#[0.13.0.04] Spontaneously moved 5000km west

Three times now, I've finished salvaging a wreck and then went to NAV to find myself 5000km west of my previous position. It's always 5000km and it's always west. Weird. LMK if you want a save.

Ok now the SOB's moved me FIFTY THOUSAND Km west

This sounds a little like you're pinned in place as OKLG drifts away to the east. So it might help to get a save where this is happening to see if there are clues why.

Got it! I'll get a save next time.

ok so i maaayyyy have gotten it

#

you can see that relative v to kleg is like 50m/s but im moving away at like 1km/s if i look at the range

#

it may have coincided with this exception

#

as soon afterwards i noticed the starts moving rather quickly in the background

#

checking nav and sure enough im 1500km away and gaining

#

save incoming

#

i wonder if it has to do with the meat spreading outside the ship or something

#

as soon as i undock from the wreck both the wreck and i stop moving away at 1km/s

I'm also experiencing this. I haven't checked to see if it happens on ships that aren't meat'd up but it does seem like everytime I notice that it has happened was while being docked up with an infected ship.

Tested some more. This seems to happen as long as you are docked with a ship that has meat present on it, even if you aren't advancing time. Ganymede and the other static objects will just start jumping ahead in space as if they were moving very, very fast. Doesn't happen while freely floating in space or docked to a derelict that is free of meat. This only seems to affect the static station objects and certain derelicts as it seems like the other NPC ships and most derelicts will be left behind with you.

Has anyone figured out how to get both you and a derelict to k leg when this happens? I cleared 100s of tiles of meat to get this ship, but I'm already like 4000km away and it only gets worse when I try to return.

I'm also getting that error about meat spreading on the game tick that I saw elsewhere (I'm in bed now I'll get a pic when I can) and was noticing that the derelict and I were kinda stuttering along when using the fixed point view rather than ship or target. The station was moving much smoother. Makes me think we're not moving left, just that our target is moving right and we no longer are, like dcfedor said.

Did you guys notice it happening on ships with an active infestation? I didn't really notice until after I cleared mine, granted I didn't pay too much attention. On that same ship I had both a stack of floor panels and a stack of meat that I couldn't interact with (both went away on restarting games) and a locker with one unusable slot ||which I kinda assume is how the meat spawns|| that I was able to scrap.

So now that I'm not half asleep, I have some more info on this.

  • I removed all of the meat from the ship's internals and there were no hull breaches that would have caused it to escape into space (if there were, the ship would just be full of meat again by now anyway)
  • I looked through the json file for the ship and saw that there was still a bunch of meat tiles in it, so I went back into game and punched a hole in the derelict to see that space was full of it.
  • I removed all instances of meat tiles (leaving the loose items from combat just to see) and checked if I was still drifting away: Perfectly in sync.

I think that pretty well confirms that meat was the cause and I can only assume it has to do with that error from wiggly's image. Like the error is preventing orbital movement from being calculated or something.

If anyone wants to remove the meat from their ship after they clean out the inside, here's the regexes to do so. I used Sublime Text 4, so if you don't have that, they might not work.

To clean "aCOs":
(?sm)^ {6}\{\n(?:[^}]+?^ {10}\}){1,2}[^}]+?tiles/Meat01/ItmMeat01(Horn|Hoof|Eye)?Sheet[^}]+?^ {6}\},\n

To clean "aItems":
(?sm)^ {6}\{\n {8}"strName" : "ItmMeat01(Hoof|Horn|Eye)?"[^}]+?^ {6}\},\n

that's assuming you want to save yourself (and your ship isnt already consumed by meat, though its not -supposed- to spread to your ship)

Just out of curiosity, is anybody still experiencing this in 0.13.0.11?

#

I'm currently trying to repro this using the save above, but so far, it looks like things are behaving as expected.

#

It's true that in the save above, we are moving away from OKLG at about 1km every 20-25s, but that actually makes sense given our VREL is ~50m/s.

#

But we are not drifting when the game is paused, and I'm not seeing other signs of weirdness.

#

There's a decent chance the null exception seen in Meat spreading above was related. It could've caused the sim to not fully update each frame.

But if anyone's still seeing this, and can repro it, let me know!

What has kicked it off for me was working at speed in a meat ship, uninstalling etc. Then suddenly (seemingly) being catapulted away from the system, without any NPC impact as a catalyst. I have a few meat ships I haven't touched in my current playthrough and can test it.

Ok, maybe I'll chip away at the meat in this save file. Thanks for the tip!

Hmm. Still no big moves after 1.5 hours. I'm about 60km further than when I started.

#

I'll put this one on the shelf for now. If anyone notices this still happening in 0.13.0.11 or later, let me know!

I tried to see if I could replicate the issue. Docked with a meat ship and spent ~20 mins uninstalling stuff, queuing up a bunch of different orders and the ship stayed in place correctly. 🙂

randomly fixed!??!

honestly havent had it happen to me and i generally work on meat ships around 4x speed because my characters usually exhausted.

.... that said, again, once the meat spreads outside the ship, its basically a lost cause for attempting to contain it.
