They're dark creatures that hide in broken pokeballs, and become mines. So if you step on them, they explode. When they evolve, they can form more of a shell. I think I had the first form pure steel type, and the second Steel/Dark. They have high speed and low defense like the voltorb line. And they like to use self destruct/explosion

My arms are dying at an alarming rate, but it was a lot more nice than I expected: there was an eerily peaceful silence around, so much that we could literally whisper to each other from different canoes on opposite banks of the river (river canoeing by the way, yeah). It's the kind of silence in this day and time I thought you could only get during mindfulness exercises, but I was pleasantly proven wrong

designed some silly little alternate type Gengars!!!
Normal Gengar is inspired somewhat by the Clefable's shadow theory, at least with the marking placement. I intend to draw from that idea more if/when I design a fairy type Gengar. The rest is just based on common themes in normal type pokemon!
Fighting Gengar started with the idea of giving Gengar a mouthguard, since its big grin would make for an easy target. From there, I decided to take some more ideas from american football apparel and color schemes.
Psychic Gengar is based mostly on Mega Gengar! You can see this in the gradiented pattern and the third eye. I decided to use Gengar's mega as inspiration, because third eyes are often associated with enlightenment, inner potential, and psychic abilities. Psychic types are pretty broad aesthetically, so I kinda just had fun with this one! :)
