This may seem stupid but if I need to change the crafting for a sword would I use shaped or shapeless?

shaped
shapeless is only if you don't care where the items are positioned in the grid

like firework rockets can be made by placing gunpowder and paper in any slot

would it still be able to be crafted on the left or right side of the table?

If you leave out the two unnecessary columns in the shaped recipe, you can craft it anywhere.

So instead of this

You would use this

"X"
"X"
"S"

I think it doesn't matter, cause kubejs Auto shrinks the pattern iirc
