They only provide 1.5x boost when applied to speed

Honestly I wish we had some more defensive boosters something that doesn’t devolve to hyper offense but you’d have to boost two stats that are basically never boosted together

Stall has its purpose but a move that boosts Sp. D and Def. would probably find so many people complaining it’d get treated like the next baton pass: Not broken until people abuse the hell out of it and everyone complains as a result

See the issue with stall Paradox Mons is that booster energy is 100% the better tactic which means they can't swap out

If sun and surge provided permanent boosts as I've suggested before (and, I suppose, offered 1.5x to defenses now that they apparently don't) it would be far better

But as boosts wear off with the weather/surge it means that they got locked into being sweeper Mons in most circumstances

Personally I think perma weather and/or perma terrain would un-butcher stall

But then you end up with the mess that is BW OU

Weather wars and stuff like FGA make Game Freak panic and completely gut two amazing features

I think for VGC fighting gem was also run for getting rid of ttar and fire gem for nuking ferrothorn without having to run a fire mon against rain teams

I think permanent weathers/terrains could be good if they were nerfed somewhat (e.g. made so that their main use is to combine with abilities/items with other buffs/debuffs being far weaker than they are now)

But as you said it would bring back weather wars, even if nerfed

Which is why I believe Protosynthesis and Quark Engine buffs being permanent until switch out is sort of the middle ground

That way, sun and surge can still run out

Honestly, sun and hail teams were never really the biggest issue, though I have no experience with gen 9’s meta and prefer older gens (1-5). Hell, I doubt even with permanent hail you’d see major usage of hail teams

As someone who has not bought but is planning to get the game, here is how I would present it to you from what I've seen others say about it:
The graphics are poor in just about every area. There's no getting around that, they aren't necessarily hard to look at (though that's subjective) but the game itself isn't pretty. The people and Pokémon, however, appear to be where a lot of that work went. Pokémon finally have new animations, some even seem to have new models like Charizard who looks drastically better than Sw/Sh to the point that even I like looking at it. I have seen many claim that this is the best story we've had in a Pokémon game since Black and White, which is nothing to sneeze at given the (at least nowadays) universal regard of gen 5.

Where they messed up with the gen 5 sequel rivals is Benga should have been a rival alongside Hugh. The two are somewhat similar in personality, but Benga is the grandchild of a champion, seems effortlessly strong and is even blessed by the use of a Legendary (Latios/Latias) on his team. Hugh also has a strong connection to his grandfather but in comparison came from mundane roots, raised his starter from an egg and fought tooth and nail to get his sister's Pokémon back with literally only us backing him up. They would have worked well together as a rival pair, but instead we only got Benga as the final boss of white tree hollow/black tower

Like so many aspects of this game are amazing, and equally as many are shit.

If you think about it, Terastalization is kind of a combination of the past 3 mechanics. A transformation and change of type (Mega Evolution) that results in a move becoming more powerful (Z-Moves) by using an item that doesn't need to be held by a Pokemon (Dynamax)
