Then you'd need to pick whatever Bukkit implementation did exist that you want.

Looks like Paper never released a 1.8.9. They didn't even start until 1.8.8, and skipped to 1.9.4.

I mean if you want to run a plugin, you need to run something in the Bukkit family.

Apparently there isn't a 1.8.9 server version - it was a client-only patch.

Bukkit is the project that defined the "plugin" specification.

Spigot, Paper, Purpur, Pufferfish, Airplane... They all only exist because they build on top of what Bukkit started.

Bukkit as a server type doesn't exist anymore - but that specification is still what Spigot and Paper start with today.

You can, but older versions of Geyser won't work.

You can try running the server on Java 17 - but Minecraft 1.8 wasn't built for that so it might fix Geyser and GriefPrevention, but break Minecraft itself.

That will work for GriefPrevention, but either 1.8.8 runs on Java 17 or you need to not use Geyser.

Server doesn't care about resource packs.

#

If you want it to tell players, "hey, download this", you need a link to the pack hosted somewhere.

It's an older version of Grief Prevention - the command may be different.

Also, it may not be available without using a permissions manager.
