And well, computer, these lines are infinitely thin.
So, in a 3D environment, you gotta cast a ton of them
But after you get all your bases covered, you can make it denser if you wish.
More lines, means a higher chance that one of those lines finds it's way through a small crack and hits a player
Actually, yea, when I think about it, they probably have this much more optimised. That player count it quite high.
Maybe it checks to see if players are within grenades radius in the first place. If not, it won't do a ray cast.

Simply creating a 'Kill Sphere' would be broken. It would go through walls, as the sphere would simply ignore them.
If you made a sphere that morphs and changes based on the obstacles it encounters, that would become an even bigger strain on resources than raycast
(It would also technically be just a super high resolution version of raycast)

Building the PC yourself is pretty easy, the only thing I may suggest to watch out for is static electricity and that some coolers come with the thermal component already applied (so try to do not touch it)
