You mean a obvious evil business person?
I'm not saying they're good but that's what they are
Twist villain is a bit far fetched in Gen 8s case
Probably
Giovanni is also on team abusive parent but he was just like absent so :/
I wonder how multiplayer will work
Probably with connecting to rooms via passwords or something
Imagine you're shiny hunting and someone just kills it
All that stuff might be local, idk
Multiplayer seems to be just go anywhere you like in the same region as the people you're playing as so I think we all know what's coming next.
Pokémon Servers
That's right welcome to Hypixel Pokémon
90% sure, yeah
As if gamefreak would be able to have everything be connected in real time
I highly doubt the game will be optimized for four player battles
Two people will have to sit out each time
That would be so typical
I could see it working like PokeMMO, which yeah would be typical
I doubt it's local honestly
How would that even work?
Connect 2 switches together or smth
wdym, we have had local multiplayer since the 70s
So
Online but without online
They would not be stupid enough to advertise multiplayer so much and end up with that
You sure?
I think I might be using the wrong sorta word. What would be the term you'd describe a game where you can see other players playing but you can't really interact with their instance of the game
Did they say it would be online?
Oh and also given that gen 5 remakes are coming up
Gimme in-game Genesect sometime soon
Like Sw/Sh?
Is that how it works in Sw/Sh because I wouldn't know
True
This combined with Legends Arceus' "stay out of the ball and stand here" thing would be so cool and immersive if they could pull it off
We need more "Mewtwo in a cave" shit like we had in Kalos
Yeah it's basically like in Fromsoft games
You just see them running around a bit
I bet in battle even if a Pokémon is following you you will still throw their poke all out
And it will break immersion
I have no idea why they didn't take battle mechanics from Arceus and just add on the normal stuff
True
I love when legendaries have unique dungeons and stuff
Last few gens just had this more simplistic hunt where you basically get all of them by just, looking at the one place made to get all of them
It was like this with the latios sky in oras, with the ultraspace in sm, with the isle of armor in swsh
This open world region is probably gonna be a circle
I want the legends to be like the Regis in gen 3, hidden away and you have to find them
I can't image a good open world without a jump button
Gen 3 Regis were unexplained puzzles
Like evolving Galarian Yamask
I'm not saying to use the same convoluted puzzles
I think the big problem with legendaries is that they seemingly want a way for all of them to be catchable
And since there are more and more as the years go by they start to have to make more "general" ways to get everything instead of having a thought out experience for each
I was talking about you having to go on a safari to find them. Instead of the gen 8 approach of "hey, just go do the main story and you get them all for free"
With calyrex, the birds, and the new Regis they had that
The caves were just for the old legends
The urshifus also had a quest line to get them
One of the big upsides I saw in cutting the dex is allowing old legendaries to just not have to appear somewhere so they can feel special
But then literally all of them came back in the dlc so congrats ya did nothing with it
They didn't. The regis especially. A clearly marked stone monument with a grade school-level puzzle isn't exactly what I would call a safari
No one was going to bring a dreadnaw at level 27 holding a focus band at 3PM unless the dataminers said so
A grade school level puzzle is the level for their targeted audience
Their audience is 50% adults and even calling it a grade school-level puzzle is giving it too much credit. You literally just step on the floor and you are done
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHH
Also I am not talking about making the puzzle a completely impossible-to-figure-out chain of events.
Don't kid yourself, 99% of pokemon's audience is 5 years old
We only want to believe otherwise to feel less lame about liking kid stuff
You must enter a lab and leave your switch running for 9 real months so Mewtwo can form in the vat and you can catch him
The average Pokemon Go player age is 25
Also tbh
The original regi puzzles were far from impossible
Ya just had to do real research, as in, translate the messages to braile
Do you think kids use their real age in phone games?
No, they use their parent's acount
I think you overestimate the amount of children playing Pkmn games.
I only got my own google account at like 15 and everything before that was in my mom's
I'm 100% sure the pokemon go statistics are just that
The vast majority of players were kids at one point surely, but I think that has changed drastically. People grew up on the franchise and a lot of them are still playing
Also Pokémon go doesn't reflect mainline games
Of course adults are more likely to have phones and go out into the world to get Pokémon
Kids wouldn't have much option other than school and home
Eh. Just seeing the demographic shows the interest of the adult world in the franchise. It doesn't fully translate but you can extrapolate trends from it
Also yeah, I've been 37 according to nintendo and Google since I was 10
Go is targeted towards and older audience
I was born in 1991 on Steam
The characters are older and most trailers include people in their teen years and up
I am not saying anything about the target audience of the games. I am talking about the actual audience
Adults play PokeGo more because it's for them
The mainline games are mostly played by children
So using Go data doesn't really help for mainline
The adults is not where the money comes in
If it really was, then SwSh would not be a switch best seller
It's a kids game. Kids and families are all that matters. Not a bunch of losers on the internet like us.
You assume that without any data to back it up. Whatever, I concede whatever argument we had
The data is the fact the games are successful at all
I also assume that Sesame Street Monster Music has a child audience, guess that's illogical too
Half of the adult fanbase has hated the franchise lately
and the buy, and buy, and buy anyway
Most of the people who played the old games as kids grew out of them
Cause it's Pokémon
Same with those idiots pumping money into Diablo. They say they hate it but do everything in their power to support it
Cause they know it will go away if they don't
And if it's gone it can't get any better
....???
"Let's support bad practices because SURELY that will make them never use them again!"
Yes that is true
That happens
It has happened with nintendo like 3 times over
when has it happened
- Makes game
- No one buys game
- Doesn't make the game again
This isn't nintendo but it happens a lot with Sonic
Can we talk about the funny olive and le pig instead, or anything else that's probably not this
yeah
I saw some people talking about Lechonk's dex
Muscle pig
It would be cool if abilities had effects in the overworld
Like bug types stay away if you have lechonk out
Chibi Robo Ziplash
Starfox Zero
Literally all the pile of single game franchises nobody cares about
Or Magcargo leaves a fire trail
Some of them have done so before, so it's not out of the realm of possibility atleast
Yeah but those were player activated
I mean like automatic things
So abilities seem less like something that only exists in battle
I doubt any of that will ever happen outside of Snap
Right now abilities seem less like a feature of the world and more like a gameplay mechanic
While moves and stuff have slowly been integrated
Also I have a hood idea for replacing HMs
It would be neat in general if pokemon had dynamic effects in how they move in the world, not even from a gameplay perspective either - If magcargo left a little trail of scorched grass wherever it went that'd be awesome
Instead of moves you just have a list of Pokémon that can break rocks, or cut trees, or swim etc
Then if you have a Pokémon, they can just do it in the overworld
But that's probably too much thought for game freak
That still means you have to have certain Pokémon on your team
The lists would be pretty big
I think having items to do those things would be better
Like 400 Pokémon or so could do each thing
Okay thats maybe a bit too big lol
Over 800 Pokémon and not even all are garunteed to be in game
With dex cuts it would probably be closer to 200 per game, and within those 200 different lines are included
That doesnt change the percentage
If 400 mons can cut trees, thats pretty much 50% of all mons. At that point its barely even a roadblock at all anymore. Just a pointless thing stoping you and forcing you to spam a for a bit
But I like the idea of you just needing to have a mon that can technically learn an Hm without it actually needing the move
I just think forcing you to have certain Pokémon on your team isn’t good
Because they've been phasing those sorts of roadblocks more and more, i wonder if they'll even have them at all in this game with it's non-linear stuff
I would like that
Needing certain items and stuff is a staple of open world games
Like botw
Items are different from Pokémon
In BOTW, you get all your tools in the beginning
And bam
Nothing more, you are done
That comparison doesn't really fly at all here
Nah, you gotta come back with ancient arrows and the runes for some parts unless you use glitches
Also BotW only requires you to get the runes and paraglider and then you can do whatever you want
OK, but those things aren’t required to beat the game
You get all the runes in the beginning and ancient arrows aren't really needed for anything. Stuff like the thunder helmet are just story items.
Botw also doesn't have team building stuff right
And the Pokémon stuff wouldn't be either
There is a inventory system
And your weapons break
The quest items for the divine beasts are
Nope
You can go straight to Ganon
The thunder helmet is the same thing as the silph scope in gen 1, not like the HMs
You just have to beat each Ganon blight in the castle before Calamity Ganon
You're telling me I didn't have to spend hours clipping in?
lmao no, you can literally beat the game in the first half an hour or so glitchless
Well, you might need glitches to do it that fast
Since the great plateau takes a while
You definitely do
Yeah, travelling time would put you near the 1 hour mark
I forget, did gen 7 have cut trees
Also the fastest speedrun is like 24 minutes
No
It has rocks to smash and boulders to push though
the boulder push one was always a bit weird imo
Ye, so like I feel like those trees wouldn't even work that well in the design of something open
Gen 6 made them into large thorny bushes
Huh
I guess that's about the only way you could do it, that makes sense. I still imagine those won't return here
If they do include roadblocks like that in SV then they'll probably not be things you need certain pokemon to get past them with
It'd be tools like the SwSh bike or Ride pokemon. Not neccesarily those exact things but in terms of function that's what I'd imagine
I am hoping for a less linear story in SV tbh it being open world gives me some hopes, or perhaps even just a story lined up more like Legends cause i liked how the story progressed in Legends felt less linear even though it still was just hidden
I think it felt like that because the story was a byproduct of you just doing your job in the survey corps
Yeah, i want a natural feeling story lmao go figure
||apparently you can do gyms in any order||
I am hoping for a less linear story in SV tbh it being open world gives me some hopes, or perhaps even just a story lined up more like Legends cause i liked how the story progressed in Legends felt less linear even though it still was just hidden
Lol
||So it will probably be like BOTW where there's a main objective and then a bunch of stuff on the side you can do towards that. I imagine a legendary would be Ganon, but idk if Pokémon can fill out a world like the BOTW creators did||
I don't think if will be quite that similar
ShSw had a story it was just shit even by Pokémon standards
A energy problem waaaay off in the future is not a good reason to possibly destroy your home
He thought he would be able to control it
That game did not have a story and you cannot convince me otherwise
The evidence that it was a bad idea was literally everywhere
Its just a random cutscene here and there where the other characters repeat the same Sun/Moon animations and rotate around
Sonya didn’t do a whole lot to figure it all out
The story was you gotta beat the gym leaders
My favorite moment was when Hop caught a legendary by throwing air at it
Truly one of the moments of all time
My favorite part was when Hop said it's Hoppin time and turned into scorbunny
I liked Hop as a concept for a rival but he missed a lot for me lol
I hate that I laughed at that
Made me tear up deep inside
Especially the dialogue when you OHKO all his Pokémon and he says it’s a close one
Or when he says type advantages
Pokemon had enough rivals, they should try a new setting and concept that requires new archetypes for once
Like what? Friends? Like XY? 😂
No, just play in a setting where there are no gyms and no rivals and no professor etc
The friends were still your rivals in some sense
Pokepark
They could start by turning them into actual characters and not just fodder for the player
Reoccuring characters that want to kill you horribly
That's what the spinoff games are for
The mainline games are games be doing this stuff till the end of time
That would basically break mainline Pokémons things lol people got mad at them for the trials and then later liked it but still lol
People said the same about BotW though and that did extremely well
But I guess big ventures like that are better for spinoffs. Like PLA was
But zelda i feel has a less fickle fanbase lol not saying it couldn’t work for Pokémon i am saying I don’t see it working
Zelda also doesn't really have side games other than warriors and the rhythm games
Most of the titles are just different timelines in main continuity
Zelda didn't break the program at all ever since Ocarina of Time
Trials are still waaaaaay better than the gyms in any gen
I believe links awakening was pretty different
The biggest issue with changing anything in Pokémon is how small of a company Gamefreak is
Trials were wack and wasted honestly
just no
I really liked gen 6 gyms
Rock climbing, roller skating, a spiderweb
Cool ideas
It even had a ride for one gym
Gen6 had good stuff
Only gen 8 gym that for something that cool was the wooloo one
Ah yes, rooms with 4 teleporters in them, how inovative
I liked most Gen8 gyms even if the puzzles were simple
Wasn't that only the fairy/psychic one?
~only~
Sabrina flash backs
I wish they were more than flip switch or step on rock
Gen 6 gyms had nothing special about them imo
Complestly interchangable to gen 1 2 3 4 5 and 8 gyms
its not just about the puzzle for me
as a whole
only gen 7 had cool gyms, especially the 2 v 1 totem fights
I think tomate is just bored with the Pokémon formula lol
The leaders themselves were quite fun too
Trials were literally just walking to the boss and fighting them
Lol
Fighting means using confuse ray and then winning
I'm pretty sure gen 5 had very similar swing mechanics
I liked what trials were attempting to do if you added more interesting puzzles i might have been more interested in them lol
I couldn't get past the ice puzzle in bw
The trials were only really different by name and number of them
That's just a remaster of an old game though
Thank you for summing up every single pokemon battle in every single pokemon game
Totem 2 v 1 fights could actually be hard and made you think differently
Better than spamming a single super effective move against every gym leader ever
Idk i never struggled with totems fight either and still basically spammed super effective moves, i can see your point i just don’t think it was executed as well as you believe it was lol
Nobody likes pokemon for the gameplay anyways
It's just conceptually good and that's all that kinda matters in the end
Trying to argue which game plays better outside of competitive is kinda useless
Maybe I'm biased because I've only played gen 7 with crap teams and without z moves, which actually made it really fun and challenging
I didn't even have a level 20 till like trial 2
And it was easy
Just used leafage until it died
Then when I got razor leaf I used that
The issue was the support Pokémon were often the same element meaning if you could deal with the totem you could deal with the support
At least raihan had strategy
Some I don’t remember any that made a difference lol
other than scizor with the dragon guy
The support mons also didn't do much
If they used helping hand then it would be hard
But they just did tackle and stuff
I think the electric totem brought in a drizzle mon lol
The grass one had a Castoform, which was
Castform needs a buff
some did have helping hand for sure
Never used it in my playthrough
castform is perfect as it is 😤
Mostly because they didn't heal much so they died fast
True
It should have been Raihan's ace
Since he uses whether
But it’s trash in battle lol
Raihan disappointed me his strategy dies in the championship matches lol
Fair
not every mon needs to be competitively viable
I wanna use the weak guys
Lol
PU exists for something
😂
Although I wish there were some official lower tier tournaments
True
Playing through a pokemon game with lucario, tyranitar and snorlax just sounds miserable to me
I much prefer using spinda, comfey and furfrou
I think my winning team was my starter and the route one marsupial
I don't catch many Pokémon on my playthrough
Only really do so if I need a type advantage
Or if it's dwebble
I just use what looks cool
And also Raichu
Raichu is cool lmao
well of course youre not gonna ever run into a challenge with your overleveled starter then
I used alolan raichu in my Moon and ultra moon play throughs while it died a lot it was fun to use lol it has no bulk
I skip all the trainers and Pokémon
I'm always under level
The only Pokémon I put work into leveling up was Yamask cause I learned his evo method was funny
I am always under levelled as well lmfao
Minus SwSh in which I purposely over levelled and had a level 100 G rapidash cause lol
@stray terrace Post it here with spoilers please, if that's okay. 🙂
Oof
Rip
poor dude
LMAO
Finished the Koraidon sprite from Smogon, so it'll be getting QC now. Gave it some alternate palettes for fun as well. 🙂
Looking good
You know that instead of going for alt palletes like that for the shiny version, it will only be smth like the tip of its dick a slightly lighter skintone and nothing else
So many missed opportunities with the shinies already, I have zero faith in gamefreak
The only thing I hope for is that Smoliv's shiny should be black
I like pretty much all shinies in gen 8 exxcept galarian Farfetch'd
The only thing's that Corvinight's shiny could be even whiter but it's not that important
Morpeko should have had the switch colours
I find people disliking shiny galarian Mime and Rime but I like them
Eh, maybe not switched, just more obvious change
No, I mean the colours of the Switch game console
I personally don't quite like when colors are just switched with galarian birbs being one exception
LMFAO
Ok that quickly became genius
I want more variety for some shinies, like
Blue or black shinies for fire types and autumn shinies for grasses are too popular
Black olive Smoliv instead of just making it orange would be amazing
I wouldn't mind it if shinies deviated a little more than just colours either
A different type of bulb on ivysaur or smth
But now that we have regionals, that might be too much
I can see some mons having more cosmetic forms, Arbok for example
They said that there's more than 20 patterns for Arbok but the only thing we can see is that how they're slightly different from gen to gen
While anime and manga has different patterns like happy, angry, crying, etc
Would be fun if your old Arboks got different patterns depending on which old game they were transfered from + some other patterns found in a new game
I know right, new Shinies are depressing. 😦
Man, true, I really love stuff like that
If every pokemon with spots or stripes could have a spinda-like algorithm to make em all realistically unique it'd be so awesome
Even if it was just like, 10 variations each mon instead of almost infinite
I mean honestly I don't see why they can't do that
Especially if it was only on Pokémon with a very apparent pattern
Because it would just be the Spinda algorithm
That would instantly make so many meh mons so much better in my eyes
I think that uniqueness is exactly what Pokémon lacks currently
Because at the end of the day you can't look at your perfect EV shiny Aegislash or whatever the fuck and go "that's mine" because the only indicator of that is the fact your username is in its description
Which brings us to the Crux of the matter
Folks I've gathered you here today to tell you your Pokémon are NFTs
This may come as a shock to many but it's true it's all true
Not the conclusion i wanted to reach
That's Why they're called NFTs
It's a typo
They're actually Mon Freakable Ts
The T just stands for T like when people just have the middle name J
Not Fully evolvTed
I like in arceus that there are size differences
And the wurmples have horns and stuff
I wish mons were just slightly different every region
Would also make regional dexes more valid
It'd be cool yeah. I think the anime has moments like that too
Yeah, Misty and Brock say stuff about the Pokémon being different here or something
If Pokémon cared about game freak as much as they do to the animation studios the games would be so good
What are you talking about
I think in the PLA trailer the wurmple had a yellow horn on the back of its head rather than the usual pink, but it seems the ones on the game's release have the usual horn, unless there's some sort of unique wurmple in the game that has one? idk
Ah right, that was a mess up like how one Ponyta didn’t have a tail in that 24 hour livestream revealing Galarian Ponyta
In the trailer it was during the section that talked about variants in Pokémon
And missions for gathering different samples
i dont like them bc they're british
||seems like quackxly will be more humanoid than decidueye||
Galarian Mr Mime makes me wish Alolan Sandslash had gotten an evolution too
Because being able to use eviolite might make it half decent
Steel and ice is NOT a good typing but I suppose nothing with ice is
AlolanSandslash had to be banned because it was so good
wait
There is no Galarian sandslash
Lol
Slush rush is a good ability tbh
they didnt do those back then I think?
They didn’t
Any ability and Pokémon combo would be toxic if used right
I..
don't think I like pokemon anymore
bad for u, they're cuties
my body is not bready for this level of punnage
Small olive and chunky lechon, I don't see the problem
Smoliv does sorta teeter on the edge for me but I do like Lechonk's name wordplay
Wait, is a lechon something?
after a google, I'm forced to accept lechonk as a good pun
Lechon is a baby Pig in Spanish
Is funny Pokémon for me, like Slowpoke by example, not cool, not cute but funny and lovable
Le chonk also sounds French
¡que precioso!

onk in lechonk is also close to the word oink
Which is yknow what pigs do
Also i always forget pawme exists or whatever it’s name is lol
nobody talks about it
Well. If you follow the Leaks Pawmi is a popular topic now
pawmi is just charizard pikachu
Yes. And talking about how many times evolve or not
||Spoilers for pawmi evo stuff. And I heard it will be three stage. I hope so, the leaked second stage looks worse than the first||
If it's an unofficial leak and not your personal speculation, please don't forget to hind it behind spoilers
We find it not fun anymore and we will stop sharing.
1371
an end of an era
OK
Wasn't particularly fond of these leaks anyway
I mean I preffered them over getting told everything
it was more interessting en when someone cracked the code it was hype
The riddles were bad imo
The goodness of the riddle didn't really matter to me atleast , more the fact that he put time in it and that people were creatting discourse of of them
I guess so. It got people together. I just wanted cool riddles tho
instead of: here is a 20 page leak with story spoiler, every mon in the game and 50% of the staff's credit cards
would be cool if some actual codemaker/breaker made a riddle leak thing
there is a vacuum now
Khu's a vile person too, he's just throwing his toys out of the pram because the new leaker is getting all the attention because they... actually leak stuff. 😂
yeah khu wasn't a nice guy, he did the riddles for the wrong reason I suppose, more for his own fame and glory than to help create a community....
And he just gets angry and ragequits when someone solves and posts the riddle answers as if that wasn’t obviously going to happen
What does pram mean?
This new leaker really about to release the game early
I had to stop following Riddler Khu cuz that way I had too many actual leaks in my feed instead of just fun riddles
The riddles this year were mostly just language checks
Yeah idk if I'd call his riddles "fun" to begin with
Was following this account just because it was the most reliable source of pokemon leak stuff, never actually liked the person running it
Half of their tweets were just them bashing Centro and posting screenshots of redditors being mean to them
And the riddles were really obnoxious. I say this as someone who designed puzzles for a student newspaper. 😂
Although I've never been good at solving riddles.
I just absorbed his stuff through a third party youtuber so I didn't see most of his non relavant posts
I refuse to go on Twitter
Well the riddles themselves never really revealled anything that good to me. Like, most of the info we actually know from Khu about this gen are from confirmations and him answering stuff, not the riddles
He posts cryptic images that no one will get and then he's forced to give out info to prove he has a source
The only riddle I've seen from him that goes past knowing another lanagauge is the computer bug one
But I guess that just needed a coding language knowledge
Which normally comes from him being flattered (because he's an egomaniac and that works easily) or pressured by people more willing to just be normal and give the info outright. 🙂
Also, Khu backtracked when he was likely wrong about something, leading to the term ||Regional Fakes||, which I still don't entirely understand but people are latching onto it. 😦
||the regional fakes term is so dumb, and I really hope that vampire jiggly puff isn't real. It's barely a pallet change||
||Regional Fakes I think are just Khu getting confused, because people are saying now that the Diglett one isn't even a 'Regional Fake', and is its own thing based on a garden eel. 😮||
||As for Jigglypuff, that's rumoured to be based on the Past/Future Variant mechanic. That definitely makes sense, though I'm with you on it being far too plain. I'd give it tribal marks like the one from the anime, at least. 😅||
||the ammongus looks quite cool, though if it really is based on convergent evolution, I would expect it to be a bit more different.||
||Don,t remember where I watch them but I like thing that regional fakes are Pokémon similar but unrelated like Poliwrath and Seismitoad or Tauros and Bouffalant||
||Something like meowth but it's a dog or staraptor as a different kind of bird would be xool||
||Ammongous and Jigglypuff are the Past/Future variant, nor regional fakes. But all is very confusing||
||I think Khu called these regional variants at first, but had to backtrack when he realised he was wrong. So he made the term up, even though it's something that's never had a term before because it doesn't need one. Timburr isn't Fake Machop and Bouffalant isn't Fake Tauros in the same way that Mimikyu is a literal fake Pikachu. 😂||
||And Corphish isnt’ a fake Krabby 😅. But is a good way to know what we can expect||
Speaking of Corphish, we've still not seen the region it's said to originally come from. Same with Yungoos. 😅
And Cufant. 😮
I doubt that one day we can see it…But Maybe in a Legends of Kyurem game could find an Unovan Yungoos 😅
