you are overthinking it to be honest. You literally dont have to worry about sprites at all. The game just does it for you
Also you dont need lutris to play this game. No idea how it is ran or how you would update future GAME versions with lutris

Seems like your computer isn't strong enough to calculate the data when it is in super speed. This game uses a lot of on the fly calculations so your computer is struggling to keep up

this game is processor heavy vs graphics. You could try setting up preloaded (basically install ALL the sprites and play in our offline launcher)

no worries. When you reopen if you see a path there, that means your game folder is linked. And that this is the path of where your game is and the folder it will use to open the game, play the game, install the sprites to, etc
if that isn't the folder you want to install sprites into, then change it before proceeding

I would suspect you have 2 game folders
you installed the preloaded sprites in one and then when you were trying to relink again, you relinked a different game folder
so you probably have it setup in a different folder than where you are pointing it to right now

So you can actually use the app installer to see which one has sprites. You can link it to the other folder not linked and see if preloaded is setup by using the checkbox in settings.

you can use either. The app will keep you updated and let you know whenever new sprites/new game updates are made. If you dont want that, then you can open it from the folder

That is your preference. I would personally cry if i couldn't use speed up lol
so you kinda gotta decide:
- Lag/Slowness using Game.exe
- Long opening time but faster in game performance Game-preloaded
If you keep preloaded, make sure to turn off Download Sprites from in game settings and your keybinds change also

so right now your game is sorting the sprites, so that is why it is taking extra long. but because you opened it with preloaded it is going to crash.
Preloaded needs the sprites to be imported and sorted BEFORE opening so you will have to wait double the amount
or close the game and reopen the normal version kinda up to you at this point lol

So you can:
- Leave the game open how it is. It is going to take longer and then crash. It is fine though, reopening the game after will be fine.
- Close the game. Open the normal game (will be faster to sort sprites). You will see a message that 144k sprites were imported and then you can close the game and reopen Preloaded.
Either will work, kinda just gotta wait it out now lol

For example, Superspeed on the image above, is the Q key. You need to remap your left bumper (or whatever button you want) to the Q keyboard Key
If you want the B button on your steam deck to be the Back button, you need to remap your B button to be the Escape Key on your keyboard

If you want to use a controller, close the game, plug in your controller to your PC, and then open the Game.
Be aware, pressing F1 to remap controllers will not work. You need to use a 3rd party app like Steam or JoyToKey to remap your controller to keyboard presses. Ex: A button to Accept/Confirm = C Keyboard Key

Preloaded is only for computers that perform poorly or if you want to play 100% offline. Otherwise, open Game.exe and the game will open without crashing.
Preloaded doesn't work out of the box. You need to set it up using either of the two guides below:

If you are having sudden performance issues out of nowhere, restart your computer (no joke). Don’t shut down the computer as it just puts it to sleep. Use the restart option to free up processes on your computer.

You can enable Debug Mode by catching all 470 base Pokemon in a non-randomized file. After doing so, the Developer in Celadon will reward you with Magic Boots. For an additional reward you can ping a moderator to give you a cool dex completion role, proof screenshot required.
