So I'm trying to play some modpacks with my girlfriend, but she's having this issue for some reason. We've tried everything, but it won't work for some reason. We know it is KubeJS bc when we remove the mod it works perfectly

Forge is not the smartest. The criteria it judges 'version differences' on is not just the version number, but also what registry objects (like items and blocks) exist.

This means that when you add custom things with KubeJS, Forge can sometimes show a version mismatch error with the exact same versions shown on both sides.

The simple solution for this is to make sure that the startup_scripts folder is the same on client and server.

So I'd have to send her that folder and get her to replace it with the one I sent?

finite fossil
#

yes

heady wren
#

Alright we'll try that

upbeat owl
#

are you using curseforge?
it often doesnt install packs correctly

heady wren
#

Yeah we use Forge

upbeat owl
#

yeah this issue is pretty much exclusive to CF

heady wren
#

Well, I download the pack, then send the code to her to share it and she downloads it from that

#

Doesn't matter if she downloads the .zip file tho bc that also never works

white carbon
# heady wren Yeah we use Forge

Forge is a modloader. Curseforge is a website and launcher. Two different things.

There's also Neoforge, another modloader.

heady wren
#

Yeah fair, I just shorten Curseforge to Forge-
But yeah we use Curseforge

white carbon
#

OK. And you're 100% certain that when she downloaded the .zip from your startup_scripts folder, she unpacked it into the same place? Or did she just put the zip file itself in the folder?

heady wren
#

I sent her the code of the modpack from CF, and she downloaded it from there. It's worked every other time with any modpack that doesn't have KubeJS

#

The weird thing is, it's JUST with her. I've played the exact same modpack with another friend as well

upbeat owl
#

CF just doesnt always copy all the files correctly, not sure why, its been a bug on their side for years

#

we always recommend better launchers like Prism

white carbon
#

OK, well, as Lexxie said, sometimes CurseForge doesn't deliver all the correct folders, like the startup_scripts one. Can you check that you both have content inside your .minecraft/kubejs/startup_scripts folder, and if not, send her what you find inside.

heady wren
#

I sent her the files and asked her to replace it. I'm abt to grab dinner tho so I'll let you know how it goes

heady wren
white carbon
#

Yes.

upbeat owl
#

same and more

white carbon
#

It can grab modpacks from Curseforge, FtB, Modrinth, etc, and will install them with much more consistency (not missing or dropping files), and still do multiplayer on servers (or with Essential, if that's how you prefer to do multiplayer) even if the other person is using a different launcher.

heady wren
#

Ahhhh perfect

#

I'll check out Prism then

upbeat owl
#

just noticed it had a 10.0 release lol

white carbon
#

If you're interested in the history of Prism, it used to be PolyMC before the developers had a disagreement. PolyMC is discontinued, but was the same thing. And before that, MultiMC, but again the developers had a disagreement. Basically, each time the name changed was because someone was kicked off the development team.

#

Honestly I just want shit to work easily 😂

white carbon
#

Well, that's what Prism is here to do

upbeat owl
#

ye prism a lot more stable and reliable

white carbon
#

Oh, and unlike the Curseforge app or Modrinth app, the Prism app has no ads on it.

upbeat owl
#

and you have a dedicated cat button

heady wren
#

Alright I'll definitely look into it then

white carbon
#

Yeah, here's what mine looks like at the moment.

#

Mine are either all from Curseforge, FtB, or custom made by me or my GF

white carbon
#

You can also change which cat appears in the background, too, although that's purely cosmetic and has nothing to do with how minecraft runs.
