thistle
#

bump - Based off recent observations it seems that the frequency of key token drops appears to be increased when you are at this key limit.

jaunty flare
#

Sounds plausible but I highly doubt it

celest pelican
#

I think you just get periods of receiving more keys
I often dont get any but then in a week I’ll get 2-3 a day

serene thistle
#

Would love to see a breakdown on the limit and drop rates from a jmod

jaunty flare
#

it is probably consistent such that sometimes you have dry streaks and sometimes you get a lot

#

with a cooldown to limit getting excessively lucky

There should be no limit on earned keys.
Treasure Hunter Key tokens past the earned limit should be claimable, not force-fill up inventory with only an option to destroy.

Alternatively, stored somewhere unannoying and unintrusive to gameplay (such as deposit under/next to where keys are usually stored with "earned usable keys for this promo" "total earned keys" as extra key categories, maybe total earned keys unlisted in the key count as they are not usable) with a limit on how many earned keys can be used on the same promo at one time instead of a limit for claiming/earning and inventory spam and a tooltip (I'd prefer no limit but as I don't know how Jagex money numbers are, I'd take it if they went with this alternative)

#

Justification in a nutshell: my guess is that Jagex is making the trade off of milking a few who drop money on TH cosmetics or the chance of people not noticing the obvious bouncy chest for possibly losing subscriptions, losing premier club subs, new players, and preventing the number of the few who drop money on TH cosmetics from increasing- and to make unclaimable key tokens and limits is their method. I think that new players and new people to drop money on treasure hunter will probably pay out more than the loss of allowing people to save keys and that the bouncy chest is pretty obvious

With the alternative solution where earned keys deposit with the rest of the keys for total earned but there is a limit on earned keys you can use per one promo in one go, I don't see Jagex losing out much on revenue and it wouldn't be such a negative QoL issue for us players. The bouncy popup chest is visible enough.

I explained at length when I made a dupe of this, since I searched and somehow managed to not find this thread? :S

Like at least I want the key tokens out of the inventory.
