#[Reproducible][0.14.4.9] Thermostat (too warm) turning ON heaters on base and on my ship

I had to manually turn off the heaters. I tried reconnecting their signals multiple times to different thermostats.

I think this might've lead to a mass extinction event on o-klg.

Can you upload a save so the devs can look at it? sometimes a save and reload of ostranauts can clear some of these stranger bugs. It's not an issue i've run into yet in my run.

## About savegames
__Easiest way to find them__

The easiest way to find them is to:

  1. Launch the game
  2. Open the Options menu
  3. Click FILES
  4. Click the button next to SAVES to open that folder in your file browser.
  5. Select the resulting file.
Where to find them

In Windows, they can be found under APPDATA\LocalLow\Blue Bottle Games\Ostranauts
In Linux they can be found under $HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1022980/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/Blue Bottle Games/Ostranauts/Saves

What's in it?

Ostranauts keeps a folder for each save (Captain Joe, autosave_27_captain_joe, etc.), and in each folder are at least one zip file and a few other files:

  • saveInfo.json - save metadata like name, dates, etc.
  • portrait.png - a snapshot of the captain's face
  • screenshot.png - a snapshot of the ship
  • <folder name>.zip - a zip file containing the latest save file for the slot/captain
__How to share save files__

If you wish to share a save file (e.g. for reporting a bug), usually the best way is to upload that zip file to a file sharing site like Google Drive/Dropbox/OneDrive/etc., set it to be visible to anyone with the link, and share the URL to that file.

Oh, sorry, was the same save I uploaded to my other bug report so didn't think of it. (Also, I think loading might've fixed it, but here you go.)

[0.14.4.9] Thermostat (too warm) turning ON heaters on base and on my ship

Run-away heating at oKleg port again, here's a save that appears to have preserved the issue after save. (I just hit save the moment I saw the problem and it seems to have persisted through complete app shutdown and reload.)

  • I've confirmed that the heater is hooked up to a thermostat and that the coolers are also.
  • Also, you can follow the heat gradients around the station to confirm that the heater near where I'm standing in this save is the source of the heat.
  • You can also confirm that heater as the source of the problem by manually turning it off and watching the heat decrease.
  • It heats up fairly rapidly too, so you can watch it go higher and higher in real-time
#

Hopefully that helps. Best guesses for causes:

  • I've slept and been doing a lot of fixing up, so I've been here a while.
  • I MIGHT have started after transiting from Comercial to Port - so might be a zone loading issue (heater instantiating before thermostat and turning on, then not getting any signals? / etc.)

Ok, now the heat just runs away to infinity and causes a crash...
I even tried installing 3 additional coolers (2 in my ship, 1 in the actual station) and it's still running away
something is terribly broken...

#

(This is all heppening from the attached save)

#

Opened the side airlock (well, the 2 doors in the lower-left) to let out all the atmosphere, still heated to above 400k...

At this point the game is unplayable, so I'm moving on and coming back in a few more patches...

I have also experienced run-away heat on KLEG. When I closed the app then reloaded an earlier save and the problem did not replicate. I did save the game while in the broken state.

In the broken save, KLEG temp is still rising and my ship doors are open as I tried testing to see if the ship's coolers could slow the temp rise before I saved the game. No luck. When I do close the ship back up, it cools off as expected.

Save file version: EAB 0.14.4.9
Played: 6h 11h 16m 40s

Mods: I edited some of the meat related .ini files about a year ago and those changes seem to have persisted across multiple uninstalls and reinstalls of the game. I've even emptied the save folder before deleting and reinstalling the game.

This game really needs a "reset to unmodified" button that will clear everything out of the game and game state history. That button should also probably also offer a checkbox to wipe non-standard settings from all saves. Or just offer to wipe all saves period and indicate it may be necessary to fix the game's state if required.

It looks like I am unable to upload the save file without a paid subscription. I'll see if I can find a better compression format.

Update: No love, both .zip and .rar are just over 50mb.

I would have suggested RAR or 7z

If you haven't already tried this: Unpack the ZIP from the save folder and RAR/7z its contents - that's all that's needed

Here's the .zip from the save folder. Let me know if the .json file is also needed. Thank you for the info by the way. It never occurred to me that the save file inside the folder was already a .zip.

Confirmed reproducible
tested on : win10pro us, closed beta .1, no mods

Repro as described on slymonster's save; drak's seemed normal aside from the dead bodies, but I did have a crapton of yellow errors (attached)
