You're talking about how it downloads sprites? Preloaded would be that it downloads them all in one go, dynamic means that it downloads them when it needs the specific sprites

I personally suggest installing to a folder right off of C: instead. Some users have OneDrive locking files in Documents.

Hey @kindred wren! Are you having trouble with the Pokéradar? You get it from the scientist in Cerulean City's Pokécenter. She gives you the Exp share as a quest reward there, and then will go to Route 24, where she will give you the radar.
When using it, make sure you have a repel active, or else you may only get regular encounters.

then I turned the randomizer from 45 to 25 and turned off force custom sprites. still won't work

turned off npc randomizer entirely and it works (tho now there's a 5-10 second delay every time a mon is sent out at all) but I would like to not have to do that

According to @minor lily and one of the pinned messages in this channel. The solution may sadly be to delete your save file.
You can of course try a fresh install of the game or a different launcher first if you like.
Rename C:Users/AppData/Roaming/InfiniteFusion to something else, then continue to the point in the game you were before. If you can proceed, you have found the problem.

Now I'm worried it's your save file but not at all sure.
You didn't just copy the game files over, but really did a clean install? Really no randomizer stuff?
It has trouble getting the name of the fossil from that specific file. Usually that's because of randomizer stuff or that file is busted. But a completely fresh install of newest version should fix that

Other parts of the error line up with save issues

You can try using the alternate launcher or the preloaded version, but both of them have issues right now which you need the thing in the top pin to fix.

Just a lurker, but for every pokemon added, it creates some logistical burdens. The number of pokemon in the game can be represented as n^2 where n is the number of pokemon. The number gets really big really fast. That’s probably why it might not be too easy to do logistically. It would take a long time to do those sprites. This is just an armchair observation from a nontechnical standpoint.

If u didn't have 8 badges before updating you have to start over anyways due to a softlock bug that appears when updating to a 5.0 or greater version from one pre 5.0
