Fun fact about me, I actually had my own equivalent to the "following GPS off a pier," just less devastating.

I delivered pizzas in Steamboat Springs Colorado for a few years, especially winter. This one order sent me on a roundabout route up the mountain that seemed to go down near the end right to the destination. Eventually I came across a place it looked like it wanted me to go and sorta looked like a road and I was panicked enough that I trusted it. It was a snowbank and I got stuck, the GPS was trying to send me down a walking trail that's not there in the winter then down a ski slope to get there.

Luckily it was right by the place they store all the big mountain maintenance vehicles so I was able to get unstuck by the guys in there, but what a gaffe that was.

Between that and not realizing or knowing that a player in my (voiced) DND group was a guy for a year and a half led me to my conclusion that I'm that kind of sitcom side character.
