#Ship Parts can be DROPPED to occupy the same space.

This one's a particularly tricky issue, as we added this exploit to solve a related problem (lost/ghost items).
Any thoughts on what you'd expect to happen here? E.g. "Drop" just fails to work?
Error message: "No space to drop item" would be the best solution, I guess. Even tho I will miss dropping those 3x3 reactors on top of each other
Yeah no space to drop, or maybe better yet, the item drops and space fits within a certain range (5 tiles?).
Yeah there needs to be some mix between the two imo, the ability to put stuff down, but i shouldn't be able to stack hundreds of items on top of one another. Maybe cargo containers that can hold extra space to be representative of some form of stacking.
How about a container to store packed (uninstalled) item?
Yeah that's what I was getting at. It could take a solid amount of space itself. As is it's a little odd to jump be dumping thrusters on the floor of the bridge.
The freighters have "cargo space" in the form of large floors, which itself seems odd.
My workaround: when your character is close to where you want to drop the item, open inventory, select the item from the bottom right of the character (where the "character is pulling item" icon is normally) and drop it in the ground "intentory window" where you want it. You can rotate it and do a better job at "tetris" in your ship that way.
Maybe when you "Drop", it opens the ground window and automatically selects the item. Then the only thing to do is rotating the item and place it on the ground if room is available. If no room is available, it could be put back to the character inventory slot.
Oh, right, you still CAN do it that way - I'm noting that this is an evident bug/exploit, and it invalidates the requirement to get a bigger ship.
I think a fun way to keep this in as maybe a "feature"; have any part that is stacked take damage when acceleration occurs. that way its like you just threw all the parts in a loose pile and there just flying around the cabin. this would also add a little realism without hurting gameplay.
also, another part of this bug is that it seems the drop button lets you put stuff in doorways as well.
That would feel far too tedious imo. Personally, I'd much rather not be allowed to drop than have to make a conscious effort to make sure nothing overlaps (which can already be hard to see sometimes).
The other thing would be what about crew hauling?
That could hard-lock people; you can't move with an item in-hand, and if you pick something up where there's no place to drop it (think grabbing a 3x3 piece from the corner of the ground), you can't do anything till it drops.
If in this case, if you were hauling a 3x3 item and had picked up a 3x3 item from the 2x3 space, you'd be SOL; no way to replace either of 'em.
