you're being really fucking rude, calm the fuck down this is a conversation about POKEMON
if they ever do, I will start pirating their MODERN games out of sheer spite
period.
I feel secure. It's not risky.
Alright.
i'm not trying to be mean i'm just saying you could say the things you're saying in a nicer way
and also ive been using retroarch since like 2017
yea retroarch is a good choice
i havent used standalone emulators in a long-ass time, but when i used them previous, it was vba
especially since you can get a shuffler going with it
and you can customize the themes
and you can hook it up to retroachievements.com
which adds a whole layer of modern dopamine hits to some of these games
like, these achievements can add gameplay you wouldn't have pursued otherwise
in pokemon gen 1, there are achievements for catching and evolving specific creatures for example
right yea I forgot you could do that with retroachievements
and in mother 1, there's an achievement for going to mt. itoi with teddy
my fave thing about retroarch is the crt shaders though
i play a lot of pixel art games, especially the snes era
and those games were made for crt screens
the raw pixel look, while iconic for all of these games now, is not how they were made to look
there are meant to be colour gradients and stuff
and some of retroarch's crt filters can actually capture that effect
pretty hard to argue with that image
this is a point of contention for a lot of gamers, because we've had the entire internet age to think of these games as their raw pixel look, with sprites posted online
so some people would defensively say "no no no the one in the right is the correct one, its good enough"
it's rather interesting when this results in a rerelease or sequel for modern screens
like with Sonic Mania
Sonic 1-3 and Sonic CD were also made with this CRT effect in mind
but Sonic Mania is a crisp pixel game for modern screens, and the built-in CRT filter doesn't do enough to capture the complete look you'd want.
it technically only matches the Genesis Sonic games if you're playing them on modern screens, which was not the original intention.
I know this probably SOUNDS pedantic, but again, just look at the image above.
Getting a real CRT is very tricky these days, so most gamers would normally not be able to experience these games graphics as intended
but some very very good Retroarch CRT shaders have been created

*Retro...
its just funny cause at least when people from this era of gaming say "these games looked better when i was a kid", that's not their mind playing tricks on them, they legitimately did
if you didn't know about this i don't blame you
i was born after this time, so i emulated a good chunk of these retro games with raw pixels
but now that i know about this, i think its so interesting
Yea
Me when I'm looking at 2 sides of the argument and 1 has a ton of points I disagree with and the other is just being excessively rude for 0 good reason
...right I forgot sluggoo needed rain to evolve
which is kind of an issue when I'm running the badlands -> mountain -> wasteland loop because
Who was Drayden again?
I believe that's the final gym leader voucher I still have left
BW dragon gym leader
Okay, I forgot he existed.
the other ones I'm missing are team star as the "villainous" team, S/M E4 for Hala and Kikui (I keep getting US/UM's), and Mustard in the champion slot (I keep getting Leon)
Man it's kinda depressing how after you get all the gym leaders and stuff you get basically 0 egg vouchers
but those ones you can't really aim for beyond maybe penny from constantly resetting on wave 35 if team star doesn't show up
I believe I faced team star in one of my playthroughs on a save that I don't have anymore.
yea you still get vouchers for them but they're downgraded by a stage if you've already beaten them (so 25x becomes 10x (only eternatus gives this normally), 10x becomes 5x and 5x becomes 1x)
Bummer
You can reset to get a different team? I didn't know that
yea by "reset" I mean "play waves 1-34 again" sadly not "reload back to wave 34 and see if it's different next time"
Oh sad
he was in the blueberry academy dlc in pokemon SCVI was one of the elite 4
you still have infinite mode
Yeah but infinite mode kinda sucks
you get a 5 egg voucher for 50 levels and 10 every 200
so every 200 levels you get 25 i think
that's pretty good for me ngl
also it's really easy to go fast in the infinte mode
No that's Drayton, who's his grandson
omg i'm sorry lmao my dyslexic ahh read that as drayton
Dw about it
endless mode I feel is better for farming shinies and abilities than egg tickets by themselves but getting past wave 250 is a very heavy struggle
Idk I got to like 800 pretty easily, but no trainers and the fact that once you reach like 2k or so tou have to swap over to extremely boring strategies makes me just not want to play Endless
Endless mode is kind of unfun too
Also the tokens are just so fucking unfun
agreed on both points
Because I definitely wanted to experience what it was like for every Pokemon I fight to have multiple Focus Bands
I mostly just play endless as a way to hatch eggs between challenge runs so I'm usually only playing 30 levels of it at a time
I just spam Classic runs with different carries
Also not getting any money early game fucking sucks
it's very easy if you have a good carry
true you also get 1- 5 egg vouch for each new mon you finish classic with
What game is this
pokerogue
Ahh. It a fangame?
well.. yeah but also you don't need to download anything it's just on a website
it's a web game
Oh okay
it's REALLY fun i recommend you play it
It's not P2W right? Like not some pokefarm shit
you can't pay even if you wanted to
Good
nothing is pay walled
Also good. Can't stand that p2w shit
fr it's so annoying
i grinded the game for like 300 hours and then got burnt out
I spent a BUNCH of time on Pokefarm. When it migrated to PFQ, my permanent shiny charm was taken away and every shiny I had was now untradable
It pissed me off so much-
unfortunate, any idea on why they migrated ?
I don't remember it was a few years ago or more
I stopped playing I was that mad at the website lol
lol
Kay cool can play rouge on phone for now (Cause vpn doesn't like anything pokemon except pokemondb) and it lets me make an account
Yeah it's pretty cool and free
But it's a bit of a steep learning curve at the start
Hey guys I will play a pokemon challenge against a few of my friends soon is one of you an expert for pokemon yellow who can help me with a strategy?
All you need to know about yellow is to look up the movesets and know there is no physical/special split
If it concerns battling, I suggest you check Smogon
Well, PVP battling at least
Well there is more to it
The challenge works like this: we all start a new game and play at the same time for a duration of 45 minutes after that we battle against each others. Everyone needs 6 pokemon, your not allowed to switch and you have to use your 3 weakest pokemon first. After that you can choose which one you use. Defeating the first 3 gives you one point and another point for each of the stronger ones. The game ends when everyone has finished the league.
If its all NPCs, idk all my knowledge of RBY is jack glitches and Competitive Pokemon
Not allowed to switch is giga cringe tbh
But who am I to judge
Uhh
In that case idk if Smogon's a good place to check
Yeah I know 😂
I didn't made the rules
Since Competitive Pokemon consists of a LOT of switching
Yeah why the no switch rule?
Snorlax is guaranteed but you may need to play quickly to get to it
I guess if you have a pikachu up against a golem you're f'd
That's a very strong Pokemon
Tauros and Chansey are very strong but those are rare Pokemon
So just hope that nobody else is able to get them tbh
I think checking Smogon's VR for RBY is still a good call
Actually we are allowed to choose one starting pokemon we can get traded. We can choose everything as long as it's not a legi
And you'll also want to check encounter tables for Yellow to know where things are
The best non Legendary in RBY is Tauros
And it's a very rare Pokemon
So I think going for it would be a pretty good call
If you play fast enough, you can get it guaranteed anyways
So I probably wouldn't
Well, tbf
Why doesn't this game let me stop battling for two seconds
If you don't know how to play fast it'd probably be a good call too
Pokerogue is entirely battles
So is it just battle until you're dead?
So basically if you play Pokemon for the lore, Pokerogue is not your game
There is an ending to Pokerogue
The screen won't let me use revives lol
But you're gonna need to get through quite a lot to reach it
Which other pokemon I should use during the run?
You are very much not expected to win on your first attempt
You unlock the ability to buy revives after like Wave 30 or 40 (I forgot)
Sprig is hard carrying lol
But you can get them randomly too
Gotcha
There's quite a few solid Pokemon in RBY
Chansey is certainly not worth going for
So if you want it, you must start with it
Making it contend with Tauros for a slot
Sprigatito is very much carrying my team very happy I chose it
incredible art by Kolohe
check our their art thread here!
Welcome to the RBY OU Viability Rankings! As you can guess, in this thread we aim to rank the viability of all relevant Pokemon in the RBY OU Metagame. All Pokemon are ranked in order of viability, even in their own subranks. The VR...
Here are the viability rankings for Gen 1 OU
Higher the rank, the better the Pokemon is
Though I don't think anyone will be reaching Zapdos, which devalues Pokemon that beat Zapdos like Rhydon and Chansey and increases the values of Pokemon it beats like Exeggutor or Starmie
Well in the start I thought I would go with Mankey to better get throw the first arena and deal with ratatat which is really strong in early pvp fights
Fighting types are kinda just
Bad
In PVP
Because their best STAB is an 80 BP move with 80% accuracy and recoil
oh yeah the gen 9 starters are really good
And a lot of the best Pokemon are Psychic types
You'd think that they would be helpful for the true best type, Normal
But uhh
Tauros beats Machamp, the best Fighting Type, in a 1v1
i have 2 good fighting types come to my mind when i think of competetive mons 1- koraidon 2- urshifu
They probably beat Snorlax and Chansey at least
They don't exist in Gen 1
And neither does Close Combat
i didn't know you were talking about gen 1
Fair, but tbf when else is Machamp vs Tauros a relevant matchup
These mfs are FRAUDS nowadays
Tauros got hit by severe nerfs
And Machamp became better but then fell off again
i don't remember the last time i've seen a machamp lol
Since my Tauros will be traded I can't level it so much or it will not obey anymore so I need to train others early
Which one would be best?
Tauros has had the biggest fall-off in all of Competitive Pokemon history
I mean I imagine you want Mankey for Brock
Or something
Also how will it being traded work
Because like won't it already be high leveled
You can't get Level 1 Tauros or anything unless I'm being silly
Ah ok
@supple basalt how's pokerogue with you
I'm not too familiar with actually playing Yellow, I'm only semi familiar with Competitive
Therefore I thought Snorlax in the beginning because of headbutt on lv 5
My entire team is dead lol
So you'll want to check some info on the games
lol don't worry it took me like 15 runs to beat the game for the first time
WAIT YOU HAVE TO START OVER IF YOU WIPE?!
Ooh yeah Tauros' level up moves aren't great
Yup, the idea is you catch new Pokemon and learn how the new battles go at first
And make progress that way
||flamigo with passive unlocked||
it's op
I hate that lol
yeah it's a roguelike
a roguelike is where you get stronger in each run by earning new stuff and getting stronger so each run you get better and stronger
You get the Body Slam TM on S.S Anne in Gen 1 right?
Yes
Don't forget to pick that up no matter what you pick to start with
It's a very strong move
yes you do
Ohh gotcha
What do you think about buying the magikarp and training it
also if you want a really overpowered pokemon try to get a flamigo and get it's passive unlocked
it's actually crazy
In Yellow not a good idea. Without the physical/special split Gyrados is garbage since it gets no water stab to take advantage of the attack stat
Also, if you have time to gamble in the game corner, you may want to go for either Abra, Hyper Beam or both
Gen 1 is the only game where Hyper Beam is good, since the 1 thing it is good at is killing things
And if Hyper Beam lands a KO, it doesn't have to recharge due to a glitch
thoughts
This is part of what makes Tauros such a threat
Why is he named that
You know who I'm referring to
Alakazam is just like
The 3rd best non Legendary Psychic Type in Competitive RBY
because he is
Should I pick up a Geodude instead?
hyper beam is that good ?
If you're allowed to just pick whatever moves you want once the timer runs down, don't worry about Hyper Beam
Only in Gen 1
In Gen 1, due to a glitch, Hyper Beam doesn't recharge when it KOs a Pokemon
oh wow
On a strong and fast Pokemon like Tauros that doesn't require much chip to OHKO things with the currently physical Hyper Beam, this is very strong
It also gets STAB on Hyper Beam
As well as Body Slam
Whose high BP and 30% Paralysis Chance is also very threatening
Also, Normal Types cannot be Paralysed by Body Slam
Fenniken: Burns Rattata with an ember
Trainer: Switches out for his other pokemon as I ember agian
Patrat: Immedietely burnt too
That's nice rng XD
Fortunate doesn't begin to describe your series
i'm guessing the first is mewtwo and the second is mew ?
Those are the legendaries
The best Psychic Type is Exeggutor, followed by Starmie
Also, as a tip, if you find a member of the Garganacl line, catch it and make sure it has Salt Cure and Recover
It will be very important
Will do
ah i love rng
The other moves aren't as important but out of them the main one I like having is Stealth Rock
You can Trick the AI into switching a lot if you know what to do
Rare candy, 5 pokeballs or PP Up?
oh, also tip always spend your vouchers on shiny up
More like RC or PP Up I've got plenty of pokeballs
what's your carry mon
It was Sprigatito but not Sprig and Fennekin are both hard carrying.
if you have moves that are 5pp i'd pick pp up
*now
Also didn't answer this yet, but Geodude might be helpful early idk
Mudkip's in my party as well
It's also the 2nd best Rock/Ground type
Well really thanks for your help
Think I got better chances now
mudkip is great
It is, over half the crap trainers are sending out are grass so he's just in the back of my party atm
Even if you're not allowed to trade evolve it I'd argue Geodude is better than Onix
And Graveller certainly is
this is very late but the "no switching" bit and that ruleset reminds me of one of the gen 3 battle facilities but I forget which one
honestly the first 20 floors are the hardes
hardest
and then from 20-170 is easy
and then it gets hard from 170-200
Battle Arena there we go
I don't know maybe my buddy got inspired by that XD
also onix works in the context of "being brock's ace pokemon" and literally no other context rofl
I'll keep that in mind
oh and also every 30 levels you get a gym leader
I like Finn's design
It's not actually always every 30 iirc
It can start on 20 and not 30, and I think the distance between each gym isn't a set number
By not set
I mean the distance between the 1st and 2nd gym
Is different from let's say
The 4th and 5th
I believe it is set but it will first start on either wave 20 or 30
But I'm not too sure let me check
true
and every gym after that will be 30 waves later
Fenniken thinks he has serene grace cause he's getting burns left and right
"Standard Pokémon Trainers will challenge you during your run, appearing randomly after you leave the Town biome, as well as a guaranteed fight on wave 5 against a Youngster.
There's a 50% chance of a run having its first gym leader battle on wave 20, and an equal chance of it happening on wave 30. After that, gym leaders are at predetermined waves, spawning every 30 waves after your first gym battle.
For info on which gym leaders spawn in which biomes, and a glimpse at what Pokémon they might have on their team, visit the biomes page and look for the biome you're in, or you can navigate to this page for a full list."
this is from the wiki
By check I mean check by memory
OK yeah it is every 30 I think
Idk I never stopped to count
Well I think in the end I will go with a team of Tauros, Snorlax, Starmie, Golem, Zapdos and Gengar
I just remember the exact numbers
so it'll always be either 20/50/80/110/140/170 or 30/60/90/120/150/180
I heard that it's better to get a gym fight at round 20 than round 30
Because of the rival and evil team fights
20, 50, 80, 110, 140, 170
30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180
that's.. variable?
Right?
basically yeah
yes
the first pattern has to deal with the 165-170 stretch being rough while the second pattern has to deal with 115-120 and 145-150 being rough instead
||that can't be right 180 is champion||
||That's 190||
190 ||is the champion|| regardless of what pattern you get
Tbf I guess stating where the rival fights are is kinda spoiler-y?
And the gym leader fights as well
165, 190, and 200 are also rough but not quite as rough as 145 and 195
But idk you don't really gain much losing there
true but tbf also you just need to see it like 2 times and then it gets boring and you don't care about the story
In fact, here are some important benchmarks for trainers
||i like the part where the rival says "..." and stops talking||
At 35, you will always ||encounter a grunt if an evil team||
Mb
that's 35, 25 is the second rival fight
Typo
Very glad I grabbed this fake outing singing skitty
Never ever thought I'd say that
fake out is crazy
Yeah I typod lmao
I was gonna say if you're in the mood for a catch-em-sometimes run then anything with a sleep move's a good time for that
2 and 3 are very close to each other
and technician is crazy too early game at least
||You should keep that evil team in mind, they appear again on 62, 64 and 66. 66 will be an Admin||
Spoilering this in case you want to experience certain trainers blind
||i thought it was on 110 too no ?||
||On 112, 114 and 115, you encounter a Grunt, an Admin and the Leader||
||Leader 1 is the first fight you need to take very seriously||
||ah yes you're right i was thinking about the leader||
||And on 165, you fight Leader 2. This is, in my opinion, the 2nd hardest singular fight in the game. Be ready for it.||
||From 181 to 190, you face what I'd say is the hardest section of the game, the Elite 4. 182, 184, 186 and 188 will be a certain region's Elite 4, and 190 will be their Champion. Make sure you have enough money to fully heal your team each battle||
180s gave me so much trouble
||195 Rival is the hardest singular battle in the game, IMO||
||And 200 is the final boss||
||Which I'd say is the 4th? 5th? Hardest single battle in the game, hard to say with 145 Rival and Champion||
||the nice thing about the 180s is that you can tera every battle you don't need to wait||
i beat the final boss first try
Never said it was hard
Just said it was harder than most other battles
yeah that's true
But for a newcomer, it could be difficult if they aren't sure what to expect
yeah that's true and also i did have a mega mawile which helped me a lot
||Garganacl is a Pokemon I really liked when I was new, as was Cofagrigus, and the Final Boss was why||
Wiping again because of a revenging Machop
||If you get a map it isn't difficult confirming these encounters, and on a Pokemon with 255 HP and 250 Defences, damage over time is important||
Yep am dead
Nowadays, I don't really base my strats around them either
gg
Progress if you're new can be slow
could you show me your starters ? i just wanna see
yes very slow
wdym
The AI was far simpler and the movesets in general far worse
And far less ||bosses||
Haven't caught a ton
Might use pikachu for something fast
Movesets of the opponents, that is
Well, the egg moves in the old days were also ass on your side
Iron Crown had 4 physical moves
ok so i think you see the roguelike part of the game, and also pikachu is good to catch since it can learn zippy zap and pika pappow
And 2 of them aren't even good physical moves
crazy
Aqua Cutter Rare Egg Move is a sick joke
Baxcalibur got fucking DRAGON RUSH AS ITS RARE LMAOOO
Remember, this is release patch
if you can unlock sprigatito's passive it would be pretty good
Glaive Rush wasn't fully implemented, and thus it was a 120 BP 100% accurate move with 0 drawbacks
It also had Freeze Dry???
Aqua cutter sucks
I guess I'll also be going with Skitty since with Sprig and Pika my only options are Skitty, a modest Buneary, a Chikorita and a Lechonk
Dragon Rush by itself is bad but there was literally 0 reason to use it over Glaive Rush back then
Since it didn't even double the damage you took
Miraidon got like Ice Beam and Calm Mind and nothing else relevant
So of course it was probably the best Pokemon on release
Because like
what did glaive rush do again ?
Boltbeam Miraidon
Glaive Rush is a 120 BP Dragon move with 100% Accuracy
what's the downside
It doubles the damage you take after using it until your next move
This downside was not implemented on release
crazy
Ofc, doubling the damage you take doesn't even matter anyways
Since like
You have what, 145 Attack?
You're OHKOing everything you click this against anyways
Why do you think it's my (2nd) favourite Pokemon and one that I use as a pfp
i'm pretty sure it was the first legendary pokemon i ever saw
My cringe-ass username is Legenddragon800 and I'm pretty sure it's because Latios was a Legendary Dragon type
(I still need to change this shit)
(It's so cringe)
also i'm so fucking surprised by latias and latios having normal speed
LegDrag rolls world's worst username, asked to leave the room
especially that they lose speed when mega evolving
They don't
Also, in Gen 3, 110 was extremely fucking fast
It's just that powercreep has made it just fast
yeah true it's the same
Instead of extremely fucking fast
fair
also it's kinda annoying that they make new mons so overpowered that old ones don't get used as much
They also nerfed Lati Twins hard
at this point the only legendary mons you can use in competetive pokemon is the weather trio (not rayquaza) and the gen 9 and 8
it's so sad
Charge your phone
Just go ask Bulbapedia or PokemonDB or Serebii or Smogon what Soul Dew did in Gen 6 and before and you'll see that they got done dirty
dragon psychic is such a cool typing too
I don't have a charger lol
It is
Unfortunately it's also hot garbage
Mostly because Psychic is hot garbage
Oh dear
We need to rebuff the Psychic type
They fucking nerfed it to an arguable bottom 3 type and still pretend as if it's a type of legends
It isn't
Not anymore
Tbf the nerf was (mostly) indirect
Mainly from the types that beat it getting stronger and stronger
Skitty evolves with Moon Stone right?
can we just unanumosly agree that bug is the worst type ?
Probably, but at least it is specified towards one thing
Bug is specced towards Defence
they also have ultra necrozma which is so fucking cool
And it's like
Average at it
Maybe even a bit above average
It's also god awful offensively
And the Bug types have terrible stats and bad type combos
But hey!
You can't take away the fact that Bug has defensive merits
And has been used as a defensive Tera Type
What does Psychic even do?
It's bad offensively
Bad defensively
The only way you can use it without feeling like you'd rather not have it is by running Psychic Terrain or Necrozma Dusk Mane
It's just so damn sad
If you average offences and defences though Psychic is better than Bug
But at least Bug specs into one thing in specific
Psychic also does have Pokemon with better stats and movepools
And if I'm being real, THAT'S what carries the type hardest
The fact that it has good Pokemon
Ice and Rock are like
Good conceptually
They're glass cannon types, nothing wrong with that
Guys. Meowth or Skitty? Meowth doesn't sing but Sing sucks anyway
If you don't want to fish for Sleep, probably Meowth
Ice and Rock are they "Done dirty by stat spreads" type
if bug is good defensively that means it's like the exact opposite of ice which is really bad defensively but good in offence right ?
And for Rock in particular, the offensive moves too
Kind of, but there's a big difference
Ice is extremely, absurdly strong offensively
Bug is just above average defensively
Not really top 5
Flying also just does what Bug wants to do better in most scenarios unfortunately
But Bug seperates itself by not being weak to Boltbeam
Flying however is also actually good offensively
do you think frostmoth would be good ?
Maybe if it had an existent fucking speed stat
Frosmoth is a prime example of why Ice has such a poor reputation
lmao
Slow bulky Ice type
Yay...
Froslass is close to being an ideal Ice type
It has a strong secondary type offensively
i thought a defensive type and an offensive type would be good
froslass is top 3 mons for me
God fucking damn
Ice and Bug are horrible synergistically
Question. What do I use egg vouchers fir
i love everything about her
*for
are you on pc ?
anyways you can press a button that opens a menu
No on phone right now but I will be playing on PC when I get home
They share weaknesses to Fire and Rock
So you're 4× weak to 2 of the most potent offensive types
this is why i love heatwave
This isn't a problem exclusive with Bug though
Steel is renowned as the best defensive type, ever
But even it can't save the travesty that is Ice, stacking Fire and Fighting weaknesses together
i'm sure there's a way to do it on mobile but idk what it is... anyways and then you go to egg gacha and GO FOR SHINY UP
ik the legendary up is enticing but don't you dare
The best Ice combos are the ones that boost it offensively
As strong as Ice is, it does have quite a few types that resist it, similar to another strong offensive type in Fighting
Do the egg vouchers stay if I wipe? I got a plus one need to know if I should stop just in case
Yes
i remember there was a mon with a fire ice form right ?
Awesome
yeah
Galarian Darmanitan, but it doesn't use Zen Mode
The first reason is that G-Darm is a frail fuck with a poor defensive type
Getting below 50% without going to 0% is very tough
Secondly, Gorilla Tactics
Bottom text
To explain further, a Pokemon like Darmanitan usually likes to run the Choice items
These items lock a Pokemon into using a move, but boost a stat by 1.5 times
And that is a MASSIVE boost
so basically a choice scarf..
Gorilla Tactics quite literally is the Choice Band in the ability slot
You can run 2 Choice Bands, or a Scarf and a Band
Why would you run Zen Mode over this
sorry i meant choice band
You can still use Flare Blitz or Earthquake as coverage
It's a shame since Zen G-Darm is a fun concept
Base Zen Darm is just flawed on every possible level
Since base Darm is still frail
And while Fire is a pretty good defensive type, it does have some glaring weaknesses
Also, Darmanitan has like
45 SpA?
And Zen Darm is a special attacker
Which is the most small brain decision Gamefreak has ever made
some pokemon are just not created equal
Darmanitan is definitely still an above average Pokemon
It just is NOT running Zen Mode
yo sorry man i really gtg
It isn't straight up great but it is funny
cya later
Bye
bye
252+ Atk Choice Band Sheer Force Darmanitan Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola in Sun: 276-324 (51.6 - 60.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
❤️
I think that was a different Drayden.
I witnessed an evolution
wild
Oh boy hello Iono
The site keeps crashing
._.
I'm on 4% anyway that
is prolly why
yea there's drayden and drayton I believe? they are related though I think which makes it better or worse
checks* latter is the former's grandson apparently
That makes a lot of sense as both of them are dragon type specialists.
i'm not liking the look of shiny solosis. i need a Jeff to kill it.
You're doing way better than I did in my first couple of runs
I barely ever made it to the rival
opinion on absol
it alright
Atk stat. That's it.
when it comes to design i do like that design
It's pretty strong in Pokerogue I like using it
that is one angry absol
Looks cool, doesn't really have the stats to match unless you Mega Evolve it
i do like mega absol's wings
Tbh, should've gotten an Evolution
Instead of a Mega Evo
In fact, here's a fun idea
We know that Pokemon can evolve over time based on human influence
For example, Hydreigon's aggression partially comes from discrimination against it from humans
It could evolve into 2 Pokemon depending on friendship, with lower friendship being a Pure Dark type with more offensively minmaxed stats
And higher friendship having less minmaxed stats but a secondary type
Maybe Fairy, or Fighting
Tbh with this concept I could see the more minmaxed form also getting the Fighting type
But the idea I have is that one form, due to negative influence, is far more aggressive and actually earns its reputation in a way
And the other form, due to positive influence, remains more benevolent
And the stats being more offensively minmaxed is meant to reflect the more aggressive behaviour
Idk this is just ideas that can't come true because of the Mega sadly
It could also get an evolution despite having a mega evo like how Duraludon got an evolution after having a g-max
Gmaxes were a joke though
Like unironically Gmax Duraludon is worse than Dmax Duraludon
Imo
The only difference between Dmax and Gmax are the Max Moves and I think the lowering attack of Wyrmwind is more useful than the PP reduction of Depletion
Idk what that has to do with what I said
I'm trying to say that Megas felt more "final" and like objective improvements than Gmaxes
Even if it still failed for Garchomp lmfao
That's really the only one where the Mega is just worse
Not just due to opportunity cost or anything, no it's just straight worse
Also wasn't there some lore about Megas drawing out all of a Pokemon's potential or something
True true
And I don't think Gmaxes have an explanation seperate to Dmaxes
I guess there is ||Mega Eternal Floette, but it is incapable of evolution and only has 1 lower BST than Florges||
||... Ngl, an Eternal Flower Florges would be broken lmao||
I have just invested in a switch 2 and i cannot get over how good violet looks on it compared to the switch 1
Someone called it $200 dlc and I think it fits
one of the best purchases i've ever made
...aight
That's a big guy
his name IS goliath tbf
druddigon what is that pose bro
Is Charizard overrated if 75% of people I see talk about it say they fucking hate it for being overrated
Because it doesn't feel overrated to me for that exact reason
it's a cycle of the vocal minority being what's focused on
but if you ask outside of that vocal minority you'll still find a lot of love for it I feel
I feel like it was at its nadir during gens 6 and 8 though with how much they shilled charizard in those gens so you got the VM pushing back harder during 2013-2014 and 2019-2021
it is probably the second most marketed pokemon besides pikachu though (in the west? I wish I had some data about that) so that always makes it a safe target when one wants to vent frustrations I guess
Idk though it's just so hard to imagine Zard as overrated when you're surrounded by every Charizard hater in the known universe
I feel like that might be an issue with the surroundings now that I think about it
which to me makes sense since fandoms are usually like one person says The Thing and then everyone starts saying it to fit in
I HATE CHARIZARD BRO
Sorry I had to lmao
I still think gmax charizard looks really stupid tho
The megas are cool
Doing a Zangoose run in Pokerogue
I'm suffering
It just does not have the damage if you don't get a Toxic Orb and use Tidy Up
And does not have the speed if you use Swords Dance
I should honestly just drop Facade for Swords Dance at this point
And just spam Espeed or something
But it's so frail that even getting 1 turn without being at risk of dying is rough
I've also been getting rotten RNG
reminds me of the solrock run
What would be the best route to get a starter for a curry Locke of sword and shield?
The path where you meet the legendary or route one
Also does anybody got the spawn rates
For curry Pokémon
Nvm
I found it
took me a sec to realize what you meant by "currylocke" but I recall there being a good tutorial on youtube for running into curry pokemon
I'll see if I can find it when I get home but I will say decide early if you wanna use your first 6 mons for curry or import 6 mons from elsewhere since they're gonna get a lot of experience and affection from the curry
I have no idea what that means
basically on the main routes in sword/shield you can set up camp, and in the camps you can make curry
doing this has a variety of effects, most notably being a "pokemon center on the go" if you do the minigame well enough, but it can also attract wild pokemon too thats you can catch
the neat thing about it is that these encounters pull from the random encounter table and flip them, so rarer encounters become more common and vice versa
it is kinda limited on where you can have wilds show up (I believe you can't have wilds show up in wild area camps or the DLC areas) but it is a neat idea for a run
Trying to get a starter for route 1
Oh that's cool
Plus all my Pokémon’s friendship had to be high
anyway
I’m out of non berries
Anybody know food shops?
trader joe's is pretty nice
wild area has some scattered around
in a pinch you can check the trees in dappled grove for apples and the shores in the second area for leeks
It’s just a shame that you can’t use one on a playthrough team
IKR
shoutouts to being one of the only megas that loses points in a stat
I think mega garchomp is the only other one I can think of but uuuh
it's speed could go from 102 to 92 or it could go from 102 to 62 and it'd be basically the same effect
anyway I'm home now one second
Yup, back at it again with the curry video! Welcome to this in-depth tutorial about shiny hunting curry encounters! I decided to get a final curry tutorial out to the public before the release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (by just a day lol), so I really hope you enjoy my final send off to Sword and Shield! Massive thank you to Anubis and Kaph...
it's for shiny hunting but the tips about just getting pokemon to show up at all should apply to a normal run
The worst part of Rouge is there is no way to actually train your party
Pfft
best part of it is that it didnt work at all
Camerupt, Ampharos, Heracross, Sableye and Diance all lose stats too
thanks for the list of ones that also lose stats! I forget what Diance loses though, speed?
Defenses
aaah right
This is funny. I can’t say why, But its really funny with some forbidden knowledge.
Not really, since those 30 stat points it loses in Speed has to go somewhere
And tbh 92 can still outspeed some things
It's like a similar amount of awkward as using base 62 in Trick Room though
92 can outspeed some bulkier Pokemon that 62 can't, main one I can think of is Lando-T
Who has 91 Speed
62 does still outspeed a lot of the main stall Pokemon though
Doesn't outspeed Gliscor though which I'm pretty sure can be used on stall
Technically Gliscor also outspeeds 92
But since its usually running heavy bulk investment, you're gonna outspeed it with 92 100% of the time if you invest in speed
yea gliscor's 95 right
which is pretty speedy on...
actually I would say "a wall" but gliscor's stats are oddly balanced? just like uh leafeon but with better everything rofl
75/95/125/45/75/95
OK but like I said Gliscor usually doesn't run very high speed investment
So I think a Mega Garchomp could definitely outspeed it 100% of the time given it has speed investment
makes sense
that being said if mega chomp comes back though (champions?) I feel like it'd have access to scale shot going by natDex
Problem: That's Loaded Diceless Scale Shot
right yea so you're still running the risk of it being a 50 base power move
It isn't a reliable STAB
and it can still miss
Yknow what'd be fun
speaking of mobile spinoff games uh this shadowdropped
If Mega Garchomp did have like

20 or 30 less Speed than it currently does
TLDR: trading basically loses most of its restrictions and there's a new share thing that follows the old limitations?
And you redistribute that to other stats
HOWEVER
Instead of Sand Force, it gets Sand Rush
We have like
3?
I could see that
Good Sand Abusers currently
None of the Sand Force mons count as good sand abusers imo
It's all just Sand Rush
And the main Pokemon you think of with Sand Rush are Excadrill, Dracozolt...
...
Alright, 2 good sand abusers
I guess Pokemon that really need some form of chip to perform well also like Sand, as do Rock types
And uhh
Yknow what nah I don't think Palossand is getting used even if Sand buffs Shore Up a ton
I keep forgetting dracozolt even has sand rush rofl
monke brain see hustle and ignores its major downside
ROFL
whelp
opposing stater is infernape
goes tera dragon and sets up to +6/+6/+6
murks myself because I forgot revalation dance takes your CURRENT primary type and the rival had a florges
ok setting up to +6 is still doable without tera since the rival oddly wants to use Raging Fury more than Close Combat despite it doing less damage
ok H-Goodra H-Sliggoo run complete
got a heckin DNA splicer on wave 198 but sadly wave 199 was an Invasive I already used before (Sandy Shocks)
wasn't too bad but that's because I was a filthy cheater and lucked into getting quiver dance from the bug maniac
and also had two very good backups in Inteleon and H-Lilligant
heck I forgot you could get this
like the rarest shop item in the game I think?
wouldnt have expected this dude to become my ace, but hes pretty fuckin cool ngl
Are there any fully evolved Bug types worse than Beedrill, Grass Cloak Wormadam and Ledian
Like you could make a case for any non-Wormadam Quiver Dancer to be better purely for having Quiver Dance
And the other 2 Wormadams have less worthless types
Parasect has Spore
So if it lives for a single turn at least it does something useful
Sticky Webbers have the same thing
But most of them beat these 3 in stats anyways
Same for the QDers if I'm being brutally honest
And even fucking Volbeat and Illumise I'd say are better
For the sole reason of having Prankster
Prankster Encore, even
kricketune? I forget if that gets sticky web or not
checks* does
dustox or beautifly?
yea those are the only two I'd think of that would be worse than those three but I think those both at least get quiver dance
yea both get QD so I think it's just those 3 without QD or sticky web with stats that bad
(and in wormadam's case even QD doesn't save it rofl)
but beautifly might still count considering butterfree's a straight upgrade where it counts which itself is saying something
Looked at the Normal types for this question
thats oddly sad
And I think the best candidates for 3 worst are Castform, Spinda and Kecleon
Also looked at Psychics but that has more than 3 candidates for the bottom 3
Unown is non negotiable
But then you have Calyrex (Base), Chimecho, Oranguru and Rabsca competing for a slot
Purely from a Singles perspective, Chimecho is actually better than Oranguru
But the latter is better in VGC
Glare is peak though?
Literally the best Paralysis move in the game
And a non negotiable addition to Serperior and Zygarde's movesets
oh I thought that was lunar dance
lunar blessing is just life dew + refresh which... still isn't great but isn't "blow yourself up so someone else can get a full heal" levels of "in pokerogue, why."
Hey who do y'all think are the worst and 2nd worst of these following Water types: Phione, Lumineon, Dewgong, Wailord, Whiscash, Huntail
I guess
then again this is a pokemon that gets nasty plot just naturally so having an overkill setup move probably isn't super required
Luvdisc is already auto number 1
out of those uuuh probably lumineon/huntail? maybe wailord too
I've found evidence for actually ranking the worst 2 of these as Lumineon and Huntail
That evidence being DPP ZU's VR
dewgong at least has a nice niche of being a second fire resist for mono ice teams in case walrein isn't around for whatever reason
Wait wait wait actually
they're both still probably the bottom of their respective dual types though
Wugtrio
actually speaking of mid dual types
it is strange that two final bosses ended up with a seismitoad on their team (in leon's defense, I think that one is only a seismitoad if you picked... grookey? let me check)
I think Wugtrio can be a contender
drain punch or power-up punch on electivire ya think?
Maybe something like Luvdisc, Lumineon, Wugtrio
grookey yea, for cinderace he has mr. rime (fair) and for inteleon he has... rhyperior.
I can see that
huntail can shell smash BP? or is that just gorebyss that can do that
Wailord is laughable for being outclassed by Pyukumuku
But even then it's better than these
if you're allowing BP then that's at least something huntail can do even if it's another butterfree/beautifly situation with gorebyss
Huntail is just worse Gorebyss
And Shell Smash BP will only ever be allowed in like
1 tier
So you can't just say "Oh Huntail can do this in a lower tier where Gorebyss isn't in"
yea when your tier is already as low as it can go and something in that tier is better than you then uh
that's not so much "untiered" as "Unusable"
ROFL the well of water types goes even deeper
since luvdisc is basically a first stage pokemon that doesn't evolve I'd allow putting wugtrio in as a fourth
Do you think you could argue for Seaking<Lumineon
so like 3rd worst wugs, 2nd worst lumineon, 1st worst corsola, 0th worst luvdisc
maybe? seaking does have some funny coverage but they're both very similar pokemon
to the point where you can probably just leave wugs behind and run both
when even shell smash doesn't save you
even in-game carracosta's pretty terrible since you're giving up archeops to use it
I wanna mention Basculin and Qwilfish too
at least in gen 5, what do you give up in SM/US/UM again? let me check
Not because they're close to being the worst
I think you mentioned them but they at least have abilities that do things
But because they're so unbelievably better than everyone else I've mentioned so far
That it's almost kinda hilarious
Especially since people give so much shit to them
It's especially funny that these 2 have alternate forms that get evolutions
oh you're giving up rampardos in S/M which uuuh
Fair trade I'd say
I think carra might actually be the better deal of those two rofl
(in moon you're giving up archeops for bastiodon which as much as I got good use out of it in my nuzlocke that one's a no brainer)
Ultra sun adds omastar, armaldo, and tyrantrum to the list of options
We have a ton of options with Ice
actually I just had a dumb thought
Since Gamefreak loves making the least optimal Ice types possible
if every single pokemon just inherently got access to recover who'd be the biggest winner aside from the obvious regigigas
Registeel comes to mind
I can see that
As does Regice
And Regirock
And Ferrothorn
And basically any bulky recovery lacking Pokemon ever
I was gonna say ferrothorn still has synthesis but it's still something that doesn't exactly want to be in the sun
Anyways yknow it's fucked up when Frosmoth and Jynx aren't viable options for worst Ice types
really is more at home in rain and sandstorm so synthesis isn't reliable there
It does not
And you can very easily slap Ferrothorn onto a weatherless team
anyway back to pokerogue I'm tempted by poipole but it's heckin 8 cost...
For Ice types, Delibird and Eiscue are like
eh I'm gonna go vulpix just because if I run into that training event I can slap snow warning on it
Mandatory, no?
ice has a pretty small list of mons but yea
it's easily the biggest contrast between stats and role of all 18 besides maybe rock
Aurorus, Abomasnow, Walrein, Avalugg, Hisuian Avalugg, Mr Rime, Glalie, Glaceon, Dewgong
"born to weavile, forced to glaceon"
Though Avalugg ain't bad with Tera
I'd say uh dewgong, H-avalugg, and glalie?
So it has that going for it I guess???
Eiscue has to be there though
As does Delibird
Glalie, uhh
Has Moody?
So if you're in a tier that allows it
And feel like gambling
yea aurorus and abomna have snow warning, walrein's got the thick fat (ability), avalugg's got the thick fat (metaphorical), mr. rime and glaceon don't feel quite bad enough but I can see them also making it
... Just use Scovillain or something lmao
esicue I feel is one of those mons that sounds good on paper but fails horrifically in execution
Even among Moody Pokemon, Glalie doesn't stand out
since belly drum and going from like sub 60 speed to 130 sounds good until you realize that only happens if you bite a physical hit and BD on the same turn
And if your opponent didn't click a multi hit move
which if both of those don't happen you're either getting murked by a special attack or just obliterated in general lol
Or has Mold Breaker
Or is a Solgaleo or Necrozma Dusk Mane
Or is a Zekrom or a Kyurem Black
I forget does anything even use belly drum seriously outside of things that also have priority
Slurpuff with Unburden
aaah I can see that
But specifically only in lower tiers
In higher tiers if you ever see Slurpuff it's min bulk Focus Sash with Sticky Webs
And moves like Taunt, Misty Explosion, Yawn, Magic Coat etc
It's actually very fun to use tbh
"min bulk" aka the "I wish I knew Memento/explosion" build
I loved using it in Ubers
Min bulk is to proc Focus Sash and Unburden actually
anyway uh eiscue H-avalugg, dewgong or glalie and delibird
And you can effectively self destruct with Misty Explosion
dunno which is worse out of dewgong and glalie
they're both #3, Eiscue is probably #2, H-Lugg is #1 and delibird is #0, same as luvdisc for water
If we look to the Flying type, Delibird's back
And there's a bunch of weak, single stage Flying types with it like Squawkabilly and Chatot
Unironically though?
there's a reason why vega gave them both absurd things on their evos (huge power for delibird's and spore + 127 base speed for luvdisc's)
Squawk is better than most of the early gen regional birds
Will this be available in my starters? I already had a Pikachu in the box
I think so
ok real talk
Don't worry though you still have Butterfree and Beautifly for Flying types
if you're playing scarlet then squak actually isn't that bad of a choice for the final fight but only because any flying type can do work on a boss that leads with something x4 weak to flying ROFL
And Ledian
So like
Worst Flying types?
Probably just Ledian, Delibird, Beautifly tbh
Maybe Mothim over Beautifly?
yep. basically you'll just click F to change between the pikachu forms
Ahh okay! Cool <3
huh interesting how they all have different passives
Delibird, Ledian, Farfetch'd
Truly a formidable trio
That strikes fear into the hearts of...
Literally nobody
I dunno you might be able to run off a wormadam-grass
I'd honestly be more scared of a Murkrow
well ok two of those might
I think wormy might actually still win against ledian
which says something about ledian
Nah there's no way
wait mb I forgot ledian does get air slash
Fire...
Flareon's here, right?
Like, Flareon, Magcargo, Camerupt
That sounds right, I think
Though order is probably more like
Magcargo, Flareon, Camerupt
I can see that
Actually maybe Rapidash and Turtonator can fill in for some slots
And maybe Simisear too?
gonna just say castform's not counted and move on
Magcargo I think has to be number 1 worst though
Oh right Heatmor
Yeah Heatmor's probably 2nd I think
I dunno is emboar relevant in a context
It isn't even the worst Fire starter
I know coalossal was apparently good in VGC but only when dynamax was allowed
Typhlosion is, and it fucking slams every other Pokemon we've brought up
typhlosion I'm assuming? or delphox
probably one of those two
Delphox is not close to the bottom too I'd say
Zard's certainly closer
And I think Emboar itself would be next
actually I should probably just have smogon up so I can have a general idea
Maybe Simisear will surprise me idk
And maybe Rapidash could too
So I think to be safe, I'd say Flareon or Turtonator in 3rd
shoutouts to torkoal and ninetales both being listed as ZU but having OU usage anyway because Drought
I'd lean much more on flareon/magcargo/heatmor?
Anyways speaking of Magcargo, what about Rock type?
I'm just going over each type for fun by now
ok this is very off topic but
dang smogon has a lot of fire typed CAP's
ok back on topic again the rocks
I mean magcargo and H-avalugg and corsola are all good options but uh
Carracosta, Magcargo, Sudowoodo, Havalugg, Corsola at the top of my head
rock is kinda like ice with a lot bigger of a barrel to choose from in terms of Bad
heckin H-avalugg isn't even ZU wow
Tera
Bottom text
As soon as Tera is gone, Havalugg is sinking to ZU
And I don't know if I want to consider it for that reason
Corsola has to be worst
But does it even count
stonjourner too?
that might be another "bad but the rungs of bad go even lower" case
Stonjourner's an option
I think I'd personally have Magcargo here at 2nd worst
But there's so many options man
Ermmmm
Bastiodon?
Maybe?
I have no clue tbh
Going on to Steel though, and I think it'll be easier
Technically Meltan counts as fully evolved
But that's mean
So I'm not counting it
And then it's just so simple like
Mawile
Trashdam
