i have a headcanon that every time blue is ever a jerk he's just joking around and red and blue are of course genuinely rivals but also such close friends that blue knows he can be standoffishly joke-mean to red because red knows it's a joke

and a pet theory that people think blue is worse than he is because of gary

because gary is actually a stuck-up jerk to ash. you can hear it in his voice, and see it in his slapstick disregard for ash's wellbeing. it's relatively hard to look at his meanness as joking around, because we have vocals and animations put to it. but blue never says or does anything absolutely unambiguously mean, that couldn't be taken as a friendly competitive jab, and he even sometimes gives red advice or helps him out. plus look at how close they are in sun & moon

ORAS was cool, BW has some of the best characthers in the series and Sun and Moon is still just Vibing and being the best)

they should make a switch version of pokemon stadium to host competitive on
connect it to home and stuff, and have different formats that you can play in like showdown has
and since it would be tied to a single game, they could just update it with new pokemon whenever they want, so they wouldn't have the same deadlines as the main series, and could take their time to ensure quality
