It is interesting. The game doesn't really do a great job with showing their revival.

My interpretation of it is that their ressurection is linked to time-based magic. Kieran has the masks when he punches their tomb, and the masks contain tera crystals which seem to have the power to warp time as seen in the secret cutscene that happens when you bring Terapagos to the peak of that mountain

It's not really that clear though. The game's pretty ambiguous in general on what Tera crystals even do, and them reviving is extremely sudden and not really explained that well

Mega Dragonite is suitably goofy and shares elements with Dragonair (my only complaint is that it's really top heavy), Mega Victreebel is beautifully SILLY, Mega Hawlucha changes just enough I think, and Mega Malamar is like a sci-fi alien thing. I got something to like about all of them.
