Just bought a server and installed paper 1.20.1 through the panel and now I can't start server.

It is. It's also risky. So unless you know how to read Java crash reports and submit patches to mods, I recommend sticking with what's recommended for the Minecraft version you're on.

It's a Fabric server. Fabric doesn't know what plugins are.

LuckPerms and WorldEdit go in mods. EssentialsX will not work.

You'll have to find an alternate for that.

First - Optifine doesn't work great in Fabric. Use an Optifine alternative like Fabulously Optimized or Simply Optimized.

I use a Fabric client to connect to a Paper server regularly.

You just have to pick only stuff to put on the client that doesn't need to be on the server.

And Simple Voice Chat is even built to go on a Paper server with Fabric clients connecting.

It's both.

#

It has to be on the server, and anyone who wants to use it has to have it on the client. But it's optional for players to use it - so you can have it on a Paper server.
