#Film grain

I like it tbh, it does a good job in reducing the already overly visible enemies and scenario
Before the film grain it was exceedingly easy for me to spot people from way farther than i should, and never have any use for higher magnification sights
Right now it seems pretty fine, it's also very cinematic imo
Besides the functional reduction in visibility that felt pretty needed, it kinda grounds the game a bit more for me, it gives things a slightly more grimy look than they used to have
For the love of god, let us disable the film grain. It feels like my eyes are going to bleed!
This. It's very unpleasant; at least make it able to be disabled, or some sort of opacity/magnitude slider.
I'd give it a bit of time tbh, it does have a balancing function(which is probably the reason you can't toggle it), and it's much tamer ingame than in the menus
What is the balancing function?
BBR is currently way above similar games when it comes to visibility, mostly due to the simpler graphics
The film grain does some work to mask players that are distant enough, or hiding in rocks, windows and assorted things(the reason that leads me to believe it's a balancing choice is it not being toggleable)
It reduces the long range effectiveness of short sights(which previously were some of the most effective and with least drawbacks options), makes cover more in line to what one would expect when it comes to concealment, and gives players a reason to use binos, longer range sights and overall makes spotting, targeting and tapping people from super far away not as easy
I would chuck it out to being just a random added effect, but we DO have options to remove many of the effects we have, so the lack of off-toggle here suggests it is indeed done for balance
Because 30% of the lobby being snipers isn't bad enough
Snipers aren't really the issue here, what this does is give most guns an incentive to use bigger scopes, which you would rarely see even on guns like Scars and whatnot
This can also work pretty well as a sniper nerf, considering it's coming along with the glint, it might well be here to prevent snipers from saying 'fuck it' and equiping their bolt guns with red dots
If the snipers wanna be able to properly see you from far way, it's not going to be as easy as it used to be, and the glint is still very visible, so saying this is a sniper buff couldn't be farther from the truth, if anything, it's gonna be just as easy(or easier) to see snipers because of their glint, while it's harder for them to see you
Idk man, looks really fucking bad
Wait there’s Film grain?
I don't think most people have even noticed so far tbh
I think it looks pretty but that's personal opinion
it's definitely harder to see things, imo. if this is what the devs wanted, then it's doing its job, but not sure if it really feels good to have.
i might be extrapolating over too much here but i've heard plenty of talk of people being too easy to kill from far away without any commitment to the range like scopes and whatnot, if it is intentional for that, it's doing a pretty good job of pulling the visibility down to a battlefield-like level
Im probably gonna try the game w/ the new visuals tonight, how bad exactly is it...? does anyone have screenshots showing it off?
eh, it feels fine
Also keep in mind lots of new visual effects didnt have toggles immediately on release. Could always be a case of that prehaps?
could be as well, but if it is, then it might become a bit of a noob trap when the toggle is added
Ah I see it. Yeah if it isnt that faint i don't think it would be an issue
Lookimg at the screenshot, idk if it would add much in terms of reduced visability... But i haven't seen it in motion or played with it
it mostly only helps for when you're greatly outpacing the usage of a scope, like trying to kill people at 400 meters with a red dot
Like I imagine if visibility were an issue, better shading and the like
mm thats fair. I honestly think camera sway should just be increased with lower zooms
The decreased fov is the tradeoff there
you get to see more at the cost of increased sway, not super significant but enough to throw off "sniping" efforts
hmm, i can see that working well too tbh
i can't be the only person that likes it ain't no way 💀
I'm personally not a fan of visual effects in games along these lines mainly cuz there's always the handful of people who vibe well and dont vibe at all w/ it and effectiveness varies
exceptions being like in games with dark areas with cell shading, where its physically impossible to see in the dark and stuff like that, vs just making everything darker and letting players see if they turn their gamma alllll the way up
(weird example i know)
I guess what i'm trying to say is, some people are gonna find ways to work around the static, and for others its gonna be impossible to play with
I already got a hard time to realise if people are enemies or not because the camos are all the same

Yea, this film grain thing is, not pleasant to me at all.
It has been last update too. But then there was a system global chat message constantly telling you how to deactivate it. This film grain is 99% not even intentional
+1 fuck film grain
oof
On my monitor, I dont know what it is, but the film grain literally feels like ants are crawling all over the walls. It is SO OBVIOUS its borderline unplayable distracting. The MOMENT I hopped in game I looked for a setting to remove it. PLEASE add a way to remove it. If you wanted to change visibility this is NOT THE WAY. My friends dont really notice it on their monitors, I dont know why, but on mine I literally cant see anything else
@humble wedge if you have sharpening effects on your monitor and/or gpu, I imagine it could exaccerbate it?
That or gamma/contrast tweaking
None, Im screwing with settings right now seeing if I can make it go away or make it go less, but I dont think so. Im running NVIDIA GTX 1080 so I am playing with the nvidia settings. I just simply cant seem to make it any better. Ive heard people say high refresh rate monitors dont have this issue, but im running 60 hz
I imagine you've checked if sharpening is on the nvidia settings? What about antialiasing?
I imagine FXAA or maybe other AA could make it feel wonky if its done on top of the static effect
Nothing. Its all running stock right now
please!
Honestly its the loadout screen film grain that is far too much. Especially after just pushing the skin update people are going to be staring at every single gun, reattaching stuff and picking patterns while wondering why it looks like they are popping painkillers
My eyes are vibrating
Bruh this shit is so annoying like can we just not have this or at least turn it off
Like Perma squinting your eyes
Looks horrible on my 240hz monitor too (game usually runs at 140-160 FPS).
Day 4 of this shit irritating my eyes oki when fix pls ill give you headpats
It seems I was wrong, oh well
