#Excessive Lag from simple Create mechanisms

Modpack: Beyond Depth ver11.7.3

Hello, all! I'm currently using the Budget 10gb RAM plan to host the Modpack "Beyond Depth" for approximately ~12 people, out of which only 5 to 6 are online at the same time.

Recently, a fair while into our playthrough(We just entered the End), we noticed excessive lag that resulted in Watchdog Tick-exception crashes. This was almost entirely attributed to the chunks of two particular members, who had Create mechanisms set up on their Claims.

One of which was a simple Create Andesite and Iron farm, one of which wasn't even active and was entirely turned off - yet, when a different member got close enough to even load in said chunks, the server would begin to lag heavily! Is Create simply like this as a resource-heavy mod, or did we do something wrong? And, are there steps we can do to perhaps resolve this issue that isn't just "Don't interact with Create"?

Many thanks,
Sevvy

(I should note I entirely disabled the Watchdog Tickexception by setting the value to -1 recently, as in literally like 5 minutes ago, but the lag and whatnot still remains an issue!)

That doesn't reduce lag, it just prevents excessive lag from causing the server to automatically restart.

dapper palm
#

Indeed! Which is why it's a hopefully temporary fix, as it was literally impossible to play due to the Automatic Restarts ;-;

!spark ⬇️ Recording internals while the lag is happening is the best place to start.

Spark
How to provide a Spark sampler.

  1. Stop your server.
  2. Download Spark: https://spark.lucko.me/download
  3. Upload the mod to your server:
Filemanager > mods (for modded servers)
or Filemanager > plugins (for plugin based servers)
(Just drag & drop the file)
  4. Start the server.
  5. Use the command /spark profiler --only-ticks-over 70
  6. Wait 10-15 minutes.
  7. Use the command /spark profiler stop
  8. Copy the link it generates and paste it here.

Ah! Thank you!
I'll report back once the server restarts/the rest of my friends come online and start putting Strain on the server

Would a Spark Profile Log ran on a near empty server be of any help, or would it have to be in a laggy enviorment (Like 4~6 players online at once)?

How am I so blind ;-; I apologize

As for the crash, it might be a Minecraft bug or a misbehaving mod... but something added or removed items in a list of Entities while something else was going down the list to process them.

No easy way to know what caused it. The pack authors may know if it's a common issue.

dapper palm
# dapper palm Nevermind...server crashed before 15 minutes was up. Crash Log:

Heya! So I ran Spark, but the server wasn't really laggy while it was being run, so I decided not to send it right now - I'll wait for the members with the aforementioned Create builds to come online and run Spark when they activate their contraptions.

In the meantime, the server crashed once again! The reason of crash is worded quite similar to the previous one - could you skim over this one as well and see if this is the case?

If both crashes were caused by similar issues, I'll go ahead and report this to the creators of the Modpack in a single Forum post!

sharp ore
#

Looks like it's probably the same crash to me, yeah.

dapper palm
#

Thank you! I went ahead and wrote a report to the Modpack Forums.
I'll post the Spark Reports in here once I get the Create mechanisms up and running!

dapper palm

Hello!
I ran the Spark Profiler - is this sufficient information, or would I need to log a Laggier time?
https://spark.lucko.me/ich3nZaJoZ

spark is a performance profiler for Minecraft clients, servers, and proxies.

View-Distance was reduced to 6, but Simulation Distance (redstone, Create contraptions, mob AI, etc) is still at 10.

#

Also, there's 1150 Connectible Chains being wrangled, all in one region (8x8 chunk area)

dapper palm
#

Ah! Let me reduce both to 6, and tell that member to use something other than connect able chains

sharp ore
#

Beyond that, nothing major is jumping out at me. The chains don't seem to be a huge cause of lag, but that quantity is probably excessive unless they're building a Mumbo-style walking machine.

#

Zombies and Chickens are the biggest mob hits. Make sure if someone has a chicken farm that they use vines to disable collision checking or keep it to a 1x1.

dapper palm
#

Oh..! Thats. Actually me. Huh

#

Let me kill them off and confine them to a 1x1 area, same with the other animals

#

Thank you so much!@

#

Should I close this ticket now, or keep it open for the main issue of this post? (Create, which i wasnt able to test this session)

sharp ore
#

You can keep it open until you can get it solved.

dapper palm
#

Thank you!!

dapper palm

Oh! I wanted to ask, when I used the Spark Profiler, apparently our server had 5.8GB Allocated, when I paid for 10GB RAM! is this due to the ~4GB being necessary to run the Operating System and whatnot, or do I need to manually increase memory allocation?

sharp ore
#

No, Java uses what it needs, up to the max. It just hadn't needed more than 5.8GB since starting.

dapper palm
#

Ah, gotcha

dapper palm
#

Actually, uh...directives have changed, my friends want to play a different, way more stable Modpack(Prom2) now

#

I do need to archive the world file and send it to a few players, but asking in advance: How do I reset the server? The big red button in Server Settings? Do I have to change the installed modpack beforehand?

latent badger
#

If you want to reset the server entirely, when picking a new modpack, pick the option to delete the files 🙂

dapper palm
#

Thank you! And sorry for the bait-and-switch of the topic at the last moment ;-;

latent badger
#

No problem at all 🙂

dapper palm
#

Oh!! Went ahead and changed our server, and it's mostly fine! There's some slight lag and jitter but nothing serious at the moment, so I'll close this. Thank you for your responses!!
