Ok, to elaborate on the idea:
some of u might know that i have challenged @burnt bane (and @tall moss , tho she doesnt seem to be as willing to partake) to sprite against/with me a certain topic, in our case, which is quite peculiar, gen1 starters / Haxorus in g-max lighting.
Whilst i havent finished my entry, i enjoyed the idea to get competitive against sprites i deem as skilled and which i can "battle" mutually and with fun.

The idea is, that anyone can challenge anyone to essential duell against them, whilst that doesnt have to be exclusive to 1v1, but also 1v1v1, 2v2, etc
a given criteria/topic must be given, to which the partakers have to agree, in our case, the whole Haxorus thing

i consider the idea a mixture of requests and contests, u request a certain theme and participate together to achieve given theme, on the other hand u try to best each other, however i dont think involving any deadlines is a good idea

when the pariticipants are all done, a poll is openly held to decide who did it best given the criteria

to make it yet more competitive and perhaps enthizing, i suggest bolstering it with a point system:
everyone who want to participate in said challenges will be tracked on a sheet or similiar
everyone who gets tracked starts with a minimum of points
winning and won contests also grant points (prestige points?)
winning a challenge awards u with a percentage of points of those u have won against, based on vote difference, for example, Stan gains double the amount of votes i do, then he gains lets say 50% of the points i currently have and i loose that much respectively
u get the dynamic, challenging the "big fishes" is a low risk, high reward-situation for those who dont have much points, but on the other hand, those up there can easily be toppled over

This reminds me of @limber dawn 's old forum. The Spriting competitions, not only fusions too. People whould challenge each other in every possbile level of pixel-art ability and prowess, from recoloring, to full blown scratch scenes.

So, most of what you say is in line with what I imagined. My idea was basically just to translate the Shokugeki's from Food Wars into what is basically a "Sprite Battle", and you pretty much hit the nail.
Of course, competing in a 1v1 battle against someone can be mentaly taxing as Blaquaza mentioned, so this would not be something everyone would enjoy, but it is also important to point out that these duels would only happen on a basis of someone challenging someone else. So people that don't want to could just stay from these duels entirely and focus on normal contests.

I think a few rules would need to be a bit more specified: When someone accepts the challenge to a duel, they should appoint one neutral person that is the organizer of that duel. That person decides on a theme and a time limit, that is within a frame that both people are okay with. Because there are only 2 people involved in most duels, it is easy to decide on a time to start and where the theme gets revealed. That way, there are equal chances and it is possible to set time limits like "1 hour" or "2 hours" which are compleatly impossible for regular contests. So a neat new dynamic.

I like the idea of having a sheet that always shows who has the most points too. Not just because that is another thing that is also in Food Wars 👀

Personally I think the scoring system itself isn't so complicated, but implementing it would be. Either I track everything in a .txt or we'd need a bot for it.
Plus I feel like it would just be you challenging people. 👀
But the challenging aspect itself feels too duel-like to work. The competitions work because people can just enter them and they don't need to actually request anything of me? But this would either almost never come into play, or would result in people constantly challenging each other and people would get bored of voting all the time.
It would basically need to replace the contests in terms of competition in order for the scoring to really work.
If it was a huge server with loads of active users, I'd consider it.

About them being redundant: I don't really agree, because these duels could have aspects like stricter time limits and more specific themes and rules that regular contests can't have. For example

I can see how the voting could get too much tho. In that case we could make it so that instead of a regular voting, the people dueling it out decide on 3 or so judges and those judges decide who wins then. At that point we wouldn't even need a seperate chat anymore at all. All that would be neccessary is to have the spreadsheet pinned somewhere

each duelist gets compared in pairs, eg 4 participants, first place compared to second, third and fourth, second got already compared to first, but needs to be compared to third and fourth and only third and fourth are left to be compared

(1-lp/wp)/numberOfParticpants*looser points=lost amount for looser (gained for winner)

This happens quite often. Just refresh after the ping goes out that polls are up. Ctrl+R refreshes discord for both in-browser and PC app.

Also should probs note, just closing and reopening discord for the PC app doesn't refresh it. Discord stays active in the background when X'd out unless you purposely untoggle the option for that in the settings (which is on by default) or end task via task manager.

Huh, yeah, refreshing worked. That's weird though, I've never encountered that glitch before on any other server.

I think it's the bot specifically that's buggy, or maybe the commands or whatever used to create the polls. I've never seen it happen on other servers either tbh.
