Well, to be fair we actually don't know if tehre is real animal in the pokemon world. there definitely no real animal in the games. Pokedex entry sometime refere to real animal name but that might just be name they use in their world to talk about certain species (like we use some latin word for categories species ourself. maybe those real animal name are like the latin name equivalent for them).
Also we know for a fact that some pokemon eat other pokemon (again, pokedex entries).
As for the anime, I don't remember much about it. But it is definitely not following the rules of the game so it's like it's a different world all together

I think Trap is way people use to designed people (real or not) that look like a gender (mostly because of surgery) and are in fact the other one but still have both gender characteristic in but try to make you think otherwise.
