Currently it is in my "downloads" folder and I would like it to be somwhere else since I always need to scroll downs so far. But I am afraid that it will corrupt the game data or something. If you want to use a controller, close the game, plug in your controller to your PC, and then open the Game.

Be aware, pressing F1 to remap controllers will not work. You need to use a 3rd party app like Steam or JoyToKey to remap your controller to keyboard presses. Ex: A button to Accept/Confirm = C Keyboard Key

So, a rather curious thing. I just recently downloaded the installer/updater app program, and when I go to use the "Install Custom Sprites" option, it goes along for a while before declaring that it can't find "CustomBattlers\470.6.png" in the game's Graphic's folder. And when I go to look, the folder itself is just gone.

I've since downloaded the April sprite pack to put the folder back, but there isn't a 470.6 in that folder to begin with it goes 470.3 then 470.15.

I figure since I've downloaded the sprite pack manually, I don't need to run the Install Custom Sprites option, but I figured I'd mention the issue here in case I'm misunderstanding something.

youre on documents folder anyway, that can also prevent the installation since "documents" is a more protected folder by default .... drag the entire game folder on the desktop or in the downloads folder so you wont have permission issues

No, I put the game folder originally in My Games (in My Documents), then I just recently moved it to Desktop per your instruction.

I could probably just do a wipe of the whole folder and do a total re-install. I haven't played in a long while so I wouldn't be losing too much if I lost the save.

then you can try to install custom sprites again

Deleted the folder, had the app install it anew in Downloads. Same problem. Then tried it on Desktop. Same error. This is quite curious. Unfortunately, I have to head forth for a bit, so troubleshooting will have to be put on hold.

I may just have to rely on manually downloading the custom sprites every once in a while.

Preloaded is only for computers that perform poorly or if you want to play 100% offline. Otherwise, open Game.exe and the game will open without crashing.
Preloaded doesn't work out of the box. You need to set it up using either of the two guides below:

2. Manual Preloaded Guide using a zip file (best for those with slow/unstable internet): Guide

Turn off randomized trainers. Remix and expert mode have specific trainer data so randomizing them breaks it

Same concept. Preloaded is like 300k files. Custom sprites like 180k. So smaller amount of sprites but still a lot. It would help performance though

Ok cool. So there is a steam deck bug when right clicking a Non-Steam game and adding them to steam is not working (found about this recently)

It affects a small number of users. But essentially you need to Open Steam in Desktop mode and remove the game from your Library

1. Afterwards, In steam, use the button on the bottom left named + Add a game
2. Select Add a non-steam game
3. Click Browse and find Game.exe from there
4. Go back to Gaming mode
5. Set Proton again
6. Try to open again

open your game folder and double click the shortcut named SaveFile. That is where your saves are

the screenshot you showed is your save file folder, but you put the wrong files in there.

Circled is your save file location. X's are the wrong files. SaveFiles are named File A.rxdata for example

I think what happened is that the save files were lost when I moved my data over from my old computer. I didn't back up my Appdata files, which is where they are stored. I just assumed they would be stored with the other game files. That's what I get for assuming, I guess. Luckily for me, my brother played this game and got the magic boots. I was able to copy his data over and now I can start again with the boots. Kind of bummed that my data is gone forever, but that's just how it goes. Thanks for your help.
