I think that was the point of Gordo's ping, though, is to encourage people to start spriting as soon as possible and not worry about eligibility for future contests.
One of the worst parts about adding new Mons into PIF is the massive number of autogen sprites that come with doing so. Having people make sprites now will reduce that number once the Kommo-o family is actually added
