How did you even manage to upscale it like that?
Almost looks like when droplets fall on paper with the way it's extra blurry in some spots for no reason

i used snip tool to upscale instead of just upscaling to 256x256. just zoomed in in my image editor and clipped it lol

Here’s a very quick edit I did to the sprite. It’s a very good first attempt.

My main advice, is to darken the outlines in general. In some places, the colors and parts blend together, so using more black outlines or just darkening the existing ones is good.

I also suggest a bit more shading, especially on their hair and sleeves. For example, on the left leg, making it entirely shaded helps it look further back/ improves perspective.

From my understanding vent art is art you make to make a feeling out of your system. Like if you are sad or angry and make your character sad or angry to hopefully left those negative feeling on the page rather than in you.
Kinda like when you see a a movie with both exiting and sad moment. Your mood change with the character but you left those behind with the character in the movie rather than continuously feel the excitement or sadeness. (well, it doesn't work always I guess and it mainly depend or the type of people you are. But it work for some people)
