#Make a delete account option

other than getting your account hacked and deleted :/
I believe this already exists. Jagex had to add the option for mobile
Hi Juga, thats really an excellent question. Runescape has always been a game where players leave temporarily and then come after years of inactivity. I know if I quit and deleted my account, some years down the line I will log in again. I am sure most of the playerbase will agree with me.
There is an option of disabling your account. I am not sure if that counts as deleting it
Proof?

Damn lol this all makes me want to suggest REMOVING the ability to delete an account.
Is there a lot of hoops you have to jump through to get it deleted? Scariest thing a hijacker could do to your account
It's not there
It's existed for years so if it was going to be an issue I imagine it would be known by now. Jagex asks for more information than "usual" for data requests and back when I did it I think they wanted photo ID
Unless they have my photo ID to begin with, what does provided a photo actually do?

Your name, and serves as a deterrent to someone just up and deciding to try it on a whim.
My name's tied to my account? Some people pay for membership through bonds they earn in-game. Some people have their parents pay for it; typically kids. Some people simply don't have membership and play the free game. I don't recall a first or last name being required for creating a RuneScape account. And by recall, I mean I just checked and I can make an account right now without one.
realistically, a photo-id in this instance would only make compliance to more GDPR bits rougher; and only act as a confirmation to potential address used for billing purposes in the past (which billing addresses can be different from where you live, work, or temp reside at)
so, it would only be a deterrent to minors or people who legally don't have an extra form of ID. (my uncle for example only has a US Passport)
It is also possible to pay for membership with in-store cards that can be paid for in cash which really allows for anonymity.
now, if jagex had a "verified" status, like the old twitter verified function; where you had to provide an ID/Work documentation, then that would be different; but, using a photo-id as a reasoning in the past was also mostly used by people who wanted to do ban appeals for RWT, which at that point they could just get it from the account owner, falsify/photoshop one, and realistically never need it.
and for a game, realistically, it's not needed. just the request minimums is enough to be allowed to follow through.
The “option” is not really needed. There’s people that play this game for years and quit and come back. You never really quit RS, circumstances make you leave and when things change you come back. The delete option is prone to heavy misuse resulting into losses which I don’t think any “business” would want.
I'm sure they know how to use discretion depending on account status. I imagine most people pay with some identifiable payment method
Most, maybe, but definitely not all. And even if someone does- there's no proper way in place to guarantee that the person paying the bill is indeed the person who owns the account. Spouses can end up paying too.
This is the bigger issue at hand, nobody will quit if we can't delete our accounts. Seems like a great update to me
