I never understood how people complained about how completing the pokedex or any variation of it was difficult. All you gotta do is buy like a bajillion pokeballs through your playthrough and catch anything that moves. Then in the off chance you missed a pokemon you are only going back to find one or two, instead of all of them. Once you've beat the game you can evolve all those unneeded pokemon and boom, national dex. Then if you've done the same in prior games you'd just transfer it up to the one you want the dex completed in.
Not only are you like 75% done with the pokedex by the time you reach the end, by going out of your way to "Catch em all" you've essentially increased the amount of fun you can have when playing by having a lot of options for pokemon you' d probably never use.

That's what I do every time I play a new game, but I think you're underestimating how difficult the remaining 25% is to get. Especially if you don't have a friend with the other version to trade with.

true, but I do believe that the difference between a mythical pokemon and a legendary pokemon, is that mythical pokemon are limited to events, once you can catch it ingame without the use of an event. Its no longer mythical.
also I don't really count those event pokemon anyway, since they are just such a situational thing. what I consider as complete is just, (Get everything I can get within that individual copy + anything possible through usage of prior games)

Yeah, that's the thing I keep seeing people saying, which I still don't get how they could mess up that badly.
All they needed to do was add enough bonus features and qol improvements to justify rereleasing the game, why change the story that much.

Here's the thing, if I recall correctly, in their world, the legendary isn't exactly a legendary. Same with ultra beasts. In their worlds they are common creatures. Except Guzzlord. If you play Magic The Gathering, Guzzlord is the Eldrazi of Pokemon.

I'm still very much nostalgic for gen II, and felt a strong sense of personal achievement when I beat Red with a team like 30 levels below his, but I'd never want to go back and play it again.

I think this take is more about the feel of the games than the gameplay itself. Gen 2's gameplay had some issues (such as Misdreavus, all Dark-types except umbreon, and all evolution stones except Sun and Moon Stones being gated behind the elite four) but when you step off the boat into Vermilion City and the music starts, it hits you. Every new Kanto track you hear makes you think "...oh." You see how the buildings and people have changed, or not changed. You fight a familiar face in Viridian City, then you're given access to Mt. Silver, despite not knowing what's up there or having a reason to climb it besides that it's there. And when you reach the top you meet Red and realize who he is. And that's the game. the fuck is an enternatus

So im playing through gen 5 for the first time (white) alongside my irl rival who really got me into pokemon (he is playing black) and after playing through MULTIPLE GENERATIONS alongside him (8/4/3) i have never been able to really get the leg up on him, especially since i run some pretty weird pokemon sometimes (check my nickname for verification LUL) but after crafting this dual sunnyday/raindance team i was finally able to beat him a couple times in a row last night! I was just really excited and wanted to share this with someone!
I beat him in a 3v3 battle and a 6v6 battle, I was running Leavanny/Musharna(s)/Carracosta/Siesmetoad/Castform (we allowed 1 out-of-gen pokemon for our playthrough)/Emboar

well it actually lets you see the shiny when chosing from the three so you know if there is a shiny or not, also this gives you more or less 3 encounters each reset as again you can see if the pokemon is shiny or not in the choosing screen, making it 3 in 8000+ instead of the usual 1 in 8000+ in a way

Gen III is my favourite, but I'd argue IV is better than it in some ways. Sinnoh as a region is designed fantastically, and with so many new evolutions it almost feels like the end of an era that addresses the power creep that was starting. 🙂
