Contests are ultimately to help with sprites in the game, nobody wants a sprite that cuts out and leaves a line of blank space when they could have one that's the same sprite but 4 pixels smaller. Old Pokémon sprites had to work in like 64x64 constraints, even birds with big wingspans and snakes. It's part of the challenge. I personally wouldn't vote for a sprite that's 100x100 because to me they go against the whole purpose of contests. And you can easily make a sprite 4 pixels smaller. 😦

To all the folks interested in duels, a update on the elo-math:
First and for most, i have decided that everyone starts out at 1000 points, cause it will lead do less rounding issues
secondly, i have finalized the formula i deem appropriate for point gains:
Instead of the gain/loss being linear based on the relation of votes, i pass the relation to a function, the exact function being:
((3x^2)-2x^3)^2,32
(x being the percentual relation of votes, eg 20votes and 30votes = 0.66)
without going too much into mathmatical details, u will loose less points the nearer the judge votes are to each other, but start loosing more if the difference is becoming greater
i decided on such, as i do predict judge votes differing slighty, but due to subjectivity, small differences equating to the roughly the same overall appreciation of a given sprite, aswell as there most likely being a practical minimum of votes a sprite will gain at least

It's complicated because limiting Pokémon is a bigger limit on creativity rather than technique, and I hate limiting creativity, but if a spriter needs to go 4 pixels each way there's nearly always a way they can cut that down, it's not that big of an ask. Although in terms of in-game use they're both as faulty as each other. 😦

I can agree with setting the limit to 96x96. I personally don't care if a sprite is bigger than that, but it is also true that it hurts the sprites quality in the game and that most 100x100 sprites should work on a 96x96 canvas as well.

I wouldn't ban every Pokemon that isn't in IF tho. A lot of times people have really cool ideas for themed contests that need these Pokemon, and so banning them would just restrict them too much. Most fusions submitted to contests only use IF mons anyway, so it's not like allowing other mons reduces the quantity of new sprites for the game by a lot.

@ the rules and stuff: i think it really depends on what the goal for the contests is 🤔 like are we doing these only to create more sprites for the game, or are they more just, artistic challenges? if its for the game, then limiting the rules to 96x96 and only in-game pokemon (and no silly shit like 11-way fusions) would probs be best, but imo themed contests tend to make people make sprites that arent necessarily appropriate for the game, e.g. the fears ones, plus often times pokemon outside of IF can be the most fitting for certain themes
