#Gigs for station repair/maintenance

Honestly this is great, it fits in world, we'd just need to make a system to properly detect restores, and/or new kinds of repairs that are easy to binary detect whether it's been done without like, dooming the station the second we spawn it in lol
What do you think would make more sense from a player perspective?
One big task that has to be completed like "fix up this broken machine"
or more average/grouped repairs like "take this zone in the station from average of 75% to 85% fixed"?
I'd say a little bit of both, myself.
or, "there's some full o2/n2 cans in storage, those cans there are empty, go swap em out
with the added detail that you could've gotten into that area before and stolen the cans, essentially forcing you to go buy new cans to complete the gig :D
that would require backend rework for giving player the permission to uninstall modules on non-owned stations without getting arrested/shot
true
i had to seduce/murder all LEOs on oklg for them to stop harassing me
and sometimes pay $15000 to uninstall modules
Also, as someone noted elsewhere, the priority that NPCs use for replacing those gas cans on their own is way too low, resulting in them just never doing it.
Hmm, I like it, I could see it working for non-essential repairs on the station, otherwise you run the risk of NPCs dying. Id like to expand this to nearby NPC ships, like " help there's a hole in my ship and I'm trapped in a pressurized closet", or other scenarios like no fuel, broken thruster/battery/nav etc. maybe a way to haggle price to make friends/gouge for money
I think the per specific task makes more sense and should be easier to know what it is you're supposed to do, and what exactly needs to happen for completion. I don't know that there's any current mechanism to highlight arbitrary tiles/items but that would probably be necessary when you get a gig that says "repair these 12 floor / wall tiles in Mescaform".
Having per item/tile gigs should also make it easier to keep the AI from freaking out at you when you're on the gig and touching the things you should be touching vs trying to use the gig to steal things.
repair XX hp of things on the station
I would argue that it should be profession specific (or clearly state needed work) otherwise player might get stuck in a situation where they can't do the job because they don't have the skill or tools.
- We urgently need an electrician, lights in <this wing> of our station are flickering, we will pay premium!
- A <cargo section> of our station was leaking, we sealed the leak, but someone needs to fix those walls properly.
- Our <computer terminals> caught a network virus during last shift and our tech support is at Venus, buying components. Please fix those terminals, we will pay extra for recovering last shift's documentation.
- <Ship Name> is effectively stranded, their RCS is too erratic to attempt docking and pilot isn't rated for EVA work, go there and fix it.
regarding the ship stranded event - can also add a flavour text that "our tugs/haulers are currently busy"
i think there's already some backend code that detects worn out modules (at least on oklg) - that directs npcs that are maintaining the station to them
Or 'do not wish to pay for the hauler, those service rates are a robbery')
since we;re talking about repairing npc ships, this would not apply (also for me for some reason oklg stopped offering out of fuel help 😭 )
We are talking about a mission description, not internal mechanics, and as far as 'lore' is concerned it can be a private hauler or from a rival corporation.
SPEAKING OF hauling - would also be cool to have hauling gigs, if you have tug braces installed!!!
