Shooting down helicopters is not hard. Hitting an RPG maybe in most scenarios, but that's alright, because it rewards skill, and allows the helicopter to survive for more time.
If lock on rockets were added, then helicopters themselves would be buffed with flares and rockets to keep up and not get constantly shot down, making them oppressive like in Battlefield 2042 for no gameplay benefit.
The thing is less skilled players have a very hard time shooting down the helicopters, I think it would be fair to have a counter to these overpowed vehicles.
Support players can shred heli's if they chose to
Just 2 of them firing at a heli is usually enough for it to back off or have second thoughts
This would benefit gameplay. Would add new style of playing, adding depth to vehicle gameplay, new ways of skill expresion. Completly new gameplay loop. New threats to inf and to vehicles.
You may not like the idea, but such addition would very much benefit gameplay, especially on conquest
But unless we get gunships/attack helicopters, any form of AA missles should not be added, because destroying helis is alredy very easy
If helicopters are easy to shoot down, then there's no point in using them. They already are a mild threat and more of a quick transport option.
Besides, most guns already deal a lot of damage, if multiple people shoot at a helicopter, they'll have to retreat, which is what often happens already. Typically if you see a helo smoking or on fire, it's because they got badly damaged by the infantry.
Then there are snipers sniping the pilot.
You forgot about APC
check this out
I don't know why no one's fighting with me against the helicopters, it took me 7-8 lives to hit him once with an RPG.
Good question. Sometimes they don't, sometimes everyone does and you can't do shit. Depends on lobby. But why that is, idk.
Probably the more aware players, they do that more, and a lot of BBR players arw bots
lock on anything is a bad idea. either it will clear the skies far to easy or be worthless. maybe if Flares, Chaff, and/or ECM jammers were a thing then maybe lock-on AA could be a thing, but not before then at the very least.
