i just realised that i have been working on a sprite on the wrong canvas size (piskel) how do i resize the image without getting half pixels

or is 186*186 right?

When you're working on a sprite, the best size is 96x96. Then when it's ready for submission, you resize it up to a 288x288 canvas

ok, i was having trouble when i used the resize thing, because it was on 186*186 for some reason so upon sizing it up to 288 it got half pixles, would downloading it at 3 times scale also work

because that gave me a sprite that seems similar to others that i have made and has no half pixels

hello! i'm not really a spriter at all, and I don't know if this is my place to ask, but as I lurked the various spriting channels, I had a question. does a large color pallete actively hinder sprites in a way? i see people saying some sprites have too many colors

We try to keep up with gen 5 style which has 16 colors per sprite. Anyone's obviously allowed using more if it looks good and the spriter knows what they're doing but usually we recommend to stick up with the original palette. Too many colors usually means either having too many unnecessary shades or having a coloring/scaling error when the picture's quality was lowered and that created a lot of very similar color pixels that makes the pic looking like jpeg

Adding on to what most people have said, the general rule for DS Pokémon sprites is that, unless something is monochrome or largely one colour, it generally has up to 4 shades per colour; a highlight, a base shade, a shadow and an outline, going from lightest to darkest. A fifth shade might be necessary in some cases, but that's generally for detailing rather than full on shading, and often on larger Pokémon. 🙂

the fact that the original outline wasn't 100% black made your resized sprite have some random coloured pixels instead of being properly coloured i think

• if we look closely (like really closely) the darker skin shade is actually a mixture of two colours

i guess that's why there are two colours mixed for the same shade, and it doesn't look really good imo

@unreal hollow You need to edit Poliwhirl/Lampent more, it doesn't look good to just copy paste Poliwhirl's body on top of Lampent parts, put his eyes and swirl onto Lampent's body like you did with Chandelure
