Dear Planet Fitness: You have brought this on yourself. I will be paying for the memberships of many homeless people and will be sending them to my nearest Planet Fitness Gym for them to get free food. I will then proceed to barge into your warehouse and eat all the pizza.

hey c:

@empty estuary from their website:
1981
"The Government responds to Plain English Campaign by setting up a review under Sir Derek Rayner. With our help they rewote 58,000 forms, making immediate savings of £15 million."

1984
"The Cabinet Office distributes 1,700 copies of 'The word is Plain English', a guide to clear writing for civil servants."

1994
"After intense lobbying by Plain English Campaign, an EC directive declares that any term in a consumer contract can only be enforced if it is written in 'plain and intelligible language'."

#

As some examples

empty estuary
#

So they made English more simple to learn and understand in the 1990s?

pearl pier
#

Yes

#

My council letters are in "plain english"

clever sundial
#

Yes, they're still around today

#

And do the same things today

empty estuary
#

and have made no other relevant acomplishments currently

pearl pier
#

Well, it's still around today

empty estuary
#

But what has it done today?

pearl pier
#

What is the topic at hand?

#

and I can tell you

#

How they helped regular folk?

empty estuary
#

i just think the education sector that isnt voluntary is pointless

pearl pier
empty estuary
#

Like im a voluntary sports coach educator

clever sundial
#

2005

"Our staff make visits to Ireland, South Africa and Jerusalem, and the Grundtvig project - a network which links different plain language organisations from around Europe - starts coming together.

Peter Griffiths and George Maher travel to Moscow to speak on behalf of the campaign at an international conference organised by the State University."
empty estuary
#

and i helped a lot more people doing that then being a teacher

pearl pier
#

You want kids to not go to school if they dont want to?

clever sundial
#

Is the last relevant thing to this convo on their history timeline

empty estuary
pearl pier
#

I mean it wasn't clear what you meant

empty estuary
#

Like working in it

pearl pier
#

I'm sorry I missed some of the conversation

empty estuary
#

Like being a teacher for good reasons is pointless

clever sundial
#

So yeah while the Plain English Campaign are somewhat different to what I'm after, we're both for the same thing

empty estuary
#

My job was to go to schools and teach sports that ive never played or taught before

clever sundial
#

Making shit understandable by the common man

empty estuary
#

even when i wasnt qualified to do so

#

and i was being paid to go to schools about a hour away for me

#

getting a apprentices wage

pearl pier
clever sundial
#

I grew up poor and had a shitty education, and I'm also Autistic

pearl pier
#

At least I've seen videos of teachers at the end of their ropes

empty estuary
clever sundial
#

Infact I almost didn't have an education at all, due to the NHS being so shit

empty estuary
#

in my opinion education is a place to branch out and socialise

pearl pier
empty estuary
#

What they educate you on except obviously the core parts of education is useless

pearl pier
#

I think education should be a place to make friends

empty estuary
#

Most people with high qualifications get drowned out due to experience

clever sundial
#

Wasn't diagnosed until I was 16, had to be pulled out of school at 12 because I was so intensely bullied and wasn't helped at all despite being clearly disadvantaged because I had no official diagnosis

empty estuary
#

I failed maths

#

and was able to do a teaching job

clever sundial
#

Didn't return to school until I was 16

pearl pier
empty estuary
#

But the requirments are minimum passes

#

and a relevant degree

pearl pier
#

Then i'm not surprised, you don't need maths to teach someone sports

clever sundial
empty estuary
#

But unless your doing a pratical course

#

for example Physiotherapist

#

Its ridiculous

pearl pier
#

I think that education is incredibly important, maybe it wasn't for you and maybe it isn't for some other people, but there are people who are inventing things, advancing sciences

#

things you don't see

clever sundial
#

Because I had to be pulled out of school

empty estuary
empty estuary
pearl pier
#

I finished school and went to university and I think school is incredibly important

#

I was able to instantly get into a good job

#

My friends who went to uni are all working

clever sundial
#

And I'm not alone in being disadvantaged, sure my case may be more severe than most common folk, but that doesn't mean they're not at a disadvantage when it comes to things like understanding academia

empty estuary
#

?

clever sundial
#

Inb4 nepotism

empty estuary
pearl pier
empty estuary
#

did you apply for the job

#

how did you find it

pearl pier
#

How? I applied

#

I looked online

empty estuary
pearl pier
#

I actually moved far from home to bournemouth

empty estuary
#

Online just popped it in google

pearl pier
#

where i knew nobody

empty estuary
#

Damn i think Bourmouth isnt that far from me

#

lol

clever sundial
pearl pier
#

no, on job searching sites, something like indeed

clever sundial
#

I'm bad at explaining shit

empty estuary
pearl pier
#

It was like 7 years ago

#

it's not an argument for me

empty estuary
#

See it as a discussion

clever sundial
#

Discussion

#

All the same to me

empty estuary
clever sundial
#

Either way I'm not good at it

empty estuary
#

My colege experience

#

not uni

#

didnt go

#

But all i did was leanr fuck al

#

do all my mates work for them

#

They get higher grades then me

#

Lol

pearl pier
#

jobs dont care about college

empty estuary
#

Play semi professional Rugby

pearl pier
#

college is to just set you up for uni

empty estuary
#

Got a shitty qualifiaction and off i went

clever sundial
#

I've learnt a lot of useful shit during my time in Uni, but I've struggled with it because I can't read Academia

pearl pier
#

that's why its all about ucas pouints

empty estuary
clever sundial
#

For context I'm doing a Modern History degree

pearl pier
#

you shouldnt need a degree in some unrelated field to become a sports teacher

empty estuary
#

Im primarily was a sports teacher

#

However i need to specialise in someting else as well

empty estuary
#

But i was just let in for some reason

clever sundial
#

Dunno how relevant it is but sports teachers often also acted as subs in my secondary school

pearl pier
clever sundial
#

There was one dude that was really cool, let us chill and listen to music throughout the lessons when he subbed

empty estuary
empty estuary
#

Lol

clever sundial
#

Think so lol

pearl pier
#

brexit partly

clever sundial
#

It was French

empty estuary
#

But they could still do it to a relevant degree

clever sundial
pearl pier
#

but also a lack of people wanting to become teachers

empty estuary
#

You think thats the main reaosn theres a lack of teacher

pearl pier
clever sundial
#

I think pay is a big issue

pearl pier
#

pay is part of it

clever sundial
#

All my uni tutors were on strike as part of the union strikes last year

#

I bought them some biscuits

pearl pier
#

and uni tutors make WAYYYY more than teachers

#

like 50% more

empty estuary
#

Get weekends off

clever sundial
#

One of my teachers was a contractor, she showed us roughly how much she made, iirc it was jack shit

pearl pier
#

oh my maths teacher was polish

empty estuary
#

Get funded trips

pearl pier

and so on

clever sundial
pearl pier
clever sundial

He was fucking great

empty estuary
#

I think teaching convience wise is one of the best jobs in existence

pearl pier
#

but there was 8 snowboarders

empty estuary
#

you can do the bare minimum

pearl pier
#

and 3 got injured

empty estuary
#

make a living

#

and get great holidays

pearl pier
#

they didnt do snowboarding next year haha

empty estuary
#

and cool trips

clever sundial
#

For the last 2 weeks of lessons he had us watch some films in French about indigenous African folk tales

#

Was really interesting

empty estuary
#

What the problem and struggle as a teacher is wanting to actually educate uselful things to know

pearl pier
empty estuary
#

and actually help your students

clever sundial
pearl pier
#

still milking them for profit 😦

#

it's sad

clever sundial
#

Forcefully tying them in to the French economy

pearl pier
#

they take a huge percentage as a tax

empty estuary
#

Yeh its sad

pearl pier
#

on all their profits

#

colonisation is horrible

#

and it's bad because people lump places like the falklands in with it

#

which aren't the same

clever sundial
#

At first we all thought he was a weirdo as he insisted we called him Doctor as I believe he had a doctorate, and he could be very stubborn about things and serious

#

But as the year went on we warmed up to him, he was great

#

We all loved him at the end

#

By far one of the best teachers I ever had

pearl pier
#

an empty island claimed before argentina was even a country, it's full of british people, and they think they have a right to it "because its close"

clever sundial
#

there are more sheep than people in the falklands

clever sundial
#

if we are for self-determination

#

then let the sheep vote

pearl pier
#

hahaha

#

That's how we get a sheep led dictatorship

clever sundial
#

Iirc falklands population is like 28k people and like double that in sheep

pearl pier
#

I want to go

clever sundial
#

Will always remember Doctor Valentine

pearl pier
#

I've been to other british overseas territories because I find them super interesting

pearl pier
clever sundial
#

We at first said doctor as a way to mock his demeanour, but we eventually shifted to using it because we respected him

#

We had a horrible teacher the next year, so the first time we saw Dr. Valentine, we begged for him to teach us instead lol

pearl pier
#

I've been to Gibraltar, the UK virgin islands, bemuda

#

i'd love to see more

clever sundial
#

Was the only year I genuinely engaged with my French classes

pearl pier
#

tbh Gibraltar was the most british i'd been to

clever sundial
#

I've never left the country, I want to though

clever sundial
#

Not independent enough to travel internationally though

#

Yet anyway

pearl pier
#

She was called Mrs. Day :l

pearl pier
clever sundial
#

I made my first trip entirely independently earlier this year

pearl pier
#

maybe try short trips on your own, then longer, and longer, and longer

clever sundial
#

Took the train to leeds to visit my nanna

#

Stayed for a week

#

Was relaxing

pearl pier
#

ahh nice c: that's great

#

nans make the best food too

#

very homely

clever sundial
#

She's not one for cooking lol

#

She is surprisingly progressive in her politics though

#

For an elderly person

#

That side of my family is very politically active

#

Often have shouting matches with eachother

#

Or used to anyway, when my uncle was around

pearl pier
#

my grandad listens to a lot of radio and he thinks brexit wasn't that bad of an idea

clever sundial
#

He and his brother would shout at eachother constantly

pearl pier
#

but if he gets all his media from radio :/

#

it's easy for him to be manipulated

#

doesnt help one of his sons is racism

#

racist*

clever sundial
#

Uncle Mick died last year of cancer, so I didn't get to experience the shouting matches this year

pearl pier
#

I try and get my family to be more politically active

#

my mum seems to be left wing, but not so active

clever sundial
#

My nan let me choose what room to stay in, either her old room or my Uncle Mick's, I chose hers just because it'd feel weird to me sleeping in Mick's room as it's still his room to me

pearl pier
#

my dad is like centre

clever sundial
#

I took a political test last week

clever sundial
#

The 10 axis one

pearl pier
#

ah yes

clever sundial
#

I got social democrat

#

Did the long version

pearl pier
#

ahh

clever sundial
#

Based on convos with my nan this is roughly where she is too

pearl pier
#

i'm much more left than you

clever sundial
#

Fair

#

I think I'm mostly centre-left because I'm much more for gradual reform

#

Rather than immediate reform

pearl pier
#

I'd probably be democratic socialism

clever sundial
#

Fair

pearl pier
#

Where's the test?

#

Ill take it right now

clever sundial
#

It's really long

pearl pier
#

I've taken another before

clever sundial
#

160 odd questions

pearl pier
#

It's ok

clever sundial
#

Took an hour

pearl pier
#

Im fast

clever sundial
#

My friend did it at the same time, he got half-way between conservative and neocon

#

Though the way he talks I always taunt him and call him an ancap

#

As he's very much for unregulated capitalism

pearl pier
#

alright ill be back soon

clever sundial
#

Have fun lol

pearl pier
#

i think really i might be more authleft

clever sundial
#

I'm generally for a decentralised government

pearl pier
#

ah a lot of it is quite american-centric

#

If the electoral college exists at all, electoral votes needs to be adjusted so that different states/regions get representation.

clever sundial
#

Yeah, that was an issue I had

#

I don't know any for European politics, only American

pearl pier
#

It's ok, I just went neutral

#

It wont affect it much

#

90/153

#

"The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race."
That's a quote from the Unibomber

#

in his manifesto

clever sundial
#

Lmao

#

Was wondering where that quote was from

#

Reject modernity, embrace fuedal serfdom

#

Btw merry Christmast from Ján Slota

pearl pier
#

@clever sundial about where i thought

clever sundial
#

Fair

pearl pier
#

turns out im not that authoritarian

#

although i am slightly

#

i think that's about right, really

#

I believe in democracy and think autocracys are not cool

#

Progressivism, Social democracy, Democratic socialism, Libertarian Socialism

clever sundial
#

I don't believe autocracies are inherently a bad thing, just that the majority of autocrats we have, have been bad

pearl pier
#

those are my matches

clever sundial
#

Though I am in favour of democracy over autocracy lol

pearl pier
clever sundial
#

Usually yes

#

Doesn't mean they have to be though

pearl pier
#

Not necessarily

#

Hence I have some authoritarian dings on my compass

clever sundial
#

Yeah fair

pearl pier
#

I think the right kind of person in power could be okay

clever sundial
#

Same

pearl pier
#

I actually would like to learn more about gadaffi

#

I've heard a lot of interesting things about him

clever sundial
#

Atatürk was an undoubtedly amazing leader, regardless of what you think of him or Türks

#

I've heard a lot of good about Gadaffi

pearl pier
#

Hahah yea and he's loved by turkish nationalists

clever sundial
#

For good reason

pearl pier
#

I think Gadaffi truly did have a vision to make africa a better place, especially libya

#

but I also think he was corrupt

clever sundial
#

Who isn't

pearl pier
#

he planned to help his people, but also enrich himself

clever sundial
#

It's not about who is and isn't corrupt, it's who's the most corrupt

#

Everyone is corrupt in modern politics

pearl pier
#

I would think I wouldn't be corrupt in the sense of having a full room made out of gold a

#

i would want enough money to live comfortably

#

and if being the leader paid that

#

that would be enough

clever sundial
#

Fair

pearl pier
#

I don't understand this excess consumerism where they just want things for the sake of saying they have them

clever sundial
#

I envy Tito for being able to hold together a nation near singlehandedly

pearl pier
#

what functional benefit does a room made out of gold have?

clever sundial
#

Or so I've heard anyway

#

People with more riches tend to be more unhappy

#

It's like they're compensating for their own lack of morality or something lol

pearl pier
clever sundial
#

Yeah

pearl pier
#

and it turns out that having more money actually improves your well being and happiness.. up until about £120,000 (or dollar equiv) a year.

After that, it doesn't do anything for you. Literally nothing.

It seems that as long as you're getting all your basic needs met, that's enough

clever sundial
#

Sounds like Maslow

pearl pier
#

that being said, on an individual level, it varies

clever sundial
#

As someone who did A-level Psychology, it always varies

#

Psychology, while it is a science, by nature cannot be an exact science

#

We can only ever have a "best fit" sort of idea

#

Because, believe it or not

#

People

#

Are different

#

Revolutionary, isn't it?

pearl pier
#

Hahah

#

that really surprisies me

#

I thought we were all the same

clever sundial
#

The hivemind is real fr

pearl pier
#

but yea, psychology is tough, because it often studies what a specific set of minds say or answer, in a specific point in time, with specific people, in one place.

And of course this can't be extrapolated to other people in a different time, necessarily

#

So it truly is a best fit scenario

#

We're still far away from understanding the human mind

clever sundial
#

In politics I also hate the "realist" school of thought (iirc thats what its called"

#

)*

#

The one that assumes all actors are rational

#

Because uhh

#

no

pearl pier
#

Yea realism

#

The school of thought is mostly applied to countries leaders

#

and the thinking is that, most of the time, they have a team of experts and people to dial them in if they get off track

#

but this is a huge assumption

clever sundial
#

The ideal is to act rationally, yes, but A)
Rationalism is a human-defined concept, what is and isn't rational differs depending on the person
B) humans do not act rationally

pearl pier
#

when we look at stalin, surrounded by yes men, it's very hard to see that anybody would "dial him in". He would've acted irrationally most certainly

clever sundial
#

I took a course on state-state relations in my first year in uni

pearl pier
#

And yes, even the most rational humans act with the best of their knowledge

clever sundial
#

Which is where I learn about rationalism

#

Learnt*

#

First thing I did was interject with "but people don't act rationallyx

#

"*

pearl pier
#

If they aren't told the reality of the situation in war, they will never act rationally according to other countries

#

Hahha yea, well, they don't

clever sundial
#

Lecturer just responded with something like "are you doing a psychology degree?"

#

Because yeah I'm taking a social science standpoint lol

pearl pier
#

I see the dumbest stuff, honestly

#

people are stupid

#

truly

#

and they do dumb stuff

clever sundial
#

People are inherently stupid

#

The objective, then, is to try to not be stupid

pearl pier
#

50% of people are below avg intelligence

clever sundial
#

It's why we have education

pearl pier
#

(at least the median)

clever sundial
#

If we were all born as rational, logical individuals

#

We would not need to be taught what rationality and logic was

pearl pier
#

Sadly

#

Is it something we were born with, though?

#

I found that when I was young, I was just able to 'get it'

#

i don't want to humble brag or anything

clever sundial
#

That's because you're able to intuit things

#

It means it was self-evident to you

pearl pier
#

you know i have my weaknesses

clever sundial
#

Not that you were just born rational and logical

#

It's that you understood it

pearl pier
#

I guess my parents were good teachers too

clever sundial
#

You had a good natural capacity for it

pearl pier
#

I'm not quite sure

clever sundial
#

Some people are naturally "more" rational than others, in that common ideas of rationality are inherently intuitive and self-evident to some people

pearl pier
#

But I know that I felt that people were "acting dumb to make people laugh" when they asked stupid questions

clever sundial
pearl pier
#

But it took me being in my 20s to realizing they werent playing dumb

pearl pier
#

But there's no part of our brain for rationality

clever sundial
#

Iirc there's a philosophical razor that's just assume people are stupid or ignorant than inherently malicious

#

Because it usually is the case that they are stupid or ignorant

kindred hazel
#

huh, y'all're still at it?

clever sundial
#

Yeah lol

pearl pier
#

there's no physical brain for rational thinking

kindred hazel
#

Preem, glad too see something going on

pearl pier
#

which would suggest it's a learned skill

clever sundial
#

I agree with that

clever sundial
#

I just think that, with everything, some people are more naturally inclined to certain things than others

pearl pier
#

or occams

#

i can't remember which

clever sundial
#

Occams is keep it simple, stupid

#

So it'd be Hanlon

pearl pier
#

I think it's hanlons then

#

yea

pearl pier
#

and some dont

clever sundial
#

They do

#

I want to be intelligent

pearl pier
#

maybe it's an early learned behaviour?

clever sundial
#

Perhaps

pearl pier
#

For me it's more "I find X interesting, I'll read books on it and understand it more"

clever sundial
#

I very much take a meritocratic stance when it comes to shit like this

#

Y'know

#

Right job for the right person

pearl pier
#

Or "I'll look it up" or "listen to audiobooks/youtube videos"

clever sundial
#

Some people are better at things that others

#

That's just

#

A fact

pearl pier
#

I wish

#

But yeah, I take the same stance

clever sundial
#

I'd like to think all "rational" humans want it this way

pearl pier
#

Most of our nepo-baby leaders ould not fail in school, because their grades would never be a fail

pearl pier
clever sundial
#

Eg I would not become a sports coach because I'm unsuited for it, and anyone who would make me one is an idiot

#

(for context I'm physically disabled, I have to use a cane outside of the house)

pearl pier
#

I can't get into politics too much, but I hate how people don't look into the nuance or use critical thinking skillls, and instead go for the side of a conflict their country supports

#

and i am not talking about anything specific

kindred hazel
#

though sports is a decent enough framework to prove the point in. Train them how you want, bulk them up how you want, some folks just aint gonna be your QB

clever sundial
#

Dunno what qb is but yeah

#

Sports, and competitive shit in general, is a very meritocratic system

kindred hazel
#

Quarterback, American Football

clever sundial
#

Some people just are going to be better than others

clever sundial
#

I get you

pearl pier
#

Tbh they suffer more head injuries

#

i guess they think their padded suit makes them safe

clever sundial
#

The illusion of safety lol

pearl pier
#

so they run at people full force and slam them

#

exactly

#

I guess cars have the same idea

#

Notion of safety

#

but you're in a heavy metal ball of death

clever sundial
#

It's interesting though with cars

kindred hazel
#

the more fragile the car, technically the safer the passengers.
At least, thats the line being fed for why everythings fiberglass these days

clever sundial
#

Professional racers, despite having cars kitted with safety measures like cages, are more aware of safety than anyone else

pearl pier
#

the crumple zone takes the impact, and slow the car down, reducing the impact the passengers feel

#

Most cars are tested, and some you can find videos

kindred hazel
#

I mean i get the science behind it, insomuch as a layman can, just throwing my two cents in every so often. Don't lurk too well im afraid

pearl pier
#

A very solid car would be worse

#

because it would just hit and the passengers would take full force impact

clever sundial
#

I'm more familiar with ballistics than this

pearl pier
#

it's basically padding

clever sundial
#

Because I'm a war nut

pearl pier
#

if you imagine covering yourself in bubble wrap 3 inches thick

clever sundial
#

Me like the giant metal death machine

pearl pier
#

it will hurt less if you jump on the floor with that

#

than without bubble wrap

clever sundial
pearl pier
#

but if you covered yourself in metal

#

you would probably hurt more

#

so the idea of crumple zones is to be the bubble wrap in a crash

#

it's softer than metal, so it crushes and becomes padding, slowing your stop and reducting damage

#

it's used because it works

clever sundial
#

Technology peaked with the BT-7A btw

#

Fast and stronk

#

All you need

pearl pier
#

right i better got to sleep

clever sundial
#

Christie suspension go brr

pearl pier
#

it's very late!

clever sundial
#

I woke up at midnight

pearl pier
#

christmas tomorrow and i have to drop off some gifts

#

and see my parents

clever sundial
#

Haven't been able to get back to sleep

pearl pier
#

gn all

clever sundial
#

Night Ryan

kindred hazel
#

I always stay up through christmas eve, so i'll catch ya later

pearl pier
#

feel free to add me nur1!

clever sundial
#

Sure

pearl pier
#

it was nice chatting

clever sundial
#

Same

#

Love me a good intellectual conversation at 3 fucking am

kindred hazel
#

thats when they always happen obviously, we lose our damn at 1 in the morning and it devolves from there

clever sundial
#

Yeah lol

#

Not sure what I want to play

#

Options are CK3, HoI4 and Morrowind

An Individual after my own heart, there. Morrowind in this day and age

clever sundial
#

I was born the same year it came out

#

Got it like 2-3 years back

#

Fell in love during my second attempt at getting in to it

#

It is a masterpiece for its time in rpg design

#

It hasn't aged perfectly, but it certainly still holds up as a good game

kindred hazel
#

I'd vote for CK3, out of those. Good for turning off your brain and waking up realizing your heir inherited france and your at war with spain, Somehow
I grew up on oblivion, rather than morrowind, but i can perfectly respect the charm

clever sundial
#

Unlike Oblivion, which I think aged like shit imo

#

I grew up with Skyrim

#

To someone who started with Skyrim, and played all 3 (in reverse order(, Oblivion feels like an awkward middle child

#

)*

kindred hazel
#

Oblivion was the start of needing to mod it for it to feel great, bethesda wise.
But being able to spellcraft was and is still my favorite mechanic

clever sundial
#

Skyrim is for if I want to turn my brain off

#

Morrowind is if I want to use my brain

#

Oblivion tries both and doesn't do well at either imo

#

The combat is stale and boring, but the leveling system is so broken it requires you to micromanage your level ups more than any other game

#

So I can't just turn my brain off and sword go brr like Skyrim

kindred hazel
#

Morrowind Miss Chance.

clever sundial
#

Dud to how intertwined leveling and combat is in Elder Scrolls, if one system is bad the other will suffer because of it

clever sundial
#

It's not an issue with the system being bad, it's with how it's presented that confused people

#

Confuses*

#

If Morrowind was, say, a top-down isometric crpg instead with the same systems

#

Nobody would complain about the miss chance, at least not in the same way

kindred hazel
#

Its hard to say 'thats xcom baby' when it happens in real time, i suppose

clever sundial
#

It is very much an issue of people coming off of newer games and expecting the older games to work the same

#

I know this, because I had the same issue at first

#

Again, I don't think Morrowind is flawless, but I do think people give it shit out of ignorance (not intentional ignorance though)

kindred hazel
#

It has a wonderful bit of charm and polish, but for better or worse it just feels... Unique compared to its competition, i suppose?

clever sundial
#

Because it is unique

#

It is very different

#

And again, I think part of the issue is people coming off of newer games

kindred hazel
#

Like, the scroll of icarian flight. Its a wonderful one off joke at first, and something you can actively abuse if you think about it.
But ya dont really see things like that these days, so we ain't predisposed to think about it beyond it being a gotcha.

#

... I swear thats not the right name but i cant be arsed to find a wiki at this point

clever sundial
#

It is

#

The right name, that is

#

anyway, ck3

#

Enjoy your eugenics simulator

clever sundial
#

Oh I didn't mean just in Persia lol

#

I meant in the world

#

shoulda clarified lol

#

i always play custom characters

kindred hazel
#

Coming from ck2, admittedly, but i got into the habit of starting with a premade and just making the kid my first PC

clever sundial
#

Fair

#

I've never played CK2

kindred hazel
#

... Huh.
Thats a new sentence for me.

clever sundial
#

Tbh part of me feels I'd prefer CK2

#

As CK3 is supposed to be much more character focused

#

But I prefer the more impersonal style of say HoI4

#

Tbh one idea I've had for a while is to make Slovakia

kindred hazel
#

Eh... ck2 still keeps a good deal of the personal touch, and the modding scene leans heavily into that.
Cant really get too far without playing the marriage game.

clever sundial
#

I mean like

#

I like the mechanics of making strategic marriages and that

#

Just I don't care for random events like "x person hates you and said your penis is small" (which is a real event in ck3"

#

)*

kindred hazel
#

Also somewhere near Aqtobe maybe? that little brown strip above its middle i cant read properly?

#

... ck2 in general then maybe, but if you get the full modset too, limit seduction and disable satanism.

#

Three years later and that sentence is still hard to say with a straight face

clever sundial
kindred hazel
#

thats the one. a few buffer states to not immediately piss off big yellow, but ripe for squabbling

clever sundial
#

Never played in the Urals before

#

theres uhh

#

not much here

#

And the steppes have no content in ck3 rn atm

kindred hazel
#

shrug
grab someone a little west and go full HRE? not sure on the relative strength of the papacy in 3 compared to 2

clever sundial
#

Early game the Pope is really fucking weak

#

A meta strat with vikings is to start as a duke and immediately use a varangian adventure to knock the pope out of rome and take it yourself

#

But yeah HRE is something I've never done before

#

So maybe I'll do that

kindred hazel
#

... suppose thats a difference. Try that the other way around and you get an event triggered casus belli on you from every christian nation.

clever sundial
#

Well

#

In CK3 the pope unlocks Crusades once two holy sites have fell to hostile religions

kindred hazel
#

i learned that firsthand when i tried being italy, looked at the papacy and got mad at the border gore

clever sundial
#

So he'll immediately unlock the ability to crusade

#

But

#

If you're fast enough

#

You can easily form the Empire of Italia and use the dismantle the papacy decision before he ever gets to crusade

#

Plus Vikings are incredibly broken, so you could probably single-handedly beat back a crusade if you get enough money for mercs so you can match their numbers

#

Crusades come in two forms in CK3:
Really pathetic and impossible to win

#

And it all depends on if you have a coast or not

#

If you're coastal you've basically won because the penalty for disembarkment will cripple enemy units

#

So you just rush them the moment they land and you can beat numbers double or even triple your size at times

#

If you're a land nation

#

Good luck!

kindred hazel
#

That, at least, is consistent. If you dont give your troops at least half a month after landing, your morale is nothing and you Will Shatter

clever sundial
#

It's roughly the same here

#

The crusades almost always fail because of it

#

As the ai never intelligently lands its divisions outside of enemy territories, waits to reorg, captures some coastal territory and then goes on the offensive

#

It always just bum rushes the war target

kindred hazel
#

to be fair, in 2 the crusades are more for the prestige quirk you get for landing troops over there, but occasionally the infighting gets so deep in the east that it accidentally succeeds

clever sundial
#

for example

#

we're crusading for the holy land

#

what you should do

#

is land in egypt

#

capture a coastal territory while the ai scrambles to defend jerusalem

#

and then attack

#

instead

#

the ai just lands in jerusalem and gets stack wiped over and over

#

so crusades end in like 1-2 years

kindred hazel
#

Yeah that checks out.

clever sundial
#

anyway which kingdom should i start in

#

for hre

#

thinking frisia

#

as it has the potential to be incredibly busted

#

because dutch culture is really broken

#

they have like all the best traits lol

#

polders is broken, agrarian is broken, maritime mercantilism is broken and bureucratic is broken

#

if you form a hybrid with norse

kindred hazel
#

Little far for the HRE, but to be fair frisias chunk of land is usually just-
Raid Me Here

clever sundial
#

you can add viking units to their culture

#

and you become unstoppable

#

as the dutch cultural tenets makes money very quickly

#

money you can then use to get more vikings

#

this is what you need for hre btw

#

so while frisia isnt needed, its very powerful and right next to the hre

#

so id say its a good starting point

kindred hazel
#

I... suppose i was thinking of a depleted form of it then, i remember it being a tidy little chunk this side of poland

#

Carry On

clever sundial
#

this is the hre in 1066

#

which is probably along the lines of what youre thinking of

#

the hre doesnt exist in 867 in ck3 for some reason

#

even though it did exist at that time

#

now then, who should i be

kindred hazel
#

... Oh, the papacy being in two unconnected chunks would bother the everliving daylights out of me.
But yeah thats about right, even if i didn't quite recognize the fact it had a border with denmark

clever sundial
#

am i gonna be a guy or a girl

kindred hazel
#

Male would be easier, but it'd be funny to see someone Joan of Arc it.

clever sundial
#

i usually play females

#

its a lot easier than youd think to be a matriach

#

in ck3

#

but i think ill be a guy this time

kindred hazel
#

in 2 you have to focus on tech points to basically the exclusion of everything else if you want women to be allowed to hold a seat, barring any other elligable person in the bloodline

clever sundial
#

in ck3 if you want to be a matriarchy

#

you just

#

make a new religion

#

pretty easy

#

all of my guys end up looking like ewan mcgregor

#

probably because hes peak male

kindred hazel
#

I'm allergic to beards, so all my men end up looking like baelish

#

or snape, if i plan on commiting mischief from the word go.

clever sundial
#

this is who im starting with

kindred hazel
#

Also i have to say either im used to crap hardware or i feel for your pc's fan running ck with discord in the background

clever sundial

well this is what im starting with, hell look like the other when hes older

clever sundial
kindred hazel
clever sundial
#

also i do have a decent pc lol

#

2060, core i5

kindred hazel
#

Labtops, in a nutshell. Havent had the wherewithal to bother building my own tower yet, so i just got used to hearing a whirr in the background

clever sundial

Hasn't done a squat a day in his life, but has a savant leaning?

clever sundial
#

this woman will be my wife i think

clever sundial
#

prowess is

#

useless

#

in ck3

#

it does

#

near nothing

kindred hazel
#

Duels, i take it?

clever sundial
#

yep

#

and duels

#

do nothing

kindred hazel
#

i suppose they learned that lesson in 2 then, with a good enough arms score you could basically decapitate an empire. Sometimes literally since kings leading get hella troop bonus

clever sundial
#

oh you can still do that

#

its just part of martial now

kindred hazel
#

Fair

clever sundial
#

i swear ive got onset tinnitus

kindred hazel
#

does it sound like iiiiii or eeeee

clever sundial

Since the Pokémon is "Limitless" I doubt "Shadow" Pokémon would exist , this would create new events , Colosseum Areas for Pokémon battles , as well as new characters and trainers. As well as a snag machine

#

Let's see. I did back then used the old program that was being used to make rom hacks

#

The idea was shelved off 10 years ago

#

I think I still have my notebook from that time as well.

stuck tangle
regal mason
sonic moat
#

I have an idea for a game just for Shadow Pokemon.

Name : Pokemon : The Shadow Dimension

Story : You are a Boy/Girl who was separated from your family when you were 3 years old. A weird Hole had opened in the ground at Jubilife City ( your hometown) ( Yes , the game takes place in sinnoh). You were sucked into the hole and it closed. You are 11 years old now but still trapped in some other Dimension. You've been raised by a Mage in that Dimension who knows nothing much about it. All she knows is that the Dimension is called the Shadow Dimension. The control of this Dimension is in the hands of a legendary Shadow Pokemon which is captured by some trainer. You embark on a Journey with Shadow Pokemon to Defeat the Trainer of that Pokemon forever and return to the overworld.

#

@cold heath

cold heath
#

XD can you imagine the battle frontier just being raided with the Admins and Chiper Peons for shadow battles

#

Then by your story 2 things must happen. , 1 the hole is forever open to leak and form new shadow Pokémon, and 2 more enemys will come and jump into the cracks of that dimension for timely events

#

Thus make new limited time events

#

To avoid New Game Plus , or if you include NG+ , Randomizer would lock based if u have the power needed to snag Shadow Pokémon

#

Then I would suggest using the "Distortion Worlds" portal to good use since after the DW Girantina Event is over that portal doesn't really have much of use so it would be an excellent idea to use that portal to jump into the next chapter of the Adventure for Shadow Pokémon

#

Well so many ideas and I haven't even opened my notebook yet that had my ideas

#

Let's see.. what did I come up with 10 years ago. .

#

Ah.. ok the idea 10 years ago was that a professor found the formula to create shadow liquid to inject Pokémon with and they become Shadow Pokémon with another mode after entering Hyper Mode

#

Called "Chaos Mode"

#

Oh ok chaos mode is like a double edged sword in situations , but if it's a wild shadow Pokémon using it , it would be a benefit

#

*After a few turns that the Shadow Pokémon used Chaos Mode it becomes Vulnerable and gets easy to catch for 3 turns before resetting itself to normal

#

*However if a trainer uses Chaos Mode from a shadow Pokémon , the Pokémon will have the same effect and since no trainer has the ability to snag shadow Pokémon this is just resting the Pokémon before resetting. Thus becoming an easier target to get hurt but can't fight back

#

*Chaos Mode - all Attacks Hit and gives critical hits , and gives extra defense and SP Defense for those few turns only , before entering the resting stage , this Mode can only be used by 1 shadow Pokémon per battle

#

Then rest of the notebook is the art and storytelling

#
